Excellent presentation! I love the fact that you go straight to the point, yet deep into detail, making your videos very pleasant to watch. thank you for a job well done!
This would be an exciting upgrade from my iX500, which has been a workhorse for business and home documents! With its quick response time, I won’t let receipts pile up before scanning them and clearing the clutter. 🎉 In my work as a Realtor, I’m constantly digitizing contracts, and important documents in the course of our transactions. ❤
I found the answer to some of my questions below. I still have some questions though. I will just put the answer with it to help others.) In a previous comment, someone didn't like the quality of photo scans. You replied that some people might need a specialized scanner. What scanner do you recommend? How close does the iX1600 come to the original photo quality? What can the Adobe software do that we can't do without it? I am trying to decide if I should get the model with the software. If you scan a receipt, can it add it to a spreadsheet or something? (closest I found was that some scanners with OCR can put the amount in the filename) You mention you have a promo code but you also have an Amazon link. Are we supposed to just use Amazon now and not the code? (found the answer in an email from you... use Amazon link) I love that you talked about the dust feature... It might seem small but it is important. Are you a lawyer? Do you have a video on what we still need to keep as a paper copy vs shredding/tossing after scanning? (Yes to being a lawyer) Can we get an OCR version and the original at the same time? I want to keep the original in case there is an error with the OCR. I am sorry for posting so many questions... I am a newbie Thanks for your help!
Hi Sean! Thank you for your great review. After seeing your video, I decided to buy the machine ending a very long (and costly) journey to find the perfect auto duplex/ADF scanner that I needed. I wish I would have seen your video 1 year ago :) Thank you!
Hi radusoviani. You are most welcome. I'm glad that you decided to buy an iX1600. I use mine all the time and it has been working perfectly since day one. I hope that yours will work well for you for a long time. 🙂
Good morning Barbara. Thank you for getting in touch. I'm glad that you want to buy the scanner. My code with Fujitsu has unfortunately expired but I found the best price I could on Amazon and have a link: amzn.to/3Ge7UhM. For my channel subscribers, I offer ongoing support and have colleagues who work at Fujitsu. If there is ever anything I don’t know, I have direct access to the engineering department (the people who design and build these units) to answer all of my viewers’ questions. If you buy the iX1600, let me know. I'd love to know what you think. 🙂
Hi there. Thank you you very much for your comment. I really appreciate it. Ideally some day I will have more subscribers but for now, I'm grateful for every one I have. =)
The software on desktop is MUCH better than I expected. In my experience, Japanese hardware companies can’t do software very well. Brother and Canon software is often terrible. Great review, thanks so much. I’m going to buy one here in the UK within the next 12 months.
Thank you for your comment. My experience is also that the desktop software works well. It does everything I need it to do and I've never had an issue with it. Some people want it to offer advanced functions (like interfacing through TWAIN or other drivers or auto-totaling receipts and auto-sorting documents within a single scan job) but I think that for the market that it is designed for (home, school, and small business) it does a great job. =)
You are most welcome Cindy. I don't believe that you can add page numbering through the ScanSnap iX1600 or ScanSnap Home software. I would recommend using Adobe Acrobat to do that. It is amazing software that I use every day. 😊
This scanner seems great! If I won a ScanSnap iX1600 I would scan all the old paper records I've been storing that I don't need physical copies of, but would like a digital copy.
Hi@@dhc6969. Thanks for commenting. It is for people in Canada. Please see the link in the comment section. If you are outside of Canada, I will be adding my Amazon referral program link soon but it would simply be for the regular, market rate. No discount unfortunately.
The review is excellent to show it is a worthy affordable scanner to my office use. So happy I found your video. It is very helpful that you showed the steps in setting it up.
Thanks Jesus! It will depend on your operating system. I'm seeing from the download page (www.pfu-apac.ricoh.com/ph/scanners/scansnap/ix1600/) that it is compatible with "macOS Mojave 10.14 or later". I can't say for sure but I assume that it would work with your version. These machines are all current. 😊
I am using the Fujitsu iX1600. I have learned a lot from your videos. I was using the iX500. I like the old Scansnap receipts software. The new Scansnap Home does not have the same features as the old software. It is a lot more difficult to tally up the receipts.

Still using s1300i. This one looks like quite an upgrade. I have been scanning for 15+ years and I use it with Evernote. The one I have is not difficult to use but difficult to insert a document with many pages. I would try this one to see if large many-page documents or receipts would make life easier. Considering upgrading.
Hi Grace. Thank you for that. The iX1600 is quite an upgrade over the s1300i. Were you meaning enter my contest giveaway? If so, would you please comment on another video sharing what the first thing you would scan would be if you won. I am getting a lot of entries and want to make sure that I get you on the list if you were meaning to enter. Thanks so much.
It does. But accuracy at pulling that information is horrid compared to even a cheap Brother portable battery powered receipt scanner. But all other features are light years ahead.
@@sisteradmnAnytime. My cheap Epson Rapid Receipt RR70 pretty much never misses with extracting info. I don't think that the ScanSnap has been right once with the vendor. And it finds the amount roughly 20% of the time (and the correct date even less often). Moreover, receipt scanning is capped at 14" long unless you have the Receipt Edition. That said, I'm going to keep the IX1600. For general purpose scanning, it's amazing. Lightning fast, great scan quality, super easy to configure (delete blank pages, OCR, etc). Receipt scanning is the only portion that is subpar. Nickel and diming people an extra $20 for the "receipt edition" that only comes in black is also silly.
Hey Sean just found your channel and have a Fujitsu ix1400 but notice you haven’t reviewed it, so which is the most similar to it that I can watch? Most interested in the receipt calculation feature. Enjoying your videos.
Hi Koree. Wonderful. Thank you for watching. The iX1400 is most similar to the iX1600, with a few small differences. I talk about this briefly in my FAQ video at the 23:04 mark. Here is a link to the video, to that part: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html I hope that it helps. 🙂👍
I went to amazon and they have the ix1600, ix1600 deluxe, and ix1600 premium. Which one is best in your opinion? Which one did you review here in this video?
Hi there. I believe that the iX1600 is exactly the same for each of those options and the only difference is the warranty options. As far as I know, there really only is one version of the iX1600.
Hy Sean. I have two questions: 1. Is it posible to use this scaner in office where PCs are not connected on network through wifi than with cable? 2. Is posible to scan two sided document automaticaly?
Hi Dodge. Thanks for your questions. Let’s take them one-by-one. 1. Yes and no. If you don’t have wi-fi, the only other option is to connect to the iX1600 by USB cable. There is no ethernet network cable slot. However, ethernet cable connections are standard on many scanners in the Workgroup series including the Fujitsu fi-8170. I’m in the process of making a review video for this scanner. It isn’t ready yet but if you’re interested, I did finish the unboxing video. Here is the RUclips link: ruclips.net/video/dirvU7Attw4/видео.html 2. Yes. The iX1600 offers automatic duplex (double-sided) scanning, assuming that you’ve enabled it in whatever scanning profile you are using, which is very easy to control and enable for each profile: document scanning, photo scanning, receipt scanning, business card scanning, and any other profiles that you may want to set up. 👍
You are most welcome Bruno. If you are going to buy it from Amazon, I would be grateful if you used my Amazon link (included in the video description area). I hope that you are having a Happy New Year's Eve!
Excellent work. You explained each and every point. The only video I needed to watch before making the decision to purchase this unit. Thank you! Your sub count should be 100K+ for the quality of your content. I pray you reach their one day. God bless!
Thanks Sami. I really appreciate that. I'm glad to know that my video helped you make your decision. If I can provide that help, I'm happy. =) Thank you for the wishes for my sub count. I hope that it will reach 100K+ some day. Haha. If you wanted to mention my channel to a friend, please do. =P
@@SeanDillman already done =) thank you! Got my machine last week. It is amazing. I have never had this crisp of receipt scans before. I have you to thank! Take care, Sean!
@@SamiMemon That is awesome news. Thank you for letting me know. They are incredible right? I'm glad to hear that they have made your life easier (that's huge) and I totally agree with you saying that it’s a "beast". In my experience, Fujitsu products are very durable and dependable. I once had a ScanSnap S1300 which I had run way past the recommended number of scan jobs (I had scanned the contents of entire offices) and it just kept running and running. I'm sure that the iX1600s will do a great job for you. Let me know if anything comes up. =)
@@SeanDillman bless up, brother. Each receipt used to take about half a minute to scan and clean up on my old flatbed. Now it takes less than a second. This thing swallow receipts up. And the enhancement is automatic. No creases, nothing. Thank you.
Is it possible to put multiple business cards in the tray to batch process the cards? I have 1000+ cards I want to scan, import in Google and categorize. Thank you
Hi JD. You can definitely input multiple business cards and scan them as part of a batch process. Even with more than 1,000 cards, it shouldn't take too long. 😊👍
The first thing I would scan with a new iX1600 is business and personal reciepts to declutter my filing cabinet. I also would scan documents that we have archived in paper so I can send them to customers for tech support assistance. My old ix500 is getting tired and cranky when dealing with Windows 11.
When scanning my photos, the photos of people are coming out with reddish skin tone. How can I scan photos and are the same color as the physical photos? I have a Fujitsu scan snap ix1600. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi Heather. Please excuse my delay in getting back to you. I'm not sure how I missed this message. Did you find a solution to the skin tone issue? I'm away from my office and my scanner at the moment but I believe that there are at least some settings in ScanSnap Home that can be changed in relation to image resolution. I'm not sure what you can do about color though. I don't believe that there are many settings for that. You could try scanning as .JPG and as .PNG and see how it may be different?
Hi Josh. That's a great idea. I just added it to my future video list. However, one big difference I already know about is that the ADS-3100 doesn't have a touchscreen, though I believe that the ADS-3300W does. 😊
Hi Antonetteinbk. Please excuse the delay in me responding. I have been updating my website and working on a new one and it took longer than anticipated (it always seems to). If you're still interested, please visit the new section of my website which contains my recommended tech: www.seandillman.com/recommendations/#Peripherals. Please click where it says "Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600" in the "Peripherals" section. The link will take you to the website where you can by the scanner through this promotion.
Thank you for the nice set of ScanSnap videos. I am thinking of getting the ix1600 Chromebook edition so my wife can use it with her Chromebook, but do you know - can that model work just as well with the regular ScanSnap software running on a Windows machine (or Mac) as well? Thanks again.
Hi there. I will be doing a review of the Chromebook version in the future. My understanding is that it basically the same machine except with Chromebook functionality. 😊👍
Great video, thanks for posting. A couple of questions. How does the scanner know where to place the file? It just says folder, and what if I want multiple subfolders like taxes, receipts, healthcare documents, etc. Can the scanner put items in the right place? And second, will I be able to search from my computer for, say 2018 taxes, and have it find the scanned document? And finally, can I plug in a stand-alone hard drive and have the scanner push the scans directly to it? Thanks!
Thank you Ken. You are most welcome. Thank you for those three questions. Answer to question one. There are a few ways. Depending on the scanning profile you use, the iX1600 will automatically save certain types of documents to certain folders. For example, photos to a folder called ‘photos’, Receipts to a folder called ‘receipts’, etc. If you know that you will be scanning a lot of healthcare or tax documents, you can make a custom profile for those kinds of documents and optimize the scan quality and folder location for those types of documents (this is easy to do). Alternately, you can simply scan using the ‘Scan to Folder’ profile. This will allow you to select where you want to save it after every scan (also easy to do). In general, yes. There are numerous ways to sort scans as they are being scanned or just after they are scanned. Answer to question two. Yes. If you use the ScanSnap home application, the search functionality is quite robust. Assuming that your documents have been appropriately filed into correct folders (and you may want to take the extra step of giving them precise names), you should be able to easily find the documents (though searching for historical documents can be tricky sometimes). Depending on the naming conventions you have used, searching for ‘2018 tax’ or ‘tax 2018’ should do it. Answer to question three. That is a very interesting question. I am not certain, but I strongly doubt that it can directly access a hard drive to save the data. Although the document is scanned and processed locally on the scanner, I believe that the iX1600 then relies either on an operating system (Windows or Mac) or a cloud service (ScanSnap Cloud) to be the intermediary to store the scanned document. If a standalone hard drive was connected to the iX1600, I don’t believe that there would be any ‘smarts’ anywhere to get the file onto the hard drive and into the right place. I know some people at Fujitsu and will make a note to ask them about this. I could test it with my own unit but I’m fairly confident that it won’t work, and I don’t want to risk damaging my iX1600 or a hard drive. I’m not sure what concern/desire is behind your question but, if it’s helpful, you can scan from the iX1600 without it being connected to a computer and scan directly to the cloud. I never plug my iX1600 into my computer anymore. I scan from the iX1600 directly to the cloud through my PC or Smartphone. It works like a charm. =)
Thank you, Sean. I was on the fence but your video convinced me. I'm going to get one direct from Ricoh. How do I provide the promo code so that you get some credit?
Hi there. Thanks so much. I hope that you'll love it. I don't believe there is a way to give a promo code any more. I appreciate you wanting to give me credit in any event. You're the best. 😊👍
Hey Sean ... we are using some of your videos for home school classes - we love your content. How do we contact you to get that discount code ... very interested in using for our home business as well.
Hi there. That is wonderful. I'm glad that you are using my videos for that purpose. That's wonderful. =) Please just send me an email through my website, www.seandillman.com/contact/. 🙂
Hi there. Good question. I believe that I simply scan everything in duplex, meaning that it scans both sides, so that it makes no difference which side I scan. I keep the "Blank Page Removal" option on so that even if it does scan a blank side, I don't see it. If it does end up scanning a side with little or no data, I just delete that page in the PDF. If you do it this way, keep in mind that the page facing you will be scanned last so you will need to consider your page order. For example, if you have three documents, and you want them to be scanned in the order of 1, 2, 3, then you will want the last page to be facing you, not the first. If you use the non-duplex mode, you can place the documents facing away from you in the order of 1, 2, 3 (meaning, the bottom document will be scanned first and the correct order will be preserved).
The first thing I would scan with a new IX 1600 is receipts to tame the paper tiger we have in our office. So many bills, receipts, insurance EOB. All need to be scanned and stored.
Hi there. Thank you for those questions. With the previous versions of the ScanSnap software there used to be separate programs (ScanSnap Receipt, ScanSnap Organizer, and Cardminder), but with ScanSnap Home, all of the other apps, including the receipt software, were integrated into one centralized application. If you scan a receipt in ScanSnap Home, you can export the information to a CSV file then you can edit/organize the data in a spreadsheet. Here is a link to more information on the Fujitsu website: www.pfu.fujitsu.com/imaging/downloads/manual/ss_webhelp/en/help/webhelp/topic/ope_appli_meta_receipt.html
Ahoy Captain Pedro! Thank you for getting in touch. You are most welcome. I'm glad that you liked the review. Did you also see my frequently asked questions (FAQ) video? Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html. I made this second video because I was receiving so many great questions on my review video. Hi Keith. I'm glad that you're having a great experience with the iX500. The iX1600 offers some higher scanning speeds and the great touchscreen that the iX500 doesn't have. How long have you had your iX500?
Hi Dinda. You are most welcome. Thank you for your comment. Yes it does have OCR Technology. The OCR function for ScanSnap is through ABBYY FineReader. ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap is an application used exclusively with the ScanSnap. It can be used to perform text recognition of text information in an image in a PDF format of a document scanned with the ScanSnap, and convert the image to a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file. For more information, please check out the following page on the Fujitsu website: www.pfu.fujitsu.com/imaging/downloads/manual/ss_webhelp/en/help/webhelp/topic/ope_appli_abbyy_detail.html
do you know if this comes with a Twain driver? can it scan to the cloud? and is it wifi - so that I guess you don't necessarily have to have it connected via USB to a computer. I could just go up to scanner and turn it on and scan to cloud without having to turn on computer? thanks
Hi Don. Those are great questions. Thank you for asking them. Let’s take them one by one. 1. Does the iX1600 come with a Twain driver? No. The iX1600 ScanSnap is part of Fujitsu’s "Small Office & Home Office" series and does not offer TWAIN compatibility. The Fujitsu fi/SP series are the "For Business" models which do have TWAIN compatibility. 2. Can the iX1600 scan to the cloud? Yes. The iX1600 is designed to scan to various cloud services including Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, and OneDrive. 3. Is it wi-fi so that you don't necessarily have to have it connected via USB to a computer? Yes. The iX1600 connects by wi-fi and you do not need to connect it to anything by a USB cable once it is set up. In my experience, it is easier to set it up with a USB cable first and then connect it by wi-fi. Once it is connected wirelessly, you can disconnect the USB cable and use it entirely wirelessly moving forward. 4. I could just go up to the scanner and turn it on and scan to cloud without having to turn on a computer? No. The iX1600 must scan through a device using the ScanSnap Home software or mobile app. That being said, if you scan through a mobile device, you can indeed scan without turning on a desktop computer. However, the scan job will go directly to your mobile device. I suppose that you could then move the file on your mobile device from there and upload it to the cloud, but that would depend on if you could do this on your mobile device. The easier thing to do is just to keep a computer on which is running the ScanSnap Home software. You can walk up to the iX1600, put in whatever you want to scan, use the menus to select your scan profile, and scan to the cloud from there using the correct profile. But to reiterate, you cannot simply scan directly to the cloud from the iX1600 without it first going through software on a local machine running ScanSnap Home.
I am looking to purchase a scanner for receipts. I wish you would go more in-depth in how well the scanner works foe scanning to ocr software and if it is possible to send the data to quick books or an excel spreadsheet. I would also like to see any issues you had with the scanner and software.
Hi there. If you haven't already, please be sure to check out my FAQ videos which may answer more of your questions. As for scanning data to QuickBooks or Excel, it doesn't do it directly but one can make a .CSV file which is something I will be showing in a future video. For this kind of advanced functionality, you may want to look at the fi-8170, for which I also have a review video. As for any issues I have had with the scanner or software, I'm happy to say that I've been using it for years and the only issues I have had have been occasional jams if I try to scan something unusual, like something that is too large to fit in the scanner. Whenever I run into this issue, I can usually scan it on my iX1300. I hope that this information is helpful. 😊
Dear Sean! Thank you so much for your excellent review af the ScanSnap i1600. I just bought one and can not figure out if there is a point in using the scansnap cloud? I can not see you mention that anywhere. I do not understand what the cloud is good for? What does it add? Sincerely, Anders Asp Sweden
Hi Anders. You're welcome. Congratulations on your new purchase. I still love my iX1600. ScanSnap Cloud is certainly not something that you need to use. I do it this way. I made my scan folder a sub-folder in my Microsoft OneDrive folder so that it instantly backups up to the cloud as soon as I scan something. The advantage is twofold: First, I have a backup in case anything ever happens to my main device (PC or laptop). Second, and very useful, I can access my scanned documents through the cloud on my smartphone. If either of these features sound helpful to you, and if you don't already have Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, or some other cloud service, you may want to give ScanSnap Cloud a try. 😊👍☁
I would still have to sort the papers first right? I have many papers in a box all mixed together. I thought the scanner would automaticlally send it to the correct folder.
Hi Marge. Thank you for your question. I think that it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Sorting your papers first would likely give you the best result because you would just be doing one type/style of scan over and over again but the iX1600 can handle scanning mixed documents and detecting what kind of documents they are and giving them appropriate names. I don't believe that there is a function to have the documents automatically be routed to dedicated folders if you scan them all together. For something like that, you'd need to look at a model from the Fujitsu Workgroup series. However, if you pre-sort your documents, for example, into photos, receipts, and documents, and scan them in batches like that using the appropriate profile setting on the iX1600 (the little round icons which says "Business Cards", "Receipts", etc.), then your documents will be scanned to dedicated folders. For example, when you scan your business cards, if you use the "Business Cards" profile, the scans will indeed be saved to a folder called "Receipts". if you use the "Photo Album" profile, the scans will indeed be saved to a folder called "Photos". Etc. Depending on document size being scanned, business card, document, picture, etc., the scanner will try to determine which category the scan belongs to for organization within ScanSnap Home. There are a few options for file naming and it will try to determine the title of the document depends on the placement of wording within the document.
Hi there. That's a great question. I just re-ran the test to confirm (I could not remember). It was double-sided pages, meaning, it did 100 scans in the 70 seconds (both sides of the 50 pieces of paper).
I am not sure how 2 people can use the scanner for documents. In the profile section, is their email or document folder set up? I need a new scanner, but not sure how this part works. If they came to my desk and scanned their documents, how is it directed to either their email or their computer folder? Also, I would appreciate your discount code for the U.S. Many thanks!
Hi Onlyveggies. It depends on how your network is set up but the easiest way that multiple people (even more than 2) can use the scanner is by setting up their own profiles. As I show in my video, as a simple example, on my home network, I have a profile and Chantal also has a profile. When I am in my profile, I can scan to folders, scan to email, etc. When Chantal wants to use the scanner, she access her profile through the touchscreen and then scan however she wants to scan. She can scan to her receipts folder. She can send scans to email. She can scan to pre-configured folders. Etc. Is that helpful? If you plan to use this in an office, you may need to check with your IT person to ensure that there will be no issues with access, security, etc. As for my discount code, it has unfortunately expired. If you take a look at my FAQ video, that's the first question I discuss: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html
Hi Madina. Thanks very much. You're welcome. If you want to see my unboxing video, I show everything that comes in the box: ruclips.net/video/4EC-JsVqrLA/видео.html. As far as I know, plastic carrier sheets were not included. Here is a listing to a 5 pack on Amazon: amzn.to/3LtwiiP. I hope that helps.
Hi Josh. To my knowledge, the iX1600 is part of the ‘ScanSnap series’, which are scanners designed for home, school, and small-business usage. The fi-7140 and fi-7160 are part of the ‘Workgroup series’ which are designed for heavier business usage in medium-sized organizations or for single-department applications. Some of the main differences involve the software (the iX1600 uses ScanSnap Home whereas the Workgroup Series scanners use PaperStream IP), connectivity (the iX1600 can connect by wi-fi or USB cable whereas the Workgroup Series scanners generally don’t offer wireless capabilities), and versatility (the iX1600 is not designed to work with TWAIN/ISIS drivers whereas the Workgroup Series scanners can use these interfaces, can scan directly to third party software, and generally offer greater options in terms of ‘smart scanning’, i.e., detecting document contents, extracting data from scanned documents, sorting/filing scanned documents, and other functions). If you want to learn more about those two scanners in particular, the fi-7140 and the fi-7160, here is a link to the Fujitsu webpage for the Workgroup Series: www.fujitsu.com/ca/en/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/fi/workgroup/
@@SeanDillman would u do a video detailing the difference in software features for the Workspace series of scanners vs the ScanSnap series of scanners? this will help people like me to understand which scanners suits me best. I understand that within the workspace series there are many versions of scanner software (PaperSteam IP vs Vs Capture Vs Capture pro) Given remote work from home, households has started to have more workspaces scopes of work given the large amount of documents we might need to digitalise (:
@@joshau2346 Hi Josh. That’s a great suggestion. Thank you. I hadn’t considered comparing the software, but I should. I’m still in the process of testing the fi-8170 and getting into its software. You’re right that there do seem to be more options for the Workgroup series. I could definitely see how a comparison video would help people understand if what is right for them, the ScanSnap Series or the Workgroup Series. I’ll add this topic to my list of upcoming videos to make. 🙂👍

You didn’t show what happened to the stack of 50 pages. Does the device recognize that they’re different documents? If no, and it’s one huge PDF, does the software allow you to edit the PDF such as splitting it into multiple files or you need to use other software to do that? How does auto-naming documents work?
just wondering about the options on Amazon... one is $449 and another is $479 for 4 yr warranty from Fujitsu, they call it the Depot -- manufacturer's 4-year Depot Warranty wondering if it's worth the extra $$?? thanks for the great video
Hi Don. You are most welcome. Thank you for the question. I suppose that there are a few things to consider here. The first is that ~$30 for a warranty, relative to the ~$450 purchase price on the machine, is not that much money (about 7% of the total). However, we all work hard for our money and it's wise to not spend it needlessly. I’m looking at the 4-year “Depot Protection Program” on the Fujitsu website and it seems to include “spare parts, labor and one-way shipping back to customers for verified hardware failures”: scanners.us.fujitsu.com/services/depot. Where it says “verified hardware failures”, I think that they mean that if you do something to break your scanner, it won’t be covered, and it has to be an actual hardware failure that was not caused by you or anyone else (the machine just broke). I don’t know the full details of the program but like any sort of warranty/protection program, I expect that it will have its exceptions and things that aren’t covered. I’m now looking through the user reviews on Amazon: amzn.to/3WxAjIK. I could only find one reference to the warranty, a user who, on September 9, 2022, said “I am impressed by the warranty and live support, but we have not needed either yet.” I can tell you that I’ve personally owned a few Fujitsu scanners for many, years and I’ve never actually needed service or to replace any parts. However, for $30, it may be worth it. At the end of the day, I think that it’s up to you and it all depends on your situation and how much you think you’ll be using it. If you’ll be scanning a lot, close to the daily duty cycle of 6,000 scans a day, you may want to get the warranty because you’ll know that you’ll be pushing the machine to its limits. If you instead think that you’ll be scanning only a few pages each day, then your scanner may last longer, and you may never need to replace any parts or have any work done within the four-year timeframe. What do you think? Is that helpful?
@@SeanDillman yes very helpful... You went the extra mile and checked out things I probably should have checked out before I asked the question... But now that you mentioned the daily duty cycle of the machine 6000 pages, I will probably only be scanning at most on a busy day 100-250 pages... So I guess I'll pass on the warranty, but for only $30 it seems worth it for 4 years... I'm comparing this to other Fujitsu scanners I've used, and one from Raven which scans only to the cloud... Not even an option to scan to desktop folder for that brand.
Hi @@dons1643 Wonderful. I’m glad that it was helpful. Not at all. I appreciate you asking the question. I hadn’t considered the warranty much in the past. Fujitsu products generally seem to be well-built and dependable, but a good warranty can be worth it if the price is right and if it offers good coverage. If you will be scanning less than 500 pages a day, you are probably safe to not have the warranty, though one never knows what may happen. I am very curious about the Raven scanner and am thinking that I should review it soon so that I know more about how it stacks up to Fujitsu. I have looked at them before, and my friend has one, but I’ve never owned one myself and had an opportunity to examine one closely. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I’m happy to help. 🙂
Hi there. Thank you for your comment. Please excuse the delay in my response. Yes indeed. It can scan legal size. If you'd like more information about the iX1600, I just released a Frequently Asked Questions video : ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html.
Great video Sean. Does your coupon code work on Amazon as well? And how can I get that plz? Also was wondering for the price, are the ix1400 & 1500 ones pretty good for office tasks too and what are the main differences with ix1600?
Hi Payam. Thanks very much. I really appreciate your kind words. I'll talk about the differences between the iX1400, iX1500, and iX1600. To start, the iX1400 is basically the same as the iX1600 except it does not have a touchscreen and it does not connect wirelessly (I believe that it connects only by USB). Instead of using a touchscreen, the iX1400 operates by a single one-touch button approach. The iX1500 and iX1600 are very similar. The iX1600 scans about 30% faster than the iX1500. The iX1500 scan speed is about 30 pages per minute whereas the iX1600 scans at about 40 pages per minute. Fujitsu calls the iX1500 the 'flagship model of the ScanSnap Series' and calls the iX1600 the "evolved flagship model of the ScanSnap series". For the price, I think that any of these would do a great job for you but the iX1600 is the best because it has the best specifications and is the newest model. As for my coupon code with Fujitsu, it has unfortunately expired but I found the best price I could on Amazon and have a link: amzn.to/3Ge7UhM. 🙂
Hello Lawrence. Did you also see my frequently asked questions (FAQ) video? Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html. I made it because I was receiving so many great questions on my review video. The first question I address in the FAQ video is the discount code. Hi there. This unit does not also print. It is purely a scanner, which is a good thing in many respects because it means that it does one thing really well, as opposed to some units which do multiple things but only do them so-so. There are indeed many multi-page scanners that also print. My experience with those units have been with larger office based units, the huge ones with multiple paper trays, fax, flatbed scanning, multi-page feed scanning on the top, etc. There are many different good ones from Canon, Xerox, Brother and HP to name a few. =)
love your review on the ix1600...how does it come to the brother Desktop Document Scanner ADS-3100? I've used an older Brother previously and the feeder often jams documents.
Will it scan both sides of the paper automatically or would I need to manually flip the paper? Most of the material I need to scan has text on the front and back of the sheets. Thank you for your help.
Hi there. Please excuse the delay in my response. The answers are yes and yes! It does both of those things and can detect double-sided print jobs and remove blank pages if a page is not double sided!
Hi Sean, I have the ix1300 and am not really happy with the quality of the scanned photos. Do you have a comparison review on the photo scanning quality between the ix1300 and ix1600? Are the photo scanning software options the same on both of them or are there more features with the ix1600? In your opinion, which is the better model for scanning lots of photos? Thank you.
Hi Heidi. I recently made a video comparing the iX1300 and iX1600 (ruclips.net/video/pgpZ2YqAK_w/видео.html). As for the software options, I believe that they are the same for both scanners and I believe that both scan at 600 DPI (dots per inch) and have the same options for color/photo scanning. As for scanning a lot of photos, I have a view in which I review the iX1300 and in that video I show that I was able to scan a lot of different kinds of photos very quickly. If you are scanning one kind of photo, like a standard 4 x 6 inches, the iX1600 would be the fastest. If you are scanning lots of types of photos, the iX1300 may be the best way to go as the front return scanner can accept almost any kind of photos, as long as it fits in the slot. I love both my iX1300 and iX1600, but when it comes to scanning photos, I usually go with the iX1300.
Hi Sean, thanks for your helpful videos. I am unable to find anyone who can answer this question. 1. Can the scan document be renamed to a text that is recognized through the text recognition? 2. Can the scan document be tagged to a text that is recognized through the text recognition? Thanks much.
Hi patkohkw. You are most welcome. Thank you for watching my videos. Thank you for those questions. For my understanding, I will rephrase your questions. Please let me know if this is accurate. I think that you are asking: 1. If a scanned document can be named based on text within the document which is recognized through the OCR (optical character recognition)? 2. If a document can be tagged based on text within the document which is recognized through the OCR (optical character recognition)? I think that the answer to these questions is 'yes and no' with respect to the iX1600. ScanSnap Home is the software which operates the iX1600. No other kinds of software can be used (people often ask this question so I wanted to be clear on this). However, a scanner like the Fujitsu fi-8170 (I will be releasing a review on this soon), can be used with third-party software. I mention the software because this is the method by which the scanned document file gets its name. ScanSnap Home does have some auto-naming functions in which it will name a document based on text that it has pulled from the scanned document; however, it seems that the text that ScanSnap Home pulls and uses from a document is relatively random. For receipts and documents, it seemingly tries to use the text that is closet to the top of the page. For example, in my video on 'how to scan everything' you will see that I scanned a Starbucks receipt with the words 'Starbucks" at the top of the receipt: ruclips.net/video/fJhZHGGKkyc/видео.html. I used the iX1600 to scan this receipt. ScanSnap Home named the file '20190202_4.15_Starbucks.pdf'. I had to do a little configuring within ScanSnap Home to tell it how I wanted receipt names to be generated, but it was very easy. The auto-generated name is actually pretty good and works well for my purposes (it contains the name of the vendor and the total amount). ScanSnap Home works similarly when scanning standard paperwork, but depending on where the text appears on the page, the automatically generated name may or may not be accurate and useful. With respect to your second question, whether documents can be tagged based on text within the document, ScanSnap Home does allow for tagging documents but I think that this is done through the scanning profile that you select, not through text that is pulled from the document (though I could be wrong about this and ScanSnap Home does have a generic setting in which it will automatically detect the kind of document being scanned and may therefore also automatically tag it). I mentioned the fi-8170 earlier in my response because depending on what your needs are, that kind of scanner, that is in the business line of Fujitsu scanners, offers much greater control over things like [1] naming documents based on text pulled from within the document and [2] interfacing with third-party software (which may allow for greater control over tagging). Thank you again. I very much appreciate your questions and you watching my videos. If you wanted to subscribe to my channel, I would very much appreciate it. Please let me know if my answers are helpful and, if not, we can dig deeper. Have a great day. =)
I watched your video while trying to setup my ScanSnap IX1600 and there were screens that came up on my scanner that you skipped over.. I also had a screen that asked for a "Security Key." I can't find where the Security Key is.. You never mentioned that...
Hi Carolyn. Thank you very much for watching my video. Which screens do you believe that I skipped over? It may be that Fujitsu has changed the software since I made my video. I did not skip any screens that I saw on my end when I made the video. I do not not recall having an issue with a security key when I installed my ScanSnap. Here is the link to a webpage on the Fujitsu ScanSnap Help website entitled "You Do Not Know the Security Key to Connect Directly to the ScanSnap". I hope that this may be helpful: www.pfu.fujitsu.com/imaging/downloads/manual/ss_webhelp/en/help/webhelp/topic/tb_connect_securitykey_howto.html Please let me know if I can provide any other help. 🙂
Hi Kay. No. To use the iX1600 and other Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners, you must use the ScanSnap Home software running on a PC or Mac. Within that software, you can select the "Save to" location and so as long as your predefined folder is showing in the operating system (like through Windows explorer), it will appear as a selectable location. If you are looking for a scanner that can scan to a network drive without needing to use a PC or other device, I understand that Raven scanners are very popular for this application: www.raven.com/pages/raven-scanner.
Hi Miguel! That's awesome. Please excuse my delayed reply. I've been having a busy week. Yes indeed. Please get in touch with me through my website, www.seandillman.com.
Hi Leigh. Thank you for your comment. Please send me an email or message through my website, www.seandillman.com. I can give you all of the info I have there. =)
Hi Salmonoids. If you connect the scanner by Wi-Fi, yes, it can be used on different computers in the same office. One of the computers can use the USB connection, but because there is only one USB port, and because you likely wouldn’t want to move the scanner around and plug and unplug the USB port, I would recommend connecting by Wi-Fi. Once connected by Wi-Fi, it’s easy for other instances of ScanSnap Home to connect to the scanner, assuming that another computer isn’t already connected. To be clear, it can only ever be connected to one computer at a time, but it is easy to switch it from one to another. Does that make sense? 🙂
@@SeanDillman Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, that makes sense. I just want to be sure it is easy to switch from one computer to another. We have 3 computer that need to share one scanner. So you're saying it can be connected via USB to one, and wireless to the other 2. And when we can, we can just let the scanner know which to scan to? And it is easy?
Hi @@salmonoids. That's all correct. Yes it is easy. I use it on my PC at home (by USB) but sometimes I want to connect my laptop to it. Because the PC is connected to it, I just exit ScanSnap Home, open ScanSnap Home on my laptop and then select the scanner in the menu to connect to it. I wonder though, if you are using three scanners in your office, do you think that it may be easier to simply have the scanner connect to one PC and allow everyone in the office to connect to the scanning destination through your network? That is how I was doing it at my office. For example, we had 4 PCs. The scanner was connected to our main reception PC. The scanner scanned to a drive called 'Scans' (and subfolders within for receipts, documents, photos, etc.). Every other PC in the office could access the folder, so, if anyone ever needed to scan, they just did it on the reception PC, to save the need for people to install and open ScanSnap Home on their own PCs. That is possibly something else that may work for you.
The first thing I'd scan with a new iX1600 is my family photos as part of my whole paper declutter project...because my S1300i feeder rollers don't handle anything thicker than paper very well without warping the result (same thing with business cards too).
Hi Monica. You are most welcome. Thank you for your comment. I will basically repeat my answer to a comment from Patricia. In general, I think I wouldn't recommend scanning something with a staple in it because you will likely jam the scanner or possibly damage something inside (sensor, roller wheel, scratch the glass, etc.). This would not be covered under the warranty and would potentially be billable to repair. I think that I have accidentally scanned single documents in the page that may have had a lone staple in the corner but it was always accidental and I always felt fortunate that the scan went through. In general though, I always remove staples before scanning documents. There are a few types of staple removers, fang/toothed and push-type. If you haven't tried the Bostitch push-type, give it a go. I think that it works incredibly well. As for your specific question, 'is there a way that the document does not get jammed', you're taking a risk if you scan a document with a staple in it (particularly if the document is at all precious or fragile).
There are several different ScanSnap IX1600 scanners on Amazon.. Do you have a video on the differences between the 1600 scanners? Or one you would recommend over the other?
9:11 thank you for all your videos. Your presentations are excellent. Would you be able to make one that explains the value of using Adobe Pro and how to use it with Scansnap?
Thank you Sean for the video, I have one question if I have more than 50 papers to scan can I refill the scanner with a second batch of papers and continuos on to the previous batch of scanned papers
Hi Abdullah. You are most welcome. Thank you for your question. I believe that the answer is, yes, you can do that. In the ScanSnap Home software, under the 'Feed' setting, there are three options: Normal Scan, Continuous Scan, and Manual Scan. Under the Continuous Scan setting, it says "Scan documents into multiple batches". Please let me know if you'd like me to run a test and I can confirm for you. I have never used this function myself because I use Adobe Acrobat as my main PDF software. If I ever scan multiple jobs (producing multiple PDF files), I just combine the scans/documents/files into a single PDF using the "Combine Files in Acrobat" function.
Hi Debby. Thank you for asking. From my testing, it seems that the max is 72.00 Pixel Per Inch resolution. The largest color images it can produce seem to be about 3567x2361 Pixels and 1.62MB in size. If a person wants to have ultra-high quality scans of photos, they may need to look at a specialized scanner. However, for everyone else who may just want to be able to scan and share some photos, I think that the iX1600 does a great job.
Hi Zaur. Thank you for your question. I believe so. A4 is 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 in. I have tested using those sizes of paper and yes, it gets both sides. A "Normal Scan" is minimum of 50.8 x 50.8 mm (2 x 2 in.) to a maximum of 216 x 360 mm (8.5 x 14.17 in.). A "Manual Scan" is A3, B4, 279 x 432 mm (11 x 17 in.). A "Long Paper Scan" is for 3,000 mm (863 mm in 32-bit).
Hi Brendon. Thank you for your questions. Scanning to a computer through the iX1600 is done through software called ScanSnap Home. It is free and available through the Fujitsu website. Here is the link: www.fujitsu.com/global/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/soho/sshome/. ScanSnap Home is used to configure the scan profiles (what will be scanned - for example, photos, business cards, receipts, etc.) and users (who will be using the scanner - for example, parents and children in a household setting). ScanSnap Home can also be used to access scanned documents and keep them organized. If you're interested, I posted a video on how to install the software. I will also be posting a video about the best ScanSnap Home settings, the ones that I recommend for each kind of scan job. To answer your question about scanning to a share, it is easy to set up and can be done a few ways. For me, the easiest way to do it is to set the default scan folder in ScanSnap Home to a Microsoft OneDrive folder. Whenever I scan a document, it goes to that folder and is automatically uploaded to OneDrive. If I want to scan documents to a specific shared folder, I can first make the folder in OneDrive and ensure that it is shared with whomever I wish. I would then make a custom profile for that kind of scan job in ScanSnap Home. The process of setting it up is simple and can be done quickly.👍
I think that Fujitsu does@@bbrendon. What kind of a share do you mean exactly? Is it for a Windows environment or Mac? Is it strictly local access network (LAN) share or a cloud-based share?
Perfect. Thank you@@bbrendon. I think that the Fujitsu model we'd be looking at would be the n7100e. Here is the link on the Fujitsu website: www.fujitsu.com/ca/en/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/business/n7100e/. The site says that this model "secures stand-alone network operations" and there is a diagram that shows that it scans directly to a server.
Hi Shiela. You are most welcome. My name is Sean by the way (not Philip). =) In short, I believe that the answer is yes, the iX1600 can scan this size. I have something of a tutorial with respect to this dimension size. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that A3 paper is 297 x 420 mm (11.69 in. x 16.54 in.). This is very similar to ledger paper which is 11 69 in. x 17 69 in. (279.4 mm x 431.8 mm). I recently answered a similar question for someone named Lauren on my FAQ video. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html I believe that my answer to her applies the same to you, though she was asking about whether she could feed multiple sheets through at the same time and whether she would need to use a carrier sheet. I think this is similar to what you are asking about in relation to the A3 size. Here is what I said to Lauren. Please see the link below to the video that I made for her which may also be helpful to you: "Hi Lauren. Thank you for the question. I always try to go the extra mile for my viewers so for you I went down to my local paper shop. They were nice enough to give me a few pieces of ledger paper for free so that I could conduct a test for you. The paper is 11” x 17” and 70lbs stock. I also made a short video for you showing the steps that I went through. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/TxuMFRA1PIU/видео.html. Looking at the paper, it seems that one could either fold over the 17” side to produce a 11” by 8.5” page (17” divided by 2) or one could fold over the 11” side to produce a 5.5” by 17” page (11” divided by 2). I am assuming that you would want to produce a 11” by 8.5” folded-over page, because it seems to make more sense than having a very long and narrow folded piece. The maximum width of the intake feeder on the iX1600 is 8.5”. I ran a test and it worked. However, it seems that it is necessary to go into any given profile, select ‘Option’ next to the Feed box, and then click "multifeed detection" and then set it to ‘none’. By default, mine was set to ‘check overlap [Ultrasonic]’. I believe that this setting needs to be disabled because by default the iX1600 will detect if there are two layers of paper going through simultaneously, either two pieces being pulled at the same time, or one piece of paper folded over. This is not something that someone wants ordinarily. It is usually an error if two pieces go through at once. However, in our case, we want to do something out of the ordinary and this is indeed what we want, so we need to disable this setting. Ideally this is helpful to you. I was curious to see if it would work and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it does. The iX1600 really is a powerful machine. To conclude and directly answer your question, I make no guarantees but based on my test, I believe that the answer is yes, you can send a stack of folded 11x17 sheets through the automatic feed without needing to use carrier sheets." Thank you for checking with me about this Shiela. Please let me know if this is helpful and if it answers your question.
If I were to feed it a range of various documents would it automatically create split pdfs? E.g. a 2-sheet bill will be saved as a single pdf with 4 pages and 3-sheet letter will be saved as a seperate 6 page PDF?
Hi Serdar. That's a good question. I don't believe that it has the programming to select out the documents and batch them together in one part of the PDF (as you are describing). To achieve something like this, you would need to look at something from the Fujitsu Workgroup series. However, to achieve the effect with this unit, you could just batch the documents yourself, i.e., place all of your business cards first, receipts second, and 8.5/11" last. I appreciate that this would defeat the point of what you are trying to achieve (not having to manually sort documents) but I think that is what you would need to do to make it happen with the iX1600. The iX1600 does not know how many pages each invoice is, so it would scan as one PDF if you scanned multiple (different number of page) invoices. However, if you put in multiple pages, you can tell the scanner to create a new PDF after scanning so many pages, for example, after 3 pages, create new PDF.
Hey Sean! Thanks for this review. I have some questions too: I've got the ScanSnap iX500 for a while and I'm not happy with the ScanSnap-software: I use the scanner mostly to scan documents (PDF), and I find that the files are too big (in comparation with a "big" printer/scanner in my office). With the older ScanSnap-software (not ScanSnap Home) I found a few settings that give me an acceptable size and an acceptable quality. Some of these settings aren't possible with the ScanSnap Home software anymore, so I can't use ScanSnap Home. For me its absolutely necessary to get small files without re-size them (PDF/A). Now my questions: Do you know if there is a possibility to get really small files without lack of quality, similar to a "big" printer/scanner in an office? I thought, that this must be only a software problem, or its the hardware too? Are there any differences in scan-quality and/or PDF-file-size between iX500 and iX1600 (both using ScanSnap Home and the same settings)? With the iX500, I can't scan with Acrobat Pro (XI), the programm doesn't find the scanner. Do you know if that is possible with the iX1600 and/or the Acrobat Pro DC? Do you know a document scanner, whose software/hardware gives me similar PDF-files like the "big" printer/scanner? Sorry for my English, I hope you understand the description and the questions. Thank you for your answer! Best regards, Michael
Hi Michael. Please excuse my delay in getting back to you. Those are great questions. Because I have so much to say, I responded to your question in a new Q&A video that I made today. Please take a look. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/iaHO51eywcM/видео.html. I address your question at the 7:37 point.
Hi @@michaelwolf8952. You are most welcome. I finished my unboxing video for the fi-8170 so I thought that I may as well post it now. No reason to wait. As for the review video, I'm still doing the testing and scripting. If you like, I can get in touch with you and let you know when I post the review. It should be next month. 🙂
I was wondering if this scanner comes with software native to the scanner or software that you can load on your computer to do the OCR even if you do not have a internet connection. If you have a separate review of just the software that would be really helpful.
Hi Philip. That's an interesting question. I also did an unboxing video for this unit which shows what comes in the box. It does not come with any CD, DVD, USB or any other kind of media which contains software. The software must initially be downloaded online (so an internet connection would be needed for the initial setup). However, once the software is downloaded and installed, I don't think that an internet connection is required (because you can simply connect the unit to your computer using the USB cable). If that doesn't answer your question, please send me a message and I'll be happy to provide any further information I have. I don't have a review of the software but I have added that to my list of review videos to make in the future. Thank you for suggesting it. Much appreciated.
Hi Krishan. You bet it does. Please check out the section at around 8:25 (ruclips.net/video/Po4klbKyRVI/видео.html). The grocery store points card that I use is the same thickness as a credit card. Naturally, I didn't want to use any of my own credit cards for the demo. =)

Excellent presentation! I love the fact that you go straight to the point, yet deep into detail, making your videos very pleasant to watch. thank you for a job well done!
That is a totally unique comment that I can't remember getting before so thank you so so much! 😊
I would finally scan the many boxes of important documents sitting in the closet! A relief to have them gone, and have them safely backed up!
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Thank you for that Soldon. Scanners are definitely a great tool for realtors. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
I found the answer to some of my questions below. I still have some questions though. I will just put the answer with it to help others.)
In a previous comment, someone didn't like the quality of photo scans.
(closest I found was that some scanners with OCR can put the amount in the filename)
You mention you have a promo code but you also have an Amazon link. Are we supposed to just use Amazon now and not the code? (found the answer in an email from you... use Amazon link)
I love that you talked about the dust feature... It might seem small but it is important.
Are you a lawyer? Do you have a video on what we still need to keep as a paper copy vs shredding/tossing after scanning? (Yes to being a lawyer)
Can we get an OCR version and the original at the same time? I want to keep the original in case there is an error with the OCR.
I am sorry for posting so many questions... I am a newbie
Thanks for your help!
Thanks Sean. Very helpful seeing all the settings and options! Can't wait to get rid of 99% of all the paper in my life!

Sean, great video. I am looking to buy this scanner today. Is there still a discount code?
Good morning Barbara. Thank you for getting in touch. I'm glad that you want to buy the scanner. My code with Fujitsu has unfortunately expired but I found the best price I could on Amazon and have a link: amzn.to/3Ge7UhM. For my channel subscribers, I offer ongoing support and have colleagues who work at Fujitsu. If there is ever anything I don’t know, I have direct access to the engineering department (the people who design and build these units) to answer all of my viewers’ questions. If you buy the iX1600, let me know. I'd love to know what you think. 🙂
This is a quality review! I didn't expect that you only have a few hundred subscribers.
Hi there. Thank you you very much for your comment. I really appreciate it. Ideally some day I will have more subscribers but for now, I'm grateful for every one I have. =)
I bought one a while ago and am just now about to set it up. Thanks for the very helpful review Sean! Much appreciated 👍
You are very welcome. Let me know how it goes. I use mine almost every day. 😊👍
the first thing i would scan with a new iX1600 is my receipts and educational papers. It will help me keep my office so much more organized.
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Thanks for digging into details, Sean. My question is if the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600 can add page numbers to each page being scanned.
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
I would like to say that the editing in the video and quality is really good! Thanks for making this video.
Thank you very much for that comment. That really makes my day and I appreciate it. =)
@@SeanDillman Hi Sean are promo codes still availablwe for the Scan Snap Xi 1600?
Hi@@dhc6969. Thanks for commenting. It is for people in Canada. Please see the link in the comment section. If you are outside of Canada, I will be adding my Amazon referral program link soon but it would simply be for the regular, market rate. No discount unfortunately.
Very helpful. I graduated from a 1500 and love the features.
The review is excellent to show it is a worthy affordable scanner to my office use. So happy I found your video. It is very helpful that you showed the steps in setting it up.
Thank you for letting me know Berte. I appreciate the feedback. That is an excellent description. I use my iX1600 all the time and love it.
Thank you Sean. Very helpful. Just setting the unit up.
You're welcome Arthur. I hope that you enjoy it. It's a great product. Mine is working just as well as ever. 😊👍
Great vid! Does it work with an M chip Mac?
Thanks Jesus! It will depend on your operating system. I'm seeing from the download page (www.pfu-apac.ricoh.com/ph/scanners/scansnap/ix1600/) that it is compatible with "macOS Mojave 10.14 or later". I can't say for sure but I assume that it would work with your version. These machines are all current. 😊
Thanks!!@@SeanDillman
I am using the Fujitsu iX1600. I have learned a lot from your videos. I was using the iX500. I like the old Scansnap receipts software. The new Scansnap Home does not have the same features as the old software. It is a lot more difficult to tally up the receipts.
Do you think the old can be used for a few more years if bought new or on good condition, to use with mac or pc ?
Hi Sean, I like your review and decided to get the ix1600. Do you still have the promo code?

Thank you! Does it OCR receipts storing date and amounts?
Hi Poka. Yes it does. You can configure the receipt scanning to pull out specific information like the date, vendor name, and amount. 😊👍
It does. But accuracy at pulling that information is horrid compared to even a cheap Brother portable battery powered receipt scanner. But all other features are light years ahead.
@@ILruffian Thanks so much
@@ILruffian Thank you
@@sisteradmnAnytime.
First thing I would scan with my ScanSnap iX1600 is my files of invoices for the last 8 years to free up space and clean my office!!
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
thanks for this vdo. actually i was confuse between epson & fujitsu for network scanner.thanks once again.
Hi Shailesh. You are most welcome. Please let me know if you need any more information. =)
Bro thank you for this , I was looking to get a scanner but have no idea wich one , thank you i will get this one !
You are most welcome Harold. Thank you for your comment. I hope that you won't need to look any further than this scanner. =)
Thank you for your great and helpful videos!
You are most welcome Tammie! I'm glad you think so. 😊
excellent review Sean thank you
You are most welcome jily. Thank you for commenting. 😊
The first thing I'd scan, if I won this, would be all of my mom's old photos so we'd never lose them! ❤
Thank you for that Allison. That's a great reason to want to win a scanner. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Hy Sean. I have two questions:
Here is the RUclips link: ruclips.net/video/dirvU7Attw4/видео.html
You convince me to buy and use the device for my business. Thank you
You are most welcome Bruno. If you are going to buy it from Amazon, I would be grateful if you used my Amazon link (included in the video description area). I hope that you are having a Happy New Year's Eve!

@@SeanDillman Update: ordered a unit and it has made my life so much easier.
Got two more units for the office. This stuff is a beast.
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Can u also compare scansnap 1600 with Brother ADS 3100 too? The ADS seems cheaper with very similar features.
Hi Josh. That's a great idea. I just added it to my future video list. However, one big difference I already know about is that the ADS-3100 doesn't have a touchscreen, though I believe that the ADS-3300W does. 😊
Thank you! Your video helped me to decided on purchasing this scanner.. I would love to get the coupon code
Hi Antonetteinbk. Please excuse the delay in me responding. I have been updating my website and working on a new one and it took longer than anticipated (it always seems to).
Thx for the very clear intro to Ix1600.Can it do document scanning in bulk n not by paper by paper?
Hey Sean ... we are using some of your videos for home school classes - we love your content. How do we contact you to get that discount code ... very interested in using for our home business as well.
Hi there. That is wonderful. I'm glad that you are using my videos for that purpose. That's wonderful. =) Please just send me an email through my website, www.seandillman.com/contact/. 🙂
Hi Sean, how do I set the paper to scan with the document facing me?. Exactly the same way you demonstrated in the video.
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Besides ScanSnap Home software, is there a ScanSnap Receipt Software?? Specifically for Receipts?
I have the iX500 scanner which works great. I am wondering if it is worth upgrading to the iX1600?
Hi Keith. I'm glad that you're having a great experience with the iX500. The iX1600 offers some higher scanning speeds and the great touchscreen that the iX500 doesn't have. How long have you had your iX500?
hello, thanks for the review. i want to ask, is it have OCR technology or searchable for pdf file ?
Thank you very much for the review!! Very clear and understandable… !
You are most welcome Cynthia. I'm glad that you think so. I hope it helped. 😊👍
Looks great, great info/ review!(as usual Sean)
Thank you David. Please let me know if you need any more information.
Great review but was the speed test based on double sided pages?
Hi Sean. Great review! Thanks! Does this model comes with plastic carrier sheet for fragile documents?
Hi whats the difference between ix1600 and fi7140/fi7160 (:
I understand that within the workspace series there are many versions of scanner software (PaperSteam IP vs Vs Capture Vs Capture pro)
Given remote work from home, households has started to have more workspaces scopes of work given the large amount of documents we might need to digitalise (:
@@joshau2346 Hi Josh. That’s a great suggestion. Thank you. I hadn’t considered comparing the software, but I should. I’m still in the process of testing the fi-8170 and getting into its software. You’re right that there do seem to be more options for the Workgroup series. I could definitely see how a comparison video would help people understand if what is right for them, the ScanSnap Series or the Workgroup Series. I’ll add this topic to my list of upcoming videos to make. 🙂👍
I have been trying to decide what scanner to buy to replace my Neat scanner. I think I've found it thanks to your helpful video. How do we get in touch with you for the discount code?
Hi Tammie. I am glad that you found my video to be helpful. If you need any other information, please don't hesitate to get in touch. The first thing I'd scan with a new iX1600 is my work notes. I always jot handwritten notes as I work on any given task. I'd be scanning these notes and then attaching the scanned notes to my daily journal for reference.
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
In another video comment thread you mention a coupon for the scanner if someone messages you. How do I message you? Thrilled to have found your channel, BTW!!
Hi Kelly! Please excuse the delay in my response. Just visit my website at www.seandillman.com. As I mention to users in my email, my coupon has unfortunately expired. 🙁
Sean, I am a mobile notary and need to be able to connect wirelessly quickly when making home visits. Is that possible with this scanner?
1 Question it can scan legal size?

Does this print also? It looks like it does not. Is there a multi page scanner that ALSO prints?
Thanks for the review. Very helpful.
Will it scan both sides of the paper automatically or would I need to manually flip the paper? Most of the material I need to scan has text on the front and back of the sheets. Thank you for your help.
Hi Sean,
Does this scanner do a duplex scan? And does it automatically detect a double side printed paper to scan ?
I think that you are asking:
Can you scan and output to network storage or cloud without requiring a PC, laptop, or phone with the Scansnap Home software to be turned on?
Hi Kay.

Can this scanner scan to different computers in the same office? Or just one?
This may help. We will try it. Thanks.
Sounds good @@salmonoids. You are most welcome. 🙂
The first thing I'd scan with a new iX1600 is my family photos as part of my whole paper declutter project...because my S1300i feeder rollers don't handle anything thicker than paper very well without warping the result (same thing with business cards too).
Thank you for that. You're entered into the giveaway. Good luck! 😊
Thanks for the video. Please, when there are many documents, and one of them has a stapler hook, is there a way that the document does not get jammed?
@@SeanDillman Thank you!
I am looking to copy my journal book. Is there a scanner that you can recommend to scan pages from a book?
How is the resolution for photos??
@@SeanDillman Thank you Sean. Just finished purchasing on Amazon.
Does it scan both side of A4 document?
A "Long Paper Scan" is for 3,000 mm (863 mm in 32-bit).
how does scanning to a computer work from the scanner? do you need a program running on the computer or does it just save to a share?
@@SeanDillman Do you know if Fujitsu makes a scanner that will scan to a share?
I think that Fujitsu does@@bbrendon. What kind of a share do you mean exactly? Is it for a Windows environment or Mac? Is it strictly local access network (LAN) share or a cloud-based share?
@@SeanDillman Like a Windows file share. e.g. \\server\sharename
Hi philip thanks for the review. Can you scan an A3 paper with this? Or do you have tutorial on scanning with this dimension size? Thanks in advance 😊
Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html
I believe that my answer to her applies the same to you, though she was asking about whether she could feed multiple sheets through at the same time and whether she would need to use a carrier sheet. I think this is similar to what you are asking about in relation to the A3 size. Here is what I said to Lauren. Please see the link below to the video that I made for her which may also be helpful to you:
"Hi Lauren. To conclude and directly answer your question, I make no guarantees but based on my test, I believe that the answer is yes, you can send a stack of folded 11x17 sheets through the automatic feed without needing to use carrier sheets."
Thank you for checking with me about this Shiela.
Now my questions:
Do you know if there is a possibility to get really small files without lack of quality, similar to a "big" printer/scanner in an office?
Hi Sean, many thanks for your answer! Did you do a review video for the fi-8170? I only found an unboxing video...
Best regards, Michael
Does the software allow you to password protect the documents?
Hi Sean ,Can it scan credit cards?
Hi Krishan. You bet it does. Please check out the section at around 8:25 (ruclips.net/video/Po4klbKyRVI/видео.html). The grocery store points card that I use is the same thickness as a credit card. Naturally, I didn't want to use any of my own credit cards for the demo. =)
