    The streaky thing is called "railroading". It's when the ball in the pen pushes the ink to the sides, but not the center.

    • @Hunnter2k3
      @Hunnter2k3 6 лет назад +18

      Both. I've had some degrade on me a few times.
      Usually worst if you have it exposed to sunlight, which was my fault admittedly.
      A lot of modern inks are vastly superior to the inks of old times, which is where you see the worst degradation. (especially watercolor)
      But they can still be affected by sunlight, especially if it is in the 2 hours around noon when at its strongest. (same goes for writable optical discs)

    Oil paint pens are not designed for cotton based paper. the paper absorbs the oil. Same thing for the rayman pen. Use a non porous surface and the paint will be super vibrant.

Because if you use a regular/normal sharpie it dries so quickly and die, so the oil baised doesn’t dry because of the oil. But I got to say that have this glossy texture at the end and be careful we does tips, are tricky af😂 if you press hard the paint will come out

    • @Steeksify
      @Steeksify 6 лет назад +18

      No, it's not lmao Railroading is a term exclusive to fountain and dip pens which utilize a flexible or semi-flexible nib. It's a specific term for a specific kind of mechanic. What you're referring to is simply a flow issue, as a ballpoint pen cannot physically railroad. A nib-based pen is different, since it uses 2 tines and capillary action to apply ink to paper. When the tines spread too far without sufficient ink flow, the ink does not spread between them creating two distinct lines, separated by white space (or whatever color your paper is) rather than a single line. THAT is what railroading is. It is NOT the same thing as ink appearing darker or being more concentrated along either side of the stroke, or the ink running out midstroke. Again, a ballpoint pen is physically incapable of railroading as ballpoint pens do not utilize capillary action.
      Please don't throw around terms you clearly don't understand. Thanks!

    • @AngieMyst
      @AngieMyst 6 лет назад +15

      Keiss In communities that discuss ballpoint pens in depth, it's definitely commonly called railroading when the ball pushes ink to the side and the middle is thinner. The term probably evolved from its original usage meaning with fountain pen nibs. Since these are two completely different types of pens, it should be less confusing when using the same term to mean different things

    • @Steeksify

    Maybe the actual conclusion to this is that you need more than one kind of white pen. A gel pen for fine dots and lines, and a juicier gel or paint pen for larger areas or that is compatible with your go-to paint and markers. I have the Sakura gelly roll and I don't like how it looks. I think in the future I will buy the Uni-ball Signo Broad, both the Uni-Pasco and Sharpie water-based paint pens, and the Sakura Glaze. Might get a Decorese for kicks.

    Other than Amazon, I'm not sure where you shop for pens at. But, recently after realizing that I needed to replace some old art supplies with new ones, I found this website called Jetpens.com. I spent about 25 dollars on close to 20 items. (bumped up the item count because if you spend $20 on your first purchase, you get free shipping) But, all of my pens and stuff were amazing and relatively inexpensive considering how much I was buying. This website is seriously the best. I get at least 85% of my art supplies from them and they are always amazing!!!

The air getting into the pen itself is said to help ink flow, which is why some pens include that detail.

      ella conover I don’t think that’s their point. The original commenter just meant that they’re soooo bored that they’re watching someone swatch white pens (because they’re bored and look at this as interesting)

    man I was really excited for this video and was not let down, I agree the signo is the best one to buy and ive been using it for a couple years now. I dont know if you knew this but there is actually a gelly roll bold which I could only find in packs on amazon for 6-8 dollars, but I think its definitely worth a try. The gelly roll bold is a lot more watery than the original gelly roll and the signo, you can actually wipe it off after a couple seconds and it almost disappears. The gelly roll bold is pretty good and I would use it over the original but not over the signo. I dont really like gelly rolls but theyre good if you run out of signos or smth.
    Also it would be really cool to see you try out different paint markers! I will say though that in my experience the paint markers will be in a locked glass case in art stores so be prepared to converse with a store person for a while.
    Also using paint markers and gel pens on water based markers is really different than alcohol based markers. I have some tombow water based markers and the whites really dont work well on a lot of them ESPECIALLY red. Both paint and gel pens seem to not work well on water based markers and I kinda recommend just getting opaque white in a small package as it will work on most if not everything!
    sorry for such a long comment just putting my thoughts out there, also I wanna say I watched the whole minuet 30 ad bc it was gordon ramsay, maybe that will give you some money to buy the paint pens lol

    Looking in stores, the only one I was able to find was the Uniball broad and was actually surprised with how well it worked but I was convinced there would be a better one out there that I couldn't get my hands on lol. This was helpful :)

    You can use a correction pen because it works well, it's cheap and it is so smooth
    I also use the Sakura gelly ball pen too but the correction pen has more pigment 😁
    So I recommend you to use a correction pen 👍👍👍
    Love your channel 😍😍😘😘❤️❤️

    thank you so much waffles for doing this! It was fun to watch you, and very informative also :-) at this point in my life, I just can’t afford to go buy a bunch of art supplies and try them out myself. So it’s really nice to kind of watch you test them and see how they work or don’t work

    great test. Gelli Roll also makes a pen called souffle that works much like the glaze. goes on clear, dries white. Love the Posca for bigger areas. It will reactive watercolor. Going over it a second time will brighten the marks. Thanks for an informative post.
