Soba update: I was out of town but I weighed him as soon as I got back. Soba weighs 623g. He eats FT small rat every 2 weeks. Thanks for featuring him today Bob! It was great to see him as a baby.
YES! I’ve been waiting for this. Watching Marie crawl out of her bin as a baby brought tears to my eyes. She was an amazing little girl right from the start and she’s only gotten better! She’s no longer confined to the playpen when out of her enclosure because I’ve snake proofed the room they’re in. So she has the whole room now. She’s so bold and curious and I can’t imagine my life without her. Thank you Bob, for producing such a beautiful animal. She is much loved!! 🐍❤️🐍
Oh my goodness, they are all getting so big! It's so fun to see them a year later. I'm very excited to see the future updates from the new clutch as well; they are all SO CUTE. So glad Kent was kind enough to give us a Kent update.
I loved this update of last year‘s clutch! I really enjoy your content for this exact reason, Bob. To me, your videos are especially helpful because you place an emphasis on each individual snake’s personality and care. As a prospective ball python keeper, it can be very difficult to get an idea of what life is like with a pet ball python if all I see are breeder-oriented videos tossing hatchlings on a table and talking about genetics. This is what I prefer to see: entertaining content that also educates about how to give these animals a healthy and enriching life. Thank you so much!
I've got a trouble eater that ate without striking too. It even did it to a live mouse that I experimented with. The mouse tried to cuddle the snake, and it slowly gave the mouse a bigger hug than it bargained for!
That's crazy! And a pretty bold move to do that with live prey 😄 That kind of thing can't be too common. Although her sister Tiger Lily has done it a couple times as well if I put a rodent against her neck.
I have been hunting calicos for probably 2 years now. I think yours is hands down the best looking I've seen in quite a while. I really love those heavy expression calicos. I would say the whole family is gorgeous and I definitely have a deep appreciation for Tiger Lily.
I can't decide which I love better. So not much help there. ... but question Bob, can you breed brothers and sisters together? 🤔. Thank you for the shout out again on the keychains on your last live!! People can just direct message me on your discord from your member list if anyone is interested. I believe the pictures of them are still on there. Have a great week!!
No problem, happy to shout you out. You can breed related snakes - it often happens in the wild. Line breeding works well for reptiles but will eventually downgrade the genetics of the animal. Its good to mix new bloodlines in.
For COI % I believe breeding brothers and sisters from the same clutch is supposed to be the highest in terms of causing inbreeding depression. Pairing offspring back to parents is actually seen as better, with uncles/aunts to nieces/nephews and/or half-siblings to half-siblings being better still. A few experiments in the 80's on Diamond Rattlesnakes and Green Iguanas found evidence of inbreeding depression, cranial scale deformations and infertility respectively, within just 1-3 generations of close inbreeding. Unfortunately there's been no specific research on inbreeding depression in ball pythons yet but it does go to show it's possible they're more susceptible to it than we're told to believe. Since we don't know current advice seems to be: If you decide to do it keep a very close eye on the COI of your stock, and if infertility/low immune systems, etc, do show up, inbreeding depression could be a possible culprit. From the other breeders I've talked to, as long as you outbreed a generation afterwards you probably won't run into issues, but many seem to go by the rule that full sibling to full sibling is a no-go zone.
Im so glad I watched this even a year later. Ive been semi concerned about both of mines growth rate. They never miss a meal , I feed them every week, and they are steadily gaining weight but when I see how big your 1yo males are then I look at my 8 and 9mo they seem small compared to yours. So you talking about slow growing has put my mind at ease.
What fabulous snakes for your very first clutch! I'm so glad they're all doing so well! There's just no way I can choose between Dolly and Tiger Lily. They both have something unique and gorgeous going on. I'd be proud to own either of them... Or both as you do! Can't wait for the new clutch update! 🤘🏻☺️💕
I honestly can’t choose between Tiger Lily and Dolly! Tiger Lily has fantastic coloring and is just a stunning snake, but I adore Dolly’s calico expression and head stamp. They’re both adorable. Ball pythons are cute their entire lives but babies and yearlings are a whole other level of cute. I’m slow-growing my own yearling ball python and she’s just a normal but she’s amazing.
This was great. I discovered your channel a little over a month ago whilst researching and educating myself after rescuing our girl Bindi. My daughter and I literally binge watch episodes! Love all the info, grace, interactions with your snakes, comedy, and your willingness to respond to a pm quickly and kindly! Can not get enough or thank you enough for all your content! Both girls are stunning, but I would have to say Tigerlily has a bit more glam.
Great video, BUT I think I loved the comments below from Lori and SobasMom about their snakes even more. It's wonderful knowing they have gone to good homes!!!
Great video as always Bob! I really love the clutch updates. It shows how much you care about the babies you’ve facilitated and it shows you’ve chosen great keepers!! One day I’ll be able to get one of The Green Room Python babies!
Congrats on 10000 man you earned it. As for your question My little guy is 2 years old now and I feed him a smaller meal once every week and half, he strikes for a few then he will ignore it and I have to leave it. Also I do mice, rats and baby chicks
Dolly and Tigerlily are both super pretty. But if I had to choose, (and only since you asked us lol) my pick would be Dolly. I'm starting to absolutely love the look of calicos, and she's a wonderful example of the look. Obviously, I like her mom too for the same reason. Haha, I should not have added a new morph to my growing list of 'favorite' ones, but alas I have anyway. And it's mildly ridiculous, because as I consider getting a second snake (yeah... that's a thing that's inevitably bound to happen eventually) the choice only became harder!
so fun to see your baby's n how they've grown. beautiful ..soba love the markings...I'm still trying to gather my enclosure n all .slow Goin. but for shure I want my bp🐍

@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you! Must have missed those, I'll definitely go back and find em to watch. Just offered last night and she struck defensively twice but wouldn't take it. Can't help but wonder if she's intimidated by the thongs or indignant at the notion of a dancing zombie rat😅
When do you start assist feeding ? I have a baby she weighs 105 grams, she’s had one meal with me (I had to place it in and shut the light off and she eventually ate it) she’s refused her last two feeds, doesn’t want anything to do with it. Will crawl right over it lol she’s so little I worry about her losing weight. All my other snakes eat fine so I’m kind of at a loss.
I she's eaten at least once with you before i'd try to play the waiting game with her a little longer, Ball Pythons can go quite a while without losing serious weight. I'd keep an eye on her weight and only resort to assisting if absolutely necessary, if she's already developed a healthy hunting/feeding response, assist feeding could negatively affect it.
@@panq8904 yeah it’s definitely my last option. She just looks so tiny and little I don’t want her to go down hill quickly lol I’m going to try a few more tricks and wait a few more weeks. Hopefully she’ll eat with no assist needed 🙂

between freya and tiger lilly, IMO neither is "better" than the other, they both look amazing! If I had to choose though, Id go for freya cause Im into the more natural looking snakes! I think freya is a great combo of a natural look and a cool morph with that white belly she's got
There's no way to tell visually with this species (even though some inexperienced people will say otherwise) There are two ways to sex them but you need to have a vet or someone who knows what they're doing do it.
It's better to judge body condition. You can't really tell if a snake is over or under weight by their age/weight. Your snake is still growing so I'm sure they're fine but feeding every 10-14 days at this point would be healthy for them if you're not already doing it.
