    Great video. Camera closeups help this novice grower a lot. I recently took over my father's property, and I am using your instructional videos to maintain 4 trees. I now have 8 new mango trees in pots that are about a foot tall. Thnx again for the time & effort you put into these videos.

    Hello, I'm from the southern Caribbean and I received a dwarf Julie mango tree recently. We have about 75 different varieties of mangoes here on the island and this is the first time I'm growing one myself. I was looking for a video on how to take care of them and prune them. Thank you for explaining it so thoroughly. You really explained it so well so I know how to go about trimming the branches without doing harm to the tree.

    You have got a lot of knowledge on mango trees. I have learned a lot from watching your Channel. I live on an Island Called Pohnpei which on the pacific side near the equator and our mango trees grow massive. I am talking over 100'. We have some great tasting mango but very hard to pick since they are so tall. The only way to pick them is to climb. It was easy for me when i was younger but now I am not able to do it so easily and I know it's going to get harder as the years go by. I am going to plant and graft some of the best once that I know of and try to train the trees young and see if I can get them to bear while they are still short. I have seen similar Mango here like some of the ones you have shown on your channel but not sure if they are the same. We have our own name for our Mango here but I have no Idea what they are in English. Some are great tasting when they are still green but not very sweat when they are ripe and some are very bitter when they are green but very very sweat when they are ripe. Well I just wanted to thank you for all the great and free knowledge. Thanks

    Is it important to prune at an angle? (for mango or any trees)
    Is it important to prune at a specific direction to influence how a branch grows out? (for mango or any trees)
    Is it safe to prune during the heavy monsoon season? (mango or any trees)
    Getting to know these would be a start! Thank you!

    Hi Chris I recently got a mango tree that is very similar to one of your trees in the video. The problem i am facing is the tree has 3 branches that came out at the original tipping point. Since then it looks like only one if the branches is still alive and the living branch has grown and added new leaves. Now the tree looks very long with one branch pointing upward. I was wondering if you are able to share some advice on how to approach this. I thought 3 possible options however your knowledge in this area would be greatly appreciate. I thought i could either prune the tip to try and expand branches on the leftover branch, or air layer the tree a root the upper half, then cut below the dead branches with the hope of expanding branches, or just cut the mango below the 3 previous branches that were formed from the earlier tipping. I am very new to this and very open to any advice or knowledge you are willing to share. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge via all the awesome videos

    I've made cuts in different places on the stem, and noticed that branching develops better if I make a cut closer to the node. I cut half way between nodes and got a bunch of branches or like a cluster though and wonder if I should leave or cut further. What would you recommend? Is a cluster okay or a nice smooth branch instead?

    Great examples especially tree #2. Dry detailed on how to determine where u want a branch to grow. I’ve since cut all my trees below the growth rings, tipped others and cleared the centers of branches that were crossing. It hurt but it made since after this video. Now my question. Should I now 1) feed to promote growth and 2) no additional pruning til next year!

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  6 лет назад +1

      Now is a good time to supply your trees with nutrients. Giving them nitrogen would depend on how much you would like your trees to grow.
      Re Trimming... You can prune in August and sometimes September. We tried to cut all or our trees before Hurricane Irma last year (Sept), and most of our trees fruited well this season.

    When would you stop pruning. I recently took on the care of a young mango tree bout a year after uprooting it from a neighbor who no longer wanted it. No fruits have produced as of yet. Been giving lots of water and minimal pruning. New leaves have started to grow up. I wonder if i should be feeding it more fertilizer or any other natural substances for better growth during these hot Florida times.

    Hi, I am from middle Europe, and trying to grow seeds from shop bought mangoes, maybe from Brazil, monoembryonic ones, in a greenhouse, in winter inside of the house. My seeds are not growing much in the full sun in June after germination outside in my greenhouse(not heated), in the shade better. Inside in front of the window is the best, just from spring till September. I get end of May outside 10-13 degrees in Celsius at night, maybe it is too cold daily max. is 25-27 degrees Celsius, what is about 40 C at noon in the greenhouse. In the house constantly 20- 24 degrees Celsius, and they grow in summer every month 1 section(15-20 cm) rapidly.I mean house and inside, where i live so no greenhouse, just in front of the window, no humidity. Of course the bigger plants can handle 40 degrees Celsius in my greenhouse and they grow a couple of sections, but slower than inside..I sprinkle the leaves with water every day. Can you give an explanation for monoembryonic and polyembryonic seeds, and the difference? As far i know a polyembryonic seed has multiple shoots,one of them perhaps the smallest is not true to type, the others are clones of the mother tree. So a monoembryonic seed, with one shoot, has not the genetics of the mother plant, then what? It will flower much later..why? And it won't be so tasty? I am a bit confused:) Can i get good fruits from a mono-seed? My oldest mono-tree is about 4,5 years old and maybe 1/3 the size of yours in Florida:) Any asian varieties growing better in my region with not much humidity, of course in containers? I have 4 seasons :) Thanks, Adam

      Wow! It sounds like you LOVE mangos!
      Soon we will do a video on Mono- and Poly-embryonic seeds, which will probably answer all your questions (and more)
      Good Luck with your project!

    • @adamb.8854
      @adamb.8854 6 лет назад +1

      Truly Tropical thank you for the mono-poly explanation, this year i am lucky, cause i got beginning August a 3 years old Keitt tree as i was on vacation just under Naples in Italy.There were two fruits on it,one is gone while transporting.
      The other has changed colour into red, but has grown just 15% in the last 4 weeks. It has a weight about a pound now. Maybe till middle October i can leave it in my greenhouse, then the night temperature goes about 40 Fahrenheit and the leaves start to brown...:( i hope it will ripen..:)
      Do you have the following mango types: Kensington Pride,R2E2(huge), Nam Doc Mai?
      I tasted these above, and Keitt,Kent,Palmer... as European, and for some reason my favorite became KP, for its size and strong flavour.
      Have you tried Gomera-3 mango tree as rootstock?
      Thanks Adam

    • @KickBull
      @KickBull 5 лет назад

      If it's still only 2 feet tall last thing you want is for it to produce fruit lol, you might get 1 mango if you're lucky but the rest will simply fall off because they can't be supported. And frankly it's just not worth it, you want the tree to grow well in it's early stages, not only so that it can produce more fruits in the coming years, but also... You know... So that you can have a stronger and better tree. I don't know where you live for your sapling mango to get flowers, but if you're that thirsty for a mango go to a shop and buy one
