This came together in January, the month before release! We had this idea of 'skipshots' where we'd drop the snare for a beat and have it come back on the next. And this would let us fill the gap with spicy rhythms and make it more challenging for the player to hit it when the beat returned.
In the end we only used it 3 times in the song, but still it was fun. Gameplay here thanks to BluPen: • 2-1N wish i could care... . Those vibraslap rattles cue the parts where you have to skip the next snare and keep the beat in your head.
The lyrics of the song also accurately describes how writing the lyrics and song was like, and somehow the whole dev team found it relatable. The clever chorus line was from a comic from our friend Wai Yin ( / 2538633923054557 .
Major thanks to Yeo for really stepping up with the great vocals and little harmonies and handling the mixing of it all. He's an Australian artist we've been a fan for a long time. Here are some tracks we love:

Sweet Jesus it feels so difficult to think about how I could possibly express how much I relate to, subsequently feel sad about because of how much of my own insecurities it makes me confront regarding my own art, and then inevitably love this song. Great job Rhythym doctor team!

This is honestly my favorite song throughout the whole game, it's just chill.

As someone who does writing, and is constantly swamped by work and/or University, this resonates deep
As someone who makes music, this perfectly encapsulates what it's like to be productive and struggle with mental illness.
Doubting my talent, comparing my work to others, and an irrational need to "perfect" everything I put my effort into are things I struggle with daily. This song expresses those struggles so eloquently.
I also love this song because it ends on a positive note at the end, saying that there's always gonna be another day ahead of you to try again.
It's super short and sweet but fulfills its purpose.
I can't overstate how amazed I am with this game and its music. I am a pretty serious rhythm game (Stepmania, DDR, etc) enthusiast and have 100000% enjoyed the experience you provide in this game. It's so much more than just a rhythm game.
You should check out Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven series, if you haven't already! Rhythm Doctor and Rhythm Heaven are really their own genre of rhythm games, where it's more a test about how well you can follow the rhythm without cues instead of how well you can sight-read. Rhythm Heaven also has some real jams, too, but it doesn't have a true narrative or anything like Rhythm Doctor, usually just a list of unlockable games. (Also, I am, somewhat, a rhythm game enthusiast too (Stepmania, USDVXC/KSM, RH))

Man, I just love how this song perfectly communicates how self-destructive the desire to do better can be when it's too strong. Whether you're a video creator, a music composer, or an artist of any other kind, it's *good* to desire improvement, but that desire has to be kept in check. You need to remind yourself that improvement doesn't come consistently and definitely won't come equally across the board. Don't be afraid to experiment or play around with an idea that, at first, looks like a bad one. In the end, experience is the purest form of learning. Better to commit, create a dud, and learn from it, than to just sit there doing nothing. Heck, maybe what you learned from creating that dud can be just what you needed to create your next magnum opus.

Anyone within any creative field knows how hard this hits. I used to do personal Photoshop artwork every month but I stopped because I just couldn't get into the proper headspace and instead end up doing literally anything else. The worst part is is that it's something I _want_ and have the full freedom to do so but can never fully pull the trigger on it. My last piece was a year ago and I managed to make something the other day but it's a one year gap! I have the time to create the things I want to but feel like I'll fall behind.
