    Not to be mean or anything but I bet if you looked at his headlights they already were halogens...they get that old dim yellowish look when they are old (had a few cars and trucks with them like that) trade em out for LED's and never look back...Its sooo much better...Just remember to aim them correctly...its very annoying to everyone else on the road when you just slap em on and go with no adjustments damn near blinding (no point in putting them on if you just blind the guy coming at you and you get into a head on collision...kinda defeats the whole purpose then doesn't it)

    • @bills6093
      @bills6093 Год назад +1

      MCI 5C did not come with halogens as far as I can tell. Just the old "Sealed Beam" headlamps. Sealed beams were required on motor vehicles by law until 1983. MFGs could not use anything else until that law was removed. Then they could finally design headlight housings that fit the flow of the vehicle's body, and used halogen replaceable bulbs. That's when we began to see the composite housings specific to each vehicle. Generally, after 1983, when they made a body style change, they got rid of the sealed beams.

    • @rongray8416
      @rongray8416 Год назад

      @@bills6093 Never meant to imply those were the original headlights as we are talking from the 80's to now thats near 40 years a lot can happen to light from damage to average burn out. If those were the originals damn they got some good mileage out of them. Anyhoo not really a big deal I've driven with sealed beams halogens mostly, even HID on my latest car. I've always figured upgrade the lights if the old ones are not cutting it anymore...My 2k Jeep Tj will be getting the full LED treatment soon as its lights are starting to look dull🙂

    Atleast they have a known problems list! 🤣
    Edit: Yes learn to use your gearing! And jakes if you have them. Down hill/down mountain roads yes you need to do this. In a manual you down shift a gear and let the engine do the breaking work, in a auto this is why you have that 1/2/3 gear avaliable. A big bus (or big rig) use your jake and/or lower gear. 👍

    That 155 temp is really too low. Does it have radiator flaps on it?
    It takes a minimum of 140 deg water temp for the aids that create in the combustion chamber to not cause pitting on the liners. That's where some of the low power is coming from.

      Yeah they are rare. Company I worked for had four that they bought new in 80 and they drove nice. These were 45 pax with no restrooms and 6V71 automatics, not the most powerfulbut adequatefor flat lands. You could also get the 8V71 automatic or the 8V71 4-speed manual. Another company I knew had some for touring and they were 8V71 4-speeds with 38 nice reclining seats and a restroom. Nice little bus.

    I am surprised that a complex heavy duty machine like this MCI relies on one, albeit heavy duty very long belt, to drive two blowers for the cooling system. Can't believe that is robust and reliable. Even some Rolls Royce cars ran a double belt system for some engine driven equipment for redundancy.

    Question, @9:25 shouldn't that long drive belt have an idler pulley to keep it from flapping. Because it looks like it might snap or wear faster. Plus it would limit vibration.

    • @RustySax1949
      @RustySax1949 Год назад +1

      @Arturo Garcia - If the system is still stock, there is an air cylinder that tensions the belt once the coach's air system reaches 80 psi, IIRC. Pulls it nice and snug, no idler needed. MCI built over 10,000 buses with this system - it works.
