    The argument for Priest's being higher on the list is this: He's one of the few people who won MITB in a stable. A group of people around the winner who would (for the most part) take a bullet for him. Add that with Seth's wonky leg for a few months and all it takes is for Priest, Balor, Dom and JD, (of course Rhea could help, too, but they started writing her somewhat in her own world for while) to jump the champ at literally any time and have Priest cash-in. The fact that Drew won it first, Punk interfered, THEN Priest by himself, hit one move and won was just meh. It could've strengthened the Judgement Day if they were part of helping him win it. A 5 on 1 assault on a wounded champ would get way more heat. But for months Priest looked like a moron for not just sending the entire Judgement Day out there to attack then cleaning up the rest for himself.

    The Theory cash in was also a waste of the "hidden" mid-card title loophole. Most people would not want to go for anything except the world title, but if there was a justification, it could be a pleasant surprise. For example, a Sheamus cash in for the intercontinental title to complete his title collection. It's logical why he would do that, and it would've made the "no-one has ever done this before, it was unthinkable!" moment... Instead, they threw that opportunity AND HAD THE GUY LOSE THE MATCH!?

      Exactly.
      As annoying as Theory’s cash-in was, at least he did eventually go after that title and win it (as underwhelming and boring as that reign ended up being). Baron Corbin got punished for literally speaking his mind and was rolled up by the worst WWE Champion by a country mile and got further devalued for no real reason as a result.

    I feel like they could have justified the Theory cash in at least a little bit if they tried. At that time Roman barely defended his belt, and when he did he had a whole posse around him 24/7, it would have been pretty much impossible to cash in on him. Maybe his justification could be that it's better to cash in and succeed on a midcard belt than cash in and fail on the world title. He'd still look like a bit of a chump, but at least there's some logic behind it. Of course, that would have required him to actually WIN the midcard belt...

  • @PowerPackers90
    @PowerPackers90 Месяц назад +1

    NEVER FORGET. they had Cena win the MitB that year because they wanted him to be the first failed cash in and not a young guy. Only for Cena to WIN the match by DQ, WIN the belt at Mania anyways, and then BEAT SANDOW IN HIS CASH IN! meaning Sandow "the younger talent" is STILL the first cash-in failer.

  • @captaincaterpie
    @captaincaterpie Месяц назад +1

    I actually think baron Corbin's cash in is the worst cash in, worse than Austin theory's and ill explain why. There is one big difference between the two, Austin's cash in, while to make Seth look better and get rid of the briefcase, also tried to do another thing. It tried to make the US title look better. It tried to establish the US title as the main raw title because it was being booked as the main raw title at the time, it was Seth and Bobby Lashley feuding over it lol Austin cashing in on the title was supposed to make the title look better, it didn't BUT I still think that due to this baron's cash in is worse because baron's cash in was to punish Corbin and make jindef look better, nothing else.

    I was absolutely one of those people who thought it would have been brilliant for Otis and Tucky to cash in for the tag titles. Against a proper heel team, and having the announcers slowly come to the realization as to what they were doing...would have been epic. They had two great ways to get Heavy Machinery over in into the championships, and this was the other one. Heavy Machinery had everything needed to be mad crazy over...except for the fact that Vince didn't think the tag division was worth spending any time on.
    I think Otis having the title taken from him in Wrestlers' Court was so bad an idea, it deserved a spot in this list. They didn't even bother to have him try and lose, there was just a universal nodding of heads that this was one of the worst idea Vince ever had (it wasn't - see above) and they decided to all but Patrick Duffy In A Shower it out of existence.

    Some stats: if we only look at men's MITB, the overall success rate is merely 76 per cent for cash-ins. Even worse, of the last 8 men's cash-ins, only 4 were successful (one of which wasn't even by MITB winner Otis, but by Miz, so winning the briefcase in the match is f*cking cursed by now for the men)

    Okay, guess it's up to me to defend Theory's cash in. Lock yourselves in, 'cuz this is a long one.
    * We saw that Theory isn't exactly the most patient person. Remember all those times that he called himself the "Now" instead of the "Future" because he had a midcard title?
    * Roman was never around. He almost always stayed on Smackdown, one, and two he was never around on Smackdown either.
    * When Roman was around, he had backup. So Theory also needs to wait for when the Usos are incapacitated. Immediately, that's 3 people who have to be down and out (or away, for the other 2).
    * Eventually, the time comes when Roman and the Usos are incapacitated. Summerslam. Almost everyone who needs to be down and out is down and out, but he missed Brock who did NOT miss him. Okay, that's a try.
    * Clash at the Castle. It's his time. Roman's down and out. Drew's vulnerable. The Usos couldn't make it. Sami (Roman's newest ally) is gone. EVERYONE who needs to be down is down. It's his moment, and then Tyson Fury happens.
    * And THEN, Solo happens. And something that seems people forget, the following Smackdown it's explicitly stated that Solo is there to keep the belt on Roman when the Usos can't or are indisposed, which is as close to saying "that means you, Theory" as they can get without actually saying it.
    So he's not cashing in on Roman. So he gives up. And as far as Roman was concerned, he was right to do so, because that magic moment where everyone who has to be vulnerable or laid out actually is NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN for as long as Theory held the briefcase. Even in the Civil War, the Usos wanted to save Roman from himself, so it's doubtful that they'd just let him get cashed in on. The creation of the WHC, which he could cash in on, is something that isn't exactly foreseeable in kayfabe.
    So who else to cash in on?
    * In the absence of a world champion, Seth worked to elevate the US title to a main event status. Also, he's on Raw too.
    * The other midcard champion was GUNTHER, who would also beat his skeleton out of his body. Also, he's on Smackdown.
    * As shown when Theory looked at Gargano, an NXT Triple Crown winner, and called himself better because he won the US title first, Theory considers midcard main roster belts to be above the NXT Championship. Also, Ilja would have his life.
    Seth's US title is the best option. Remember, he's impatient.
    * But to not be too foolhardy, he answered Seth's open challenge the previous week and lost, so in order to win the title he would HAVE to cash it in opportunistically.
    * And he had no reason to think the open challenge was still open after Bobby wrecked Seth.
    It's still not exactly good (since Bobby interfered for absolutely no reason, and then Theory won it anyway), but I wouldn't call it the drizzling shits. I'd have it at 4, because Strowman's, Sandow's, and Corbin's were outright offensive.
    * Strowman's, because the HiaC ended in a No Contest, something that works to undo the legacy the match built after those times it was on Raw in 1998.
    * Sandow's because he spends the entire match working Cena's injured arm, then Cena just gets an AA and wins.
    * And Corbin's (my Number 1 Worst) because he loses to a flash roll-up after TURNING HIMSELF AROUND to attack Cena (not even a distraction finish, the bell rings and Corbin immediately turns his back to Jinder to punch Cena), and because it happened because Corbin dared to speak up on concussions being dangerous.

    @3thirtyDr3amz Месяц назад +1

    I mean, it wasn't the case in 2022 and still isn't, but if the tag division had depth and a level of prestige the tag cash in could work.
    Theory's (after the fact) justification for the cash in did make some sense too, he knew he couldn't beat the Bloodline stranglehold. But yeah, he didn't win, it was a wacky thing when he did it. And then he did win it later so why not have him win the cash in. Of course he'd been booked as a loser and the US title was at the time, the consolation prize for main eventers during the Roman Eternity, so he had no credibility to compete for it.
