Oh, my gosh! The same thing happened to me! I got the notification and I got so sad that I hadn't waited for this video to come out lol...let's just say the other recipe didn't meet my expectations O.O
I had these in Iowa while i was attending to an American elementary school a long time ago. It blew my mind cuz it was sooo sweet, bland but addictive! I cant wait to make these thank you so much!!
I'm so excited about this recipe and video. I just made a ton of Christmas goodies, but once we leave this season, this will be an excellent go-to for baking. I always eye these at the store but never get them because of all the additives... I'm so glad I can avoid those by making these myself!
I have a stand mixer but it's hard to reach and heavy to carry to the kitchen so I usually mix stuff by hand, the hardest thing so far was whipping egg whites to stiff peaks with a whisk
I saved up to buy a stand mixer a couple black Fridays ago, was only $110 and very very worth it (im a baker tho so it depends on how much you'd use it)
I never heard of them either but I have seen them in grocery stores...and at potlucks. I jusy didn't know what they were called. I'll bet John's are better. I have red and blue sprinkles in my baking pantry. I may make some for Memorial Day.
As a home baker, I never buy those cookies and yet when my children go to parties they tell me how happy they were to eat those very same cookies!!! LOL Just told my son that I stumbled across this recipe- I wish you could have seen his face!!! I’ve been begged to bake them ASAP!
I actually made these awhile back. I did a blind taste test with my hubby to see if could tell home made from store bought, and he defiantly could. I doesn't like the store bought ones at all, never had, but he really enjoyed the ones I made using your recipe.

I see these at my local grocery stores but I never knew they had a name. I always thought they were just thick sugar cookies with hurt your teeth sweet icing on them. I bake A LOT. Love doing so but there are times when I will buy store bought sweets. These though? Nope. I don't doubt your recipe is good but I'd rather use my ingredients to make something more exciting... 🤷♀️ Just made a Pavlova and a homemade lemon curd to mix into it. I chopped up some strawberries and bananas and tossed those into the whipped heavy cream. Then I tossed blueberries all over the surface of the whipped cream filling. Haven't had a piece yet but I did taste the whipped cream filling. Oooh, it's SO good... 😋

I am from the States but live in Cambodia with our family running a community development center. So there are times that I deeply miss simple comforts like these types of cookies. In fact the ones at the store were always my hidden indulgence. But since Covid I have started to bake at home for my family and kids. It's not always easy finding the ingredients but I did manage to get everything to make these. And they turned out amazing! Because of the humidity and heat we had to just drop them on the pan and then press them down with a a floured glass. But they turned out incredible. Thanks so much for sharing these incredible recipes. Also as a side, we have Brits and Scotts that meet at our house each week and we are regularly asked to make the vanilla custard recipe you have. We break up some "biscuits" and pour it over the custard. Hahaha thanks for all the recipes.
I miss these! I live in France so I can’t get them. I’m so glad you posted this. I have to ask...are you feeling ok? Your voice sounds a little strained. Take care of yourself!
Maybe you could try other buttercream frosting types for example the german buttercream ( you add cooled curstard into creamed butter and sugar ,this buttercream isnt too sweet and it is very stable)
That sounds good. I agree that American Buttercream can be overly sweet. I've made Swiss Meringue Buttercream Frosting & I love it. It tastes great & pipes well, (but it does melt in the heat) & it doesn't firm up, so it's nice for cakes / cupcakes, but not so much for cookies. It would be fun to try a German Buttercream recipe sometime.
@@miriamrobarts I hate American buttercream. It's grossly sugar coma sweet. I tend to stick with whipped cream b/c I can control the sugar content w/o impact to the texture of the cream. Is the Swiss and German version regular sweetness and don't give you a sugar headache?
@@tweewin I love whipped cream, too. I agree that it's nice that you can make it with more or less sugar without really changing the texture, and you can adjust the sweetness according to whatever you're serving it with. I haven't tried the German buttercream, but xxx 89 said in the comment above that it "isn't too sweet", so I'd like to try it sometime. Yes, Swiss Meringue Buttercream is much less sugary & completely different from American Buttercream. (Well, as far as frostings go.) I love that it isn't overly sweet & it has a super-smooth texture. It's very light & soft. (It does firm up if you refrigerate it, though.) It takes more time and effort to make than American Buttercream (& you'll need a mixer that can run for a long time), but it's definitely worth it. You can easily find recipes & tips on making Swiss Meringue Buttercream online, so you should try it! Italian Meringue Buttercream is very similar, but if I remember correctly, the method is different in the beginning of the recipe. (Just looked it up: Swiss meringue is made by heating the egg whites with the sugar before whisking, and Italian meringue is made by drizzling a hot sugar syrup into the egg whites while whisking.) I prefer the Swiss method because it's easier, and the eggs are definitely pasteurized. Swiss Meringue Buttercream pipes beautifully, and since it's less sweet, you can pipe a towering swirl onto your cupcakes & they will be deliciously eatable (no scraping off necessary!). I made it for coworkers one time & they all liked it. One coworker who also likes to cook was very impressed & interested to learn about the recipe. When looking up the Swiss vs. Italian difference, I found this article comparing several types of buttercream frostings: www.seriouseats.com/buttercreams-frosting. (I haven't tried any of these specific recipes, but when I've done searches in the past, all the Swiss Meringue frosting recipes were pretty much the same.) Good luck if you give it a try!
@@miriamrobarts thanks for the detailed response! I will look into the Swiss version. I have used the Italian method of heating the sugar syrup for French macarons before, so I am familiar with that method. It wasn't super difficult honestly. I'm always in search of more creamed topping and want to find ones that I can control sweetness level. When I was young living in Vietnam, my relative was a baker and she would always give me a whole bowl of leftover cream to eat. It was soooo good and soft, but didn't taste like whipped cream nor American buttercream. I have been in search of that same type of cream for over 25 years now. Maybe it's the Swiss one!

"Tastes like a celebration" is the best description for these!!
I made this and you neverrrrr disappoint me! They where soft cakey tender, UGH! It was delicious
Can u plz explain exactly what they were like for me? Thank you!
Made this recipe today and OMG! So good! Thank you for sharing my family absolutely loved it! So much better homemade 🤍
I'm so excited about this recipe and video. I just made a ton of Christmas goodies, but once we leave this season, this will be an excellent go-to for baking. I always eye these at the store but never get them because of all the additives... I'm so glad I can avoid those by making these myself!
I really love these cookies. Can't wait to try making them at home.
Thank you so much for the recipe.
My pleasure 😊
These look so good I'm going to bake these in like 30 min and instead of baking powder I am going to use cream of tarter instead as a substitute
“Or even do it by hand if you’re very ambitious”… no I’m just too poor to buy a stand mixer 🤣😅😭
I share your pain .. I want one so badly. One of these days I am going to splurge!
Buy a hand mixer Walmart has some for $15!
Same
I have a stand mixer but it's hard to reach and heavy to carry to the kitchen so I usually mix stuff by hand, the hardest thing so far was whipping egg whites to stiff peaks with a whisk
I saved up to buy a stand mixer a couple black Fridays ago, was only $110 and very very worth it (im a baker tho so it depends on how much you'd use it)
I was literally talking to my boyfriend about lofthouse cookies the other day. How did you know that I needed this
Never heart of Lofthouse cookies but looking forward to giving these a go!
They sell them at Walmart
I never heard of them either but I have seen them in grocery stores...and at potlucks. I jusy didn't know what they were called.
I'll bet John's are better.
I have red and blue sprinkles in my baking pantry. I may make some for Memorial Day.
@@bronsonbrown8300 don't live in the US.
Thanks once again for sharing . I will make this cookies for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas and everyone here . God bless
As a home baker, I never buy those cookies and yet when my children go to parties they tell me how happy they were to eat those very same cookies!!! LOL Just told my son that I stumbled across this recipe- I wish you could have seen his face!!! I’ve been begged to bake them ASAP!
Lofthouse cookies are the BEST...I am looking forward to how this turns out for me..
I had no idea they even had a name, I just referred to them as the 'Soft Sugar cookies with soft icing and sprinkles'
I actually made these awhile back. I did a blind taste test with my hubby to see if could tell home made from store bought, and he defiantly could. I doesn't like the store bought ones at all, never had, but he really enjoyed the ones I made using your recipe.
I was just looking up recipes for these 3 days ago! So excited! All of John's recipes are amazing!
I made these and my picky friend finished them all! I had to make 2 batches of these and everyone loved it! Thank you so much!
These look so fluffy and perfect!
They are sooooo tasty!!!
These were a little bit soft to deal with but so worth it loved these cookies so much
I loveeee these cookies so much😩
I just finished finals and I am in the process of binge watching your videos, and I don't even cook/bake, I just eat. I love your videos and you are such a cool human being. I love ❤ your personality. Thank you for sharing.
They look so perfect I'm definitely going to make these!
Happy Baking!!
Now you can make them again! 😃
These are amazing! These cookies are my son’s favorite. I can now make them for him at home. You are absolutely right about these cookies being better than store bought. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Thank goodness I thought he was going to try and disrespect these cookies like all the other people have been doing
I love love Lofthouse Cookies!! I have missed them since leaving the States, and am very happy to have found a recipe that looks like the real thing:) I will definitely be making these one day this week. Thank you for sharing!
I recommend doing them since I have already made them twice and I will do them for thx giving ☺
What the heck are Lofthouse cookies oh my god I've never heard of them! They look delish I need to try
I think you're going to love this recipe!
I think so too!! I'm already planning when to make them :)
Can't wait! And thanks for an amazing video as always 🥰
Honestly, the store-bought kind are not that great, but if John's making them, they should be tasty
You don't get out much...?...😉
He looks so happy when he’s baking. I’m definitely gonna try and make these they look delicious

I really just come to drool over the kitchen. What a gorgeous kitchen!
These look great, will definitely try them out this summer. Can you please make a video on homemade frosted animal cookies? Thanks!
Omg!!!!!!!! Those are my favorite store brand cookies!!! If I ever found out how to make them....... I'd be 500 POUNDS!!!! Yeah, Mother's brand ....frosted, pink and white, circus animal cookies with the sprinkly dingleballs!!!! 1🥰🥰🥰💗💗💗💗🐪🐘🦏🦒
Thank you!
Honestly these were so easy to make and I'm only 10
Truly these were so delicious
(It does firm up if you refrigerate it, though.)
It takes more time and effort to make than American Buttercream (& you'll need a mixer that can run for a long time), but it's definitely worth it.
(I haven't tried any of these specific recipes, but when I've done searches in the past, all the Swiss Meringue frosting recipes were pretty much the same.)
Good luck if you give it a try!
@@tweewin I hope so! It would be special to finally find it & be able to share it with your family along with the memory.
Made these today in school, even though my group overcooked it and messed up a little during the process, it still tasted good
