It's very Capetonian. It was quite popular in the early 90's amongst the teens but it became a lame word and dissapeared for a while. It has, however, made a come back.
Could u imagine immigrating to another country as a south African and saying voetsek in public and another South African reacts. It'd be the most joy we've ever had hearing that word in our life.
I wish they added all the slangs the majority of South Africans are popular with, or at least should have titled the video with "Aussies Guess White South African Slang".
This was hilarious. As an aussie that moved to south africa learning this slang was so dificult. Nowadays i pretty much speak 50% afrikaans throughout the day. Especially ‘sek. Too often tbh.

It’s only Afrikaans slang or slang from only one province. South Africa has more than 11 official languages and nine provinces. I think you should have used slang that all South Africans use. Most of these words weren’t even slang.

I wish they added all the slangs the majority of South Africans are popular with, or at least should have titled the video with "Aussies Guess White South African Slang".
Howzit? Slang for "How is it?" , meaning how is life. First recorded in the late 70s and 80s. In Afrikaans pop culture its referred to as "Hoesit". Voetsek comes from Dutch "Voort se ek". which means "Move forward I say!" but referring to hasting cattle, horses or a donkey pulling a cart.
The scary thing about going over seas is the dogs don't understand voetsek
Facts lol
Aweh
I died lol
🤣 ja nee

Half of the words are misused and the other half are just Afrikaans words, not really slang.
Presies ek stem saam

It must be colloquial surely. In my 39 years I have hardly ever used these words out of their language context or as "slang".
Mooi is just a normal basic word.
It's like saying the beautiful is slang for beautiful.
Ja dit is nie sleng nie

I. Never have I heard of "kif" or anything remotely close. Maybe it's regional but I doubt it.
Dawgg

It's very Capetonian. It was quite popular in the early 90's amongst the teens but it became a lame word and dissapeared for a while. It has, however, made a come back.
Have you guys not heard of the band the kiffness??
As a South African, I've Never heard of 'Kif'...
I was waiting for different words like 'Hhayibo!'
Kif is very white, joburgy/Durbany
I too would've appreciated less Afrikaans and more real slang
I also have never heard of that word and I'm also Afrikaans 😂😂
I didn't know what kif means until my mom said she used that word in high school when she was a kid
It's very popular among English speakers on the east coast

80% of this video is faulty. Some of the words used are not slang at all. The correct definition of the word afterwards is also very vague.
Surprisingly, we have alot of cultures here, that use the words slightly differently
