High in the mountains of Tucuman province in northwest Argentina, 83-year-old Pedro Luca has been living alone in a cave for 45 years.
Filmmaker Mathieu Orcel first made his journey to Argentina in June 2018 to make a documentary about Pedro’s life.
In the beginning of this year, Mathieu travelled to finish filming but was caught in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. He found himself quarantined in Buenos Aires, far from the mountains of Tucuman.
Facing isolation in an apartment, he sought advice from Pedro on how to live alone.
“It’s here, withdrawn from the world, that our spiritual path opens up,” Pedro said.
Communicating via video calls, Mathieu was able to continue his documentary with the help of Pedro’s nephew and a local filmmaker.
The film reveals Mathieu and Pedro’s contrasting experiences as they each discover what it means to be isolated.
“We suffer from loneliness and isolation, stalked by coronavirus. But in the cave, the predator that threatens Pedro’s only companions, the goats that choose to stay with him, is the cougar that always prowls, invisible”, Mathieu reflects.

I am Argentinian, I lived for about 15 years in faraway places that no longer exist, and I grew up among deserts and jungles... For me it was very normal not to have phones or some of those amenities that we take for granted today... I fished in the river, strolled through the pampas thinking that people should be crazy enough to live so crowded in the cities... I still believe it, I could never really adapt to living in a city... It's annoying, uncomfortable, suffocating... Sometimes I miss my life in the countryside... Drinking water from the river knowing it is pure and clean water... And yes.. It tastes very different to the water of the cities...

A simple honest man who wants to live alone he is smart enough to know that animals won't hurt him but people might, something has happened to him as a young man which made him seek solitude, He is a great man
maybe family matter or his past love.
That’s just as saying animals won’t help you but humans might.
Smart enough to know that animals wont hurt him......... lol.
He realized early on that people can be mean, rude, manipulative, etc... maybe he got hurt and said eff it all and left. The social games are not for everyone!

you cannot understand ?he left society because it doesn't fulfill him. he's in his natural environment and he's happy about it.
it's nothing worst than being around people you may know for years just after a while to turn their back on you and this is where our society heading right now.
For the most part people are conditioned to not want to be alone. We are born alone we die alone. Being alone is a natural thing people fear what they're not used to though.

An incredible story of an extra ordinary man. Everyone's got a reason behind everything they do or achieve. This is mind-blowing how he was able to escape the man made jungle for 45 years. Just imagine a few of us without our cell phones 📵 for just 30mins alone...lol unbelievable and unheard story in this Century!
It's not really that rare, in a country the size of Mexico where only 45 million people live and most live in a big city there is a lot of empty space...
Let's not get there, its a vast topic. What's fascinating is that in 21st century this is a rare thing to hear about, and hats off to the director & the team behind this incredible story to bring out to the world amidst this pandemic. I've only seen scenes like this in Sci-Fi movies and not in real

La calidad de la filmación es mas bien floja, y el autor dice que tuvo que cortarla a la mitad (a la mitad de qué ¿de 10 minutos?. El guion, si no inexistente, igual de malo o peor aún. Ni hay información previa de quién es Pedro, qué hacía antes, edad, por qué está ahí, etc.
La entrevista, cuatro preguntas insípidas y peor contestadas, (los subtítulos en inglés, mas que mostrar, interpretan lo que no se entiende). Lo poco que viene a expresar claro, en lo mal que se explica el pobre hombre, es decir que no hay que tener miedo a la muerte, y que se contradice así mismo cuando dice tener miedo a la gente, y el pavor que le tiene al jaguar (él lo llama, o farfulla león) que merodeaba cerca de las cabras.
Luego, lo de ese "aislamiento completo" (Man living in complete isolation) que da título o introducción al video, pues tampoco encaja... hay cobertura de teléfono, tiene pilas para la linterna, cartuchos para el rifle, mate para la bombilla, y mucho miedo a la gente (no deben de andar muy lejos).
El añadirle al tema un paralelo con la tragedia que estamos pasando y la cuarentena por el Covid, no justifica para nada la mala historia sobre Pedro, un pobre hombre con algún tipo de tara psíquica y física (tiene que sufrir el pobre con esa mala y poca dentadura) con sus ropas y su decaimiento, que más me parece un sintecho de cualquier gran ciudad al que habría que atender, que un idílico Robinson Crusoe ecológico como nos quiere mostrar el vídeo, y como le piropean en los comentarios: "Bendiciones de alá", "hermoso y puro", "quisiera ser yo", "no le falta de nada", "Pedro es una inspiración", "un hombre remarcable y extraordinario", "bendiciones", "encontró a dios", "está en equilibrio con el planeta"... y muchas más que se asemejan a las personas filmándose unas a otras dando aplausos en los balcones, o foros religiosos o terraplanistas del venga a mandar "bendisione" (sic) y que me da mucho que pensar sobre lo de soltar la lágrima fácil viendo culebrones. Muy lejos de un interesante documental y en las antípodas de un Dersu Uzala como alguien, desde la ignorancia, lo comparó. Y, excepto ésta, ni una sola crítica en los cientos de comentarios.

I am Argentine and this documentary really moved me, the truth is that what this man does with his age is admirable. I hope that you can get on with your life that you love so much that you can help when you need help.

Living in complete isolation...until now.
I wish he would have spoken more about his spiritual path opening up. I live in a city, but I live alone and since I retired, I spend more time in silence. I have felt an opening up in myself, as I have had time to think about my life. I realize I spent a lot of time pursuing what I now see as vain desires. I am nowhere near this man, since he has been alone for 45 years. It would be fascinating to hear his insights on the modern world.
To know who you are , you have to disconnect from the norm , The voices and labeling of people telling u who you as are , isolation in nature teaches you you , you are centered. Unafraid , there's no judgement , ego ,self doubt when you fall in love with nature. There is oneness , and being , Godliness and there is you. Find your self in nature if you feel lost and drafting.
I prefer to spend my life in the sofa eating cheetos, watching Pornhub, touching myself and playing minecraft but ok

There is no dentist out there and ppl lose their teeth when they get old. He avoids the world because of ppl like you who’d rather criticise others.

Good short documentary, but I wanted to know more. What are his daily chores? How does he survive? How many times does he need to go to the city to buy batteries for example? How do we know that he lives there 45 years, no one mentioned 45 years. Where he gets water? etc.
