- Bidean nam Bian the guard of the Lost Valley in Glencoe is the highest mountain in the Glencoe area (former county of Argyll) and in this video we are climbing him via "The Nose" a.k.a. "Easy Route". The Nose is a scramble Grade 3 up to the Gearr Aonach Ridge next to the famous ZigZags (Grade 1 Scramble) and leads up to a broad ridge from where it is an easy hill walk up to Coire Stob nan Lochan and finally Bidean nam Bian.

looks good mate, were doing the zigzags and the nose tomorrow. good video
Hi Grainne,
Is a great route, I thought that the beginning was the most difficult bit (first 5 meters) - unfortunately I couldn't really film a lot of it as I haven't had my camera on my helmet. Wish you a great day out 👍

Love your vids and knowledge of the Glen Coe mountains
😊
I don't know why but I've watched many of your videos but this I think has some of the best views I've seen. 👍
Excellent video again. 😀👍
Thank you Abel.👋👍
Nice climb 🧗♀️ to the top. Thank you for sharing and wishing you a wonderful week. Nice views from the top.
Cheers, yeah the views were amazing 🤣
Great vid and footage. When I did this last year , I nearly went up that way - it seemed a legit path but didn't know anything about scrambling routes up and (for me) made the decision to descended back down and across the stream to the hikers path and up to the lost valley in the more normal route.
Thanks a lot. I wouldn’t recommend the route taken for the beginning, there are parts in it why I couldn’t really film as I needed both hands and I had the GoPro not on the helmet in this moment…imho it is more difficult than the curved ridge. A fairly good way up the same shoulder are the zigzag’s 👍.
Thanks a lot for watching!

A nice looking route! “A bit steeper” haha!
Hi Sam 👋😊, well I bet you would do the same!
👋🏼. Your right I probably would 😂.
Really enjoyed that route. Great video 👍🏼
Hi Port Hole, thanks a lot. ☺️👍
Brilliant Stripey…The Zig Zags are defo on my radar😁
Thanks a lot mate, I am sure you will enjoy the zigzags! 👋👍
The Zig Zags are really fun, but reasonably safe. A good scramble for beginners.
Brilliant film Stripey i always wondered what it would be like to climb up one of they sisters looks great mate :)
Thanks a lot Peter!
Nice video. I have done Bidean before but went the ‘’super’’ easy route up via the lost valley. That looked a bit too exposed for my liking. Well done. 👏🏴
Cheers Andrew, yeah the Lost Valley route is really nice as well definitely worth a go! 👍
To be fair, the lost Valley gully still gets very steep at the top and the scree underfoot is . . . Less than ideal 😅😅
Mind you, I've only ever descended the gully - and I do think up climbing is generally more straightforward than coming back down 😅
I had a heavy pack full of camping equipment and there were still snow packs when I was coming down the gully so fair to say I was taking it very, very slowly 🤣
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks Lewis edwards!
Is the angle of the lens making it look steeper than it actually is cause some of that looked almost vertical but you were walking up one handed?
It is actually nearly vertical at the start. I do film with a GoPro 7 black on linear. Hope it helps 👍
@@StripeyHatGuy probably too steep for me regardless! I enjoyed that video
Thanks a lot. Not sure if you have done the zigzags, but you could always go just around the corner (roughly 10-15m) and have a look at the nose/easy route and then decide. My personal opinion is, that it is a wee bit more difficult than the curved ridge at the start but flattens out fairly quick and it is only 120m (ht gain) altogether or so.
@@StripeyHatGuy I’d probably try something much easier to begin with and work up from there.
I can highly recommend the pink rib (grade 0.5-1) or the Great Gully Buttress (Grade 1-2). 😊👍
Done Bidean via lost valley, and Nan Lochan on different weekend in the snow, that was very interesting came up onto the ridge between Bidean and Nan Lochan happy days of my youth.
Hi David, sounds really great to do in in snow - hopefully we get a good winter this year ☺️
@@StripeyHatGuy - Great videos by the way, and thank you for taking me places I can no longer reach.
Thanks a lot David hopefully lots more to come 🙌👍
Too much exposure for me stripey! Nice wee film as always! Paul
Cheers Paul, yeah recently the trips are a bit steeper 😃👍
Was up on Bidean on the 14th of July and didn't get many views but that route up looks interesting.
Hi Alistair, such a pity...This way up might be something for a good day or via the ZigZags - they lead you also onto the Ridge. Did the Zigzags on the latest Video 😉👍
Another fine video SHG. You, unfortunately had the same views on BnB as I had a couple of years ago. I was SO looking forward to the views Fortunately it had improved by the time we reached Stob Coire Sgreamhach. It was still a brilliant hike.
Yeah, some days...but as long as it is dry 😎 and the views from Sgreamhach aren't short I think. Stob Coire nan Lochan is quite a view blocker 🤣 Did you go down via the Lost Valley or back via BnB?
@@StripeyHatGuy Down the steep scree into The Lost Valley. It was my first visit to TLV. Perfect completion to the day.
Oh I believe that, stunning place and after the evil steep scree also a nice path for the probably tires leg's 👍
My most recent munro - we took the zig zags, late in the evening (carrying heavy packs with camping equipment! And the rock was wet so no way were we contemplating the Nose - the zig zags were enough with heavy packs and wet rock!)
Pitched camp on top of Gearr Aonach, packed away in the morning to climb over Stob Coire nan Lochan, summitted Bidean & Stob Coire Sgreamach then descended very slowly and carefully through a still slightly snow bound 'Hidden valley gully'.
Then off to the Clachaig for a well earned meal (and a pint for those who, unlike me, werent driving) before heading home
Hi Anthony,
that is a nice route and the Nose is for sure really difficult with a big rucksack in my opinion. Did the zigzags beginning this winter aiming for the broad/twisted gully which had unfortunately not enough snow so just descended via the 'normal' Bidean nam Bian Corrie.
A really nice hike is also along the Beinn Fhada ridge and you might enjoy the wee scramble up Sron na Lairig. 👍
Glen Coe is just such a nice area with many lonely routes!
