I personally prefer the ball Python body/face over p much any other snake. They really to have such a unique “:3” face and mouth that’s almost cat or dog-like. Combine with their large eyes, and you get a snake that’s genuinely really cute, and a good snake to introduce to people who find snakes creepy or scary. They aren’t necessarily as “cool” looking as boas or bigger Python species, but their derpy, soft face is just so charming.
I prefer the look of colubrid kingsnakes like indigos and cobras, but after adopting a ball python a year ago and getting attached to that adorable face I could never get myself to pick a boa over one in looks alone
That's probably another reason why they are so popular, hognoses snake is another very popular snake with a very cute face. It's easier for people not that used to snakes to get used to them and not see them as threatening because they look cute.
I'm taking care of my moms 25+ years old boa constrictor, have a one year old python and a rosyboa. I love them all, but I think with ball pythons people can get bored if they got a lazy individuum. My rosy boa is tiny (she was a rescue), but she's so intelligent and curious! She has a huge enclousure but she's really active and utilizes every part of it. The big boas is a little old, she doesn't like to move to much anymore, but I love to watch her movements, she's so big but so elegant. My ball python is a little clown. When he's in a hide, he's so easily scared of every movement in front of his enclousure, but if he's roaming around in it, he's as curious as my rosy. I can't choose one or the other, the most important thing to me is the character of the animal
I have a ball python, 2 corns, and an MBK. My favorite thing about my ball python is her cute "puppydog" face. Her big round eyes and curvy head shape just look happier and friendlier than an angular boa face, which I think looks more stoic. But of course, that's totally just a personification of their looks!
Yes, agreed! I have a ball python and a Sonoran boa, both about to be 6 months old. Such differences noted and I love them both so much for their own ways. Next up for me, MBK.
I have a Rainbow Boa, Pueblan milk and DK/MBK hybrid. The DK/MBK is a little chaos noodle, he will literally launch himself into the air to grab his food, definitely the legendary MBK feeding response. The Rainbow Boa definitely eats like a Boa, but that's almost tame compared to king snake feeding response.
All I know is that I’m never betting against an anaconda. They’re mean! Fantastic video, fantastic channel. My daughter is really into snakes so I’m doing as much research as I can if/when we take the plunge into snake ownership. Your stuff has been so enlightening!
I love all snakes, and the constrictors are no exception. But I've always preferred boas. In college, I used to go into Pass Pets and handle their baby boas. At a frat party, one of the guys had a large boa, and I immediately went to spend time with her. Changed her water bowl and held her for a while. Such beautiful animals. I love their pointy faces and active disposition. Ball pythons are gorgeous, too. But it's the boa for me. I still haven't gotten my first snake. Yet. I'll probably try a corn snake first. Good beginner snake. Great video. See ya.
Boas are great. I also started with a corn snake and worked my way up. Honestly, if you can afford a large enclosure and good feeders you should just get the snake you see yourself enjoying. I didn't exactly neglect my corn, but I definitely looked at it as "not the snake I really want" when I had it. Especially because it wasn't particularly handleable. I would invite others to chime in, though, as my experience was subjective.
@@rob_ya_boy You are completely correct. Do research, find your dream species, and make it happen. You can always get something else later to compare, but start with what you want. Side topic, but I actually did that the last time I had to go car shopping. I read a statistic that only 10% of car buyers actually end up buying the car they wanted in the beginning. I thought that was silly and beat it by _only_ searching for the vehicle I decided was right for me. Nothing else was acceptable. Now I have it, and I tell people it's my forever car. Same with the snake species I chose (childrens python). Why get something other than what you actually want?

Turns out goldfish don't need to be provided with climbing apparatus, which was it's winning factor. I do need to figure out where to put it's water dish in that enclosure though, as I know they like to have a soak every now and then.

I work at a reptile shop though and we have so many beautiful ball pythons come through and they’re so well tempered that I just may have to get one of them too.

My rainbow boa is fantastic. Holding him in person is like holding some fae being. He is calm and inquisitive and always just a little bit on the move. I’ll be adding a ball python when the weather warms up a bit. Looking forward to her personality differences. One thing to ask when looking into keeping boa and pythons is to find out if the breeder keeps both and whether he or she has any trouble.
I keep both and have for awhile. I have very large and small Pythons and various Boas. They are all wonderful and I love my diverse snake family. Could never like one over the other. Each snake has his or her own personality and I treat each snake the way they request.
I kept my male adult ball python on one medium rat a month. It maintained his weight really well and he never went off food. He always seemed hungry when I fed him, whereas when I fed him every two weeks on small rats when he was younger, he would sometimes act like he wasn’t all that interested in food at every feeding. It’s interesting how ball pythons are so individual when it comes to their feeding habits.
Great video! I wish this was out when I was researching which snake I was going to get. It's how I found your channel. At the time, i didn't find too many comparison videos for the two. I ended up getting a boa, and I love him very much. I love your channel and watch every video. Keep up the great work❤
@@GreenRoomPythonsThank you! I really like them. I really hope you are taking a driving break and not replying to RUclips comments while you're driving....
Sadly no purchases in the future almost all of my animals have been rescues and surrenders. I have both species, a BI that is about 7 ft female that weighs 15 pounds and many normal ball pythons. These were all neglected at one point in life so I just wanted to agree with Bob to do your research. Both species are fantastic but, they are long lived.
Im about to get my first snake and im extremely excited im getting everything set up so when next months repile expo comes around ill be sure everything is set up and im looking between pythons and boas so this was the best video i could have found
I am glad you mentioned target training for snakes. I have done it with my hog island boa since he was a baby. I hang a specific signal paint and cut on cardboard. And hang it before feeding inside the tank at first. But it works so well now i can hang it on the glass. He does not strike at the symbol he starts looking for food slash waiting for it. It is also important to have a non feeding signal at first. So like a touch when are just coming in for handling or to maintain the tank. It can actually make a big difference later. Like when they latch onto to something other than food and are fully committed to eating it. My boa tryed to eat a fern once. He missed the tongs grabbed the fern and was actually trying to find away to swallow it. I touched behind his head and he instantly let go and looked to me for real food confused.
I currently have 2 lovely BPs and an antisocial corn-snake but I've wanted a boa for a long time now but I want one of the smaller/dwarf locality’s cause I’m not prepared for a larger sized snake quite yet.
Loving this video, I’m bios towards boas, absolutely love them, Great advice, spot on for anyone considering a snake for a pet. really enjoyed the video … subscribed to your channel straight after watching … all the best 😂👍👍👍
Loved this comparison video! I staryed watching your videos when I emded up with 2 rescue ball pythons my husband's cousin needed to rehome. His family was like "give them to Jess, she's a snake person." They're very different from my hognoses, but I love them.
I would love a boa care guide. I am planning on getting a rainbow boa within 6 months I'm taking my time and getting a complete setup first. I have an albino ball python, and a common corn snake right now. Trying to get them well established by setting up for a rainbow.
I would love a Boa care guide :). I have 4 BP's currently and I love them dearly. However I cam across Sunglow boa's and they've just stolen my heart lol. Not gunna lie, their size does intimidate me a little bit but a friend of mine who keeps then loves them dearly and highly recommends them. Maybe one day when I'm not only 6 months into keeping snakes ill take the plunge lol
the real deciding factor to me is just activity level, in my office a calm snake I can just put in my lap while I work is awesome but when I am not working I love watching them move around and explore especially when they climb
I'm drawn to the size of the boas, but there are so many normal ball pythons at my local reptile rescue that I know I'll end up adopting one soon. For now it's just colubrids for me. Just got a black milk snake that I'm ridiculously excited to watch grow into a 6ft solid black snake!
I have a question. I have a ball python. I'm a truck driver I lost my local job and might have to go back over the road. How would you recommend traveling with one in a semi
I've heard of people traveling with a ball python in a van full-time. I wouldn't recommend it though if you can avoid it. I think the constant shaking of the snakes home would cause it stress.
pretty off-topic for the video, but I've realized recently that snakes are probably one of the most ethical eaters in the world. They use constriction until their prey is unconscious and keeps going, or envenomation, and if the rodent is small enough, it neutralizes them in a matter of seconds. It's quite funny how the general public is more okay with how brutal and gruesome mammals eat
I'm looking into getting a Rosy Boa! I'm also curious on what your experience with them is like if any. Thank You for sharing your knowledge of these exquisite creatures! I'm so excited to enter the life of snake care!
Awesome video! No snake yet, but if I was to pick one, I would go for a dwarf locality boa (maybe a Tarahumara Mountain boa or Crawl Cay boa) so that it would be ball python-sized.
I'm totally obsessed with ball/royal pythons. For me they look beautiful, even cute! Not evil... where as the boas look more threatening and have an evil eye lol. But I'm relatively new to keeping snakes 🐍 ❤
All my snakes are corn snakes, well there's one rat-corn 😊Someday I want a rainbow boa though. Yes, I love your channel even though I have no pythons or plans to get one 😁
I got a rosy boa a couple of months ago. He's my first reptile, and he is beautiful! He's super curious and chill. I have heard that boas can bite when they think you're food, but he hasn't made any attempts to eat me. I would love to get a ball python one day so I can just hang out and watch TV with a snake.
While I don't have the room for either I'm more inclined towards a boa - as long as it's one of the dwarf varieties. A snake suddenly going off food for months is stressful for me. I've already experienced it with my spotted python, although that was when she was first adjusting to her new home. An interactive snake that eats every time you offer food what I prefer. Maybe I should just get a colubrid next...
Only have a single corn snake named Dennis right now but I’d like to get something different in the future when I have more room. Going on looks alone I prefer the sleeker looking boa personally but the size of the ball python is better for me.
There are dwarf localities of boa imperators that get no bigger than a ball python. Tarahumara mountain boas and Crawl Cay boas are a few that come to mind.
Hahaha! That Kent's Corner cracked me up. I find pythons and boas really interesting and have a rosy boa, but I really just want a second pituophis. Lately, I've watched a lot of blood python content, though. They are THICC.
I was trying to decide between a boa or a ball python. Ultimately decided on a boa. Something about their angular features and purposeful stare just captured me. I didn't want something too big though so I'm opting for a dwarf species (about four feet fully grown). This will be my second snake after starting with a Corn snake. Anyway, really enjoying your videos and this one was no exception.
I just got my first Ball Python. He has a bunch of stuff going on, too, when it comes to morphs. His name is Nagini he is not even 4 months old yet and is super docile. I have started target training him, and he seems so smart. Also, my daughter just got a corn snake, too. Love your channel. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. Blessed ✨️ Be
@GreenRoomPythons thank you, I watched most of your beginning videos on set up and ball pythons before getting him. All the information you shared was so helpful. Thank you.♡
I have only had pythons so far. I currently have 8 Ball Pythons and 6 Reticulated Pythons and I love both species equally (my gf had Burmese Pythons before we got any of the Balls or Retics)- the Balls are cute and cuddly and the Retics are so interactive and smart (And big!) Having said that, I have thought about a Boa for a while, and usually handle one or two while at Pet Kingdom (local San Diego reptile store) but what REALLY fascinates me the most for the past year or so are arboreal snakes, so I’m doing a lot of reading and watching videos in anticipation of a Green Tree Python or Emerald Tree Boa as my next snake. Leaning towards a Green Tree Python (likely an Aru or Sorong as they are said to be a bit more docile overall. Have you thought about a GTP? A Green Tree Python would be a perfect addition to Green Room Pythons! #GoGreen
I love green tree pythons. I haven't gotten into them because I'm out of town so often and I feel like those snakes need a little bit more daily checkups and care. They're really cool though!
I was just in Seattle and saw that snake. I cleaned out her cage and helped with a bit of a stuck shed, but otherwise the snake is doing very well and is on medium rats now :-) Next time I make it to Seattle I might do an update video
❤ the video and channel Bob! We have 3 BP’s , thinking about a hognose next. I need to do a little more research on the species first. Love our new scroll, now you don’t have to drag all the boards around😅
Ball Pythons are adorable, they almost seem like they keep baby faces their entire life. But my heart has been stolen by Boas. My Rosy Boa has been a dream to keep, she's curious, patient, and bamboozles me quite often. If I get another snake, I'll be looking out for a Dominican Red Mountain Boa!
I currently have a normal ball python : ) I love him but I do want more snakes when I have the proper housing for them : ) I want to go above and beyond for my animals so whatever I get next. but I do know I want a super dwarf retic and a carpet python at some point in my life : )
So I went to a pet store and got to meet a baby ball python and see a rainbow boa and he was very pretty I just don't know what snake to get and the size of enclosure and stuff?
Yes, I was at his facility for the grand opening a few months back and there's a video up on my channel about that. Clint is fantastic, I love his channel
We have one of each! Personally I like the activity and body type of boas, but love the larger variety of morphs that ball pythons have. Generally speaking the ball python is "my daughter's" (11yo) and she loves that her snake will just chill with her as she watches TV or plays on her tablet. The boa is "my son's" (7yo) and he likes how active his snake is, and we have a lot of fun setting up arboreal stuff in that enclosure. Really at the end of the day I take care of them, but include my kids in as much of their care as is age appropriate.
Being in Australia I can only own Australian native reptiles. I have and highly recommend black headed pythons. In my case it’s easy to handle, active an excellent feeder and peerdy
heheh yeah one of the multiple reasons I have Finnley the BP and not a Boa is because I am a delicate flower, and weaksauce Disabled gal. I can unwind Finnley, but I couldn't have a snake larger than him. I do target train Finnley because he is a maniac for his food. Someday I hope he understands that only his bar-spoon means food. Last night he booped it with his nose before being fed, which is what I want him to do to get food, so I think we're making progress.
I got a Rainbow Boa. He's my first constrictor, I also have a kingsnake and a milksnake. So to me the Boa feeding response is actually kinda tame compared to the King/milk, especially my kingsnake, last night he literally leapt off his basking branch to grab his dinner off the tongs, he will also strike anything that moves in his enclosure when he goes into food mode.
I totally agree! Boas are cooler, ball pythons are cuter
They are incredibly cute, pythons look almost cartoon like
I prefer the look of colubrid kingsnakes like indigos and cobras, but after adopting a ball python a year ago and getting attached to that adorable face I could never get myself to pick a boa over one in looks alone
That's probably another reason why they are so popular, hognoses snake is another very popular snake with a very cute face. It's easier for people not that used to snakes to get used to them and not see them as threatening because they look cute.
But who could love the ball python face over the ugly derpy face of the sand boa
Boa = cool shape snek
Ball python = fren shape snek
Both = gud snek❤

Keep up the great work❤
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy the channel!
Aww. Handsome Dan! He's the best mascot. I just got two new ball pythons, but I'd still love to have a boa someday.
Your two new ones are amazing!
@@GreenRoomPythonsThank you! I really like them. I really hope you are taking a driving break and not replying to RUclips comments while you're driving....
@@amybentley1291 I am at EddieWorld right now, not driving ;-)
Very down to earth and accurate information. Thank you!
Thank you!
I started with a corn snake because it was a good fit for my family, but I love learning more about other awesome snakes!
I’ve been gone for a hot minute but yay I’ve been waiting for this video!
Could u do a video going in depth about IBD boas carry that can be deadly to ur pythons? Not many know about it.
Wow, great tip about the communicable disease thing between boas and BPs! Good to know!
Fun vid Bob. I liked the comparison.
Thanks Mom!
Give us the boa care guide! As a man named Dan and a fellow boa keeper I am a huge fan of Handsome Dan.
You got it Dan!
BOA CARE GUIDE!!!!!!! ❤
Iam not getting anything as iam scared of Snakes but respect the species and learning all i can about them 😊
Handsome Dan sure lives up to his name, what a beautie, regards from Manchester England 🇬🇧
Thank you!
Have a BP, but this channel actually helped push be toward some SD retics! Meeting Garrett in Utah may have been another factor haha.
I love both my all time dream snakes are a viper boa and a blood python which I’m finally getting a blood python 😁😁😁
The Nicaraguan Dwarf Boa is a good option as they don't get much longer than a Ball Python. My 2.5 year old Nic is about four foot. Cheers.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the sub!
Loved this comparison video! I staryed watching your videos when I emded up with 2 rescue ball pythons my husband's cousin needed to rehome. His family was like "give them to Jess, she's a snake person." They're very different from my hognoses, but I love them.
Love your videos! Very informative!
I wanna get a cute lil snake, but there's a whole lotta boxes that need to be ticked first.
Could you possibly do a video about blood pythons.
Blood pythons are really cool, I don't have any though. I've never kept them
I would love a boa care guide.
@GreenRoomPythons I wouldn't bring her if I had choice but I'll be gone for like 2 to 3 weeks so can't leave her
pretty off-topic for the video, but I've realized recently that snakes are probably one of the most ethical eaters in the world.
Loved it! I've been looking at other pythons and boas and I'm sticking with ball python for me. ❤
Love the way my little Solomon Island Ground Boa grips my hand. May get a rosy next.
My most recent acquisition is a lovely 3 yr old dumerils boa! I love him
i laughed harder than i should've at Kent's Corner ♥ thanks for making these amazing videos!
Glad you like them!
That's a cute name for a snake 🐍 😊
Please make a boa care guide I just got my boa Rocco about a month ago and I need advice
Can I ask what the morph is of the bp at 14:15? Its absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks! She is pastel axanthic, het pied
Currently have a hognose and a retic. Looking to get a second hog this year to have a breeding pair in three years and an MBK
I wonder if demaura is a Volta giant Bp
I don't think so, she's just on the larger side. Her head would be a lot bigger if she was Volta
@GreenRoomPythons ahh true, either way she's a beauty! Maybe a descendant from a wild one way back. shes definitely a big girl! Love ur vids!
@@brianburkard6101 Thanks so much!
Blessed ✨️ Be
Congrats on the new snake!
I’m getting my first snake, Ball Python later this month. I’ve been watching you, among others, to get educated. Also, nice beard, dude.
Thank you!
Can you please do an update video on the ball python your little nephew got? :)
I was just in Seattle and saw that snake. I cleaned out her cage and helped with a bit of a stuck shed, but otherwise the snake is doing very well and is on medium rats now :-)
Next time I make it to Seattle I might do an update video
I have both 🤷🏻♀️♥️🐍♥️ love seeing your channel growing! Been here since around 3k!
Thanks so much for being here for so long!
❤ the video and channel Bob! We have 3 BP’s , thinking about a hognose next. I need to do a little more research on the species first. Love our new scroll, now you don’t have to drag all the boards around😅
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it! Hognose are cool, that's a good choice :-)
I've been looking at getting a corn snake, since we're reptile keeping n00bs. But I admit that I do love ball pythons!
I have a ball python and i want a boa imperator but im too scared of when it becomes an adult.
I currently have a normal ball python : ) I love him but I do want more snakes when I have the proper housing for them : ) I want to go above and beyond for my animals so whatever I get next. but I do know I want a super dwarf retic and a carpet python at some point in my life : )
Got 2 rosy boss last week. They’re itty bitty noodles right now.. I absolutely love my BP’s
I only clicked on this because his luscious beard
Come for the beard, stay for the really fun videos and community ❤
I also am impressed with his beard !
So I went to a pet store and got to meet a baby ball python and see a rainbow boa and he was very pretty I just don't know what snake to get and the size of enclosure and stuff?
Do you and clint ever collab? His is another channel I've found to be very informative on my new snake journey
Yes, I was at his facility for the grand opening a few months back and there's a video up on my channel about that. Clint is fantastic, I love his channel
I love both and have both. 3 balls and a BI ❤️
Thanks for the videos Bob!
That's great that your kids are getting some experience and the snakes are getting appropriate care. Very cool!
Being in Australia I can only own Australian native reptiles. I have and highly recommend black headed pythons. In my case it’s easy to handle, active an excellent feeder and peerdy
I love my black-headed python! Very cool species
heheh yeah one of the multiple reasons I have Finnley the BP and not a Boa is because I am a delicate flower, and weaksauce Disabled gal.
Also I think a boa card guide would be a good idea! Why not!?
