I had a spontaneous pneumothorax in July & then a second one just a month later in August. I am a 71 y/o woman & overweight so it’s not all young tall males. After the first they told me I had about a 50% chance of it happening again & it did. The second time they inserted a larger chest tube & decided to do a pleurodesis. It’s October 1st tomorrow & it seems to be going well. Psychologically, though, it’s been very stressful because I keep worrying that it will happen again. It’s also taking me a long time to regain my strength as it was prior to this all happening. I’m in the US & I was very fortunate to be in a teaching hospital in a major city & the teams of doctors were outstanding. The most painful part of the entire stay (1st: 4 days, 2nd: 7 days) were the chest tubes. I received good meds for the pleurodesis & didn’t feel that it was as painful as I had been warned. If you have any symptoms of chest pain or shortness of breath get yourself to an ER immediately. This is a serious condition & nothing to be ignored.

I will be scanning my business receipts and paperwork to help me with my year end tax preparation and to be able to find a specific page of information easily instead of trying to remember when and where the paper was filed. ( Laugh!! )

Hi Sean. I have a question. I'm interested in scanning textbooks, and then OCR'ing them to rip the text off the page. I have some questions about this. In this effort, I see a couple of scenarios. I'd like to know how the IX1600 fares with these. First, let's answer the question ... is this OCR done by the IX1600 alone, or is the OCR done by software such as ABBY Fine Reader? And does the IX1600 have any hardware features built in that has to be there to allow the OCR to be done? In other words, I can't buy just any page scanner ... I have to buy a scanner that has "xxxx" hardware function to make it happen .... "xxxx" is replaced with the name of the technology a scanner must have. Second, is OCR the main way that you rip the text from the scanned document? Are there other technologies that could do this? Third, I would like to scan standard pleasure books (no diagrams, just text), and possibly textbooks, where diagrams are involved. I know it won't even be easy to do the first type because even at a minimum there are chapter headings, table of contents, and sometimes indexes. So I'm wondering how the ScanSnap does with these. Once again, I'm assuming the accuracy of ripping the text is not so dependent on the scanner itself, but will mainly depend on the sophistication of the OCR software used to post-process the scanned documents. Can you provide any insights as to what OCR software to use to recognize these tyese types of text structures? What I'm really going for here is to understand what part the scanner plays in this and what part must be performed by post-processing by a third-party OCR software. Or, is it all built into the ScanSnap scanner and/or the scanner and the ScanSnap software, If you have insights, Id sure like to know, and thanks.

there is no option button on my scansnap software. Was this removed? I really need this since I have loads of documents that I want as single files and just pop in.

Hi Sean ... if I won, the first thing I'd scan would be receipts to automate my checkbook processing. As you pointed out in your "tally" video", I'd export the receipt data to CSV and import to Excel. Hopefully this would save me time. I think the scanner could also be useful for scanning sheet music and textbooks to PDF format. I'm assuming from what I've seen in the videos that to scan pages such as these, you simply take the receipt adapter off and then you can scan full 8 1/2 X 11 pages. Since I'm interested in scanning textbooks and music, can you confirm the process I'm thinking about? Take the book to an Office Depot (or similar type store) and have them cut the spine off Use the scanner to scan the pages and create a PDF with the scanned pages. For the textbooks, I'd like the PDFs to be readable/accessible to other software (I don't want unreadable graphics pages/images in the PDF). Can you tell me .. would I need to use a program such as Adobe to "post-process" the PDFs once they are created by the ScanSnap? Thanks for posting all the videos on the ScanSnap. They've been very informative.

Hi Sean ... I've been looking for a way to automate entering receipt information for processing my checkbook. I saw your first video on Tallying receipts and that really got me interested in using the IX1600. This video is even better since you can export right from the ScanSnap software. I'm DEFINITELY interested in automating my receipt processing and the ScanSnap may be the very machine for me!! Great video. I'm going to enter the contest and hopefully I can win an IX1600. And even if I don't, it looks like with this video the ScanSnap is a definite contender to help me save time.

I really like the features on the ScanSnap. I have loads of documents, receipts, photos that need scanned. The various locations my estate work requires makes the ix1600 my take along tool.

Nope, tried to download this multiple times. Never loads Iprint & Scan which I easily downloaded on my old pc. This new bloated software never installs Iprint & Scan. It only downloads Brother Creative Center. I don't need that, just Iprint & Scan. Can I just transfer from my old computer hd?

I was watching a video where notepad came up and I was immediately reminded of how bad my experience’s been with Notepad, leading me to try and research a case being made in its favor.
