Lost Mode = new passcode, special message, and required Apple ID Login to unlock the phone (then other locking features like face ID and/or your original passcode). Erase Device = wipe the phone to reset it to factory default, this includes all of your apps, photos, notes, etc. INCLUDING THOSE that are not stored in your iCloud. Unfortunately there's no way for you to retrieve these but it prevents a thief, who if able to get into your phone (no passcode or lost mode), from being able to see your private/personal content. Sorry this is so late! I'm going through this process myself right now and stumbled upon this video. Do take care to upgrade your iCloud if you run out of storage! It's fairly cheap and well worth it if you are to lose, break, or have a phone stolen from you.

If you give them your account information this way then they can use it as potential blackmail and sell your information to all kinds of people and places. If you don't give them the information, they will be forced to factory reset the phone (using jailbreak tools), which removes all of your information from the device. hi bro, change your apple id password immediately and do check few hours once whether any location data update happens with find my service. they need your password to remove the device from find my service and activation lock. so they can sell the device by formatting it. lets hope the change of password prevents them from accessing the find my activation lock.

Oh, sorry maricaperez, right now its not possible to add your device back. do visit icloud . com directly and check whether your device is still showing in lost mode and any option available to undo it. If the thieves didnt remove your device we can undo it. otherwise not possible :(

I am sorry to hear about it bro. but the chances of finding the phone now a days is getting reduced. thieves are getting more advanced and if you are unable to track the phone using find my service. then its very less chance. do register the complaint with police and wait for further communication. Some thieves quickly dismantle the phone for possible spares usage too. I hope you find your iPhone.
