I don't have a fave pen but my criteria are continuity of flow & control, which varies with the paper. My handwriting is shocking so I use a diy pencil board. Oil based inks in ballpoint pens are more resilient to water spills, gel ink being water based can dissolve to nothing if you spill a drink on it say.
I’ve used & loved all your top 5 pens! I have to say the Writech Aurora is my fave right now because you can highlight Mildliners right over them with no smear-age. I love that it’s a deeper black color that really shows up well in my planner, without bleeding or ghosting. My fave pen for a less bold look (appears as .3/.38 even though it is .5) is Zebra Blen (retractable). It’s the smoothest pen I’ve tried with a finer look. My fave pen for a bold look is Zebra Sarasa X 0.7. I adore Mildliner highlighters and brush pens. I pick out 2 colors each month that go with my deco to highlight events. Another highlighter brand to try is the Writech Retractable. They also come in very delicate colors! I’ve used and like the Writech Sign Brush for hand lettering. I love your ideas for using them to add extra color on a page, highlight events, and designate priorities for the day! Another small brush pen I love is the Pentel Touch: 36 colors, one of the least expensive brush pens, very durable, and available everywhere :) Thank you, thank you for this video! Pens are my love language. As a dear friend told me recently, there isn’t anything that pens can’t fix 💛
Hi Kim:)I LOVE hearing all your favorites! I do have Zebra Blen- I've barely used it! I need to pull it out now;) thank you for the brush pen recommendation. I know you have extensively tested them from seeing it on your IG page. Now I can always come back here and reference your faves;) I love that you also have a deep love of pens. And I love what your friend said:)
We have very similar pen taste! My favorites are the Pentel, Sarasa and Frixion, but right now thinner than 0.5 because I’m currently in a pocket rings. I also really like the Zig Kuretake dot pens for making list dots. I’ve never heard of the Writech ones, I need to check them out!
Loved this video Amanda, thanks for going through your very pretty pen collection. .5Pentel Energel X has been my go-to for EC paper for years, I like Sarasa MarkOn for Tomoe River type paper, and now it seems I have to discover Writech pens! ☺
This is such a fun video! My favorites are (I use all of these on the constant depending on what I am writing in/trying to do): Pens: TUL .5 (This is one of my new favorite pens) Frixion .5 Pentel EnerGel .5 Writech Arura .5 Uniball Jetstream .7 (it writes like a .5) Highlighers: Frixion Highlighers - Pastel colored ones (for appts that may change) Mildliners Markers: PaperMate Flair EC Dual Tip Markers I need to check out the Tombow markers. I've never used one before, but they have such a wide variety of colors! I'll have to pick some up one of these days.
I love that frixion pen...I have one and it's my favorite too. It's not as black and inky as the gel pens I'm used to using but it's erasable so I understand why it's not...love it thought. Uni Pin Fine line for the translucent sticky notes Pilo Fixion Ball Knock pen 0.5 Zebra Sarasa clip gel pen 0.5
As a lefty, I LOVE the Sarasa dry pens! The Pilot G-2 was my ride or die all through school though-From Jr. High all the way through college. Then I tried a Pilot Coletto and… LOVE. But the Sarasa Dry is the best. I put the refills in the uniball one P bodies. I have to try the Writech!
Oh…love that Frixion pen from Jet Pens. So pretty! I’m currently loving the Frixion Fineliner….it is not a pretty pen at all but I love (for lack of better term) how soft it feels writing on EC paper. I’m also a big fan of LePen in gray. I love a darker gray ink and LePen has the best! 🩶🩶
Pilot Multiball all time fav for tomoe river paper, it writes on everything, from washi to glass. Getting harder to find though. I got the brown pen kit from JetPens and I really like all of those.
My current faves: Writech (my bestie got me hooked on them!) Pilot Frixion Pilot Precise V5 and V7 Pilot G2 (preferably 1.0 but also like 0.7) Papermate Flair Bic Cristal 1.6 ballpoint--I love the multicolor pack because the colors are so vibrant! Zebra Mildliners (ofc) Crayola SuperTips Tbh tho, I love any pen or marker that writes well! 🖊🖊🖋🖋
I love the Zebra Sarasa Dry Airfit. The Pentel Energel Clena is a good one as well. I actually prefer fountain pens for Tomoe River Paper because it shows off the qualities of fountain pen inks much better. For fountain pens, I have tried and owned a LAMY Safari, Pilot MR, TWSBI Eco, Kaweco Perkeo, and a Jinhao 100. I still have all of them except for the TWSBI and my favorite is the LAMY.
I looove the Clena and Sarasa pens. I haven't tried the other 3, but they sure are going on my list to try out. :) I think my all-time favorite pen is the one that comes with the Hobonichi (for all the reasons you mentioned). It's apparently a Uni Jetstream ballpoint pen. I've ordered one from Jetpens to see. I have small handwriting, so while I also love inky pens, they make me write bigger than what I prefer for legibility's sake. Another favorite of mine is the Pentel Energel Infree (not sure if it's the same as the X in the US). You can get the Japanese version in a 0.4, which is great for my small handwriting. And they have a nice variety of colors which makes me happy. 😅 I also think their blue is really pretty. It's bright and saturated. Not as dark as other blues.
Thank you for sharing that Pentel Energel Pen with me...I haven't tried the Infree. And yes- that Hobonichi Uni Jetstream ballpoint is so good! Thank you for taking the time to watch and share:)
I'd love to try the Writech pens for next time I'm shopping for supplies. Now, my favorites are Papermate Inkjoy gel pen, fountain pens, Staedtler triplus fineliner marker, Tombow Fudenosuke brush pens, and of course the Tombow dual tip brush pens. I use the fine tip to write titles/labels on the blank pages.
Do you ever have issues with your Inkjoy pens getting them to write continuously without skipping? Mine are so skippy I never reach for them bc I have to go over everything 3 times. Is there a secret hack I don't know about? I store them tip side down, but still have so many issues.
My returned favorite currently is the BIC Atlantis pen. Such a basic pen, but it holds up really well. Sometimes I have issues with the flow on gel pens that are less inky, but then the ones that are too inky can also be a problem as a lefty especially, but also depending on the paper. I recently tried the Sharpie S-gel which I really like. And the Uni-ball AIR which I think is a gel pen, but both of those are nice. I had never heard of the Uni-ball AIR before. It was just a random black pen I found at my dads. And he's a blue ink person, but I'm team black ink, so I always have to go hunting for a black pen, and just happened to come across that one. I know everyone loves the Papermate inkjoy pens, but I have so many issues getting them to write smoothly and continuously without skipping. I always have to go back and write over parts of what I wrote.
I haven’t tried many pens. I can’t remember the names of one I have used. But the one I use right now is a Pilot Acroball from the grocery store. Haha. Nothing fancy, but it works. I like how it writes, but it does smear some. I will check out some of these.
So many loving the G-2. 1.0. I love the G2 .7- especially on EC paper. But I can't highlight over it...so I didn't include it. But I do really like it on that thick paper.
I don't know that I have top 5 right now. I would say Tul and Sharpie S Gel for pens and Mildliners for highlighters. I did use your affiliate code for my Hemlock and Oak earlier today.
Oh, thank you! And I hope you love the Hemlock and Oak. I really want to use that planner and have tried it out so many times because I LOVE it so much. Such amazing quality! Thanks for sharing your favorite pens:)
Being you write and so many different notebooks and planners do you find that you lose information? and if not, how do you keep track of it all? Also do you ever feel like you must commit to just one planner for the whole year? You are so making me want another Hobo it is my favorite planner! 🙈 I am so trying most of your top 5, I am so picky but feel frustrated with pens for TRP lately. Now I must place an order with Jetpens! It’s all your fault 😂 Loved this video 😊❤
LOL! I am sorry for the Jetpens order;) On the question...I don't feel like I need to stay in one planner for the year (many years I have even while reviewing planners)! But this year I took about 6 weeks to settle into my weekly of Passion Planner and we shall see if I stay all year;) I don't feel like I lose information- because my important stuff is all on my monthly ashley shelly and I keep that all year:)
I didn’t realize until a few weeks ago that you can support content creators on Amazon by using their affiliate link-even if you don’t purchase anything from their Favorites page. So, I try to remember to go through their link every time I purchase something in my cart. It’s a way to show thanks to the creators you follow, buying things you were going to buy anyway!
Thank you for sharing that;) I know Target does too:) Not sure what I said in the video...LOL. It's hard for me to remember when I have to film a few weeks before it comes out.
What is your favorite pen right now?
Zebra Sarasa Dry .5 and Pentel Energel Clena .5.
Pentel energel needle tip .5

I agree that the paper makes a huge difference on which pen I want to use. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.

I agree with both those pens on those specific papers being so good! Love your faves Patricia:)

I LOVE your list Jana! We have a lot in common:)
I love that frixion pen...I have one and it's my favorite too. It's not as black and inky as the gel pens I'm used to using but it's erasable so I understand why it's not...love it thought.

Thanks for sharing your faves:) Love your list!
Love
1. Pilot G2 1.0
2. Papermate Flair
3. Tul gel (just getting into these)
oh, I love Pilot G2 .7 on EC paper...but they don't allow you to highlight over them. But love the juicy ink on that thick paper;)
I've never tried a Pilot Coletto! Thank you for sharing your faves- especially as a lefty!
As a lefty, I've always preferred a drier pen, usually leaning toward ballpoint pens just because they don't smear as much

A lot of pen fans out there and this video is great. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Writech aurora pen and uniball jet stream!
Thanks for sharing your faves!
I have the writech aurora’s also. They feel like a silicone phone case.
My favorite pen is the ink joy paper mate. The TUL pens are a close second.
That is a good way to describe the feel of them!
I have tried both and like them...they just haven't ever become my fave. But maybe in the future they will?! I love hearing your favorites!
1. Signo uniball
2. Writec rollerball
3. Sharpie rollerball
4. Zebra Mildliners
5. Lamy Safari fountain and rollerball
Great show ❤️
Love hearing your faves:)

I understand! I used to just pick up pens at the store and not know much about them- but I still have always loved pens:)
I also love Writech pens which are like Pilot Precise! Pentel Energel, Sharpie S-gel
Thanks for watching and I love hearing your faves!
They all look great; I’ll keep to my bic crystal multi colors.😂 I like them so much I bring my own pens to work!
I love knowing that is your fave! Stay with what you love and what works;) Ive never tried this many pens until I started this channel! LOL:)
I really appreciate how direct your videos and you don’t rant on what coffee you are drinking.
Thank you:)
My favorite pen is pilot g2 1.0 pen and zebra sarasa X dry 20 pen

Going to have to make a JetPens order soon apparently. And if there's any I don't like, most of my family will use just about any pen
Well that is a great way to be able to purchase without guilt!
I have Tombows in my card making supplies and never thought about using them in my planners! 🤦♀️
Oh! interesting. I love them in planners!

Hey Kim....I didn't know it worked that way either! Thank you for sharing this with me!
Thank you for this video. I'm always looking for a great pen. Does the Frixion pen disappear from your written pages after several months to years?
As long as you keep them out of extreme heat they should be fine;) I haven't tested that after years though;)
My 3 favorite pens are
1. Studio pen 🖋
2. Frixion pen 🖋
3. Bic pro + they write really good in notebook's 📓 ✍️
Okay- #1 & #3 are new to me! I am going to have to try those out someday:) Thanks for watching and taking time to share your faves:)
And do a video review of zebra sarasa grand pen
I've never seen that one. I will check it out;) Thanks!
Walmart does have mildliners
