Funny story about offering your hand. So I was changing my BP's water one day fairly soon after getting him. He came out to check me out. I thought "oh, neat, he's coming up to me - maybe he'll crawl up on me." Nope. He was moving very slowly and deliberately, stalking, like how he stalks feeder rodents. He took a strike pose. I didn't want to agitate him, so I balled my fist up and took the bite in between the knuckles. As soon as he hit, he recoiled and looked very confused that my fist was obviously not the meal he expected. He looked around for a bit, seemingly confused, and then backed up into his hide. I forgot I had just handled a feeder rodent box. It was the only time he's ever bitten me so far. I'm glad I was able to take it without jumping so the whole experience didn't scare him or make him nervous.
@@Ur_Local_Royale_High_Fan_Lala I wouldn't worry about it. Just do your best to not care if you get bit. It's unlikely and not all that big a deal if it does.
When you talk about short, positive interactions with your snakes, it reminds me of what Kevin from NERD calls “threads of trust”. The more positive threads, the more comfortable with you and confident in themselves they’ll be. My rescue Zeus asks to come out of his enclosure just about every night now other than feeding day and the day after or when he’s going through ecdysis. Knowing that he’s comfortable enough to want to be out exploring and interacting with me (he’ll come over and rub his head against my hand/thumb if I rest it palm up nearby) makes me feel like I’m doing things correctly and have earned his trust and that can be a hard thing to earn with a snake who is older and had to endure poor husbandry and being handled when the human wanted instead of having a choice. Thanks for another great video Bob. ☺️🤘🏻
I have to say that this is one of my favourite snake channels next to Clint’s reptiles and snake discovery. I’ve been thinking about buying my first ball python for a while and this account has been a great guide. Sending lots of love from the Netherlands:)
Your neural pathways explanation made perfect sense. I had really underestimated snake's intelligence before watching your videos. Great to be actually learning something that's worth knowing.
Thank you Justin for the info. On when, where, and what to look for when doing so. By the way I absolutely love your videos and you and your brothers beards.
This will probably get lost but I just wanted to say thank you for what you do, I recently rescued a baby ball python and i knew a decent amount but your videos really helped me with the little guy I have now. Thank you for posting what you know and helping us all
The Kent skits are hilarious. My brother-in-law was born in Africa and loves to joke that my python is just waiting for an opportunity to eat me 😆 Your set up is more like a breeder rather than a new owner. It might be a good idea to discuss enclosure set ups that are at chest height. Coming at a snake from above can scare them. Especially with snakes that don't have the greatest eyesight. I've had a lot of success taming my reptiles with short neutral and positive interactions that I build on until I can handle them for 15 - 30 minutes. They always let me know they are done and want to go back into their home. Also, body language like tong flicking and breathing changes are a good indicator of the animal's comfort level. If you take the time to get to know an animal by watching them and then altering your behavior to make them feel comfortable you can build a bond. Or at least the animal will understand that you aren't there to harm them. I love creators on RUclips that share their knowledge on how to care for exotic animals.
From South Africa here, your video helped me and my family a Mill! We got a 1 year BP that wasnt really used to be being handled. I setup the Most amazing enclosure as she was used to only a small enclosure with no " toys" and just a hide and water bowl. She is currently in her 6 feet enclosure with proper heat/cold side humidity and Allot of plants and high reaching logs to explore. It took about 3 months of getting her used to us and for her to stop trying to run away. We are at a point where she actually comes out of her hide and coming towards my hand by herself which is great, and she Loves sitting on on my lap watching tv.
New sub here, Bob! I’ve never owned a reptile of any kind before, but I’ve been thinking about getting a snake. I find your videos very informative and very well done. I don’t know what “I don’t know” yet so please keep churning out the great videos, and I’ll at least be able to make an informed decision!
I have a nippy snake, it’s really when I first try and get her out of her enclosure, she spends all the time in her hide and will even strike when I’m grabbing her water or whenever my hand is in there, she has landed maybe 4 times, it’s not that bad. I will definitely try to just let her come out on her own and do some slow socializing now, before she gets too big and those bites are worse!
My best advice for both situations whether food aggressive or defensive is to touch them a little bit every time you're in the enclosure. Obviously not when feeding, and handling multiple times a week. My king snakes were the first snakes that ever bit me and my Mexican black king snake bit me for over a year. More more so food and also my Cali king anytime I handle other snakes you have to be very cautious to make sure you wash your hands and put hands sanitizer on. I heard from many people though that king snakes are more likely to buy anyways before I had this species. I never was afraid of any other animal but it's definitely working with them and now I understand them. But like I said it could happen in any time and my Cali king still musk's me when in shed. But one thing you'll never have to worry about king snakes is that they never starve like they'll literally eat during shed. And that's one thing that's a positive. You'll never waste money on food with a king snake. Even if someone else didn't eat, they'll eat. They'll be the garbage disposal. I say work with handling the top third of the body slowly like every day and that's one thing. If definitely with the food defensive snake make sure you wipe hand sanitizer, alcohol over your arms and hands, even your clothes when you handle these snakes, and three Make sure to handle every time in the enclosure. Just a little pet a touch. Make sure that they have your scent. This has worked significantly for me.but my Cali king still musk's at times not when he can see though.
Hey man, i finally found someone who is informative and basically answers all my questions. After 12+ years my parents finally bought me my first ever snake! He’s a pastel lesser calico od yb. Quite crazy for a first snake 😅. Just wanted to ask just for quick temps, i live in Malaysia and in general the humidity is always 70+ and i used newspaper. I dont have a heating system because temps go 32C during the day and dropes to 29C at night. Half of his cage is kind of next to a window which is basically a natural way of heating. I initially was thinking a must for bedding wud be repti chip etc hut godamn sometime humidity does upto 90 sometimes 😂. Its been a week and yesterday i picked him up for the first time which he was quite tense but after a minute he started to move and flick his tongue around alot.
I've had a Kingsnake that would hiss and strike like a Bullsnake. I got bit every single time I took it out or even if I just move stuff around and it would not let go. I'm kinda glad I had that experience because now I'm less reactive to getting bit. I then learned that how you react to the snake will affect the situation and how the snake behaves after the initial take.
The beard is definitely a pillow of DOPENESS lol. I have a new BCI & I’m implementing the sit by his enclosure without touching him method. If I pick him up it’s not to handle him but to let him explore me & around me. It’s working so far. I’ve already been struck at a couple of times before starting to do this & i haven’t been struck at since.
Thank you for this video. I’m a zoology student and in future I plan to focus on reptile learning and communication through body language and benefits of animal assisted intervention. I appreciate the empathy and patience you show to all your animals. It takes a special kind of person to put in the work to understand animals that are seemingly so far removed from us as mammals. I am opening a small therapy zoo in Edinburgh, Scotland very soon and I want to show people that snakes and lizards are not scary. All the information you’ve provided on your channel has been very insightful and helpful. All the best 💚
Another slice of West Coast G.O.A.T fried gold. May I add a little something. We have daily handling/exploring sessions, except prior to and after feedings. When we check their hides for waste we always gently rub them. Some of them will even let us rub their heads while they're in their enclosures. Once out and exploring they will crawl up our arm. They all seem to enjoy their chin and cheek rubs.👍🏾🪖🦅🇺🇸
🙌🏼 Another great & informative video!! 💯 I just got another baby last week & I’m still working on the one I got a couple of months ago 😍 So thank you so much for this video!! 💚😘
this is great advice for a new or even experienced snake owners time. i did exactly this with my newest baby banana, including opening the lid and just being in the room. he is now pretty comfortable around me and i bring him into the living room with me now. one thing ive noticed is he tends to try and back up a lot which makes handling difficult for a second with how hes moving. perhaps im just supporting him too far up his neck or he just isnt comfortable with where hes going. either way, socializing is very important to turn your pet into more of a member of the family! thanks for the advice bob, and congratulations on 10k!
Thanks Eric, glad you liked this one! I find that snakes back up if they don't think they can move forward either because they're blocked or scared. You might reorient him and see if that changes his direction.
I love your videos they are so informative and help a lot. We just brought home a baby a little over a week ago and I’ve been watching your videos for about 2 months now and I feel like an expert lol! Thank you! I’m glad your a breeder that also believes in bioactive also, not many of you guys around.
Man I'm so glad I found your videos.. your beards way better than mine so that's why i clicked 😅 but what I've learned for my new kingpin ball python Lucy makes up for it had her a month and you really helped me. I subscribed and can't wait to see more and learn more.
Great informative video for beginner keepers Bob! I’m still slowing socializing Howl-luckily he’s normally not super nervous-so this is good refresher for me❤❤
For a split second before I read it I thought the thumbnail was yawning snakes and it was about how to get your snakes to sleep 🤦♀️ I think I need more sleep, or coffee. Great content as usual!
This is great. My guy is still somewhat young (less than a year) and we've had him about a month. He's a little gun shy. Hasnt struck any of us and once we have him he's great, but he does tend to beat it to get away from us.
Hey, I got good news for you. I already found my lost ball python that gone missing for 3 weeks..I don't know what happened but she just showed up in front of my cabinet. Thank you for the tips on how to find em and giving me hope that she might return one day and lo and behold she's here now...Thank you!
Thank you for releasing all these amazing really informative videos I'm planning on getting a bp soon but I'm still doing research and these videos have helped a lot
That's my favorite part of owning a snake. Building a relationship with this creature that has no genetic imperative to have any relationship with anyone. It's rewarding. My carpet pythons are my favorite, whating them mellow out from baby to year one is AWESOME
New subscriber here! I just bought my first ball python, I´ve been reading a lot on their care and last night I set up the enclosure ready for him/her later today. This is very good information on learning how to read their body language and how to handle them. The python I picked up was the most "social" one, so I hope we will develop a good relationship
Happy to subscribe.. thankyou so much for so much information and making it easy to apply to my snake which i have recently purchased because of watching your videos and seeing how beautiful and wonderful ball pythons are.. Thankyou so much
I just had to subscribe because RUclips tricked me into thinking I was subscribed because I’ve been watching your videos. Thanks for reminding me! Awesome videos!
yes stimulation of the snake brain got to be so impt . hope I'm as lucky as you to get a sweetie of a bp.love to see them free roam .bear one of my fave .I love pied
Alrighty. Other than a few livestreams, I am all caught up. I shall now wander over to the Patreon page and get signed up. Was going to wait & do that as a Christmas present to myself, but I'm not very good at delayed gratification!!!!
@@GreenRoomPythons I'm spending more for GRP than I am for Snake Discovery- let that sink in . . . I REALLY wanted a sticker pack. Am I a 45 yo grown ass woman, yup. Still gonna need that sticker pack. Thanks -"(Mid)Western Hognose"
They just trying to get their bearings and figure out what's out there. They're picking up scent particles on the tongue and bringing it into their Jacobson's organ and that's what tells them what's around in the general vicinity.
My baby usually stays out with me about 2 hours, when I show him his home, he'll look and then go up my arm, or sometimes he'll go inside and come back out. I guess he's an explorer lol he's in blue now, noticed when I was changing his water dish so he just hiding and drinking water.
I am a rookie regarding snake keeping, I just have a year old dwarf boa imperator and I managed to make him feel confortable being handle but I was wondering if I go too far by imagining that he enjoys chin rub? When I do that he stops moving and when I stop it "looks" like he is wondering why did i stop?
I got my girl around a week ago she is now around 3-4 months old and exept for watering and feeding I haven`t bothered her so far. but do I just go in lift up the hide and pull her out? If I was a snake I would not really like this I think 😥
My spider ball is usually ok with me walking by his enclosure and moving things. I’d I take him out he’s only tense while I pick him up but then great. However recently there are sometimes I walk up to the enclosure to look at him or even just walk by him and he quickly goes into a ball and moves muscles as though he’s very uncomfortable. I’m worried about him but there isn’t really anywhere else I can put him with less traffic. Should I be concerned? He eats and sheds just fine.
I clicked on this because I got a pretty big tank with lots of places to climb and hide. My thing is I want to start handling him more but I don’t know if going in there and taking him out from his hide is a good idea. Naga only comes out at night so I don’t know how to approach her
i bought a snake from a breeder and she handled fine no defense or anything. I tried to sit her on the ground to let her roam and she tried to run away. I had to rush and put her back in her enclosure. What should i do? Please help.
This is pretty much everything I do with my snakes and all of them will try to go on top of the enclosure when I show them “their home” they reach way up and hook the lid with their jaw and pull themselves up every time. (Front opening) mostly my boa. I have a fearful male ball pythons that did it til I started leaving him be because he stopped eating. He eats now but he gets more fearful the less I interact. I don’t want him to go off food so I keep interaction to a minimum. If I leave his doors open, he will climb out til he sees me and freezes. I’ll slowly reach behind him and just touch him. He will flinch and either make a run for where he was going or pulls back into his hide. I let him retrete back in but if he’s making a dash out, I’ll pick him up and show him “home” and he goes right in his hide. I haven’t done that in a while because he finally went back on food and I don’t wanna mess that up. He likes to stay in his warm hide even if he poops, shed’s or what not, he’s in there. So I cover the door of the hide, clean up tue other side, move stuff around (he comes out at night and checks it out) then take his warm hide and cover the enclosure til he moves to the other, cover and clean up his mess. I’ll leave and come back minutes later and he’s back in the warm hide when I was gone 🤷🏻♂️
I need help. My ball python doesn't like to grab the food from me so I'll set it down in front of him and then he'll take it but it gets substrate on it and I don't know if that's ok for him to consume. He is about a year old and I've only had him for a month now so I'm still new to it.
They can consume a small amount of substrate but if I'm leaving a thawed rodent in for a snake, I put it on a plastic lid that I use as a plate for them.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it! I love carpet pythons but don't have any at the moment. I have ball pythons, superdwarf retics and a blackhead python :-)
Hi Bob and everyone, I've been struggling to find a good hydrometer I have 3 different ones as of right now but they all read different percentages. I have one I paid a decent amount of money for a couple years ago that I had just for my house and it reads way lower than the other 2 I got off Amazon. And those 2 are off by a bit too and I don't know which one if right. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a good hydrometer??
Hi sir, I have a question about mating my two ball python's. How old should my ball python's be before I put my two ball python's together for them to make baby ball python's??
I got a snake he was nice at first but then i stopped handling as much bc i was trying to not handle too soon after feeding and during shedding or during the day...And now i think he's just scared now cuz it's been a while so when i tried picking him up, approaching from the side but he struck at me and bit. Now I'm scared that trying to pick him up is stressing him so much that he feels like he needs to strike. Going to try to sit by his cage more often and build up trust again. But its almost time for him to eat again.
Im getting my first snake on sunday, and i could only get him a HUGE enclosure (150*70*80) is there anything like a too big place for him? I have 3 hides, lots of plants (not real) so he can hide easily from me. Should i just get a small box at first or can i put him in there right away? Thanks for your answer :)
@@GreenRoomPythons it's been two weeks it gets tensed when I put my hands in but never had shown any aggression so far. I would say it's awesome to have them as pets. It's thrill without any risks😁
I purchased a new ball python with no fancy genetics about 3 months ago. I have been watching you videos and it has been very handy. When I first bought the little guy I was a little nervous about handling him... His name is Carlito. He is fairly small still and i was wondering how long it takes to grow to a lager size... How old is the inspector?
I have my new pygmy python's enclosure on a shelf next to my bed. It's just over a month old and likes to sit against the side of the enclosure and look at everything.
The most amazing thing I learned was snakes come out the egg thinking that everything is out to get them, just like humans over time so maybe this can be used as a psychology tactic

Hello! I just brought home a banana black pewter ball Python a couple of days ago (so offering handling is still a few days away) but I’m a part of a Facebook group (I know 😅 but they helped me get set up for him and I just want to do my best for him!) that told me I shouldn’t hold him during the morning or daytime because I’d be waking him up and that over stresses them. Is this true? I just don’t know when to try this stuff! Any advice appreciated. He’s my first!
I try not to always be waking my snakes up to handle them but ball pythons sleep about 20 hours a day so occasionally waking them up for handling is not that big of a deal. I prefer to do it when they're up but waking them up once every week or two for handling session is fine.
Hey bob, I had a question regarding hides for snakes. My Ball Python always moves his hides around at night and sometimes flips them over and it kinda stresses me out lol. Do you think it would be a good idea to put a rock or something to weigh it down to stay in place. I’m just worried that if I was gone or something and he ended up not being able to get his belly heat something bad might happen.
@@GreenRoomPythons of course you’ve helped me so much with learning about snakes and I enjoy your videos even if I didn’t have a snake you are very much appreciated 💗💗
I just bought a 3 year old male Rosy at a local Expo. I was told it was super handleable and not bitey at all. The first time I tried to hold him, he bit me. Is it likely I just didn't give him enough time to acclimate (it's the 16th snake I've owned, own 6 now, first time bitten). I'm now hesitant to handle him, maybe I'll make it worse. Any tips appreciated. I LOVE your videos by the way. I learn SO MUCH about my ball pythons from you.
Glad you're enjoying the videos and congrats on the new snake! Day one is the toughest for a new reptile. It's quite scary for them to go to a new home where they don't know if anything is safe. So defense mode is to be expected for a while until they get settled in a bit. After a week or two and with some gentle interactions, I'm sure that snake will start to relax a bit :-)

If I pick him up it’s not to handle him but to let him explore me & around me. It’s working so far. I’ve already been struck at a couple of times before starting to do this & i haven’t been struck at since.
Thats great! I love boas.
Hey Alex, thanks for the kind words. What you're doing sounds fantastic. Please keep me posted on the therapy zoo.
Those are great ideas! Thanks for the input Kevin!
🙌🏼 Another great & informative video!! 💯 I just got another baby last week & I’m still working on the one I got a couple of months ago 😍 So thank you so much for this video!! 💚😘
Congrats on the new snake! Glad you liked the video :-)
this is great advice for a new or even experienced snake owners time. i did exactly this with my newest baby banana, including opening the lid and just being in the room. he is now pretty comfortable around me and i bring him into the living room with me now. one thing ive noticed is he tends to try and back up a lot which makes handling difficult for a second with how hes moving. perhaps im just supporting him too far up his neck or he just isnt comfortable with where hes going. either way, socializing is very important to turn your pet into more of a member of the family! thanks for the advice bob, and congratulations on 10k!
Glad you're enjoying it! Yeah bioactive isn't practical for most breeders. But it's a fun ongoing experiment for me :-)
Man I'm so glad I found your videos.. your beards way better than mine so that's why i clicked 😅 but what I've learned for my new kingpin ball python Lucy makes up for it had her a month and you really helped me. I subscribed and can't wait to see more and learn more.
Thanks Jeremy! Glad you found the videos. Congrats on your new snake!
Your beard is bodacious!! New to the channel and loving all of the information!! Thank you 😊
Thanks Jenny! Welcome, glad you found the channel :-)
Hey! Future BugNPop here. I just wanted to let Past Future Bob know that you made it! The channel is well over 10K subscribers now. Congratulations!
😅 Aw, thanks!
Great informative video for beginner keepers Bob! I’m still slowing socializing Howl-luckily he’s normally not super nervous-so this is good refresher for me❤❤
Thanks Kieu! I'm sure Howl is doing well with you
How has this channel not passed 10k! People show Bob some love n sub already!
😄 thanks Ash!
For a split second before I read it I thought the thumbnail was yawning snakes and it was about how to get your snakes to sleep 🤦♀️ I think I need more sleep, or coffee. Great content as usual!
Well you're kind of right. Those are all pictures of my snakes yawning 😄
WONDERFUL BRO
Thank you!
I found ur videos based off the nice beard. Now I’m working on a dreamsicle project and am dearly in love with ball pythons
Aw that's awesome! Congrats on the dreamsicle project! Glad you found the videos ;-)
out of all the reptile channels, urs is one of my faves! so informative & fun🐍💚
Thank you so much!
Might have been a year old video, but it made me question if I was subscribed and I was not. NOW I AM
That's fantastic! I'm so glad you found her :-)
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you! More power to your channel...
Thank you for releasing all these amazing really informative videos I'm planning on getting a bp soon but I'm still doing research and these videos have helped a lot
I'm glad they're helping, thanks so much for the comment!
Thanks for all the educational tips... I'm getting my first snake Sunday ❤
Congrats!
That's my favorite part of owning a snake. Building a relationship with this creature that has no genetic imperative to have any relationship with anyone. It's rewarding. My carpet pythons are my favorite, whating them mellow out from baby to year one is AWESOME
Yes! Very rewarding
Just exactly what I had written to you about a week ago or so, Bob. ❤️👍🏼
New subscriber here! I just bought my first ball python, I´ve been reading a lot on their care and last night I set up the enclosure ready for him/her later today. This is very good information on learning how to read their body language and how to handle them. The python I picked up was the most "social" one, so I hope we will develop a good relationship
That's great, congrats on your new snake!
Congrats on going beyond 10k and reaching 50k subs 🎉
Thank you!
Your videos are informative and entertaining 😎👍🏻 you couldn’t ask for more 👊🏼
Thank you so much!
Love the channel. I'm a new ball python owner and I learn so much from you. Thanks!
Glad you're enjoying the channel, congrats on your new snake!
Is ron a pastel yellow belly? help please.
No he's not. Ron is spotnose enchi asphalt
Happy to subscribe.. thankyou so much for so much information and making it easy to apply to my snake which i have recently purchased because of watching your videos and seeing how beautiful and wonderful ball pythons are.. Thankyou so much
Aw that's fantastic. Congrats on your new snake!
I just had to subscribe because RUclips tricked me into thinking I was subscribed because I’ve been watching your videos. Thanks for reminding me! Awesome videos!
Thanks for subbing!
Lol "gross". I love this channel; it has everything. ❤
Dang man, 500% subscriber increase in about a year, congrats!

Good on you man, you are a very conscientious keeper.
Thank you!
Alrighty. Other than a few livestreams, I am all caught up. I shall now wander over to the Patreon page and get signed up. Was going to wait & do that as a Christmas present to myself, but I'm not very good at delayed gratification!!!!

@@AweNature1 you'll be getting that sticker pack! I'm an adult who likes those stickers too ;-)
Snake Discovery is another great one to support!
What does rapid tongue movement mean. Quick flicks and a lot of them
They just trying to get their bearings and figure out what's out there.
Sounds like he's a comfortable explorer!
@@GreenRoomPythons He's been an amazing first snake! 😊
Absolutely love your channel. You crack me up
Thank you so much!
Crazy how far and many subscribers you have gained in just under a year
Sick beard bro!!!
It's unlikely a snake would enjoy that, but we'll never know for sure, so it's possible.
I wish I could grow an awesome beard like yours. Beard game on point
Aw thanks Jordan!
Very helpful. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
I got my girl around a week ago she is now around 3-4 months old and exept for watering and feeding I haven`t bothered her so far. but do I just go in lift up the hide and pull her out? If I was a snake I would not really like this I think 😥
You can but it's better to wait until she's out.
Great content. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
I came for the snakes … but find myself staying for the sic beard! And of course Kent ‘s input 😂
I learnt some new things here thanks alot!!
Glad you liked it!
When you hit 10k are you going to teach us how you tamed your beard or at that for Patreon only?
Yes I will Cory!
I clicked on this because I got a pretty big tank with lots of places to climb and hide. My thing is I want to start handling him more but I don’t know if going in there and taking him out from his hide is a good idea. Naga only comes out at night so I don’t know how to approach her
Love the beard. I am not patient enough to grow it that long but I’d like to.
Thanks! I always just tell people to stop shaving and wait a while 😄
i bought a snake from a breeder and she handled fine no defense or anything.
How could I keep my snake warm if the power in my house goes out for a longer amount of time (in the winter)
A backup generator is always best, but in a pinch, water bottles with 90°-95° water will work
Love your videos :)!
Thank you!
I love your channel. Do you have Carpets?
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it! I love carpet pythons but don't have any at the moment. I have ball pythons, superdwarf retics and a blackhead python :-)
Hi Bob and everyone, I've been struggling to find a good hydrometer I have 3 different ones as of right now but they all read different percentages. I have one I paid a decent amount of money for a couple years ago that I had just for my house and it reads way lower than the other 2 I got off Amazon. And those 2 are off by a bit too and I don't know which one if right. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a good hydrometer??
Your hygrometer doesn't need to be as accurate as your temp gun or thermometer, but I've found SwitchBot to be the best brand. Govee is also good.
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you I will have to check those out
Hi sir, I have a question about mating my two ball python's.
How old should my ball python's be before I put my two ball python's together for them to make baby ball python's??
I have another question can u handle a ball too much to were u stress them out??
Thanks great video
Thank you
I got a snake he was nice at first but then i stopped handling as much bc i was trying to not handle too soon after feeding and during shedding or during the day...And now i think he's just scared now cuz it's been a while so when i tried picking him up, approaching from the side but he struck at me and bit. Now I'm scared that trying to pick him up is stressing him so much that he feels like he needs to strike. Going to try to sit by his cage more often and build up trust again. But its almost time for him to eat again.
Sick beard bro!
I have a pet wild garter snake would this work?
Im getting my first snake on sunday, and i could only get him a HUGE enclosure (150*70*80) is there anything like a too big place for him? I have 3 hides, lots of plants (not real) so he can hide easily from me. Should i just get a small box at first or can i put him in there right away? Thanks for your answer :)
Great video
Thanks Jeff!

can I handle them more than once a day?
It depends on how socialized your snake is. If it's a new snake, I'd stick with once a day until you get to know each other:-)
@@GreenRoomPythons it's been two weeks it gets tensed when I put my hands in but never had shown any aggression so far.
They'll do most of their growing in the first 3 to 4 years and then grow very slowly for the rest of their life. The inspector is about 5 years old.
I have my new pygmy python's enclosure on a shelf next to my bed. It's just over a month old and likes to sit against the side of the enclosure and look at everything.
That's great, pygmy pythons are cool!
The most amazing thing I learned was snakes come out the egg thinking that everything is out to get them, just like humans over time so maybe this can be used as a psychology tactic
Thank you for this. So much better advice than “just handle for 15 minutes twice a day.”
Glad you liked it!

It's not that crucial. They'll find their heat when they need it. I'd let him just do what he wants with it :-)

@@GreenRoomPythons As always you are appreciated! I just joined the Horde of Keepers! You've earned my support. Oh, I also brought home an adorable little Ball Python the other day too.
