What a peaceful little village. And what a great collection of fire wood beneath every home. The chicken fence seems like it would be easy to bypass. My chickens hop or fly over their electric fence just about every day.
Enjoyed the vid. Nice to get off the beaten track a bit. Heading over Oct for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to spending a few days in my wife's village a couple of hours north of Vientiane. She hasn't been back since she first came to Oz in late 2019. Thanks for the videos. Always enjoyable viewing 🙂
I live on the western side of those mountains in northern Nan province. The 'bald hill/mountains' type clearing is a bit depressing but does seem to be decreasing and even efforts at reforestation and more sustainable agriculture are happening. But that clearing in Laos in next level and distressing. Thankfully the prevailing winds do not blow towards Thailand from there.
I love Laos, just came back from a trip into Luang Numtha province mountains to visit health care centers. Incredible mountains and friendly people. A very hard life for the indigenous communities. Let the beer Lao flow!
A beautiful resort hotel & not a bad price either.Your trip to the mountain near the Thai border was great.Thank God you both got some decent food. why so much wood I wonder is it cold or just cutting wood to build more homes. What are so many farming in this area.It looks pretty good & can u cross in Thailand from There ty.Always a pleasure watching Ty to both of You.🇨🇦
The road is so straight, rare to see a village with not so many people outside. I am told in Manado of Indonesia they tend to not have grass near the homes fore fear of attracting snakes
I think NeeNee called it right about you being hangry. lol Heck, I would have been too! Cool to see these small villages. I imagine sometimes people are a bit scared of new people coming to town and poking around with a camera. Saying hello in the local language definitely helps to open doors though.
Love your vlogs, very informative. Why are they burning so much? just wondering what these people are growing, or planting, instead of forest?. I guess all the fire wood they store is for cooking, because it is so hot there, you wouldn't light a fire for warmth?, 😊.
🇻🇳Saigon street (Vietnam) thank you my friend for sharing good video. I really like your video. I wish my friend a good and successful day. Greetings from Vietnam to you..💕💜💚
The dogs in Lao are closely related to the SE Asian wild dogs. Dingos are related to them also. I have two Queensland Heelers and they are the greatest dogs I have every had.
Slash and burn is the way of farming in most of Lao among the hill trip people. I wish the government provide other ways so the beautiful forest could be saved.
Great that both wear seat belts! I wonder how many lives could be saved in this part of the world if the governments had a concerted effort to change their driving cultures? A relatively poor country such as Lao could surely get help from international donor governments or NGOs. So much largely needless death and maiming. If either of the creators read this - great video, thank you. I'm thinking of visiting Laos in December from a trip to neighbouring Thailand and I will watch more of your videos.
I have said that all along. They could halve their road toll if they policed seatbelts and helmets. It costs nothing to implement, the government does not have to outlay funds, they just have to fine those who they see not wearing them. Peoples habits will change if it's costing them.. Thanks Charles, safe travels mate
You would have to look beautiful places as like as in front of the decorated lake even must look able to tourist you will get fun well shower.good well again welcome
Hi Todd,,some interesting buildings in those little villages. That girl was surprisingly good looking. If I was along, I might have asked her to come on my adventure. IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY. Border guard husband and all. Lmao I joke of course. I've never had a fling with a married woman,,not even one that's a great cook. Have a happy week ahead,,Ttyl,,,Marlon
So, a question for anyone who might have the answer. Why the slash and burn? Obviously, they are harvesting some of the wood but, some other wood is burned. I thought that they might do it so they can farm the mountain but, that does not seem to be the case. Could it be that they are controlling the forest growth for whatever reason? Or, is it all of the above? I had asked Tsua on his channel but I don't think he understood. Good stuff. It's incredible what you two get into and find.🙏👍
You never missed it Al, I never said. I think it was around 35,000 kip for both our meals/drinks. Not including the healthy tip we gave her for being so friendly and helpful 👍
Quick....run...the farang is in town. I know it well mate. 🤣 Seems like Nene doesn't get motion sickness mate. Mine is terrible. She can't go 10 minutes without throwing up here in HK or when we are in Laos. I tell her it is psychological but she's not having it. Funny thing is, when we went to New Zealand and did a 3,000 Km road trip, she didn't puke once. I remember the first time we went to Vang Vieng, we went on a non-air bus. It was the bloody puke bus. People throwing up all over the place. I don't get motion sickness, but I was close to vomiting just from the smell and sounds of it all.

Are you sure that's not logging. The usual slash and burn doesn't look like` that. In classic slash and burn you find logs laying all over the grounding, Also in old S&B they would leave forest and burn squares off then move on to the next spot This gave the forest time to grow back . So that made it so they would come back to same spot every few years. A kind of crop rotation leaving the bulk of the forest still there. Here there is nothing for miles..They plant around the downed tree trunks as they won't burn The brush and tree top do burn off. S&B has been shown to not hurt the eco-system. Something is wrong with this picture. So I am wondering why no logs on the ground. Maybe logging companies have been here and hauled off the timber. Then these people moved in on it as it is prime growing for dry rice. My wife's family is from the north and she say it is hard to buy dry rice as they don't produce as much as they used too. Iit is good so we buy it when ever we can. Hard to find in Vientiane.
Your title on this post confused me. You were her first, lol, her first what? I was born in Laos in Borikhamxay Province back in the day, far from the city. I believe they burn it so they can grow rice afterwards. It makes the soil rich for growing rice.
Yes, they mostly grow rice there. This video was taken in April, well before planting. No doubt we would see lots of rice there now Fred.
