A note on mince pie. Many years ago a dear family friend (born in the year 1900 out in Nebraska) and her two sisters gathered to make their grandmother's mincemeat recipe. One brought dried currants from her ranch and the huge wooden bowl that their grandmother had used, another brought the raisins and other dried fruit (?) and one ordered the best cuts of beef and suet from the butcher (very finely ground). I always referred to them as the Midwestern Wyrd sisters when they got together! 😂 Anyway, they proceeded to concoct the most strange looking mixture in that great big bowl! They canned up a lot and then made pies with the rest. That pie was one of the best things I have ever eaten! The texture was perfect. It was sweet.... yet a bit savory... and, oh so rich!!! Mince pies of today are just pale, sickly shadows of what once was a hearty treat in the 'old days'. And no, I didn't get the recipe. There was none. Just three elderly sisters making their grandmother's pie the way they had throughout their lives. That was some true magick there! A Merry Season to All!!
I love walks on a cold winter day ... the Wren and Robin singing a beautiful song ....and like you it makes me happy . Back home its cozy and warm . My cats snoring and sleeping on the chair. Loved your video. Just only for a few weeks that i saw your video here on the tube. Have a nice yule time and best wishes for 2024 .✨️🎄🕯🍾✨️ Sylvia from the netherlands
I'm a follower of the Italian tradition to wear a red slip in the Sylvester night. I don't know exactly what it means, but this is bringing fertility and good luck in the New Year. 🩷🙏🩷
❤ I relish your videos! I sit with my bread, honey, and tea while watching. I thank you for sharing your wisdom, and wonderful glow with us!!!!❤ Love to you, and yours! Blessed be!
A Christmas tradition in our family is that every family member receives a new set of pajamas on Christmas Eve to wear that night and through Christmas morning (or all day!). I enjoy learning about the roots of Christmas/Yule and about these pagan holidays. Celebrated Mabon earlier this year for the first time ever with my S/O and some of her friends, had a delicious meal along with cider and mead!
The presents in the shoe on the 6th of December is not in all Scandinavian countries, I'm Norwegian and this is totally un-known to me. But we have an Advent calendar with chocolate or presents to the childre, one every day from 1st of December until the 24 tth of December, Juleaften = Juleve, the day we have the largest celebration and we exchange the gifts. On the 13th we are celebrating St.Lucia with light and children walkes with candels and one of the girls is representing Lucia with lights in her hair, not actual flames. But there is a lot of pagan traditions into this day as well. Before we started using the Gregorian calender early in 1700, we were 11 days ahed of the sun-year (and the rest of Europa). So the winter solstice was actually on this day. And there was a dangerous night to be out. The "årgardsrei" gohsts, vetter and other bad beings were riding in the air. There were thing one could do to protect oneself. And we still today call it Jul, in the Nordic countries we never took the the Christams or Kristmesse as it would have been in Norwegian. During Jul every visitor had to be served, and eat something, if not he or she would take the Jul out of the house. It's a bit difficult to describe this in English as its't not my first language.
The shoe present is a dutch tradition. Sinterklaas and his zwarte Piet walks in the night over the rooftops to breng the present to the children ans put them trougt the chimney. But only if they have been nice. Naughty children where taking in a burlap bag to spain the home of sinterklaas.
I always look forward to your videos. Last year, I started lighting a candle with an intention each day of yule. I plan on doing it again this year and making it a new tradition. 🙂
I love this series so much, such a fun way to start the month. Don't forget wassailing - though mostly performed in January, some places start in December (and a few English xmas carols find their roots in wassails). Oh and Mari Lwyd in Wales!
Again, Ginny, I have learned so much. You reminded me of Holy Innocents Day!! Yule is one.of my favorite times of year. The bringing in of the.light to the New Year. Thanks so.much...A Blessed Yule and Happy Christmas to you and those you love!!
Wonderful video!! I love these series! They make me much more aware of everything going on during the whole month and give me so many ideas of how to celebrate and the context of why. Thank you❤
The presents in the shoes tradition is Central European. In Hungary, St Nicholas and the Krampus (sort of devil) comes on the 6th December. Children put their cleared winter boots in the window before going to bed. When they wake up in the morning, the boots are filled with chocolate, apples and nuts from St. Nicholas, if they were good. If they were bad they get some twigs for punishment from the Krampus. This is a tradition that is very much alive, so you should never tell a Hungarian child, that the treats are actually put in the boots by their parents.
In the Netherlands St Nicholas is celebrated on the eve of dec 5th. Leading up to it children put up their shoe and place a carrot in it for St Nicholas’ horse and sing for him. They receive small treats (chocolate, mandarins, little gifts) in their shoe the next morning. On the evening of the 5th their is a banging on the door and when they open it there is a bag filled with presents on the doorstep. Lots of traditional (19th century) songs are sung, hot chocolate and traditional cookies (speculaas and pepernoten) are had and presents unpacked. Often accompanied by poems, especially when the children get older. We weren’t allowed to exchange presents without a poem with each present in our house. It was our absolute favourite holiday. On the 6th was St Nicholas’ actual birthday but that’s largely ignored since there are so many new books to read and toys to play with :)
Hello Ginny methreal. I'm a long time fan of your channle and you have really helped me along my oath in witchcraft. I hope you have a merry Christmas and an amazing yule this year
The hunting of the wren also happened here in Wales. I'm surprised you are a Capricorn. Do you have alot of Leo or Sagittarius in your chart as you give off exuberant fire vibes to me?
Ginny, I have taken my familiar's girl kittens to be spayed; she is a stray as are her kittens. Will she forgive me for taking them and then returning them? She is kind and has at last allowed me to touch her. Cats have always come to me.

Mari Lwyd I talked about in my previous year's video on December - possibly there weirdest tradition I have ever come across.

Oh my gosh how lucky am I that the Geminids shooting stars are on my birthday 🎉

My daughter was born on Yule and I was wondering if there is any significance to it.
P.S. if you're reading this just know you are loved 💜🎣❣️❣️
Yule babies are extremely balanced in character - is this so?
I find this to be true for my daughter🥰
Ginnny you are hilarious you should turn your don’t eat chocolate or you will be over s@xed comment 15:20 into a short 😂 it’s very Alan Partridge 😂😂
Good idea - I will!
Ginny, I have taken my familiar's girl kittens to be spayed; she is a stray as are her kittens. Will she forgive me for taking them and then returning them? She is kind and has at last allowed me to touch her. Cats have always come to me.
Yes they will, make sure you give extra love to all.
I always do.@@GinnyMetheral
You forgot Krampus and Saturnalia!
Yes, but no one I have heard of celebrates saturnalia now... Krampus I know nothing about....
I have spell of protection on family members. Can u bind 2 people to a dog
🩷
My birthday is the 28th……..😅
why shouldn't you wish for others?
it is to do with free will, you shouldn't change someone else's future no matter how good the intention is. It is up to them to choose their own path.
@@GinnyMetheral thanks, that makes sense
Wtf are you serious!?
Always
Jesus p❤ower proof. Warning it last 72 hours
Yay, Christianity is so Pagan!
What is the fifth of December you didn't say anything about the 5th of December I need to know because my birthday is on the 5th of December?
