Iraq is also known for it's prosperity during the golden era of islam, architecture and mosques. The food and hospitality is also great.

The media doesn’t paint the people of Iran negatively, however the society and the country overall is under control by a Islamic oppressive regime. I would argue the media gives a fair picture of the regime, it’s an extreme dictatorship.
It's the hospitable culture. Same for Syria and other countries in the Middle East. He could have been from the US and they would probably have treated him as a valued guest. This is a reminder to us in the West as well. When people from the Middle East pay a visit, wish them welcome.

I served in Iraq from August 2007 - June 2008. I have always had a strong interest in going back and seeing the country from a completely different perspective. I'm glad things seem so much better there.
