Thank you for sharing this. I purchase a grafted Valencia pride tree today. I live in Central Florida and my soil looks EXACTLY like yours. I guess I made the right choice. I’ve never had a Valencia pride mango , but my friend from the Philippines has been growing it and convinced me to buy one to try it. Salamat!!
Another variety you might be interested in is CAC. It is a very vigorous tree and in Viet Nam it is know as the sand mango. It is supposed to do well in sandy soils.
Cac is definitely here in Florida. I'm over in inland Collier county and my soil is even more sandy than yours, just pure, sterile sand. Even weeds struggle. Valencia Pride and Cac are my two healthiest mangoes. Also Crafton Clift told me to use Valencia Pride seedlings to graft. Valencia Pride is tastiest after they turn pink and then a little bit yellow as well. Also I'm trying to use Bentonite/ montmorillonite clay as a soil additive. It is called saf t sorb at Tractor Supply. My experience losing many trees is similar to yours. I wish you the best!@@aminstropicalgardening8371
Look like you cover under grown the graft, the tree will die, I recommended to you buy at load of dirt and mulch mixer, plant your trees your sure will have better result.
This is really challenging to grow in such a dry sandy condition. It will grow slowly but once it is established hope it will conserve water under it and will not face any problem. If possible mulching paper like polythene can be used at the base of the seedling so that top soil remain under cover and will not allow to dry off. More grass can be introduced on top soil which may help reserve/conserve some water in that dry condition.
But you can try or use any kinds of antifungal medicine for fast growing.....& Soil looking likely indonesian rainforest....so are you belongs to Indonesia?!
I've never seen such hard soil and to maintain a mango plant is very very hard job. Nice work sir!
