Boring election campaign? I haven’t had so much fun in years, watching the chickens coming home to roost.

It's a very sad time 4 UK as a horrid era under Marxist Starmer is about to begin.
All should pray 4 a better safer world as Sir Liar will do nothing to stop the Axis of Evil led by Xi & Puttin.
Sir Liar has lied again & cancelled his £28B per yr green deal & he will let the world carry on burning up.
He will keep increasing teen suicides which have doubled due to CRT & Woke brainwashing on schools.

I have priorities I want from the government: I want to know what party's manifesto best fits my requirements - I rely party campaign spell their manifesto out, and also gauge which politician actually means it. What is failing is the media: just look how the Sunak vs Stamer debate where neither had a chance to talk much beyond slogans and slanging the opposition, but no meaningful discussions.

As someone transitioning from middle to old age, I’m glad I had my life when I did, if Dominic is right about the way the society is likely to go over the next 20 to 30 years. A nanny “health & safety” state sounds not just depressing, but not really even living.

The reason the polls changed for Theresa May was Jeremy Corbyn fighting a very unconventional campaign - holding rallies and energising the youth vote - which was very anti-Brexit, but the pollsters methodology told them wasn't going to vote. I don't see how campaigns could be scrapped. Better ideas would be proportional representation and annual elections, electing 1/5 of the commons each year, so that a government would need to take care to keep its majority intact.

I wonder if this point would be made if the tories were having a barnstorming campaign and labour were the ones dropping daily clangers

Please, no more "traditional" presidential debates. Replace them with a two to three hour podcast, with two, three, or four candidates sitting around a coffee table, in adequate lighting, in comfy chairs with drinks, discussing whatever they choose to discuss. No bright lights, no podiums, no time limits, no teleprompters, no binders, no cue cards, no earpieces, no live audience and absolutely no celebrity "journalist" moderators.
For the rest of the election campaign, Afuera! Prohibit all campaign fund raising, donations, and paid advertising.

    Give over...

At least it’s 6 weeks in the UK and not close to year in the US.

US presidential candidates usually start their campaigns almost 2 years before the eventual November election day.

We've been on election footing for most of this year really so it's not really a six week election. I always thought Sunak should have gone on local election day, but I'm glad he didn't drag it out until the autumn.

Scrap campaigns. Make them finish off pending legislation instead.

If I were setting up an election system, I'd have fixed 4 year terms for each seat, and have the elections staggered to two votes a year, every year. So there's a constant turn-over. I'd have some form of proportional representation so that the spread of seats better reflects the spread of votes. No big election event, and the constant electoral check on the government where they may loose seats in response to their current actions.

Fun fact the first TV debate was in 2010! 14 years ago and 5 years before Sunak became an MP. It’s a fairly new concept compared to America which started in the 1960s

Get rid of the electoral college and plz for God's sake give us a break with the constant campaigning...sick of it. And im referring to the US.

    • @oakstrong1
      @oakstrong1 4 месяца назад

We also have a form of electoral college in UK: either countries will not get proportional representation because in both countries changing the law would require both sides agreeing to it - but in both countries it would hurt disproportionately the right wing, especially in America.
