    I work in a factory in barnsley South Yorkshire where they make these doors and it looks like you got one of the better doors if it was made in barnsley because the paper infill is put in the door by hand and it doesn't always fill the whole door. Good job fitting the new top rail by the way

      Glyn Shirt Thank you. not sure where it came from supplier was Wickes i do know the size (24" 610cm) was very difficult as no one is stocking it anymore.
      anyway thanks for the comment

    Nice Job, I'm currently doing the same with a door under my stairs. Fortunately for me I didn't have to cut into any of the molded panels. However I did have to remake the door jam for the new angles on the door. i've been figuring it out as I go. I think when I'm finished It will look much better than the square door I had before. Cut to fit is always better than fitting the trim to work with the door. This way everything flows right. Just wonder though, why didn't you clamp a straight edge when cutting the door? It seems it would of saved you all the extra work later on.

    Superb job. Thank you for sharing your expertise and taking the time to video it.
    I am making an understair cupboard soon, but the newal drop is in the way (drops too low and proud of the line of the stairs by an inch. Should I cut it back to allow for trim ?

    Ok so how do you actually make the door jam. Can have the same shape.. it can't fit like a puzzle piece or it won't open. So either u need to do something with that angel at the very top

  • @catfisher420
    @catfisher420 7 лет назад

    You remind me of the guy from the movie CHAPPIE. Awesome job on the door but would save you a ton of time to just spend the extra $20 for a solid composite core door. Then all you have to do is cut it. I was really looking for a video on how to do the whole door frame at a slant. I need to install a door in my attic for a closet and the top needs to be slanted at about 35 degrees.

      @dmgladden  7 лет назад

      catfisher420 Hi thanks I have done such a video, as for you point I can see what you mean but here in the UK this style of door was once very popular but no very hard to get and my customer have these doors throughout there home and needed a match so this was the only option

    I see you decided to hang the door on the long edge and the angle of the door is quite steep.
    my experience would suggest the infill piece should be thicker because of the splayed bevel which would need to be cut to enable the door to close

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  7 лет назад

      I understand where your coning from and a fair point i didn't, in this case I was lucky as I cut a small peace from the top to which allowed the door to close, but yes in an idea world the hinge would be better on the short edge but who needs an easy life lol

    I cut all my doors just like that for all doors on my house people come over & scratch their heads why they are cut at an angle I keep telling them it just looks nice everyone thinks that a door has to be square.

    Hi. How do you do the same cut but with a solid door for the understairs toilet. The door that i am doing is solid 6 panel ,not hollow. Do you have any vids that show how to take a door apart. Thanks inadvance

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  4 года назад +1

      The problem with solid doors is if they have panel's you will be cutting main structural points and will have to re do the jointing in some way depending on the door

    If your band saw had a tilting table you could have just matched the table to the cut angle and cut your filler piece once.

    This is an old video now, but out of curiosity, why didn't you cut the angle say 6 inches shorter and than add a header similar to the footer at an angle. It would have looked more finished and not cut off, and been a lot less work shaping it.

    Love your "hand Saw" that changes colour. Not sure its worth all that effort as the top of the door looks unfinished. Quicker to build a real door?

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  7 лет назад

      yes but when a customer asked we must deliver after all its there home we can only advise and then do the best we can with the job at hand, as for my saw yes the battery was flat so out cam the electric one but you have to give it to me for the editing lol

    Why not cut the door and splice then cut again on the angle so you can keep the 4 panel moulding intact

  • @Mogul25Years

    could you just filled end out with some foam then cut excess off and stuck a thin strip on the end?

    • @dmgladden

      No spray foam would blow the side walls and give no strength to the door but more of all there's no fun in spray foam

    Why on earth would anyone bother to do that to a door ?
    It would look nasty hung like that better to make a door that fits the opening properly
    And anyway at such a angle the door would bind

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  7 лет назад +6

      nice to have constructive comments but really mate please check your facts first, the door was fitted over a year ago in a customers house and works perfect and custom making a door is always a good option if your paying for it but not when the customer had bought the door and needs it to fit, you use your ability to make it work. anyway thanks for watching
