I would love to see a boa care guide, not that I have plans on getting one just love learning about different species of snakes. As for preferences of body type, I would say the ball python has a more “cute” look than the boa due to the rounder shape and I prefer that look. Probably why I have a corn snake and a ball python they are just so cute!
Next snake is going to be a false water cobra. Already have a goldenchild retic, ball python, And a Mexican black king snake. Love all your videos. Also maybe tell Kent to braid his beard. I heard it helps keep snakes away. Lol
I saw my name! Yay! 🎉 I liked this video a lot. I had been thinking a rainbow boa might be for me... This is good information though and I don't think I could handle a boa. I think ball pythons are the largest I should have! You rock Bob!
Great to see the return of Kent's Corner! And lovely to see Handsome Dan too. My wife gave me a "Handsome Dan is not a python" T-shirt for Christmas, which I happened to be wearing when watching the video.😁 As for which species to keep, while I love the idea of a nice big boa, we wouldn't be able to give him or her a nice big enclosure in our small English house, so we will stick with royal pythons and hognoses for now. 🐍🐛
I keep both and have for awhile. I have very large and small Pythons and various Boas. They are all wonderful and I love my diverse snake family. Could never like one over the other. Each snake has his or her own personality and I treat each snake the way they request.
My rainbow boa is fantastic. Holding him in person is like holding some fae being. He is calm and inquisitive and always just a little bit on the move. I’ll be adding a ball python when the weather warms up a bit. Looking forward to her personality differences. One thing to ask when looking into keeping boa and pythons is to find out if the breeder keeps both and whether he or she has any trouble.
Great video! I wish this was out when I was researching which snake I was going to get. It's how I found your channel. At the time, i didn't find too many comparison videos for the two. Im about to get my first snake and im extremely excited im getting everything set up so when next months repile expo comes around ill be sure everything is set up and im looking between pythons and boas so this was the best video i could have found
I am glad you mentioned target training for snakes. I have done it with my hog island boa since he was a baby. I hang a specific signal paint and cut on cardboard. And hang it before feeding inside the tank at first. But it works so well now i can hang it on the glass. He does not strike at the symbol he starts looking for food slash waiting for it. It is also important to have a non feeding signal at first. So like a touch when are just coming in for handling or to maintain the tank. It can actually make a big difference later. Like when they latch onto to something other than food and are fully committed to eating it. My boa tryed to eat a fern once. He missed the tongs grabbed the fern and was actually trying to find away to swallow it. I touched behind his head and he instantly let go and looked to me for real food confused.
I kept my male adult ball python on one medium rat a month. It maintained his weight really well and he never went off food. He always seemed hungry when I fed him, whereas when I fed him every two weeks on small rats when he was younger, he would sometimes act like he wasn’t all that interested in food at every feeding. It’s interesting how ball pythons are so individual when it comes to their feeding habits.
I'm totally obsessed with ball/royal pythons. For me they look beautiful, even cute! Not evil... where as the boas look more threatening and have an evil eye lol. But I'm relatively new to keeping snakes 🐍 ❤
heheh yeah one of the multiple reasons I have Finnley the BP and not a Boa is because I am a delicate flower, and weaksauce Disabled gal. I can unwind Finnley, but I couldn't have a snake larger than him. I do target train Finnley because he is a maniac for his food. Someday I hope he understands that only his bar-spoon means food. Last night he booped it with his nose before being fed, which is what I want him to do to get food, so I think we're making progress.
Loved this comparison video! I staryed watching your videos when I emded up with 2 rescue ball pythons my husband's cousin needed to rehome. His family was like "give them to Jess, she's a snake person." They're very different from my hognoses, but I love them.
Sadly no purchases in the future almost all of my animals have been rescues and surrenders. I have both species, a BI that is about 7 ft female that weighs 15 pounds and many normal ball pythons. These were all neglected at one point in life so I just wanted to agree with Bob to do your research. Both species are fantastic but, they are long lived.
I would love to get a Boa but I’m sure if I get anything bigger than a ball python my husband would move out lol. It took me years to convince him BP are very docile. Thanks to all reptile RUclipsrs for the videos and info 👍🏽
Ball Pythons are adorable, they almost seem like they keep baby faces their entire life. But my heart has been stolen by Boas. My Rosy Boa has been a dream to keep, she's curious, patient, and bamboozles me quite often. If I get another snake, I'll be looking out for a Dominican Red Mountain Boa!
I got a rosy boa a couple of months ago. He's my first reptile, and he is beautiful! He's super curious and chill. I have heard that boas can bite when they think you're food, but he hasn't made any attempts to eat me. I would love to get a ball python one day so I can just hang out and watch TV with a snake.
I'm drawn to the size of the boas, but there are so many normal ball pythons at my local reptile rescue that I know I'll end up adopting one soon. For now it's just colubrids for me. Just got a black milk snake that I'm ridiculously excited to watch grow into a 6ft solid black snake!
I would love a Boa care guide :). I have 4 BP's currently and I love them dearly. However I cam across Sunglow boa's and they've just stolen my heart lol. Not gunna lie, their size does intimidate me a little bit but a friend of mine who keeps then loves them dearly and highly recommends them. Maybe one day when I'm not only 6 months into keeping snakes ill take the plunge lol
Awesome video! No snake yet, but if I was to pick one, I would go for a dwarf locality boa (maybe a Tarahumara Mountain boa or Crawl Cay boa) so that it would be ball python-sized.
While I don't have the room for either I'm more inclined towards a boa - as long as it's one of the dwarf varieties. A snake suddenly going off food for months is stressful for me. I've already experienced it with my spotted python, although that was when she was first adjusting to her new home. An interactive snake that eats every time you offer food what I prefer. Maybe I should just get a colubrid next...
I have only had pythons so far. I currently have 8 Ball Pythons and 6 Reticulated Pythons and I love both species equally (my gf had Burmese Pythons before we got any of the Balls or Retics)- the Balls are cute and cuddly and the Retics are so interactive and smart (And big!) Having said that, I have thought about a Boa for a while, and usually handle one or two while at Pet Kingdom (local San Diego reptile store) but what REALLY fascinates me the most for the past year or so are arboreal snakes, so I’m doing a lot of reading and watching videos in anticipation of a Green Tree Python or Emerald Tree Boa as my next snake. Leaning towards a Green Tree Python (likely an Aru or Sorong as they are said to be a bit more docile overall. Have you thought about a GTP? A Green Tree Python would be a perfect addition to Green Room Pythons! #GoGreen
I love green tree pythons. I haven't gotten into them because I'm out of town so often and I feel like those snakes need a little bit more daily checkups and care. They're really cool though!
the real deciding factor to me is just activity level, in my office a calm snake I can just put in my lap while I work is awesome but when I am not working I love watching them move around and explore especially when they climb
All my snakes are corn snakes, well there's one rat-corn 😊Someday I want a rainbow boa though. Yes, I love your channel even though I have no pythons or plans to get one 😁
I currently have a normal ball python : ) I love him but I do want more snakes when I have the proper housing for them : ) I want to go above and beyond for my animals so whatever I get next. but I do know I want a super dwarf retic and a carpet python at some point in my life : )
Hahaha! That Kent's Corner cracked me up. I find pythons and boas really interesting and have a rosy boa, but I really just want a second pituophis. Lately, I've watched a lot of blood python content, though. They are THICC.
Only have a single corn snake named Dennis right now but I’d like to get something different in the future when I have more room. Going on looks alone I prefer the sleeker looking boa personally but the size of the ball python is better for me.
There are dwarf localities of boa imperators that get no bigger than a ball python. Tarahumara mountain boas and Crawl Cay boas are a few that come to mind.
Loving this video, I’m bios towards boas, absolutely love them, Great advice, spot on for anyone considering a snake for a pet. really enjoyed the video … subscribed to your channel straight after watching … all the best 😂👍👍👍
Being in Australia I can only own Australian native reptiles. I have and highly recommend black headed pythons. In my case it’s easy to handle, active an excellent feeder and peerdy
We have one of each! Personally I like the activity and body type of boas, but love the larger variety of morphs that ball pythons have. Generally speaking the ball python is "my daughter's" (11yo) and she loves that her snake will just chill with her as she watches TV or plays on her tablet. The boa is "my son's" (7yo) and he likes how active his snake is, and we have a lot of fun setting up arboreal stuff in that enclosure. Really at the end of the day I take care of them, but include my kids in as much of their care as is age appropriate.
I'm looking into getting a Rosy Boa! I'm also curious on what your experience with them is like if any. Thank You for sharing your knowledge of these exquisite creatures! I'm so excited to enter the life of snake care!
I would 100% say beginners should start with a ball python! But boas are amazing pets once you’ve got some experience with a smaller but still impressive snake. Boa behavior and body language is just different, and they could potentially be dangerous considering how strong they are and that they can strike in basically any direction lol. But a boa would never intentionally hurt you, unless they were scared or mistake you for food! I just highly recommend people don’t hold a boa around your neck like you would a python because they are much stronger. My uncle was actually killed by his boa. Feeding response gone wrong. I definitely learned from his mistake. Freak of nature type thing, but just reminds you that you still have to have caution with the larger constrictors, even if they’re puppy dog tame. Read the body language, use your tools when needed, and you’ll be fine.
i think if you’ve done enough research starting with a boa is fine especially if it’s a baby cause they grow so slow it’ll be years before they could pose any sort of danger (if fed properly) by that time you’ll definitely know your snake well enough to read its body language. some people don’t want ball pythons and that’s fine no one should get an animal just for practice. they could also gain experience with someone else’s snake if they could find someone who’d help them or through a local exotic shop. lots of ways to gain experience without getting an animal you don’t really want
I have a question. I have a ball python. I'm a truck driver I lost my local job and might have to go back over the road. How would you recommend traveling with one in a semi
I've heard of people traveling with a ball python in a van full-time. I wouldn't recommend it though if you can avoid it. I think the constant shaking of the snakes home would cause it stress.
I just got my first Ball Python. He has a bunch of stuff going on, too, when it comes to morphs. His name is Nagini he is not even 4 months old yet and is super docile. I have started target training him, and he seems so smart. Also, my daughter just got a corn snake, too. Love your channel. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. Blessed ✨️ Be
@GreenRoomPythons thank you, I watched most of your beginning videos on set up and ball pythons before getting him. All the information you shared was so helpful. Thank you.♡
One of the few things I'm looking forward to is that my next snake I'm getting should be very good about eating, and it IS a boa. The not as fun part is gonna be all the setup and very sharp attention I'm going to have to pay for at least the next 2 years before i can relax a little on monitoring its tank. I'm a couple months away from having a new enclosure ordered from vision cages which is gonna run me just under 900$, but I've also got a misting system, thermostat, very large water bowls and a couple hides plus sticks and the like for a multitude of climbing. Its gonna be around 2 grand give or take a couple hundred, but I'm soon to be seeking out a very young Brazilian Rainbow Boa. I very much want a baby female, because i want a bigger snake, and because i prefer working with my snakes by hand starting as early as possible so they're perfectly tame as adults. I have 3 ball pythons, and i know a rainbow boa is going to be a lot more work, but I'm super excited to get cracking and raising a rainbow boa. They're incredibly stunning animals. But they're definitely not beginner snakes. You could probably get an adult rainbow boa as a beginning snake if you have done your research since they're more hardy as adults, but I'm keenly aware that they're extremely prone to dehydration so you have to stay on top of that all of the time. But as long as the effort is worth it to you, it can be an incredibly fun experience. I just love working with snakes I guess. 😆
I currently have 2 lovely BPs and an antisocial corn-snake but I've wanted a boa for a long time now but I want one of the smaller/dwarf locality’s cause I’m not prepared for a larger sized snake quite yet.
I would love a boa care guide. I am planning on getting a rainbow boa within 6 months I'm taking my time and getting a complete setup first. I have an albino ball python, and a common corn snake right now. Trying to get them well established by setting up for a rainbow.
I'm a python gal. The boas I have are itty bitty kenyan sand boas, they are really cool too! I also reeeaally enjoy my garter snakes! Talk about moving around a lot while handling😂
I have a Tarahumara boa and a ball python. The best of both worlds! I love having both. I really hope Tarahumaras get bred more. In my opinion they are the easiest beginner snake ever. Same size to slightly smaller than a BP, never refuse food, humidity and temps are very easy. The only negative is he was a hissy baby but I've yet to be bitten and he chilled out quickly.
I'm crazy about the way ball pythons are shaped. It's just the most adorable shapeliness possible 😍 But Solomon Island boas in particular really have something special going on with how exceptionally angular their heads are, and viper boas have cute little lump bodies like ball pythons, but with that cool angular head too.. So tempting 😭 But my next snake (I have my first now! A ball python~!) will either be a hognose or a Japanese rat snake. There's just something about rat snakes that is so delightful, and those Kunashir Blues are to die for ❤ Admittedly, I'd also love to have a sand boa and a carpet python too, but we'll see 😅
I have two Boas, one is Central American the other is a Colombian and then I have one Ball Python. Krieg (my Central) is a calm and inquisitive little boa, always up for handling. Alita (the Colombian) is a more reserved sit back and watch type girl but does get in the spirit when I handle her. She was refusing food for a few months when I first got her, but has since then been very excited for feeding. Krieg was ready for food the moment I offered. He has missed one feeding and that was because he was going into shed and I didn't realize. Hera is my Ball and she exudes pet rock energy, although sometimes at night I catch her trying gymnastics on her branches. She is friendly, curious and calm to the people I get to hold her. She is a disposal for food, always ready to eat and had only rejected once, again my fault. She is going on two years, Krieg is six months and Alita is roughly four months.
Im getting something a little more unique in the general sense, a blood python! I've been lucky enough to be gifted a yearling matrix that is a sibling to my 007 girl I already have. As a python guy I think you should check them out as despite their wrongful reputation they are some very intelligent and sweet snakes when cared for properly ^^
I have both a female BP and a male BC, and both I enjoy for different reasons. My BP girl is content with lounging and I love the rounded off puppy-esque heads BP have. My boa is an explorer who when you take him out the enclosure will immediately go to his favorite spot to rest (hint: it is on top of your head). I think the more angular heads, size, and squared bodies may make them seem more intimidating to some people, but it is hard for me to be afraid when my boy has bow tie patterns ( hes a Jungle Hypo) and a tiny mustache on his face 😂
Boa = cool shape snek
Ball python = fren shape snek
Both = gud snek❤

I do need to figure out where to put it's water dish in that enclosure though, as I know they like to have a soak every now and then.
😅😉
Depending on size, you may want to start with pinky mice as feeders, then move up in size. Also, make sure it has a hide also. Just a suggestion!!! 😂
Pet rock sounds more your speed don't forget a leash.
Im getting a Brazilian Rainbow Boa next week! Set up the enclosure for the last couple of weeks and these Green Room videos have been so helpful.
you’ve taught me sooo much!! i really appreciate your channel. I got my first ball python a month ago & i have watched every video on your channel to ensure she’s happy, feels safe, warm enough, & i know her movements now as well. Shes doing awesome, going into her first shed with me now! she’s a baby still, only being 3 months old or so. ❤❤❤ named her Lily-Loo.
Congrats on the new snake!
The kent's corner section always makes my day xD
Both are awesome, but I do love boas more. Their look, their behavior, and their climbing ability.
Just come across your RUclips, glad so. I’m loving it ❤😊
Thank you so much, welcome!
Next snake is going to be a false water cobra. Already have a goldenchild retic, ball python, And a Mexican black king snake. Love all your videos. Also maybe tell Kent to braid his beard. I heard it helps keep snakes away. Lol
False water cobras are one of my favorites!
i’d love a false water cobra one day!
I have an MBK! He's pretty boss! My next will probably be a Spotted python.
@@GreenRoomPythons so does this mean that we're going to see false water Cobra soon on the show?
I saw my name! Yay! 🎉 I liked this video a lot. I had been thinking a rainbow boa might be for me... This is good information though and I don't think I could handle a boa. I think ball pythons are the largest I should have! You rock Bob!
Thanks, glad you liked this one!
I’m picking up a Tarahumara dwarf boa (Boa sigma) in Pomona this weekend! Can’t wait 😍❤️
I only clicked on this because his luscious beard
Come for the beard, stay for the really fun videos and community ❤
I also am impressed with his beard !
That was a great one.. Highly entertaining, engaging, funny and informative. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks a million for the advice about not getting a ball python with a boa constrictor!!! I was nearly deciding on getting both of them too!!!
Great to see the return of Kent's Corner! And lovely to see Handsome Dan too. My wife gave me a "Handsome Dan is not a python" T-shirt for Christmas, which I happened to be wearing when watching the video.😁
As for which species to keep, while I love the idea of a nice big boa, we wouldn't be able to give him or her a nice big enclosure in our small English house, so we will stick with royal pythons and hognoses for now. 🐍🐛
That's a great gift! ;-)
I ended up getting a boa, and I love him very much. I love your channel and watch every video. Keep up the great work❤
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy the channel!
Wow, great tip about the communicable disease thing between boas and BPs! Good to know!
Iam not getting anything as iam scared of Snakes but respect the species and learning all i can about them 😊
I started with a corn snake because it was a good fit for my family, but I love learning more about other awesome snakes!
Aww. Handsome Dan! He's the best mascot. I just got two new ball pythons, but I'd still love to have a boa someday.
Your two new ones are amazing!
@@GreenRoomPythonsThank you! I really like them. I really hope you are taking a driving break and not replying to RUclips comments while you're driving....
@@amybentley1291 I am at EddieWorld right now, not driving ;-)
Very down to earth and accurate information. Thank you!
Thank you!
BOA CARE GUIDE!!!!!!! ❤
Give us the boa care guide! As a man named Dan and a fellow boa keeper I am a huge fan of Handsome Dan.
You got it Dan!
The Nicaraguan Dwarf Boa is a good option as they don't get much longer than a Ball Python. My 2.5 year old Nic is about four foot. Cheers.
I'm getting an Albino het clown ball python, banana yellow. And a baby dumerils boa, plus an African black house snake, too excited!!! 😂
I love both my all time dream snakes are a viper boa and a blood python which I’m finally getting a blood python 😁😁😁
Handsome Dan sure lives up to his name, what a beautie, regards from Manchester England 🇬🇧
Thank you!
Love the way my little Solomon Island Ground Boa grips my hand. May get a rosy next.
Have a BP, but this channel actually helped push be toward some SD retics! Meeting Garrett in Utah may have been another factor haha.
Fun vid Bob. I liked the comparison.
Thanks Mom!
Awesome video! No snake yet, but if I was to pick one, I would go for a dwarf locality boa (maybe a Tarahumara Mountain boa or Crawl Cay boa) so that it would be ball python-sized.
Love your videos! Very informative!
I wanna get a cute lil snake, but there's a whole lotta boxes that need to be ticked first.
I’ve been gone for a hot minute but yay I’ve been waiting for this video!
That's a cute name for a snake 🐍 😊
Loving this video, I’m bios towards boas, absolutely love them, Great advice, spot on for anyone considering a snake for a pet. really enjoyed the video … subscribed to your channel straight after watching … all the best 😂👍👍👍
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the sub!
Being in Australia I can only own Australian native reptiles. I have and highly recommend black headed pythons. In my case it’s easy to handle, active an excellent feeder and peerdy
I love my black-headed python! Very cool species
My most recent acquisition is a lovely 3 yr old dumerils boa! I love him
We have one of each!
That's great that your kids are getting some experience and the snakes are getting appropriate care. Very cool!
I've been looking at getting a corn snake, since we're reptile keeping n00bs. But I admit that I do love ball pythons!
Loved it! I've been looking at other pythons and boas and I'm sticking with ball python for me. ❤
@GreenRoomPythons I wouldn't bring her if I had choice but I'll be gone for like 2 to 3 weeks so can't leave her
The next snake I really want is a boa. I currently have a 2 year old BP and a 21 year old corn snake!
Blessed ✨️ Be
Congrats on the new snake!
i laughed harder than i should've at Kent's Corner ♥ thanks for making these amazing videos!
Glad you like them!
Could u do a video going in depth about IBD boas carry that can be deadly to ur pythons? Not many know about it.
I love both and have both. 3 balls and a BI ❤️
Thanks for the videos Bob!
Got 2 rosy boss last week. They’re itty bitty noodles right now.. I absolutely love my BP’s
I’m getting my first snake, Ball Python later this month. I’ve been watching you, among others, to get educated. Also, nice beard, dude.
Thank you!
Also I think a boa card guide would be a good idea! Why not!?
This reinforces that I really want a hog island boa as my next pet snake❤
Well I would have to say I would pick python cuz I have 5 of them and I absolutely love them lol😂
There's just something about rat snakes that is so delightful, and those Kunashir Blues are to die for ❤ Admittedly, I'd also love to have a sand boa and a carpet python too, but we'll see 😅
Still trying to get Max to let me have a Boa 🤣 Handsome Dan is so lovely! I really enjoy videos with him 💖
He's a cool snake, I like him a lot!
I love blood pythons, those are great species to keep!
