    That story about the kid breaking someone’s display is crazy. More parents should get kid leashes for events like this lol

    • @kerseykrewzoo
      @kerseykrewzoo Год назад +27

      If someone's kid broke my display full of animals, everyone at the show would know it happened because there's no way in Hell that adult is going anywhere until the damages were tallied and I either had money in hand or their information as well as a statement of intent to reimburse me signed by both of us and at least 2 witnesses.
      How is it okay to just scoop up your kid and bounce after something like that happens without an apology given or the parent checking with the vendor to make sure the animals are alright at the very least. It's people like that who are causing their children to become self-entitled asshats who throw a fit when they don't get their way immediately and have miniscule attention spans due to spending so much time on the internet, watching short 30 second videos and copying other people's idiotic ideas that are endangering and even killing kids.
      People friggin' suck a lot of the time anymore. That's one of the reasons I've not left my home in 8+ months.

    100% you nailed how to get sales, and it's not by pushing sales. It's by being authentic and being energetic. I work at a board game shop and do a lot of conventions. Obviously we want sales (we're a small business we need them) but if I'm myself, if I've got good energy they just happen! And yes, don't answer "I'm tired" we're all humans but rephrasing that into "It's been a day but I'm still trucking!" is the best compromise I've found. When I was at Tinley it was rough to be spurned at a few of the booths, either by cell phone use/ignore or they were tired and took it out on me. Like, I get it, we all get tired, but you lose people who were interested in what you had. And auction snakes DO NOT COUNT, those are unexpected and supporting good causes. So it's charity not a purchase xD

    The advice about not telling people you’re tired…. this is excellent advice. Not just at a reptile expo, either. Anytime you are at work, volunteering or any situation when you want to make a good impression, don’t complain or seem less happy to be there. Always be positive and engaging, even if you don’t feel it. Really glad you included that!

    Suggestions for things to say instead of "I'm tired":
    "Keeping busy!"
    "Loving the amount of people here today"
    "Getting ready for a snack/lunch/dinner"
    "It's been a lot but I feel great about (insert thing)"
    "Going strong!"
    "I'm being kept on my toes, there's a lot of traffic through here which is great!"
    "Just wishing I could sneak a few looks at other booths, there's so much cool stuff to see"
    "Getting a lot of people-watching done, I love seeing the purchases they make"
    "Definitely going to sleep well tonight, it's hard work but so much fun!"

    I hear what you’re saying about communicating back and forth with a breeder then not purchasing a snake. BUT, sometimes, the more you get to know the breeder, the less you may want to purchase. These days, customer service hardly exists, and I’ve communicated with some breeders on Morph Market that are not enthusiastic about selling their snakes. Nowadays, some even mock customers on social media by saying that they aren’t going to respond immediately to emails just because the customer is eagerly waiting for a response. That’s just poor customer service. Breeders forget how to run a business sometimes. Bottom line, I don’t feel obligated to purchase just because I’ve had a lengthy conversation…that’s just the social component of business. Anyway, I was happy to see you walk away with a snake 🐍 at the end! 😄 Good video, good points made 👍🏼

      you should know what you are purchasing and what the animal is eat ect...The customer service is getting a healthy animal that is sex properly and identify has best has possible, that is ship properly for the weather the good service! Now the only thing i see you could ask is what the parent morphs where is it not already listed THAT IT ! THE REST IS YOUR OWN RESPONSABILITY STOP FEELING ENTLITLE TO PEOPLE TIME .If your not doing project with that breeder you are wasting their time !

      This is why i significantly prefer (pet level price/genes especially) snake listings with the snakes personalities and quirks. I get being annoyed with having lengthy convos with no sales, so making it less work for yourself by being upfront means people filter themselves out if the wording is a turn off from buying.
      Doing a job that requires selling 20-30 year living commitments does require lengthy convos that often end with "no" regardless tho.

      I went to an expo a few weeks ago. I was looking for a spe ific kind of snake (which I didn't find.) One vendor in particular, when I explained what I was looking for and why, spent quite a bit of time educating some of my misconceptions and ideas even though I am pretty sure he knew I wasn't buying. Also I did not ask to hold any of his s akes and he did not offer
      Later that same day, I did end up buying a snake (not the species I came in for.) His sale technique.....he offered a snake that fulfilled most of my requirements, (which I had already soften a little due to guy at other table,) and then handed it to me. Sold!!!!

    • @suran396
      @suran396 Год назад

      I should add: Before we bought it, I told the guy that my son and I had narrowed down our decision to 3 possibilities and that we would have to go to lunch and discuss. Which we did. We had a long leisurely lunch, did some research on our 3 choices, discussed what we each felt were pros and cons, and made a decision.
      Did we go back to the other two vendors and tell them we had nixed their choices? No, we did not. Should we have? I don't think so. I told all 3 that we had a few others on our list up front.

I mean if I'm going there to spend 500 bucks on a pet I may have for 30 years, and I know 10 vendors will be selling them, your going to want to check them all out. Sometimes your golden right off the bat, but other times there are particular traits your after, however, yes I believe you should also respect each vendor and how much time you have them spend with just you. I've bought 3 out of the five ball pythons I won at reptile expos. There's so may color morphs shown at them and different prices. What I like at reptile expos is how friendly and knowledgeable the breeders are and what color morphs they have.

I felt horrible because I had claimed him as soon as he was born & then had to back out, which I’m sure, made it tough for Bob. I’m so glad he went to your home and we’ll be able to hear about him. Please be careful mixing chips with sphagnum moss, especially if the chips have salt and vinegar on them. egg and chips is a good meal, but you might want to swap out the moss for mushy peas, it's much more palatable. I can't comment on it's effectiveness as a substrate, but my assumption would be that it's a little too greasy.

    Reptile shows are great to see a variety of animals and supplies. I don't ask to hold an animal unless I'm considering buying it. Unmanaged kids can be a problem for vendors and shoppers. I see vendors with lots of animals and no way to warm them. Venues have the AC up high which can't be good for alot of the animals. You can see it in the animals, they are lethargic and sleepy. I want an animal that is alert. I bought a baby BCI at the last show I went to. I wasn't sure if she was excited to meet me or just wanted to get warm. It turned out, she liked interacting with people. She stayed happy once I got her home in her set up.

    I don’t sell reptiles, but I do a lot of market shows - I have to say, chairs are a lifesaver. It’s so so so exhausting standing for 2 days 7+ hours. And setting up, talking to strangers (and rude people). I have health issues, but even if I didn’t - I’m not sure I could deal without a chair.
    (The phone thing is mixed.. I need it to decompress sometimes, people can be a lot! plus there are some slow dips in a day (which are hard going). I always put it down if someone comes in or walks past looking & say a gentle hi.)
    If you see a vendor sat down - they may be in pain, tired or have a health condition, even if they look fine! I really hope people don’t think someone sat down doesn’t care or is lazy. You don’t know that person. That kinda irked me- sorry man!
