    The software on desktop is MUCH better than I expected. In my experience, Japanese hardware companies can’t do software very well. Brother and Canon software is often terrible. Great review, thanks so much. I’m going to buy one here in the UK within the next 12 months.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your comment. My experience is also that the desktop software works well. It does everything I need it to do and I've never had an issue with it. Some people want it to offer advanced functions (like interfacing through TWAIN or other drivers or auto-totaling receipts and auto-sorting documents within a single scan job) but I think that for the market that it is designed for (home, school, and small business) it does a great job. =)

    I found the answer to some of my questions below. I still have some questions though. I will just put the answer with it to help others.)
    In a previous comment, someone didn't like the quality of photo scans. You replied that some people might need a specialized scanner. What scanner do you recommend? How close does the iX1600 come to the original photo quality?
    What can the Adobe software do that we can't do without it? I am trying to decide if I should get the model with the software.
    If you scan a receipt, can it add it to a spreadsheet or something? (closest I found was that some scanners with OCR can put the amount in the filename)
    You mention you have a promo code but you also have an Amazon link. Are we supposed to just use Amazon now and not the code? (found the answer in an email from you... use Amazon link)
    I love that you talked about the dust feature... It might seem small but it is important.
    Are you a lawyer? Do you have a video on what we still need to keep as a paper copy vs shredding/tossing after scanning? (Yes to being a lawyer)
    Can we get an OCR version and the original at the same time? I want to keep the original in case there is an error with the OCR.
    I am sorry for posting so many questions... I am a newbie
    Thanks for your help!

    Great video, thanks for posting. A couple of questions. How does the scanner know where to place the file? It just says folder, and what if I want multiple subfolders like taxes, receipts, healthcare documents, etc. Can the scanner put items in the right place? And second, will I be able to search from my computer for, say 2018 taxes, and have it find the scanned document? And finally, can I plug in a stand-alone hard drive and have the scanner push the scans directly to it? Thanks!

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Ken. You are most welcome. Thank you for those three questions.
      Answer to question one. There are a few ways. Depending on the scanning profile you use, the iX1600 will automatically save certain types of documents to certain folders. For example, photos to a folder called ‘photos’, Receipts to a folder called ‘receipts’, etc. If you know that you will be scanning a lot of healthcare or tax documents, you can make a custom profile for those kinds of documents and optimize the scan quality and folder location for those types of documents (this is easy to do). Alternately, you can simply scan using the ‘Scan to Folder’ profile. This will allow you to select where you want to save it after every scan (also easy to do). In general, yes. There are numerous ways to sort scans as they are being scanned or just after they are scanned.
      Answer to question two. Yes. If you use the ScanSnap home application, the search functionality is quite robust. Assuming that your documents have been appropriately filed into correct folders (and you may want to take the extra step of giving them precise names), you should be able to easily find the documents (though searching for historical documents can be tricky sometimes). Depending on the naming conventions you have used, searching for ‘2018 tax’ or ‘tax 2018’ should do it.
      Answer to question three. That is a very interesting question. I am not certain, but I strongly doubt that it can directly access a hard drive to save the data. Although the document is scanned and processed locally on the scanner, I believe that the iX1600 then relies either on an operating system (Windows or Mac) or a cloud service (ScanSnap Cloud) to be the intermediary to store the scanned document. If a standalone hard drive was connected to the iX1600, I don’t believe that there would be any ‘smarts’ anywhere to get the file onto the hard drive and into the right place. I know some people at Fujitsu and will make a note to ask them about this. I could test it with my own unit but I’m fairly confident that it won’t work, and I don’t want to risk damaging my iX1600 or a hard drive. I’m not sure what concern/desire is behind your question but, if it’s helpful, you can scan from the iX1600 without it being connected to a computer and scan directly to the cloud. I never plug my iX1600 into my computer anymore. I scan from the iX1600 directly to the cloud through my PC or Smartphone. It works like a charm. =)

    Hi Sean, how do I set the paper to scan with the document facing me?. Exactly the same way you demonstrated in the video.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад

      Hi there. Good question. I believe that I simply scan everything in duplex, meaning that it scans both sides, so that it makes no difference which side I scan. I keep the "Blank Page Removal" option on so that even if it does scan a blank side, I don't see it. If it does end up scanning a side with little or no data, I just delete that page in the PDF. If you do it this way, keep in mind that the page facing you will be scanned last so you will need to consider your page order. For example, if you have three documents, and you want them to be scanned in the order of 1, 2, 3, then you will want the last page to be facing you, not the first. If you use the non-duplex mode, you can place the documents facing away from you in the order of 1, 2, 3 (meaning, the bottom document will be scanned first and the correct order will be preserved).

    I was wondering if this scanner comes with software native to the scanner or software that you can load on your computer to do the OCR even if you do not have a internet connection. If you have a separate review of just the software that would be really helpful.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  3 года назад

      Hi Philip. That's an interesting question. I also did an unboxing video for this unit which shows what comes in the box. It does not come with any CD, DVD, USB or any other kind of media which contains software. The software must initially be downloaded online (so an internet connection would be needed for the initial setup). However, once the software is downloaded and installed, I don't think that an internet connection is required (because you can simply connect the unit to your computer using the USB cable). If that doesn't answer your question, please send me a message and I'll be happy to provide any further information I have. I don't have a review of the software but I have added that to my list of review videos to make in the future. Thank you for suggesting it. Much appreciated.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Год назад +1

      Hi Shiela. You are most welcome. My name is Sean by the way (not Philip). =) In short, I believe that the answer is yes, the iX1600 can scan this size. I have something of a tutorial with respect to this dimension size.
      Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that A3 paper is 297 x 420 mm (11.69 in. x 16.54 in.). This is very similar to ledger paper which is 11 69 in. x 17 69 in. (279.4 mm x 431.8 mm).
      I recently answered a similar question for someone named Lauren on my FAQ video. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html
      I believe that my answer to her applies the same to you, though she was asking about whether she could feed multiple sheets through at the same time and whether she would need to use a carrier sheet. I think this is similar to what you are asking about in relation to the A3 size. Here is what I said to Lauren. Please see the link below to the video that I made for her which may also be helpful to you:
      "Hi Lauren. Thank you for the question. I always try to go the extra mile for my viewers so for you I went down to my local paper shop. They were nice enough to give me a few pieces of ledger paper for free so that I could conduct a test for you. The paper is 11” x 17” and 70lbs stock. I also made a short video for you showing the steps that I went through. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/TxuMFRA1PIU/видео.html. Looking at the paper, it seems that one could either fold over the 17” side to produce a 11” by 8.5” page (17” divided by 2) or one could fold over the 11” side to produce a 5.5” by 17” page (11” divided by 2). I am assuming that you would want to produce a 11” by 8.5” folded-over page, because it seems to make more sense than having a very long and narrow folded piece. The maximum width of the intake feeder on the iX1600 is 8.5”. I ran a test and it worked. However, it seems that it is necessary to go into any given profile, select ‘Option’ next to the Feed box, and then click "multifeed detection" and then set it to ‘none’. By default, mine was set to ‘check overlap [Ultrasonic]’. I believe that this setting needs to be disabled because by default the iX1600 will detect if there are two layers of paper going through simultaneously, either two pieces being pulled at the same time, or one piece of paper folded over. This is not something that someone wants ordinarily. It is usually an error if two pieces go through at once. However, in our case, we want to do something out of the ordinary and this is indeed what we want, so we need to disable this setting. Ideally this is helpful to you. I was curious to see if it would work and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it does. The iX1600 really is a powerful machine. To conclude and directly answer your question, I make no guarantees but based on my test, I believe that the answer is yes, you can send a stack of folded 11x17 sheets through the automatic feed without needing to use carrier sheets."
      Thank you for checking with me about this Shiela. Please let me know if this is helpful and if it answers your question.

    Great video Sean. Does your coupon code work on Amazon as well? And how can I get that plz? Also was wondering for the price, are the ix1400 & 1500 ones pretty good for office tasks too and what are the main differences with ix1600?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Год назад +2

      Hi Payam. Thanks very much. I really appreciate your kind words. I'll talk about the differences between the iX1400, iX1500, and iX1600.
      To start, the iX1400 is basically the same as the iX1600 except it does not have a touchscreen and it does not connect wirelessly (I believe that it connects only by USB). Instead of using a touchscreen, the iX1400 operates by a single one-touch button approach.
      The iX1500 and iX1600 are very similar. The iX1600 scans about 30% faster than the iX1500. The iX1500 scan speed is about 30 pages per minute whereas the iX1600 scans at about 40 pages per minute. Fujitsu calls the iX1500 the 'flagship model of the ScanSnap Series' and calls the iX1600 the "evolved flagship model of the ScanSnap series".
      For the price, I think that any of these would do a great job for you but the iX1600 is the best because it has the best specifications and is the newest model.
      As for my coupon code with Fujitsu, it has unfortunately expired but I found the best price I could on Amazon and have a link: amzn.to/3Ge7UhM. For my channel subscribers, I offer ongoing support and have colleagues who work at Fujitsu. If there is ever anything I don’t know, I have direct access to the engineering department (the people who design and build these units) to answer all of my viewers’ questions. If you buy the iX1600, let me know. I'd love to know what you think. 🙂

      @SeanDillman  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Anders. You're welcome. Congratulations on your new purchase. I still love my iX1600. ScanSnap Cloud is certainly not something that you need to use. I do it this way. I made my scan folder a sub-folder in my Microsoft OneDrive folder so that it instantly backups up to the cloud as soon as I scan something. The advantage is twofold: First, I have a backup in case anything ever happens to my main device (PC or laptop). Second, and very useful, I can access my scanned documents through the cloud on my smartphone. If either of these features sound helpful to you, and if you don't already have Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, or some other cloud service, you may want to give ScanSnap Cloud a try. 😊👍☁

      Hi Abdullah. You are most welcome. Thank you for your question. I believe that the answer is, yes, you can do that. In the ScanSnap Home software, under the 'Feed' setting, there are three options: Normal Scan, Continuous Scan, and Manual Scan. Under the Continuous Scan setting, it says "Scan documents into multiple batches". Please let me know if you'd like me to run a test and I can confirm for you. I have never used this function myself because I use Adobe Acrobat as my main PDF software. If I ever scan multiple jobs (producing multiple PDF files), I just combine the scans/documents/files into a single PDF using the "Combine Files in Acrobat" function.

    Hi Sean I want to ask you one question before I get the code from you and purchase the scanner. Does this scanner automatically detect the content and then file to a file that becomes completely searchable? The old model of my Scansnap scanned It to a PDF that then I had to type in a name for to make it searchable. How does this compare?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад

      Hi Joan. Yes it does. It comes with software called ScanSnap home (www.fujitsu.com/global/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/soho/sshome/) which stores scanned files as Searchable PDF documents (depending on how you set it up using your different profiles). From what you are describing, I wonder if you were using your ScanSnap to scan your document and then using Adobe Acrobat to make the document searchable (I have had the same experience that when you start searching for something in Adobe - if it is not already searchable - it will ask if you want to make the document searchable). It is also a priority for me that my scanners make documents searchable right away when they are scanned (so that I don't need to do anything later to make them searchable). I think that Fujitsu is well aware that people want this functionality and it is indeed built in.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад +1

      Hi Monica. You are most welcome. Thank you for your comment. I will basically repeat my answer to a comment from Patricia. In general, I think I wouldn't recommend scanning something with a staple in it because you will likely jam the scanner or possibly damage something inside (sensor, roller wheel, scratch the glass, etc.). This would not be covered under the warranty and would potentially be billable to repair. I think that I have accidentally scanned single documents in the page that may have had a lone staple in the corner but it was always accidental and I always felt fortunate that the scan went through. In general though, I always remove staples before scanning documents. There are a few types of staple removers, fang/toothed and push-type. If you haven't tried the Bostitch push-type, give it a go. I think that it works incredibly well. As for your specific question, 'is there a way that the document does not get jammed', you're taking a risk if you scan a document with a staple in it (particularly if the document is at all precious or fragile).

    Hey Sean! Thanks for this review. I have some questions too: I've got the ScanSnap iX500 for a while and I'm not happy with the ScanSnap-software: I use the scanner mostly to scan documents (PDF), and I find that the files are too big (in comparation with a "big" printer/scanner in my office). With the older ScanSnap-software (not ScanSnap Home) I found a few settings that give me an acceptable size and an acceptable quality. Some of these settings aren't possible with the ScanSnap Home software anymore, so I can't use ScanSnap Home. For me its absolutely necessary to get small files without re-size them (PDF/A). Now my questions:
    Do you know if there is a possibility to get really small files without lack of quality, similar to a "big" printer/scanner in an office? I thought, that this must be only a software problem, or its the hardware too?
    Are there any differences in scan-quality and/or PDF-file-size between iX500 and iX1600 (both using ScanSnap Home and the same settings)?
    With the iX500, I can't scan with Acrobat Pro (XI), the programm doesn't find the scanner. Do you know if that is possible with the iX1600 and/or the Acrobat Pro DC?
    Do you know a document scanner, whose software/hardware gives me similar PDF-files like the "big" printer/scanner?
    Sorry for my English, I hope you understand the description and the questions.
    Thank you for your answer!
    Best regards, Michael

    I would still have to sort the papers first right? I have many papers in a box all mixed together. I thought the scanner would automaticlally send it to the correct folder.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад

      Hi Marge. Thank you for your question. I think that it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Sorting your papers first would likely give you the best result because you would just be doing one type/style of scan over and over again but the iX1600 can handle scanning mixed documents and detecting what kind of documents they are and giving them appropriate names. I don't believe that there is a function to have the documents automatically be routed to dedicated folders if you scan them all together. For something like that, you'd need to look at a model from the Fujitsu Workgroup series. However, if you pre-sort your documents, for example, into photos, receipts, and documents, and scan them in batches like that using the appropriate profile setting on the iX1600 (the little round icons which says "Business Cards", "Receipts", etc.), then your documents will be scanned to dedicated folders. For example, when you scan your business cards, if you use the "Business Cards" profile, the scans will indeed be saved to a folder called "Receipts". if you use the "Photo Album" profile, the scans will indeed be saved to a folder called "Photos". Etc. Depending on document size being scanned, business card, document, picture, etc., the scanner will try to determine which category the scan belongs to for organization within ScanSnap Home. There are a few options for file naming and it will try to determine the title of the document depends on the placement of wording within the document.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Год назад +2

      Hi Dodge. Thanks for your questions. Let’s take them one-by-one.
      1. Yes and no. If you don’t have wi-fi, the only other option is to connect to the iX1600 by USB cable. There is no ethernet network cable slot. However, ethernet cable connections are standard on many scanners in the Workgroup series including the Fujitsu fi-8170. I’m in the process of making a review video for this scanner. It isn’t ready yet but if you’re interested, I did finish the unboxing video. Here is the RUclips link: ruclips.net/video/dirvU7Attw4/видео.html
      2. Yes. The iX1600 offers automatic duplex (double-sided) scanning, assuming that you’ve enabled it in whatever scanning profile you are using, which is very easy to control and enable for each profile: document scanning, photo scanning, receipt scanning, business card scanning, and any other profiles that you may want to set up. 👍

      Hi Heidi. I recently made a video comparing the iX1300 and iX1600 (ruclips.net/video/pgpZ2YqAK_w/видео.html). As for the software options, I believe that they are the same for both scanners and I believe that both scan at 600 DPI (dots per inch) and have the same options for color/photo scanning. As for scanning a lot of photos, I have a view in which I review the iX1300 and in that video I show that I was able to scan a lot of different kinds of photos very quickly. If you are scanning one kind of photo, like a standard 4 x 6 inches, the iX1600 would be the fastest. If you are scanning lots of types of photos, the iX1300 may be the best way to go as the front return scanner can accept almost any kind of photos, as long as it fits in the slot. I love both my iX1300 and iX1600, but when it comes to scanning photos, I usually go with the iX1300.

    If I were to feed it a range of various documents would it automatically create split pdfs? E.g. a 2-sheet bill will be saved as a single pdf with 4 pages and 3-sheet letter will be saved as a seperate 6 page PDF?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад

      Hi Serdar. That's a good question. I don't believe that it has the programming to select out the documents and batch them together in one part of the PDF (as you are describing). To achieve something like this, you would need to look at something from the Fujitsu Workgroup series. However, to achieve the effect with this unit, you could just batch the documents yourself, i.e., place all of your business cards first, receipts second, and 8.5/11" last. I appreciate that this would defeat the point of what you are trying to achieve (not having to manually sort documents) but I think that is what you would need to do to make it happen with the iX1600. The iX1600 does not know how many pages each invoice is, so it would scan as one PDF if you scanned multiple (different number of page) invoices. However, if you put in multiple pages, you can tell the scanner to create a new PDF after scanning so many pages, for example, after 3 pages, create new PDF.

      Hi there. If you haven't already, please be sure to check out my FAQ videos which may answer more of your questions.
      As for scanning data to QuickBooks or Excel, it doesn't do it directly but one can make a .CSV file which is something I will be showing in a future video. For this kind of advanced functionality, you may want to look at the fi-8170, for which I also have a review video.
      As for any issues I have had with the scanner or software, I'm happy to say that I've been using it for years and the only issues I have had have been occasional jams if I try to scan something unusual, like something that is too large to fit in the scanner. Whenever I run into this issue, I can usually scan it on my iX1300.
      I hope that this information is helpful. 😊

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Год назад +1

      Hi Don. Those are great questions. Thank you for asking them. Let’s take them one by one.
      1. Does the iX1600 come with a Twain driver? No. The iX1600 ScanSnap is part of Fujitsu’s "Small Office & Home Office" series and does not offer TWAIN compatibility. The Fujitsu fi/SP series are the "For Business" models which do have TWAIN compatibility.
      2. Can the iX1600 scan to the cloud? Yes. The iX1600 is designed to scan to various cloud services including Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, and OneDrive.
      3. Is it wi-fi so that you don't necessarily have to have it connected via USB to a computer? Yes. The iX1600 connects by wi-fi and you do not need to connect it to anything by a USB cable once it is set up. In my experience, it is easier to set it up with a USB cable first and then connect it by wi-fi. Once it is connected wirelessly, you can disconnect the USB cable and use it entirely wirelessly moving forward.
      4. I could just go up to the scanner and turn it on and scan to cloud without having to turn on a computer? No. The iX1600 must scan through a device using the ScanSnap Home software or mobile app. That being said, if you scan through a mobile device, you can indeed scan without turning on a desktop computer. However, the scan job will go directly to your mobile device. I suppose that you could then move the file on your mobile device from there and upload it to the cloud, but that would depend on if you could do this on your mobile device. The easier thing to do is just to keep a computer on which is running the ScanSnap Home software. You can walk up to the iX1600, put in whatever you want to scan, use the menus to select your scan profile, and scan to the cloud from there using the correct profile. But to reiterate, you cannot simply scan directly to the cloud from the iX1600 without it first going through software on a local machine running ScanSnap Home.

    I am unable to find anyone who can answer this question.
    1. Can the scan document be renamed to a text that is recognized through the text recognition?
    2. Can the scan document be tagged to a text that is recognized through the text recognition?
    Thanks much.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Год назад +1

      Hi patkohkw. You are most welcome. Thank you for watching my videos.
      Thank you for those questions. For my understanding, I will rephrase your questions. Please let me know if this is accurate. I think that you are asking:
      1. If a scanned document can be named based on text within the document which is recognized through the OCR (optical character recognition)?
      2. If a document can be tagged based on text within the document which is recognized through the OCR (optical character recognition)?
      I think that the answer to these questions is 'yes and no' with respect to the iX1600. ScanSnap Home is the software which operates the iX1600. No other kinds of software can be used (people often ask this question so I wanted to be clear on this). However, a scanner like the Fujitsu fi-8170 (I will be releasing a review on this soon), can be used with third-party software. I mention the software because this is the method by which the scanned document file gets its name. ScanSnap Home does have some auto-naming functions in which it will name a document based on text that it has pulled from the scanned document; however, it seems that the text that ScanSnap Home pulls and uses from a document is relatively random. For receipts and documents, it seemingly tries to use the text that is closet to the top of the page. For example, in my video on 'how to scan everything' you will see that I scanned a Starbucks receipt with the words 'Starbucks" at the top of the receipt: ruclips.net/video/fJhZHGGKkyc/видео.html. I used the iX1600 to scan this receipt. ScanSnap Home named the file '20190202_4.15_Starbucks.pdf'. I had to do a little configuring within ScanSnap Home to tell it how I wanted receipt names to be generated, but it was very easy. The auto-generated name is actually pretty good and works well for my purposes (it contains the name of the vendor and the total amount). ScanSnap Home works similarly when scanning standard paperwork, but depending on where the text appears on the page, the automatically generated name may or may not be accurate and useful.
      With respect to your second question, whether documents can be tagged based on text within the document, ScanSnap Home does allow for tagging documents but I think that this is done through the scanning profile that you select, not through text that is pulled from the document (though I could be wrong about this and ScanSnap Home does have a generic setting in which it will automatically detect the kind of document being scanned and may therefore also automatically tag it).
      I mentioned the fi-8170 earlier in my response because depending on what your needs are, that kind of scanner, that is in the business line of Fujitsu scanners, offers much greater control over things like [1] naming documents based on text pulled from within the document and [2] interfacing with third-party software (which may allow for greater control over tagging).
      Thank you again. I very much appreciate your questions and you watching my videos. If you wanted to subscribe to my channel, I would very much appreciate it. Please let me know if my answers are helpful and, if not, we can dig deeper. Have a great day. =)

    Can you scan and output to network storage or cloud without requiring a PC, laptop, or phone with the Scansnap Home software to be turned on?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Kay. No. To use the iX1600 and other Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners, you must use the ScanSnap Home software running on a PC or Mac. Within that software, you can select the "Save to" location and so as long as your predefined folder is showing in the operating system (like through Windows explorer), it will appear as a selectable location. If you are looking for a scanner that can scan to a network drive without needing to use a PC or other device, I understand that Raven scanners are very popular for this application: www.raven.com/pages/raven-scanner.

      I do not not recall having an issue with a security key when I installed my ScanSnap. Here is the link to a webpage on the Fujitsu ScanSnap Help website entitled "You Do Not Know the Security Key to Connect Directly to the ScanSnap". Hi Eloy. No. For something like that, you would need to look at something from the Fujitsu Workgroup series. You may also need to integrate it with accounting or bookkeeping software. With the Fujitsu Workgroup, you could extract data using defined fields, or you could export to Excel or Word using the supplied Abbyy FineReader. It cannot make calculations from the scanning software itself. The iX1600 can also can export to Excel or Word using Abbyy FineReader. It is a free, separate download from the Fujitsu website.

      Hi Johnny. No You cannot enter the file name from the touch screen. You define the naming rules from the profiles you create in ScanSnap Home. I need to scan a receipt and add an explanatory notation. Will I be able to do this?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  3 года назад +2

      Hi Teresa. Certainly. There will be a way to add an explanatory notation. It all depends on what form you want it to take. For example, I can imagine a number of options. First, you could simply make your note on another piece of paper and scan it during the receipt job so that it will produce a single PDF (pages 1 and 2 will be the receipt - assuming that you want to scan both sides - and the final page will be your explanatory note). Second, depending on what software you are using to view and produce PDF documents, you may be able to use the option called "Add Sticky Note". Third, if the note is small enough, you could simply make it in the name of the pdf, for example, "2021-07-04 $52.42 gas receipt SEE OTHER SIDE" where "SEE OTHER SIDE" is the note. These are just a few examples that I can think of at the moment. As mentioned, it all depends on what you need. If you want to send me an email to discuss it further, please get in touch with me. It'd be a pleasure to hear from you. =)

    Hi Sean, thanks for the review! I love the Fujitsu scanner so much I purchased one for my office and my home, I can't live without it! ;) But I am having a hard time finding the scan photo mode on my ScanSnap ix1600. I know it was there before (or maybe I just saw it on my home unit?) But I have the same one you just reviewed here at my office and the only options I'm seeing on the screen is ScanSnap Home, Scan to Folder, Scan to Email, Business Cards & Receipts. Is it possible that it has been removed? I'm not finding any answers to my quandary anywhere. I'm not even seeing it when I press the Settings option. Please help! Thanks!

      Hi Denise. You are most welcome. I am glad that you love the ScanSnap iX1600 too. If you have two, you must really love it! I'm sorry to hear of that issue you are encountering. If you are not finding any answers to my quandary anywhere, you are in the right place. I am happy to help.
      I'm currently away from my office but I think we can still get this taken care of. If I was at my office, I would record you a short video response to nip this in the bud. In short, I am thinking that perhaps the profile for the photo scan mode was somehow removed. Can you try this?
      1. Open the ScanSnap Home software on your computer
      2. Click the big blue Scan button in the top lef corner
      3. This will open the interface, click the small grey circle with a plus on in (top right corner, second from the left)
      4. By clicking that button, you are adding a new scan profile - look where there is a grey divider that says "Personal" and under that section, click "Photo Album"
      5. Change any settings you wish, or just keep the default settings, and then click the blue button which says "Add" in the bottom right hand corner
      6. That should save and add the new profile to your scanner
      Please excuse me if you have already tried this. If you have, we will have to take further steps (I have some thoughts about other things we could try).
      If you want to see an example of me adding a profile in the software, here is a link to a video that I made in response to some questions that I received recently: ruclips.net/video/iaHO51eywcM/видео.html
      Thanks again Denise. Please let me know if that helped and if we have cleared up the issue. 🙂

I'm glad to hear that in your experience, it seems to be working slightly better. I have chatted with a number of people who work in various roles at Fujitsu over the years and I'm convinced that they really do care about maintaining high product quality and always delivering better hardware and software. Hi Rajan. I believe so. You can select the "Save to" location so as long as your predefined folder is showing in Windows explorer, it should appear as a selectable option in the Scan Snap home application. My understanding is that the software follows the security parameters of your computer. If your computer has access to the folder, you can create a Profile to scan directly into that folder.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  2 года назад +1

      Hi Philip. Thank you for that question. I just ran multiple tests so that I could answer. Within any given scanning profile (Scan to Folder, Scan to Email, Business Cards, Receipts, Scan to Cloud, Etc.), it is possible to edit the "File size" (once you are in a scanning profile, click 'Detailed Settings' and then 'File size'. There are five options: Low (large file size), Medium low, Medium, Medium high, and High (small file size). I just ran three test scans, one on each of low, medium, and high. The file sizes are 1MB, 458KB, and 227KB. The test page is a standard, single piece of 8.5" x 11" paper with text from top to bottom within standard margins. Presumably if the pages were double-sided, the sizes would be approximately double: 2MB, 916KB, and 454KB. These are the sizes that were generated by the iX1600 but of course one could further alter these sizes later. For example, you could further compress any given scan by using software like Adobe Acrobat. I hope that I have answered your question and that you find this information to be useful. Have a great day.

      Hi Onlyveggies. It depends on how your network is set up but the easiest way that multiple people (even more than 2) can use the scanner is by setting up their own profiles. As I show in my video, as a simple example, on my home network, I have a profile and Chantal also has a profile. When I am in my profile, I can scan to folders, scan to email, etc. When Chantal wants to use the scanner, she access her profile through the touchscreen and then scan however she wants to scan. She can scan to her receipts folder. She can send scans to email. She can scan to pre-configured folders. Etc. Is that helpful? If you plan to use this in an office, you may need to check with your IT person to ensure that there will be no issues with access, security, etc.
      As for my discount code, it has unfortunately expired. If you take a look at my FAQ video, that's the first question I discuss: ruclips.net/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/видео.html

      Hi there. This unit does not also print. It is purely a scanner, which is a good thing in many respects because it means that it does one thing really well, as opposed to some units which do multiple things but only do them so-so. There are indeed many multi-page scanners that also print. My experience with those units have been with larger office based units, the huge ones with multiple paper trays, fax, flatbed scanning, multi-page feed scanning on the top, etc. There are many different good ones from Canon, Xerox, Brother and HP to name a few. =)
