His story is so tragic because if he wouldn't have experimented with heroin and died he most likely would have become a great song writer. He died basically right as he started realizing his musical potential. He wasn't even a huge junkie he just got really unlucky. Thats what everyone says that knew him at least.

@damselcausingdistress 81 As one who knew Andy, played with him, and have been on both sides of the D/A treatment spectrum -- I can say what you wrote is the absolute accurate truth. "A Stark" -- not all addicts look alike, and for that matter, Andy had youth on his side. And If he hadn't died, or had lived longer and it wasn't halted -- he may very well have looked more like the "stereotypical user".

If for one second we could undo the fabric of time and erase what happened and had he have lived, Andy would Have gone on to become a star in his own right. When you think about it - the thing he was creating, introducing, was love rock something that wasn't noted by anyone else. You'd have gotten your pearl jams, nivarna and everything else which came after m. love bone, through andy's mindset, flamboyance, Charisma and characteristics he would have spawned different types of artists plus for those who like 'grunge" it would have still been around because the media would have still pushed it since they labeled it and you'd have Andy as a standalone artist since he'd have probably broken away from that up and coming mainstream, could you really See Andy in plain clothes singing arguably drab songs? in my opinion It would have been more colourful than it was.

If Andy had lived through the 90's he would have seen...
    - A lot of his friends(and probably himself) have a lot of success musically
    - His favorite team the Cowboys win 3 superbowls and become the team of the 90's
    - Advances in video games particularly 1998 when Madden introduced "Franchise Mode" allowing you to play multiple seasons and keep stats so the WFL would be easier to keep track of.

First of all, Layne Staley was an artist, Bwill 140! He created plenty. In addition to writing the music and lyrics to AIC's songs, he wrote poetry, played the drums and guitar, and I've seen some excellent drawings that he has done. Not to take anything away from Jerry, but AIC was/is the sum of it's parts.

IMHO it was his death that really helped catapult grunge. It sucks to think about it that way but his death brought a very somber, dark vibe to that scene which was currently in the beginning stages of really popping. Grunge would be much different today if he were still alive. Not that I know anything, I'm from California and only had exposure through MTV back then..but man, what I do know is the world sure could use some more love rock from Andy these days!

While this is a great video, it is hard to see him being a COWBOYS fan of all things. Andrew Wood was raised in the Seattle area (Bainbridge Island to be exact) & the Seahawks had some good, solid competitive teams in the 1980s. The 'Hawks had some great players in the 80s like Jacob Green, Joe Nash, Dave Kreig, Kenny Easley, Curt Warner, & obviously Steve Largent. I know that the Cowboys have a huge national fanbase (especially back then) but come on, show the home team some love.
