I agree with that. Three years ago, when I didn't have any social media accounts, I was quite an elated and cheery person, and studying was not really a burden for me. But now, I am no longer that person, and I think I have wasted all my potential, with social media and smartphones being the primary reasons. To be honest, my social media activities are under control. The main problem is this screen. Being connected to it for so long makes everything else feel useless and vague. Even though I feel most alive when I have my coffee, journal, and music with me, those kinds of free activities only last for 1-2 hours before I'm back to my screen (for my lectures and RUclips sometimes). When I'm listening to "Blonde" and staring at the ceiling, I realize life is more than just my screen, but I don't know what else to do. I have no friends in real life or on social media .... So in the end it's back to my screen

You're right. It is a digital era. I would love to hang out with people I love but all of them live atleast 20 kms away (and that's the lowest, some not even in city). I love to connect with them and it is through calls and chats. If not that, I'm either studying and working, guess what, on my laptop. I couldn't get most of these offline or I would. Books are super expensive compared to my courses. And after I'm done with my productive part with screen, I turn for my enjoyment to screen again. Different devices but still screen. Deleted all socials except whatsapp and telegram and I'm tryna connect more with myself but screen is an inevitable enemy. Just wanted to rant about my frustration. If you read completely, sorry & thanks!

I've been struggling with a cycle of alternating between being highly productive and then falling into periods of binge-watching or mindless media consumption. For instance, last week I stayed on track and didn't waste any time, but in the past 24 hours, I've spent over 19 hours watching movies and short films. Despite wanting to stop several times, I just couldn't pull myself away. This pattern has happened multiple times, where I stay focused for 3-7 days and then slip back into excessive screen time. I'm really concerned about why this keeps happening and how I can better manage it.

My attention span got significantly worse over time, my eyesight is, too.
I started this video in 2 times speed while rushing through the comment section. I didn't even think through what was being said, neither in the video nor in the comment section. It's been a long time since I've read a book by my own. I remember reading it with my brain, emphasizing with the characters, and trying to find meaning behind the language used.
Now, I'm just reading with my eyes, letters after letters, texts after texts, etc.
Everything I hear and read appears so fake to me. As if no real person is behind it.

I relate to the part where hours go by and I havent even done anything productive. Not even edit my videos, or check messages. I just genuinely cannot accept my life.
I started by being just aware and trying to be conscious of what I do every waking moment, it was very tough at first but then gradually i got the hang of it and watched as if I was watching someone else's life. I felt the need to detach myself, from myself. I have the tendency to distract or escape reality if I get bored, or become lazy.
Every. Thing. In this video hits, and I will treasure this video. It helps when there are fewer words on screen, and as they flash by, I notice underlying meanings and thoughtful messages behind every word. Maybe thats just me being naturally introspective, but I really like the editing style. It makes me feel like someone is genuinely trying to talk through the screen.

In today's world people make friendships with their technology, not people. No one talks to one another. Walk into a restaurant or take the subway and everyone is looking at a small screen. These same people go home and look at an even larger screen, their computer, and end their day with an even larger screen, their television. Growing up in the sixties, coffee houses were the best places to meet people. Coffee and a good conversation - there was nothing like it. And I loved the poetry slams.

Absolutely, your words resonate deeply. It’s all too easy to become complacent and overlook the opportunities that lie before us. Sometimes, we get caught up in the routine of our lives, forgetting to nurture our own growth and well-being. But recognizing this is the first step toward positive change. Let’s strive to embrace discipline, seize those hidden opportunities, and cultivate a life that brings fulfillment to ourselves and those around us. 🌟

It feels like I’m actually spending my time well because I’m learning new meaningful things. Watching one long video seems “more productive” or “shorter” (and maybe better for my attention span) than if I watched multiple shorter videos, especially ones with brainless entertainment. honestly I think brain rot memes are funny, but I wouldn’t want to make it a life style. Honestly, it makes me feel horrible that people these days are getting so affected by it. Like. I get the memes, but at the same time I don’t??? Like the aura meme where you basically get deducted points if you do something “EMBARASSING”???? Like I don’t know. I don’t know what’s the point of that. But I feel happy that I’ve ended on the better side of the internet, I always see wholesome videos and kindness on shorts, reels. I wish the internet was used properly, for the good.
I totally admit that I’ve been a victim of brain rot but I try to work on it. I don’t want to live this way. I wish I had more opportunities to go out.

Bro u r really a life turner for people like me mentioned in the video. This is truly inspiring and motivating people to wake up to reality. Thanks for this, made me realize that this was the reason I fret when i start studying. Usually i study for more hours but now i feel like watching yt shorts whenever i am free and it has also decreased my productivity.
    Thanks a lot!

      1- Go to your avatar
      2- on setting
      3- click on general
4- click on playback in feed and turn it off
5- come to your home page
6- tap three dot and select not interested in some shorts until it ends

@@Sarthakbro12you should click not interested on home page then refresh it will be gone.
You should not be feeling guilty for using social media, you just need to limit it. All good!

@@Sarthakbro12 switch off your history. It will make your feed "empty" and won't recommend you the shorts you like when you click the icon

I’m just starting Uni and man I need to lock in.
This is the final step of my life. I’ve been at school for over 15 years for this exact moment.
my addiction to my phone has really been fucking it up.
I realized something: no one can help you if you don’t help yourself. You need to be the one waking up every morning with the drive to perform.
The only reason I haven’t thrown my phone out the window is because I need it for my friends and to call my parents.
Anyways thanks for the wake up call.
Sometimes when this pops on my feed it motivates me again.
    Tomorrow we kill everything.

Yes I realized this problem 4 years ago. So I started a dopamine detox. I muted all social media deleted some apps and only left my phone notifications on if it was something important. Many days I don’t use social media, play video games, or listen to music. I sit in silence for 10-20 minutes without doing anything just sitting down and let my brain/mind get rid off all the chaos that’s going on inside than I concentrate on my work until I’m done or at a check point
