Hi Matt, cool video. Recommend runup procedure for boot check @ 80NG. The vacuum at idle doesn't support the boots too well and can give low vacuum warnings. (I once forgot the boots on after a flight and on the next flight couldn't figure out why I was getting master caution sporadically... it was a low vacuum condition due to the boots.
KCMA (Camarillo Airport) home of the greatest breakfast / lunch restaurant on any airport in America ... The Waypoint Cafe
Just make sure you don't show up to the restaurant on Mondays cause they're closed....ask how I know.
@@EricTheBlue2010 As of this June, I will have been hating the Waypoint Cafe for 40 years. I know the manager and all the employees by their 1st names. Such a great place to go ... just don't get there after 8:30am and expect not to wait. Sunday morning is a line to the end of the parking line, and nobody leaves.
So many pilots die because they've gotten into the habit of not using the written checklists and rely on memory. Don't be one of them!
He’s an MIT grad… he’s too smart/too good for that (/sarcasm)
You've gotta think about it like this, strong possibility we'll get a blancolirio, ASI, or pilot debrief video one day
You guys are full of BS check you checklist for that
I particularly enjoy the different camera clips selected by the production staff, director, editor etc. This viewer is pleased with the content flow. Whenever I'm interested I can just download and read a checklist myself; which is more on point - I know.
Good content Matt, regards from Prestwick.
TBM 850 that's entirely new - congrats. Enjoy the journey.
Flew right over Castaic Lake, CA 17:15
The snack carrying capacity of this aircraft is impressive!
Great flight ! thats what I like to see I really enjoy watching you fly I would like you to use a check list but maybe you already used it but edited out .Please leave it in your videos, makes us feel warm and fuzzy.😁
Well Done Matt.
Your copilot seems to know her way around the cockpit, is she also a pilot?
Your flights are fabulous Matt with the TBM. I look forward to more time in the air. Oh and a great way to see a beaming smile in conversation. Actually I have the pleasure to say it was priceless. Onward 🌈 to great relationship an love of aviation.
Sweet and to the point! Thanks Matt!
Great views!
Great video as always. But to fly off with such a complex aircraft without any checklist is incomprehensible to me and not professional, unbelievable!
yeh agree but some people do have a photographic memory and for all we know he knows the checklist and see its in his mind, I need a checklist or id be dead in 30 minutes but if you are super experienced and have an incredible memory its possible to remember the checklists
@@wayne9638He also doesn't seem to write down his IFR clearance, so I assume his memory is much better than mine. But just because he goes through a flow doesn't mean that he doesn't edit out the checklist.
If I were making videos, I would edit them out myself, just like most others do. After all, it clearly gets comments going which helps the RUclips algorithm and increases views which helps with his monetization.
Hey Matt! Another great video. I fly the TBM along with a CJ3, Twin Commander, and Baron. I’d keep some torque in all the way to landing….at least 10% is the recommendation from Daher and Goldberg Aviation. It’s not like the jet where you pull all the power out before touchdown. Have fun! Fly safe!
Why? Do you recommend the same for PC12? What is the reason?
You're also using Avion!? Very nice way to save a few $! Great mx facility.
Very nice of you to bring your mother on this beautiful flight.
He’s older than he looks………..! Bill P
She’s hot, what are you saying
no one can deny this guy is really sharp and efficient, maybe too much confidence but if your a prodigy its a piece of cake compared to the average person who has to be way more methodical
I wonder Matt, did you buy someone's headaches when you bought this airplane?
As usual a beautifully composed and entertaining flight video. TBM 850 is obviously a complex aircraft. The extent of maintenance in first few months of ownership strikes me as worrisome or is this to be expected.
Hi Matt. Regarding IFR departure out of Alpine. Did you reach MEA then entered clouds then contact ATC? It looked like you enter IMC before contacting ATC.
Annette O'Toole is looking good for her age.
This guy really needs to get some proper specific training for the TBM. His checks are at best a generic mish mash lacking at times the required specifics that the TBM requires. Just because it’s a turboprop it does not make it an all weather machine and considering he exercises the far lower limits for approaches and departure limits that are allowable in the USA for private as opposed to commercial ops he is taking off at times without the aircraft correctly setup for the most adverse possibilities.
Interesting. Can you add more info and context? I don't think you're expanding enough on specifics as to what he's missing here.
No check list?
Who was taxiing the aircraft while you were doing pre-takeoff checklists?
this guy NEVER looks happy!

do you need to leave the igniters on the entire time during climb?
Sounds to me like this TBM was sold because it has too many issues.. maybe find a more reliable aircraft?
Great video. Do you think the pilot door is really necessary on the newer TBM's?
What was the problem with the TBM heat man?
Need to know....
Cool video. Why the adversion to using a checklist? I never see you using one. Flows are good but they also need to be backed up with checklists. Are you just not filming that part? As a retired wide body airline Capt this will eventually bite you one day..not “if” but “when”…I’m sure you know that.
Doesn’t set a good example for young or inexperienced flyers watching your videos. Those checklist are written in blood. Do better..
ruclips.net/video/7i7dkpm48EQ/видео.html (but also it’s not a widebody…there’s not really anything you could skip in this airplane that would kill you)
He’s actually shown backing up with the checklist in this aircraft.
@@mattguthmillerI hope so. Forgetting trim or flaps on a jet on takeoff could be fatal.
Is you want to see TBM videos, where the pilot uses his Checklist try
youtube.com/@steveo1kinevo?si=Qq6iKdlBhSF7kGiz
@@mattguthmillerThat is a very poor attitude to have towards safety and proper use of CRM. You do not need to be in a 787 to utilize checklist and standard safety practices. You seem to always be rushing in these videos. People on RUclips look at people like you as role models and I think you are doing them a disservice.
California is probably closer to you and your home, but if I was you, I would have gone to the TBM flight center in Florida.
I believe he takes his TBM for service to Stellar Avion in Camarillo. Quickly becoming the go to facility for TBM Maintenance. Lots of TBM experienced mechanics and several IA's. Very honest also
how is tis compare to Piper M600 ?
Bigger and faster.
Nailed another one Matt great flight !
Matt, previously you mentioned pressurisation failure in the TBM, do you carry emergency oxygen?
You can see the oxygen masks on the ceiling behind the front seats.
That had to be annoying listening to somebody's ELT going off.
I never heard an ELT going off.🤔
If you're talking about the sound you heard at the beginning of the video during the take off.
You might be thinking the engine Ignitors was an ELT sounding off.
They do sound similar.
You'll notice just before takeoff he put a switch from auto to on.
That is the engine ignitors.
They create electrical spikes that bleed over into the headsets.
Normally, you keep them in auto, and they will only come on if the engine were to fail for some reason, and they would already be on to try and reignite the engine.
However, in icing or precipitation conditions, you would turn them to the on position. So, the igniters will run continuously to prevent a flame-out in the turbine engine.
Most turbine and jet engines operate this way. They have a switch that allows you to turn the ignitors on manually and keep them on.
I guess she’s ready to go.. no need to ask.
Agreed. He is a super pilot. Not required.
That tbm is a mile high machine 😂
Very nice. Is this plane safe to fly in ice? I saw a video about some accidents due to icing including one in the new 960. The man said that the turboprop is not safe in ice.
Tang er😂
No check list and he videos it. Look at me no hands.
Does any RUclips channel not for pilot training force viewers to sit through routine check lists?
Pretty sure your new girlfriend has her A20s on backwards
The mic boom is interchangeable for left or right
@@NovackNGoode the boom would have more degrees of freedom if it was on the correct side. The headset itself is labeled left and right. The feed to each ear is discreet. There's also a L or R on the ears. It's also oriented the wrong way.
and the seatbelt straps are inside out....
@@dannyCOTW bruh, you want to joke but having the headset on the wrong way can be an issue if the brain volume switches get messed with and next thing you've got confusion trying to correct something that's not standard.
@@EricTheBlue2010 Ya I'm not even joking, wtf she gonna do if "tighten your seatbelt, brace for landing" is called
first
why you choose this plane?
why not? it's amazing
@@JavaT6437 well thats some great reasons.
It’s fast and pressurized
I wouldn't mind some flying lessons from your co- pilot!! She makes the turbo spin 😅🌶️🇦🇺
Like the new hair cut Bro.
You in a rush Matt? Take your time man
I didn't know the TBM 850 could fly that high. You could fly over Mt. Everest.
Service ceiling of 31K
Because flying in Russian airspace is less fun than Tibetan/Chinese airspace?
Love the new TBM! It will be nice to get the bugs out too! 8) --gary
Mathew use your check list, I love your channel I want you to grow old flying planes. I believe In God and I believe He wants us to be wise and do everything in our power to show others safety in practice. Your checklist ensures you that you have checked everything in case something happens, if something happens you have a burning question in your mind “did I miss something on the check list” or if something fails will you use the failure check lists.
Planes houses cars money will not follow you after you die. Just a word for thought
That's right. Tie your camel first and then trust in Allah.
Hi Matt, is there a video covering the Bonanza to TBM story??
Did I miss him picking up his IFR before he flew into the clouds or did he fly into the clouds on a 1200 code?
He picked it up the ground via phone, we just didn't ATC's side of the call.

not a checklist in sight!
You might be right, but some new electronic checklists are in the panel - I do see him looking at the panel between checks.
And he doesn’t write his clearances down. Always is rushing.
Then expects ATC to cater to him non stop throughout flight because he appears to do nothing more than put in a simple departure to destination DCT flight plan with little to. O evidence of actual pre flight planning that is not reliant on an iPad
He writes his clearances on his phone scratch pad don't know if he saves them for possible future reference.
SNACK DRAWER. But, having a flying potty is top o` my list.
You can get that for the TBM.
Chuckled when you said to turn the heat down.
hahhha same here
Good to see you're back atop your snack game. Those Marketplace treats from Target are the bomb, but I'm sure not as good as your mom's treats.
Can't believe you didn't see the total eclipse.
The recommendation from the manufacturer is to always leave de ice on in all conditions where there is a possibility of ice even. And also NOT to use auto pilot. They say this is because if you get ice the autopilot correct for the change in flight performance until it cant anymore and you fall down like a brick with no possible recovery. Why don’t you follow the recommendations in either the previous video or this?
... If it falls like a brick because of icing, there will be no video about it, so why do you care!
Then probable cause can do a update
He never does. His ADM in general is chaotic.
@@videopyc I’m talking in general what the recommendation from the manufacturer is. The fatal crash last week was from just such a scenario as he had in his last video. The pilot failed to use proper de-icing and left the autopilot on until the autopilot disconnected from being unable to correct for the change in flight characteristics. There is a reason why newer models have automatic de-icing. I’m just mentioning this out of concern. It’s not meant to critique his flying. I’m just concerned he has not gotten the memo.
The cause of the reno event is unknown of course. Unless you are an accident investigator assigned to the case with complete access to all the data.
