I am grateful for your tip on preparing the scion ahead of grafting. My Julie mango tree does not present /provide scion wood with buds to be. It's just a characteristic of Julie. The "buds" come out as a woody branch. So your tip should enable one to trim the woody branch which might excite/entice the bud to come out. Thanks. Am not sure it'll happen but I beleve it should bud with the wood trimmed.
One of my new favourite channels to watch. i have a few other trees and just lost my first attempt at a mango tree due to frost damage. i was too late setting up a greenhouse while it was in its first year. Question: Do you know if this second method works with other types of fruit trees?

My 7 year old pineapple pleasure witch was covered with paniicals, but the flowers were all males! Last year it bloomed twice and the second flush produced only 8 mangoes. None of my other mango trees have this problem.
Hello...thanks so much for the tip about prepping scions. I am kind of new in the art. Since I am from.the Philippines, do you have a variety that come from here more specifically Carabao Mango? I am curious if it grows there as well. They are very sweet. Arguably the sweetest in the world. I have just finished harvesting a week ago and they are all starting to ripen up in the shelf. Really great for mango pocket pie, mango shake, or just even eaten as is. Take care and more power to you and your channel.

Electrical tape would not be good because it would girdle the tree. Do you have access to Parafilm? We have also heard that people have used parts of plastic bags for grafting.
Maam I do have mango going up in a pot like 4 inches tall. I wonder if I could request scions from you. I live in Renton Washington. I want to learn more how I could make this mango tree bear fruit in a pot.
I am answering with my experience with growing mangoes in pots. I tried 2 dif kinds in pots - miracle and nam doc mai. They were mature - left them in pots for 2 years more, but they never made any mangoes. Finally put them in the ground. This year we had 75 mangoes - so wonderful. I used citrus-tone organic. Maybe others have had different experiences.
The best is during summer or dry season coz once you graft during rainy season almost 80% unsuccessful base on my experience due to moisture presence inside the plastic tube cover of the scion

Our success rate is better when we prepare scions instead of just cutting from the trees without preparing them.

Preparing the scion is really a good idea. I have tried twice in a small mango tree but failed.
Yes. Preparing scions helps lock in moisture while scion bonds to - healthy, vigorous - rootstock. Both scion and rootstock are of equal concern.

Hi Chris, how big of a diameter should your scion be for good grafting wood?
Rather than selecting for the diameter of the scion, I usually select scions that are green but don't bend much.

Do we have to choose the scion from fruit producing tree or any normal tree(non fruit producing, young tree)..
Scions can come from trees of any age, but it's best to avoid the time of year when the trees are producing flowers.
Does the time of year matter, or only having the proper bud wood?
It's best to avoid cold weather and when trees are flowering or about to flower.
Can you do a video on how to properly prune a tree that was hurricane damaged so that it grows back healthy? The main branch was split very ragged.

T-buds don't work well on mangos.
Theoretically you only need one bud. I usually cut the scion at a length that is comfortable to work with.
