Custom Closet Doors

- The next step in the bonus room renovation is to get these closet doors built. In a normal situation you can just run out the big box store and buy a pre-hung door. This would include the frame that just slides into your opening and with minor adjustments you have a door. Well, in the case of this bonus room I have slanted ceilings and shorter than standard opening so I need to make something custom. Here is the process that I used, right or wrong they turned out great!

Just a suggestion, but before hanging your doors you should mud and tape your drywall. I see you have a corner within a foot of the door jam. When you float that corner it's going to cause gap between your trim and your door. I know you can always fill in with caulk, but with caulk, a little goes a long way. Anyways nice vid, I just recently did a similar project with door under a stair. It was a fun project and I also had a little one running around...
Nice job. I learned a couple tricks. I cut a hole into my access for storing Christmas stuff etc, and was looking for a good way to close it off.
I wonder if I should wear shoes when using a circular saw?

Hey , you know what ? there are guys who use templet guides to route in the hinges, there are guys who use straight edge guides ( and shoes : ) to cut with the saw but when it comes out looking that good, I guess they wouldn't have too much to say. Great job! Your an insporation to those who want to learn.
Lol thanks! I probably should use some better guides and templates but I am cheap so if I have to buy it I don't get it for awhile :)

Great job, wish I knew how to do this stuff, hubby can't even do it lol.. About to Redo our bedroom, but just needs painting, crown molding, chair rail and new closet doors and new Windows :) Very cute little girl :)

that was funny your little girl was like eewww saw dust on my feet. We had to make a door for the closet in the bathroom we used a piece of ply wood and 1 by 2 it looks like a great door from the out side of it you don't realize its cheap till you open it we didn't want everyone to see all the stuff on the shelf's. On if you should wear shoes doing that many say yes but I do weird stuff to so what I say unless you need to hold something down with your foot I would not worry about it your feet behide you not by the saw unless your holding something down with your foot then you mite want to lol. I hope all is well with the family
Lol yeah I probably should have been wearing shoes just for the fact that I stepped on all kinds of sharp stuff on the floor that day anyway! That plywood sounds like a perfect solution for hiding the 'junk' in the bathroom. I wish I had more hiding places for all of the kids junk!
the only way you can hide all the kids junk is if you make a foot lock for each of them loll I know good idea that why I'm the master mind lol I live in a old house that was built in 1938 so I have to think of ways to do stuff where usely is not a problem so I make was to get things done my room more likely smaller then your closet
Is it going to be cold in that bed being under the window?
+lechatboote probably, it is more meant for sleepovers and guests so it won't be used as her regular bed. She has a real bed for the room.

Hey there, been watching your videos and find them inspirational! I thumbs up your videos, can you show us how you will be mudding in detail? I am working on a few things in my basement I inclosed a heat duct and have drywalled it , just dreading the mud, its over head so its going to be a pain in the neck LOL :)~ then a few wall need built after that, I only mudded once about ten years ago looks great but I need a refresher course lol great job BTW keep up the good work! P.S Were you wearing shoes??? where's my shoes? lol :P
Lol, we'll taping and mudding is not my strong point so I was planning to skip that part in detail. I will showcase some of it on the final video. I suppose if I get some good clips I will see if I have enough to make a stand alone video on it. Thanks for following along!!!!
