  • This product contains the second of six videos depicting a U.S. Army Lieutenant dreaming about upcoming COIN operations in Iraq, 2008. In the first dream, he makes several key mistakes that lead to mission failure. When he awakens, he recalls his mistakes, and applies those lessons when he falls asleep and dreams about same mission. Videos 2-5 chronicle subsequent dreams of the same mission as the LT makes and corrects different mistakes. This series of videos is based on the book, "The Defense Of Jisr Al Doreaa," which was written in the style of Swinton's "The Defense of Duffer's Drift."

    I like this series.
It honestly evaluates what horrible outcomes war can have on both the soldier and civilian, if tactics are not properly adapted.
Best of all, it doesn’t white wash anything. Simply showing how bad war can get. After all, war is brutal. But despite that, measures must be taken to protect innocent life.
    Bravo to the creators.

Should have sent out some ops , reconnaissance patrol after the contact to locate enemy firing positions, as well as sniper screens to conceal positions more effectively

Our Lts are usually smarter than this but it is true that 19-24 year old leaders do make mistakes in the face of "glory"

Traditionally soldiers from every nation have had the same mentality in combat. You take care of your own. Everybody else becomes a threat. That’s understandable, but it is counter productive in a peace keeping scenario. The officer here is not being immature. He is acting like a soldier traditionally has acted. If our forces are trained to be peacekeepers, they will be ineffective in a regular shooting war. The officer in this scenario was trained in conventional warfare, and was not prepared for a peacekeeping mission. But what will happen if our military focuses on peacekeeping, and a conventional war breaks out? I am sure that the US Army is becoming very worried about that question right now!

Its just training, they are scenarios of what not to do and how to improve. This has nothing to do with pitying the soldiers

No, quite the opposite. You're supposed to see that what he did was horrible and the product of poor preparation and mentality. It's a training video.
