The Defense of Jisr Al Doreaa - Dream 1

- Опубликовано: 8 май 2013
- This is the first of six videos depicting a U.S. Army Lieutenant dreaming about upcoming COIN operations in Iraq, 2008. In the first dream, he makes several key mistakes that lead to mission failure. When he awakens, he recalls his mistakes, and applies those lessons when he falls asleep and dreams about same mission. Videos 2-5 chronicle subsequent dreams of the same mission as the LT makes and corrects different mistakes. This series of videos is based on the book, "The Defense Of Jisr Al Doreaa," which was written in the style of Swinton's "The Defense of Duffer's Drift."

Please never take this down, I've been looking for it again for some time.
Fast minded leadership can easily lead to mistakes, failures and mishaps.
But I also love how each dream, he gets more and more smarter.
As it is once said.
Do something right once, so you do not have to retake that same challenge again.
"Highly Trained Cav Scouts" I died.
Let's hope so.
He slept in a dream. That’s dope
But have you ever slept in a dream…on weed?
This type of content is amazing I’m subbed don’t stop these stories are amazing
Great as always.
Could you provide us with a more reconnaissance centered scenario/video.
the mayor was trying to warn him.. wow
I dont believe my scout PSG would've let the LT completely run the show like that and not establish security on all sides
That’s the point of the video lol
Well, predictable outcome they were perfect targets for mortars. I'm actually surprised the bridge didn't blow up just as the vehicles were crossing the river. A good "not to do" Video
The Defense of Duffers Drift, updated ! Great teaching tool!
“I was anxious to get into a fight.” Where was his senior NCO? New officers need babysitters.
what is this arma1
Interesting. The two civilians were trying to warn the officer of the incoming attack.
no men, they was send it to make inteligence: how many soldiers, amored cars, etc
That I Noticed. And Man’d More Scouts.
You guys are true warriors. Good luck boys
But They Were Seen That Day. Before That. They Were Just Looking Around.
There Was No Warning.
This series is awesome
Didn't really plan a defense, most likely lines of enemy advance, fix positions, ops for early warning, target reference points and code words to describe different sectors under contact
Dude explains calmly “ CALM DOWN MAN”
american officers seem to be trained to do things by the book. in sandhurst (british) the selective process is more about intuitive and adaptive thinking.
+elyes rezgui yeah well we are still the best military in the world
+LocustHD ..We have the best Military in the World*. That's only because of our Tech. We don't train our Basic Soldiers in the Army long enough. Brits do it better.
+AK's RULE!! Uuuh just take a look at Japan.
Name Please lol! This is video version of “The Defense of Duffer’s Drift”, a British army training tool based on the second Boer War. A bit ironic!
@@locust25VI That's why you win all tour wars lol.
These are....insane. For their depth, their reality, their usefulness.
But this first one is.....this guy's captain committed negligent homicide.
Given where we end up by 6, the idea that the captain let him just waltz off base with the platoon basics alone is nothing less than 1st degree manslaughter, bare minimum.
Is there a similar story that deals with the attack rather than defense? All the iterations seem to deal with defending a fixed location.
No interpreter." Know your enemy and know yourself and you will be victorious in 100 battles." Sun tzu. Spades is not good recon. These men should be shamed to be 19D. Cause if you ain't Cav, you ain't sh**! Scouts out. I like the Duffers drift modernization and relation to the past Iraqi conflict. A perfect lesson for Jr. Leaders of tomorrow. Thank you.
I know right sun zu was a military genius.
It’s “If you aren’t Infantry, you aren’t shit!” I don’t think it’s pliable, please cease and desist. 11B
@@richardrichardhaleysguitar8810 he was a genius and a very early warrior, who should be respected. However he also contradicted himself often in “The Art of War”. I often read things like “never follow your retreating enemies” (trap), then read “always track your enemy swiftly after a battle so they can’t regroup.” War is very chaotic and confusing, it’s hard to put it on paper in black and white. The infantry handbooks do a good job, not some Cavalry crap. Lol. Edit: I actually read The Art of War in Khost province Afghanistan in ‘09.
3:15 - Red Flag.
3:28- Red Flag.
4:20- I hope that backyard wasn't too exposed to contact from the other side of the river. If so, fortification should've been prioritized over napping from packing your bags & a long drive... That would be lazy...
4:35- Since he was busy taking in the scenery while daydreaming of glory & epic battles, he failed to leverage that time to adequately plan the mission, & now he is walking around wondering what he should do next. In this case, a premade (or memorized) checklist of recommended steps according to defensive field
manuals would be fundamentally helpful if you're at your wit's end. This commander acknowledges the vast amount of doctrine that he's been trained on but shrugs it all off saying "this is a new kind of war".
4:50- ARROGANCE = Much higher chance of you being KIA. Failed to Empathize with the political environment. Underestimated local access to weapons .
4:55 - Sends 4 dudes split into 2 trucks to sit out there & watch the road while everyone else continues to rest (from the long treacherous journey...). Just asking for RPG ambush.
5:40- Uncultured american swine mentality.
6:37 - Lack of training & creative ways to break language barriers. For fuck's sake they could speak with crayon sketches! How the hell you gonna "show that village who's in charge" when you can't even communicate on a rudimentary level? to top it off, he rudely dismisses the local. Disrespect..
7:10- "Sir we wish to be soft targets for snipers & mortars... REQUEST APPROVED"
Then sure enough everyone got rekt...
6:08 that’s how it feels when they start talking to you 😭
Listening to the narrator it’s no wonder we lost this war
Reminds me of Duffer's Drift...
is the rank of the commander here who is also the narrator is capt or 1lt. or 2d lt.?
Most likely a 1lt or 2lt, because captains don't lead platoons.
Al Jahra That’s That. Blocks
Think about me?
*hard stare* "Take a shot, tough guy."
Yikes.
2-5 Scouts.
But There Was Close To 15 Scouts.
Ramadi is Another
In the words of Pat Tillman during the invasion of iraq, "This war is so fucking illegal."
Or Hit.
2013 there were woman and children in VBS, in 2021 there are neither woman nor children in Arma 3...
Mukubarat 11
I said Agave then.
He's not a people person.
I imagine it isn't necessary to have any communication ability in re the local population? After all what could they know?
lol cav
Rule 1 of writing: don't make it 'just a dream'
It is a reference to "Defence of duffers drift"
Who would take on a bunch of Americans? Literally anyone in the world.. lol
Throw out this doctrine now, it's useless.
Hahaha oh army when will you learn? Racism and apaches don't win wars, intelligence and cobras win wars!
