You have brought me back from the depths of despair......garage quoted £1800....saw your video 60 minutes later car back to A1 running order.......TOP VIDEO....TOP MAN.....THANK YOU!!
No problem pal! if it keeps happening it will be the seals on the actuator. Search on eBay for a repair. I sent mine away and its run fine since then. It was about £700 I think there's a link on here somewhere.
Chris, this post is a godsend mate. I followed your steps (the bolts were a nightmare to get to), topped up the transmission oil and seemed fine on doing a few trial runs. Here’s hoping it stays in working order!
I did this on my daughters fiat today, its easier to drop the undertray to gain access to 2 bolts on the right side of heat shield and the bottom one on the left of shield, then remove air filter box and with a small extension with 10mm socket take the remaining bolt out of top left of heat shield. Undo the top of fluid bottle with 17mm socket. All done in around 90 mins.
Just phoned to Fiat and got this oil: Petronas Tutela CS Speed 75W 9.55550-SA1 Fully synthetic hydraulic fluid for the hydraulic controls of Selespeed and TCT gearboxes.
@@Funtime-te1qp it worked for a year, later had to rebuild gearbox and change clutch too. My mechanic said once oil been topped up, you have to code gearbox, but I haven’t done that.. only topped up 3 times, in which case had to rebuilt gearbox as one sensor broke.
Hi, Thank you for the awesome video. I'm facing the same issue with my fiat500 2015, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. But I notice that when you start the car in the morning or after long brake (after the engine cool down or 1-2hrs brake) try to run the car on with some extra accceleration on 2&3 gears for 2 to 3 min (or 1-2km) to heat up the engine. Then the car never stopped on signals or when you slow down. It is working for me perfectly. You can check your engine temperature will always shows single bar when you start the car , after driving with some extra acceleration of 2-3min it will shows 4 bars(half), so it means your car engine is having enough engine heat. It works perfectly.
Three 10mm bolts to move airbox to the left to gain access to the final bolt at the top left of heat shield. Takes around 250ml of Petronas CS 75w trans oil
Hi Chris, my fiat dealer said to check this oil you need to open the drivers door so the pump kicks in and primes the tank (mine is a 05 panda) I've been told if you don't do this you can over fill it and cause leaks.?
Hi. I have a Lancia Musa 2006 1.3 diesel automatic. Sometimes gives me an error gearbox failed for 2 sec and then disappear. This message always comes when is 2d gear. It pops up for 3-4 sec and then disappear. Car change gears normal. Only when message pops up won't go from 2nd to 3nd. Only for this 2 sec. The obd error is P1742. After some days watching the problem i see that message pops up when car is in 2nd gear and wont go to 3d until message disappear. Then it works fine. Same when car is in 2nd and going to 1st. Can you help please. Thanks in advance
Hi, I'm facing the same issue with my fiat500 2015, I just want to check, has it works for your car? If it works Please suggest to me what oil I need to use?
Hi Chris, I have problem with my Dualogic gearbox (FIAT 500 1.4 2010). My DUALOGIC does not work when outside temperature is 10°C or lower. I'm trying to put a D or R gear but I can't. I always have to wait app. 5 minutes to warm up the "robot" and only then I'm able to put gear. With colder outside temperature it's getting worse. Diagnostics shows only some classic errors, nothing important. Thanks for all advices! 😯 86 000 km. Transmission fluid has never been changed in this car. Do you think it could be the problem? Or what should I do? What is the process of changing this oil? I heard it's not easy because you have to take apart the whole Dualogic transmission to be able to change oil, is it true? Thank you for answer!
Well done Chris! I have a similar problem with my fiat 500, it goes into neutral. I’ve discovered the transmission oil is leaking. So I may try to top it up and see what happens. Could you tell me how did you top it up yourself? I’ve located the tank but not sure how to open it for the top up. Should I look for a lid ? Could you please advise ? Thanks M
Thanks for video. My reservoir was a similar level to yours, about two inches below minimum. Topped up it and road tested but it slipped into neutral while breaking. I may have another fault somewhere 😓
Hey thanks for posting this vid. After topping it up - (level was about the same as yours) I now get a message check transmission see handbook. What does this mean and how do one get rid of it? Did you or anyone experience the same?
Well this is a good find ... the wife's 500 automatic has on several occasions stepped out of gear during downshifting into an unwanted NEUTRAL. Always when its somewhere awkward like at traffic lights or entry to a motorway junction! Sometimes the message pops up on display like 'check' or 'transmission' but maybe it means transmission fluid! My local garage told me it might the mechanical auto-selector box (2 1/2 grand!!) so I will tell them tomorrow to check the transmission fluid, at least top up or swap it out. Looking at your video I'm guessing for a mechanic with a ramp to access this fluid reservoir and top it up this is 1-2 hrs work max. I want to try fresh fluid before replacing the expensive mechanical stuff. I want a reliable situation then sell my car!
My fiat loses oil from this reservoir occasionally. It actually 'barfs' about 100ml which then disables the robot. Any idea why it throws out the oil? It is not overfilled.... Is there a pressure relief channel somewhere that gets clogged??? Luckily it never happens while driving. Only when leaving the driveway...
I have a problem with my 2008 Fiat 500 where it occasionally slips in to neutral, or stalls, or won’t go in to gear. Usually happens during heavy traffic & hot weather. Warning message on cluster says “insufficient engine oil pressure” Took it to Fiat who tell me the the ‘gear selector actuator’ needs replacing at a cost of AUD8000. Feeling frustrated and let down by Fiat in a car I absolutely love. Does anyone know of a possible alternative diagnosis and fix?
Not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
I am concerned about this . My car is not moving. About 3 times a warning light came on whilst driving. Eventually the car would not move and it has been this way for a few weeks . I just located the area where I can add fluid. Should I go ahead and add transmission fluid or call in the Dealers / Garage ?
@@danielq5570 Listen to me. I rocked the car back back and forth, shifted the gear shift through the gears and tried turning the switch key. Eventually it just clicked and WOW ! It started and has driven quite well up to now except a few times when it did the same thing. However, it started aite quickly.
yes when this fault occurs, if you can physically roll the wheels with the engine off then flick the gear lever it will re-engage from neutral to a gear. @@asiba2
Hi it depends really. It is possible that the oil, being under pressure can vent onto the engine block or other hot component that will then smoke. Are you seeing any oil loss from your engine oil? is the smoke coming from the exhaust?
Chris, Great video, thanks. My daughter’s Fiat 500 dualogic had exactly the same problem. It jumped into neutral while driving (in very cold weather by the way) and she was stranded on the A3 for a few minutes. She then drove it home (all ok) and the next day to a garage (all ok) so this has only happened once. The garage is not a Fiat specialist or gearbox specialist. Fault codes are P2914-78, P2917-71, and P060A-79. They are quoting over £2000 to replace gearbox AND transmission control module. Did you have similar fault codes with yours? How long did it run ok for after you topped up the transmission oil? Thanks.
Hi Mike My transmission module was leaking quite a lot so it worked for a few weeks then needed topping up again. I suppose it depends on the condition of the seals on the module. Search on ebay for Duologic transmission module. there is a guy who repairs them on there and its just a case of sending the unit to him along with its wiring loom and he replaces all of the seals and instrumentation on the module if its needed the cost was in the hundreds. I did this a few months after I posted this video and its been great. (I hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying this)🤐 my fiat has all sorts of faults turning up and I just switch it off and back on again and its fine.
transmission fluid it's measured when engine is running and with mopar dipstick 10323 measure the level, then the dipstick've got hot and cold level, then you decide what to do, how can you state that because the reservoir looks low you're going to add some? thanks god you're not gynecologist bro. Chris Todd so eventually you did have to have the hydraulic shift actuator replaced? I am currently having similar problem with my 500L and trying to figure out how to get my car running again, I don’t want to replace this $1700 part if it is not necessary.
