- MORDER/SAURON aka THE EVIL OF THE RING THEME, has two names and is assigned to two categories: Mordor and The One Ring. The theme represents "the Ring's "character... (and its) effect on the world." (Doug Adams, CR--FOTR liner notes, page 29) and "the most villainous inclinations of the Ring and for Mordor itself." (Doug Adams, CR--FOTR liner notes, page 9)
Since this music has been identified as Sauron's Theme from the inception of the site, I will continue to use that as the primary name.
THE THREAT OF MORDOR , a theme for Mordor, is a danger motif used alone or as an ostinato under other music.
The Threat of Mordor is blending with the rhythm of the Isengard theme to produce the Witch King of Angmar / Orcs of Mordor theme. Additionally, if one overlooks that first low note, the rhythm structure is the same as the Mordor Skip Beat. In fact, one iteration is identified in the AS-ROTK as being 'somewhere between an inverted Threat of Mordor and the Mordor Skip Beat.'
The Descending Third Motif, a theme for Middle-earth in the subcategory of the Ring Quest, signals "impending doom." Like the Mordor Skip-beat and the Threat of Mordor, it is sometimes used as an ostinato, sometimes alone. It is a sequence of descending thirds that bears some resemblance to the Dies Irae.
The Skip Beat Ostinato, an accompaniment for Mordor, is a three note pattern that is "used for more kinetic moments". It has multiple variations:
each note pitched differently - ABC
each note pitched the same - AAA - used "during a number of chase scenes" (Doug Adams, CR-FOTR liner notes, page 30)
first note low, next two the same and higher - ABB
two pitches used - ABA - used in the "most intense and nerve-wracking moments" (Doug Adams, CR-FOTR liner notes, page 30)
The rhythm structure is very similar to the Threat of Mordor'. In fact, one iteration is identified in the AS-ROTK as being 'somewhere between an inverted Threat of Mordor and the Mordor Skip Beat.' (Doug Adams, AS-ROTK)
THE FIVE BEAT PATTERN is a clanking, clamoring motif that represents "the industrial might of Middle-earth." (Howard Shore per Doug Adams, CR-FOTR liner notes, page 20). In the FOTR and TTT, it was assigned to the category of Isengard and the Orcs and can be heard alone to represent Isengard, underlying the Isengard theme, or alone to represent forces of Mordor (other than Isengard). In the ROTK with the dimming of Isengard's power, the Five Beat Pattern was realigned to Mordor.
THE RINGWRAITHS' THEME, a theme for Mordor, is often defined by singing taken from the source text, The Revelation of the Ringwraiths. This theme uses a strong, staccato rhythm on the first and second beat of the measure. It is used exclusively with the Ringwraiths except once, in the prologue.
Three Mordor Accompaniments, the Descending Third Theme, Threat of Mordor, and the Mordor Skip-beat, are often used as ostinatos to the Ringwraiths' Theme.
MOUNT DOOM a theme for Mordor, is described in the liner notes of the CR-ROTK as a 'blistering pair of chords' drawn from the opening harmonies of the Pity of Gollum. (Doug Adams, CR--ROTK liner notes, page 32). But the musical notation shown as an example indicates that the theme is probably more than just those two chords. All iterations are sung by a pounding choir singing either up/down chords or driving triplets. (It's interesting to note that the opening three notes of the Pity of Gollum also are played as triplets.) All iterations are also paired with the Mordor Outline Figure.
The Mordor Outline Figure, , a theme for Middle-earth in the subcategory of the Ring Quest, is basically an up-down martial ostinato played on tympani. The rhythm changes with iterations. Sometimes it's just up-down-up-down with even beats. Sometimes is more up-down-down-up with the Morse Code rhythm of dash-dot-dot-dash.

Christopher Tolkien owns the rights to The Silmarillion, and is very, *very* unlikely to sell them to him due to how he hates the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies, considering them action films for people the age of 15-25

From 2:51 onwards you will start to hear the music that plays when the orc armies and their troll soldiers besiege a city defended by the men...especially when they use their giant siege engines and trebuchets to take over the massive white city of kings...and the loud, steady drumbeats and the ominously deep brass notes play a mix of the themes of Saruman and the Orcs along with a rendering of the Minas Tirith theme... and the chorals play out the nazgul theme as the nine men ride upon their fell steeds to take out the men from the ramparts of Gondor one by one...
Generally though from this point onwards you will hear an entirety of the first part of the siege of Gondor, right before Théoden and Éomer show up with a huge army of the Rohirrim and try to turn the tide against the Orcs..

What Chapter did Saruman say this and to whom? It sounds like you're referring to the Balrog in Moria.
Even so, Gandalf the White reports to Aragorn and the Company after his defeat of the Balrog that when he descended into the depths of Middle-Earth and saw things that gnawed at the Earth, and that these things were creatures that even Sauron wasn't aware of.
Of course the Barlog in Moria was a darker, and a much deeper evil, but I still think Tolkien was going to explain this, and Saruman said this to Gandalf in The Fellowship Of The Ring, also, If you are right, then what about the Mines and tunnels UNDER Moria, and what about the rest of the whole Southern and eastern continents, and what about the People of Frodowaith! All of these loose ends! I do not know about you but I am really considering sending a letter to Christoper Tolkien to ask him to write another few books to explain these loose ends...
And as you said, Gandalf saw creatures that Sauron wasn't aware of, then that gives me a greater urge to contact Christoper Tolkien.

There are some places in Iceland that look a bit like Mordor. Minus the giant, scary volcano and Barad-Dur, of course.
Such a dark and menacing soundtrack. Nothing came close to this in the Hobbit. The composer didn't put half the effort into the music of the Hobbit that he did into LOTR.
To be honest, Unexpected Journey had a great main theme. It was the catchy and fun "Fellowship" theme for the Hobbit..
For some reason this theme was totally forgotten about in Desolation and Five Armies.
Other than that, there was zero dark themes in The Hobbit. Even Smaug's theme wasn't as menacing as this.
The Hobbit is the calm before the storm. Smaug's the mini-boss before the main boss.

Ummm actually Sauron's theme is in the hobbit...several times. And is in my opinion some of the best versions of his theme not to mention some of the best musical content in the hobbit trilogy. That and Gundabad's theme are bascially the best stuff in the hobbit trilogy for me.

But this here isn't Sauron's theme. It's a compilation of all the evil themes from LOTR pretty much.
I would tend not to agree that it sounded flat, its pretty much the best stuff there. Thrain, The Guardian's of the Three, The Hill of Sorcery, and thats just a few sound, amazing. I think part of the issue is the space they recorded in. The first hobbit films ost sounds much more like lotr's because it was the same orchestra in the same space. The other two hobbit films however are not in the same space or the same orchestra. However the NZ Philharmonic who did the hobbit films also did some of fellowship, so I don't think it was them. I would tend to agree with you that the new trilogy doesn't sound quite as good. The other problem in my mind was Howard not conducting the last two and wasn't in New Zealand to see the sets and such. Conrad Pope did fine, but that's just it. He did fine.
How did Howard Shore create such a masterpiece, I am speechless.

8:18 the part where Sam finds Frodo keeping the ring in the middle of Mount Doom and a fight ensues with Gollum, who takes the ring for himself and jumps straight into the lava with it, causing the whole mountain to erupt as well as the whole of Mordor to collapse ...for it was Gollum who seemed to accomplish the quest for the hobbits, not the other way around. that’s why the character plays a major role in the Lord of the Rings, especially even more so on the climatic finale of the Return of the King...
