yep one of my go to bulk blends. love it in the morning with a cup of coffee. also really enjoy hienrichs golden sliced, rainier golden, newminster 400.
Agree totally-507 C is a simple, but very good VA flake that strangely doesn’t change a lot with age. Have you tried 507 S (stoved VA)? I just added 4 ounces to an order yesterday-cheap too. Mostly thought of as a blender, but great reviews similar to McClelland Dark Star, Rattray’s Dark Fragant, etc.
I think Mac might have a bigger facility, they make so many for a bunch of companies, I know for a fact they have bailed out sutlif many times by making stuff for them. Newminster was a surprise to me I found that out a couple weeks ago
I have a pound of this jarred up and aging. It's already started to darken up. It's a very enjoyable smoke for me. Thanks for your thoughts Brian. Have a great weekend. I hope the boat canopy stays put.
Morning Brian, this blend is certainly the bread and butter every day driver when it comes to Virginia blends, no fuss straight forward profile. It mixes well with other stuff or good on its own, the value for money give it an extra edge thats for sure. Glad you enjoyed it. Be well and stay safe brother
Hello my friend I have been thinking about you I hope you are ok ? I haven’t heard from you in awhile. Hope everything is ok it’s been a brutal winter here so far
@@beans316 morning brother, everything is well been a brutal winter here too and next week is anticipated to be much worse. I have to catch up on vids this weekend
This is a good Virginia. I imagine it’s great aged though. I actually prefer Newminster 400 as a better bulk Virginia. Like you said, I use this one to combine with others. It’s really good stoved at home too.
Brian, I have off that week for vacation too. So, I will plan on coming over to see ya’ll. But I am all out of aged Escudo. 10-year aged Billy Budd work? Haha.
Haha awesome my friend so glad you can make it I actually have a lot of aged Escudo from the Ohio show I forget how old it is but think it’s 12-15 years old I’ll look
Regarding the Kringle Flake review, the subjectivity of tobacco tastes are a crazy thing. When I watch your reviews I’m not expecting that our taste will match 100%, but I watch them because you articulate the tastes so well and I know that often our tastes will align. Hell, I think I’m the only person in the world that thinks Elizabethan tastes like cardboard and ash!
Good morning and Happy Saturday my friend. I think doing a side by side is probably the best way to pick up what differences there might be. I'm enjoying a bowl of Reiner Gold Virginia Flake, it really is good. Mind you I'm trying to understate it so there isn't a run on it being totally selfish here. Have a good one.
Man I wish I could attend a meet-up anywhere ! Being in Canada and living in a very rural area makes this impossible, but you guys are so lucky to be able to do this. In the last year or so I've really become a fan of Virginia tobacco. I have also gained a respect for Burleys. I still enjoy my Aromatics, but I just can't enjoy Perique anymore.
Just got some and plan to get more. To me it taste like "Orlik Golden Slice" in a bulk blend. Not the same but close enough for me. I can get 2 pounds for the same price of 4 tins of OGS.
To me, the red Virginias and va/pers benefit the most from a few years. I recently smoked the best tin of Elizabethan Mixture I’ve ever had. Tasted like fresh bread and old Pinot Noir. You know, with Tabasco
Yes you are so right in fact I believe it’s really the only types that really benefit, English blends do nothing with age in my opinion except maybe loose it’s punch
Brian, the Sutliff 507C is made by Orlik. That was in place before Sutliff was bought by MacBaren, a direct competitor of Orlik. It was selling so well, MacBaren didn't dare mess with the deal! It's an excellent value for the money, but I've never been a Virginia fan.
Fantastic blend, I’m right there with you. I think I might be able to make it on the 30th. I was talking to Cole last night. I’m a little over 2 hours away. Not too bad. Especially if we get there at 9 AM.
Awesome would be cool it’s 4 hours for us we will be there at opening and leave early afternoon maybe we can all go to eat a early dinner before we head out
Sounds pretty good. I do like Orlik Golden, would you say it's around the same flavor profile/ better or worse? Also I like the style of the two pipes you're using, did you make them? If not where did you get them? Best, Jimmy
@@beans316 Ah ok, thanks! Hey also was wondering if you have an email to send you a PM? I have some tobacco I'm looking to trade. If you'd be interested?
Curious on how it would be with another 3 or 4 years. Boswell's is about a 7 hr drive for me, and if i had the day off, i probably would make the trip. definitely some crazy weather for December, we had thunderstorms last night, and 40 mph winds today in Northern Indiana. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I love when a bulk blend is cheap, always available, and smokes like a champ! My only issue is running out of Mason jars on island. It's like early pandemic TP. 🤦♂️
I am newish pipe guy and very new to straight Virginia. ( They and Vapors are now my favorite) So far I have tried Orlick very nice and New Minster 400. Flake I love this stuff. I need to try the Sutliff I am not a huge Sutliff blends fan based on th couple I have tried ( I did great a tin of the 2021 Cringle flake 😁😁). You made me want to try this Sutliff! Thanks good video
Sutliff slices is one of my favorites as far as straight Virginia’s, I make a lot of blends out of Sutliff slices. Best cheap VA on the market in my opinion
Aged tobacco is so overrated. And this is something that pipe tobacco companies profit big time. In the old days people didn’t smoke tobacco that was not fresh. People don’t make videos about tobacco actually going bad with aging but you can read about it on forums. But great video!👍👍👍
507 C was def straightforward Virginia. I didn't care for it as much. But like you said....one mans treasure is another mans garbage! LOL Cant believe how much the appearance changed!

I really like this tobacco and have some stocked in the cellar to enjoy with some age, as well as keep some fresh in the regular rotation. It is a very good bargain Virginia that does not disappoint
