People mispronouncing words is usually because they've read it and have a larger vocabulary than most people use in regular speech. I'll never get upset at anyone mispronouncing anything.

Odd to hear that Hans Zimmer didn't care for his own score. To me that's the one thing nobody can deny about this film since the music fits so well in all areas, from the build up to the most tense moments. Not to mention the legendary final scene with Cole and Harry racing to Victory Lane. Pure perfection.

This has and always will be my absolute favorite movie. I was around six when I watched it on TV. That was back in 1999. I then received a recording on a VHS tape. I cherished the heck out of that. Never thought the picture could get any better. Then I found it as an actual VHS, again, blown away by the quality. Several years went by and I came across the DVD for around $5! Instantly bought, and my goodness was that gorgeous. Fast forward to 2008, I got the Blu-Ray for a present one day. With a massive TV and surround sound, I put it in my PS3. The sheer spectacle of what was in front of me literally made me cry. A movie I literally grew up with was finally on the best disc format (shy from 4k blu ray which I HOPE AND PRAY IS SOON). This is such an underrated movie, and I'm elated to see someone giving it the praise it deserves! It's not perfect, but it's not trying to be anyway. It knows what it is, and hoooooly crud, is it brilliant. I'm so glad you included some of the sound bites. The dialogue is incredible

German Kid here... me too... one day my dad told me he is going to record a cool movie on tape for me in the evening - next afternoon I was watching Days of Thunder and was infected. Tried desperately ways to watch it in germany on the tv, when I was 5 or 6 years old, in the sunday evening when tv coverage was very late for germany and my parents want to watch of course movies, later I tried desperately to get Nascar (1) from Papyrus try to run on our (even in win 95 times) "potato" pc... But some of my childhood dreams came true, just 20-25 years later in iRacing. Unfortunenatly, cars and racing have changed a lot.

In 1994 when it first opened, I got to go to KI for the first time... And 6-year-old me ONLY reached the 48" height requirement because i stood on my tip toes and my mom hadn't cut my hair in several weeks.
Was my favorite ride in the park until it was repurposed for something else and the DoT name was then rebranded to a GoKart experience in the park which stood until Cedar Fair bought the park from Paramount and so on.

When I first got my drivers license in high school.it was an aerodynamic 1972 Barracuda,I drive the tire off it,but I used to live right by the highway 6 lanes, there was a trucks stop right by my house so I was alway coming up on trucks that were slowing down so one day I got the idea to start a little at a time trying to draft them and eventually ever car on the road to...the trucks worked the best when I got good at it I started figuring out the side draft seeing how far up the side I would be able to go and how close I would have to stay and when and where I could still get a push ahead off the side...I got so good at it truck drivers started to not like me much I knew exactly when to pull away to get the maximum side draft push I got so good at it would actually rattle the doors on the truck, blowing his doors off,is where that expression comes..from I'd see the drivers look down at there door like what the freak...then I be looking right at them, and my yellow cuda would pop up along side and then I pull away from them back into my lane and the door would go back to normal,I d see there face like huh...I had know idea it was shaken the doors of a tracter trailer so bad but I was gauging how to pull away and maintain that aero draft push so to speed away there was a little swerve move that worked steady handed but I just laughed this is really working, first time I did it right following I got a boost from 55 to 80mph it was like I got hit from behind it worked so good driving in broken air and vacuum left by the front vehicle...
Never thought I could use that to drive for real...

Those 1:64 scale diecast DOT cars from Hardee's I remember them all to well. Me and my older brother we were able to get the City car, Hardee's car, and the Mellow Yellow car but for the life of us we could never get the Superflo car or Rowdy's Exxon car in a happy meal. It drove my dad batshit that everytime we were offered a happy meal it had to come from Hardee's back in 1990. My uncle a cross country truck driver for a living told my dad unbeknownst to us at the time he said to my dad hey, give me a few dollars and I can get those cars on the road for the boys. My dad said no, but both the Superflo and the Exxon DOT cars appeared in our Christmas stockings that year. The truck driving uncle was our moms oldest brother so I know she pulled him to the side and made him get those cars. Still to this day I give praise to my mom and uncle for coming through. I still have those cars in my display case to this day! But being 8 and 10 year old kids at the time we had short attention spans. My only regret about the whole deal is I wish I would've been a little more excited and grateful that Christmas morning. I lost my uncle who came through for us a few years later to a heart attack.

2:36 I'm glad you included that clip. Its the only main gripe I have about the film. Never seen a stock car blast out magnesium rockets when they crash lol.

They had the Days of Thunder "ride" at Paramount's Carowinds, Charlotte, NC, too. Rode it several times. Not bad, as far as those motion simulation rides go.

Yeah it's basically Top Gun but Nascar but that's why I love the movie, I love the soundtrack especially during the ending

Well done. I remember that simulator ride (and the Kyle Petty intro) at Kings Dominion in Virginia as well (when Paramount owned it) and riding it at least a couple dozens times throughout the day. My dad said that I had my "race face" from start to finish each time.

Great job on the research here! A few things I hadn't heard before. Especially the behind the scene stuff. Also was a good refresher on the different line of diecast. I always thought the Matchbox version were best then as their bodies were most accurate around that time. Racing Champions noses were way off in 1990... And the Nintendo game was possibly the most ridiculous racing game I ever played. Maybe worse than the Bill Elliott game... By the way, I too was still nine years old in the summer of 1990 when I drug my mom to the movie!
    Again. Great job here, Brock.

its funny to hear the announcers during the 89 season and early 90 season talk about the movie cars being in the race and actually see them racing with everyone else

The Racing Champions castings were based off Buick bodies actually. Found one of the cars at a yard sale and kick myself for not buying it.

Man I remember the days of thunder ride. They milked it all the way even into the 1992 Winston cup season. When i was 12 and I was at my first nascar race at Michigan with my dad, the motion ride movie simulator was there. It was an enclosed race trailer with seats that project scenes from the movie like you were actually racing. It was awesome and amped up my hype for the actual race to begin when I got out!

My favorite part of this movie is "Go out and hit the pace car"
    "The pace car"
    "Yes the pace car"
    "Why"
"You hit every other God damn thing on the track, I'm trying to make you perfect."

Agree you gotta step back to some classics to see a good movie anymore. I just watched Days of Thunder last night and this video pops up in my recommendations lol quit stalking me internet! Great movie though, the soundtrack with sound of the V8s still gives me the chills and I've seen this movie enough times to quote it start to finish. It's too bad Nascar is falling off, hopefully it comes back.
