Prai live in two widespread areas of northern Laos. One group live in Phongsali Province, the northernmost province of Laos, in the Boun-Tai, Boun-Nua, Phongsali and Samphan districts. A large number of Prai also live in Xaignabouri Province, further south. They live in the Hongsa, Xaignabouri and Phiang districts of Xaignabouri Province. Others live in neighboring Thailand. What Are Their Lives Like? The Prai are generally known as a poverty-stricken and despised people, with a poor sense of self-worth. In some places they have hired themselves out to Hmong and Mien as menial laborers. Their hard lives contribute to their generally dejected appearance. Whatever property or wealth a Prai family is able to gather is inherited by the youngest daughter. The Prai "typically subsist by hunting for wild game, raising domestic animals and farming small plots of land. Since metal is taboo in their culture, they are particularly skilled at manipulating bamboo to make everything needed around the house; for floor mats and baskets they interweave pared bamboo with a black-colored grass to create bold geometric patterns." What Are Their Beliefs? There is some Buddhist influence among the Prai in Laos. Several villages are reported to have temples, but the majority of Prai remain bound to traditions and a host of evil spirits that they feel forced to continually placate.
Todd, I feel your sadness for not having enough for everyone, but you and Nee Née have done much more than the rest of us. Thanks for all you’re doing!
Some people might think you help these poor souls because you are successful in life. I believe you are successful because you have a compassionate heart. Absolutely inspirational.
Jeez mate, your production style is now tip top pro level - that opening sequence of car, drone, car and drone was brilliant in showing where you were - a total of 10 seconds and any viewer get it straight away. A great vid of an unusual place - well done Todd - huge thumbs up. No amount of personal charity work will ever compensate and will just scratch the surface bud BUT those you touch will always remember a strangers kindness so think of the positive effects you two are having - its humbling mate. The black & while imagery really captures the peoples self respect, pride and gratitude - brilliantly captured mate, got that damn dust in my eyes again ya bugger. Even after all these years I cant find a coping mechanism to get me over the Resource rich but cash poor people - jeez I must have bought hundreds of school uniforms by now lol.
Hey mate how's things!? Cheers, appreciate your kind words.. ya big sook 😉 Yeah I'm sure you have.. it takes very little to help many here and I'm sure many have noticed what you do also! Stay safe brother 👊

@@nikkimclay5474 it seems you're the only one who thinks so.. normally I'd ignore a comment like this but this is your 3rd negative comment in less than 20 minutes about people who have virtually nothing. I was going to praise you on how your photography has improved, then you stopped at that village and the work you do for the Laos people is what's most important
Sorry but I must make a second comment. regarding the closing b/w photos and soundtrack, artistic and powerful. Your ability to tell a story with video and photos is outstanding.
My first thought of the couple living on the mountainside is, where do they get drinking water? Looking around you don't see the barest of necessities, water. I don't know how they manage. Some of the most resilient people ever. After reading your pinned comment you have to think to yourself that, that is a heavy burden to carry around. You and Neenee are doing some wonderful things. 🙏👍
Thank you so much for sharing these fantastic videos of the Lao people. I lived in Thailand for 17 years and I can definitely relate to your life in Laos. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
the last photo epitomises two things. The lady smiles with the wear of decades of optimism in the face of poverty; the youngster looks into the distance with a slightly furrowed brow, with the same optimism I hope. You bring joy Todd the Father Christmas of Laos. 23:00 fussy Squid Game girl "she finally settled for something" - brilliant, she skipped away! Love it
It's heart wrenching seeing these people, so gracious and grateful while so poor. I can completely understand how you Todd and Neenee feel when the stock runs out. Each and every person who received something never failed to thank you. Western kids have forgotten what hardship means, have no idea what hardship is.
Todd, this was a stunning video. A beautiful score. The music complements the video. So good. Sending you lots of love. Jim and Harriet.💖💖 Richmond, Va.
Hello,Once again what a beautiful and moving video! Thank you for bringing us back to reality. What many Westerners often forget. Congratulations to you and see you soon.💗🙏
Beautiful countryside. What strikes me about these remote peoples in your vlogs is how clean and orderly these villages are the poorer they are. Here I am in Birmingham UK and some of these neighborhoods look more trash tips. Only a matter of how one defines wealth! But you’re right Todd - all the reading about slash & burn doesn’t really make a point until you are amongst them.
Todd, great work as usual. I wish more people would do as much as you. The positivity that you and Nenee brings to these people's lives is beyond words.
Brilliant video as always, mate. God bless you and NeeNee always. It’s a shame you couldn’t have another truck of goods following you with clothing and medical supplies. I made a donation to your PayPal account to help you spread the charity work that you both do. Cheers, mate, and both of you stay safe and healthy.
John, your generosity is second to none.. you helped a lot of people this trip, and now will be helping many more on our next in the coming months. Thank you my friend 👏
Thank you for the stunning views of the far north. Always wanted to get up there. Beautifully editied and the photography was amazing. I think about all the people you help and wish more of us could it. They have next to nothing. Thank you again.
would be nice if some rich people got together and converted a bus into a mobile hospital to provide medical care for those in need. im sure the ladies would like some under garments as well. thanks todd and nenee for helping with what you can.
Ay Todd, you’ve every right to sling that dagger at those who should do more. But regarding a mobile hospital bus, I think that is a great idea, but a bit more complex to execute. I’m willing to support one such mobile hospital to see how it would work. Here in the U.S., my wife and have donated funds to purchase and furnish a fully equipped mobile vaccination van, but that was in partnership with our alma mater’s School of Pharmacy. Todd, do you know of any connection to such school or hospital in Vieng Chanh who would be a good partner in such a charitable venture? Btw, another gem of a video; amazing vistas, and as always, great music selection.❤

Logging must have done this as slash and burn for hill tribes do not the burn the logs. The trees are hard wood and don't burn easily. There are no logs on any of this. I don't see them farming it either.?? Also with slash and burn the hill tribes only do a few acres at a time. They leave the rest of the jungle there. then the rotate the area every few years. The hill on which taro are grown is barren and devoid of trees, how about starting some trees (fruits trees) planting project (with the help of govt and NGO of course)
Hi Guy's Taro would be an excellent vegetable (for American(in particular) to add to their diet as it has twice the fiber of potatoes and many minerals and vitamins missing in the average western diet. It is also very low in fat and protean. As for growing on the side of a hill like that on that soil, I cant imagine how it is worth the enormous effort they put into it. Once jungle is cleared it is dead within 2-3 years, which is why they are constantly clearing it. Unlike the northern hemisphere the nutrients are all in the plants, so once cleared the soil dies quickly. What I would advise them to do is create swale's that would stop the rain sliding down the hill. I would also change to cassava which is more drought tolerant plant. The eye issue the woman had is cataract (a clouding of the eye lenses) which effects 50% of all Americans over 65. Check out "Fred Hollows" who was a Kiwi who went decades ago) around Australia and the Pacific doing operations on a production line basis at $25 a pop. Causes (apart from ageing) are bright sunlight, high blood pressure, diabetes, alcohol, and genetics (in other words your parents had the same issues and that was passed on to you). The water supply was interesting in that it seemed to work at the top of a hill with no pump
