Should have stayed in Australia because he has done so much damage to this country.
👏👏👏✌
He killed his own constituents, to spread anti-EU propaganda.
They're getting revenge for sending all the convicts. See also: Rupert Murdoch & Lynton Crosby.
Shut-up. He's British.
We don’t want him.
So this chap has basically been wrong about everything at the time when it mattered and still tries to justify it. Glad to see the back of him.
Yep and his dad helped boiler making become a well paid job
I was thinking the same. Sounded decent but admiting to some of those stances and decisions......well, they haven't aged well have they? Perhaps he should have left his own decision making influence to just his constituency. The UK is no better with him widening his scope. Denys the bleeding obvious. Bye-bye, Tory!
Not wrong. But consistent in his views. We need more politicians who show the courage of their convictions. He also won 4 elections. So clearly not all that 'wrong.'
Did this guy seriously say 'politicians shouldn't be changing the definition of things' weeks after he voted to change the definittion of a 'safe country'.
Guy thinks it was right not to rewrite the definition of marriage. But was happy to vote against reality to call Rwanda safe against all logic. Tory div in a nutshell. Not a coherent thought or principle to be found.
You misunderstood. He is saying society has re-defined what marriage means. I don't think society has a view on Rwanda. Nobody cares aside those middle class lefties who own their own property
Brexit will never work and Truss, articulate? do me a favour... 😮
He seems to live on a different planet.
Articulate "with her mind"... What? You can say that about my dog.
He’s one of them however you look at it. Australia has enough of them already, check on Tony Abbott who was/is wrong on almost everything.
"she is articulate with her mind"... lol. what an articulate fellar.
Ha came to make the same comment but you beat me to it!
I think he's confusing her with the lettuce.
He still sounds pretty bigoted on gay marriage to me, and regarding Brexit what a disaster that turned out to be.
gay marriage is anti semitic anti christian secular extremism. it shouldnt even exist.
He voted remain in the referendum. Check your facts 1st.
yes, sounds like he still opposes gay marriage
Tory Rot indeed. Utter drivel from start to finish.
So many people have absolute horror stories about this guy in Calderdale. Very glad he won’t be standing again. He is holding the area back and has for the entire time he has been elected.
Oh of course the practical guarantee of losing his seat has nothing to do with him stepping down. How could we even suggest it?
Yeah, it's just a coincidence that they are all stepping down at the same time.
Strange he’s pulled the pin before he gets the bullet. They can’t even tell the truth as they toddle off to comfortable retirement or a fixed job. His fixed in super strong concrete views means he still thinks the nasty party can continue to wreck the UK by winning the next election.
"It's a 7-day a week job". Yet so many MPs, Tory, mainly, seem to have other (and some multiple) jobs!
"its not for the government to change definitions" yeah, hows that Rwanda definition act comong along
The idea that we should take lectures on the morality of marriage, from a Conservative MP, is ridiculous.
A self entitled moraliser comments. How great it must be to be so virtuous.
Politicians didn't "change the definition of marriage," they just recognized that the definition had already changed. As it has done many times throughout history.
He should have stuck with his dads ideas
Just the other day I said to my son, "Lad, don't grow up to be a c***"
@@TheLucanicLordI have 3 young nephews I will pass on that great advice.
Dull, unimaginative and frequently wrong, so a pretty accurate representation of his party.
He'll go back to Australia after the election, and not lose a wink of sleep over the damage he's done to this country.
Isn’t it SUCH a coincidence that so many Tories are deciding NOW that this will be their last term? Also, how nice that he’s able to retire at 61 and spend time with his family? It’s a pity he didn’t think of his peers that are slightly older but don’t get that privilege. They too would love to spend time with their family but still need to work for a further six years.
Few of them will have a choice.
@@michaeladkins6 true yet they have done very little to avoid their fate. Apart from gerrymander and bring in idiotic ID rules.
The Brexit delusion continues, whatever it is. You think Britain is broken, you haven't seen anything yet.
Leave
You're boring. Move on. Everyone supported a Brexit referendum. It happened, move on.

@@kincaidwolf5184 we wish we could move on, but the decision will continue to cost us.
Leaving a sinking ship 😂
Remember its all Jeremy Corbyn's fault 😂
Definitely 😊
Anyone else feel the irony in his statement 'I am in my sixties now so time for a break'. Shame his party cld not let the common folks with this benefit, but no, we have to work on tul we r 67 etc. Awesome! Once again different rules for different station in society.
You cant say that black is white, but you can legislate Rwamda as a safe country.
It’s a shame that there’s no challenge of ideas like this. I guess it’s still an interesting interview
Translation of his pontifications on marriage:-"I want my bigotry encoded into law."
Although I did notice, he didn't use the moral objection, he tried to make it about procreation. I'm straight and resolutely childless. Does that mean all my relationships have not been valid? I also know some very happy lgbtq+ families.
Families do not all come in one flavour, there's a vast panorama of them, all unique.
Hard to take someone seriously who deny that the polls have any influence on their decision to have some 'me time'!......would be interesting to do this interview when connected to a lie detector.
I would have liked to see Matt challenge the contradiction between legislating something as different - isn't that exactly what the Tory government is doing with declaring Rwanda safe, just like Whittaker thought legalising gay marriage was?
Matt is pro-Tory. Whatever narrative he is conveying, we need to take it with a pinch of salt. His take on the local elections on Friday was laughable. He was stating Labour were in trouble and Tories had done reasonably ok.
That crossed my mind as well. It would have made for an interesting question. After all, marriage is whatever we decree it to be, whereas the safety of a country is factually based. The parallel was so obvious I wondered if Whittaker put it out there as a feed line. I was a little surprised Chorley didn't pick it up.
@@sullafelix9681Even if the Tories won only one council seat, Matt would say that was a stunning victory. He’s leaving the sinking ship.
All the grifters are leaving now that they have stripped the corpse bare and filled the rivers with poo increased the price of food and choked off inward investment. No shame either. Amazing.
Evil takes many forms, Conservatism is one of them.
Deluded.
Who is this gonk and why would anyone listen to a word he says? We have a talent-free zone in all corners of our political system.
It takes a lot of effort to be that delusional.
Never ever trust a tory. Scorpion and snakes are far more trustworthy.
Nine minutes in but I'm done this man is a total clown.
He disagreed with "changing the definition of marriage" because politicians shouldn't change a definition but he agrees with politicians changing the definition of Rwanda to be safe for all eternity?
He and his ilk took a huge gamble with a Brexit vote. He lost. We all lost.
So Whittaker is a class traitor?
He’s leaving because the writing’s on the wall simple as that. Funny how all these Tory MPs (I believe 64 at last count) are all leaving politics after the next GE. Such principled people.
The Human Hand Grenade intelligent? Now he's your usual run of the mill lying Tory.
The damage is done and now they all run with their kleptocracy money on number accounts in tax havens 🤮
All these privatisations ITS A TOTAL SHAME.
ENOUGH GE ..utter delusional
so will this guy be involved in a grindr scandal in 4-5 days?
If his basis for marriage is the ‘procreation of children’ does that mean women who can’t have children for medical reasons shouldn’t be allowed to marry? I somehow doubt it? Double standards ?
Menopause = divorce, presumably. These people never think things through.
I do think this is a great series.
But it always amuses me that in All of these interviews the person in question is a perfect example of the ONE hard working, principled, honest, compassionate MP who never compromised their values. Given the public perception of the Tory party you must be doing a LOT of work to never interview any of the other kind.... Unless of course this is people writing their own epitaph and rose-coloured ink.
Typical politician doesn’t want to take responsibility for unequivocally failed implementation of Brexit, failed policies, instead we hear I’ve had a lovely time being a whip, good riddance, let’s get MP’s who take self responsibility when their policy decisions fail.
Matt is such a lightweight, and useless interviewer
The worse tory is a working class one. What are the brexit benifits he mentioned? He stumped there...
A fish rots from the head down.
'incredibly bright'....'articulate with her mind' 🤣
We still don't know what Brexit is, the Tories never answered that. All we have is a declining economy since we left, no up-sides.
Move on. Brexit happened.
@@kincaidwolf5184 Pain keeps getting worse. boris and nigel should be taken to the town square once per week for public humiliations.
@@kincaidwolf5184 how can we move on, the country is stuck with it! Business’s are still failing because of it. But I have a blue passport. Yay.

what an unimaginative set of answers! Normally this is a fab answers but this was bland.
Boring, uninspired MP, glad he is retiring.
Around 12'10" you have the stuff that makes our present government what it is: and they keep digging.
The City of London were the winners, well done Truss!
A very interesting and enjoyable interview. The views expressed about the outcome of the next General Election are deluded.
Was brought down by outside sources
Behold! A turkey not voting for Christmas.
Would have liked more details on why he went over to the dark side…
Or if he knew how much a licensed boiler maker earns in Australia thanks to people like his dad.
He thought without question… hmmmm…
Ah brexiteer, brexiteer, brexiteer.;;.;; they will never improve and never regret not to
Anybody that says ‘Journey’ I lose the will to live… apples off the trees, meat off the bone, blah blah blah 🥱
Click-bait Video title for an interview that is a yawn
Thank Christ he left Australia to influct his damage elsewhere
I have not lived in the UK since leaving at the age of 16 but have always had an interest in politics. Listening to this guy was interesting and beforehand knew nothing about him but reading the comments I could not find any one saying anything positive about him. As he was probably a moderate I think the outlook for the Conservative party at the nest election is grim
"Calder Valley" has full order books! Really?????
It would be interesting to get Dehenna Davison on this. Standing down after just one term
Well, he seems like a reasonable chap.
Yeah mate its going swimingly bell end
Liz truss bright? LOL
Sunak is tall, compared to Danny DeVito.
All the doors he knocks on tells him that the Tories could well form the next govt. he should read the comments, he’ll be in for a mighty shock…
Not a guy that most would warm to.
Apathy like the pm not voting for the conservative Susan Hall!!!
Say no more!!!!
Wrecked the country then retires...good job pal give yourself a pat on the back
Wrong on everything and glad to have been.
This man just claimed that he knocked doors for 30 years, and that issues on the door step were so often related to the EU and the only two examples he could come up with were immigration, which is totally fair, can imagine that came up plenty... And "exchange rates". He clearly hasnt been paying attention to his constituents
So Calder Valley residents were soooo concerned about the exchange rate! Not housing, NHS, education? Calder Valley must be a very special place.
"We were redefining marriage." Imagine the Tories redefining something like, I don't know, what a safe country is.
we need to Tax more RGN Nurses in blue uniforms and consultanta are having so much fun with driving brand new expensive cars , labour needs to tax these high salary earners , if labour raises taxes for benefit of nhs then poverty line people will become more poorer , they need to raise taxes for super rich only and ceo, doctors, directors high salary earners only
Good don’t come bk .
A real politician. Nothing to say about actually running the country just nonsense about whips and in-house arguments.
Liz Truss is very delusional in every aspect of governance and with such weird ideas of reality, can only cause social chaos.
Not my sort of politician - I was a Corbynite and still am - but a very interesting, (at times very amusing), honest and open interview... interviewer and interviewee both. Good to get this sort of peek behind the scenes, nicely done. Thank you, gentlemen. Oh, and for the usual hyperpartisans who will find any sort of compliment objectionable, bloody Tories, bunch of smellies etc. Happy now? [Sigh]
Getting so tired of brexit hindsight.
Calls Liz Truss deluded ? I guess it takes one to know one.
he is running away from his abject failures and away from being rejected by his constituents. what a shame he was allowed back into the country
Never heard of this tory. Why? Because he seems like a normal human being.
You might be like me and never looked into him. I just scanned the net and found out he employs his daughter as a constituency support officer and his wife's company is going bankrupt owing 300 000 to creditors and 20k to HMRC.
Truss and intelligence, in the same sentence. Come off it Mr, hardly! 😏
Not sure why anyone would want to be an MP in this day and age regardless what party they are in. Thankless and impossible job I reckon
Well you definitely don't want to be an MP that employs your daughter as a constituency support officer while your wife is involved in a bankruptcy case owing 300 000.
10:25 He's quite happy to change the definition of the word "unsafe" though. Hypocrite.

I stopped listening at the gay marriage opposition point of this interview...opposing it on the grounds that they were "redefining" marriage 10 years ago, and thinking that still applies...just means its great he's finally letting the door hit him while he's getting out.
I was trying to give him the benefit of my initial impression on his up-bringing until he mention........LIZ TRUSS!!! Pleased you are spending mor time with your wife.... Please don't return to politics, I think you have done enough damage in your lifetime!
I'm glad Craig is standing down because as a labour supporter I can't support his party but he's a damn good constituency MP
That's the point. You vote for your local MP first, and Party second.
@@kincaidwolf5184 People vote for MPs based upon their own criteria and for their own reasons. The Tory party's policies are deplorable enough that I couldn't vote for them whoever they put up because of the whipping system. Voting based on the party is ENTIRELY valid.
@tbrooke3016 i don't really see them being much different from Labour. Labour has been in power for nearly 30 years in Wales. The country isn't any better and arguably worse than England. I vote for my MP based on his skillset and connection to the area.
@@kincaidwolf5184 that's an entirely valid way to vote too. I'm just saying for me it's important. People try to spin the Labour party and the Tories as the same and honestly I can sort of see where you're coming from but it's the lesser of two evils in my opinion. Labour is closer to the center than the Tories which is why they're doing a bit better in the polls and elections because the Tories wandered away chasing the Reform voters (forgetting that they're a relatively small percentage).
Thank you for a very interesting interview for for doing an excellent job. I hope you enjoy your retirement. To the keyboard warriors, if you think you're up to it there's an election this year.
