"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

The old paper cutter you can always turn it into a Bender for metal where you can bend sheathing for siding Roofing. Or you can turn into a screw press where are you can clamp your material to work on.

I'm a Printing estimator for 30 years and that is an old guillotine to cut paper. To many corporations this would be a showpiece to display in their entry way. This is worth a fair chunk of dollars. mid to upper 4 figures because they are seldomly seen. Needs TLC but by no means undesirable!!!

    • @patricke.987

I looked at the video again and This a big guillotine for the time and great quality too. No wood inlays... I'm thinking this could sell around 5K as is. restored is around 9-10K. Either German or north american made. Then again it would make a great side table! But if there is a way to save this heritage... Please do!

The old guillotine, the type drawers (where the terms uppercase and lowercase came from!) each drawer had a single typeface/font and each section was for the letters & numbers, so there were so many As, Bs, etc. this stuff is still used but at LEAST hundred year old tech. Any way you can use the legs of the press cutter for the evaporator pan?
If not those legs would be great for an epic chair/throne, bar stool height table, or even a bed. . . You can even use the components so it can be set to different height levels with a turn of the wheel!!!
Perhaps you can use the components to make like an "Argentine Grill" that has adjustable height with the crank of the wheel for a covered outdoor kitchen near the pizza oven and smoker, or near this new little log cabin.
Work bench or even a Park Bench for underneath the cube!!!
But it would be great to see some components be part of a permanent fixture attached or inside the little log cabin

Hey... it's Don. Eager to watch the cabin chinking process you choose. Content is excellent.

That print shop could be the set for a horror movie in about 30 seconds... its one light bulb failure away from a serial killer's dream

When you were doing the floor I was seeing a foot of daylight under all the walls ( cause walls are all raised and sitting on stumps) and now there will be a floor above covering the ground .. so begs a question ... how are you going to keep critters from living under there? Seems like you are building a perfect place for them (wolves and cougars and bears -- oh my).
BTW .. all the steel you loaded in the bed of the truck ... if there's enough flat pieces perhaps you could weld together an outdoor off-grid wood fired large grill for making pancakes and such.

I would try and re use your cutter as some sort of shop table need a good sand blast and some paint

Idea Alert: That dead standing pine would be perfect for making a cordwood structure, round I hope.

Correct me if I'm wrong... pine is not hardwood and ash is considered a non-durable, perishable wood also susceptible to attack by beetles and fungus, especially the sapwood.
