  • So what a weekend at Castle Hillclimb. CAMEL VALE MOTOR CLUB put on a fantastic event and after last years rather damp meeting this year was the complete opposite absolutely red hot both days. The team were out weeks before preparing the venue and they did a fantastic job. Thank you to the marshals who were out in the heat over the weekend and did great job after Jerry’s mishap and Neil undressing Ted’s celica as always you guys are stars. Thank you so much for coming out.
The Jedi went well straight out of the box and first practice was 0.11 away from the 1100cc class record. I noticed a couple of issues with the car being as soft as it is it was picking up the inside rear wheel in the fast right hander before the long left and then over the right at the finish at around 70mph in practice. Some adjustments were made and it got it to around 75-78mph before the wheel was spinning. First timed run was the best after the adjustments with a 23.90 lowering the 1100cc class record and ended up as FTD for the day. I did try to go quicker but struggled to get the balance on the throttle when lifting the wheel. I knew there was a lower time in there if I could hook it up. More tweaks overnight to try and make it better pushing the spin up to 80mph. First timed run before lunch was the best lowering the previous days time to a 23.49. I felt that it was the best the car had and I was right. I continued right up to the last run trying to get more out of the setup but there was no more on the day. I know there is more in there with different springs and diff adjustments. See what next year brings. Was pushed all weekend by Tony, I was always looking over my shoulder, he put in a super 23.63 on his last run and for someone who hasn’t been there for many years that was a mega time. Well done to Tom who put in a 24.60 on his first visit to the venue for the class win on both days. Dad had a great weekend taking a second off his pb and picking up 2nd in class both days.
Thank you again to the hard working teams out on the hill, rescue, timekeepers, doctor, marshals and organisers.
So here is the two FTD runs first up is Saturday’s 23.90 then the Sunday’s 23.49.
Big thanks to Martyn for the use of his pictures in the video.
