Unusual film for the period. I was ready to dismiss it as a B movie and then it surprised me. Orloff's servant dances a fine line between campy and treacherous. The movie could have dispensed with the American but I guess he served as the foil. Orloff's institution is really creepy and the scene with the immobile man is truly horrifying.
I'm so glad that whoever you are, that you have these older movies on here to show. I like them 100 percent better than any new movie. Thank you so very much for showing them.
Bela Lugosi had that magnificent evil eye, someone who really knew the evil eye. This is a delightful film for many reasons. The blind benefited the story line perfectly with brilliant supporting roles. It was so great with the river and the Dr. Orloff staff, we even had the glass ware and electric machines as in Frankenstein. So it all was perfect entertainment. A monster mystery. Thank You.
So happy this was recommended to me! And here I thought I saw every one of Bela Lugosi's films. What a pleasant surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Thank you for uploading.
Wow, I just watched "The Invisible Ghost" today with Bela Lugosi and now, "The Human Monster" pops up I also learned today that Bela's name is pronounced, "Bay-la". Thanks for the movie.
There are four amazing ones with Karloff and Bela "Black Cat" and "The Raven" are two of my favorites. You can get the four pack on DVD. Doubt you can watch them for free on utube.
Definitely an underrated horror classic; Bela Lugosi as one of his most devious characters (aside from the ones who turn into bats, command zombies, or have broken necks!), a great 'monster' with Jake the goon, and a lot of great classic gothic atmosphere.
Edgar Wallace wrote some fantastic stories in his time & this is definitely one of his best. One can only speculate how creepy this film was when it first came out...
*THX* PizzaFlix for this surprisingly never before seen *Little Gem....* whose sinuous suspense definitely overshadowed the often typically "jocular" humor repetitiveness of so many 1930s film scripts =👌 As this nefarious plot progressed, I became increasingly "urged" to ponder exactly WHO was *_"The Human Monster"....._* 😮 A Definitively English "cheerio" ending, much on par with the earlier, classic American Universal Studios Horror genre.
According to a recent DVD of the film, it is STILL not recommended for children. I recall that I saw it on a big screen when I was about 6 years old. It was the first monster movie that really bothered me.
No I don't think it's appropriate either and children should not be forced to watch scary inappropriate things. I used to run screaming out of the living room when I was about 4 and my older brother wanted to watch The Incredible Hulk in the early 80s.

Lagosi wasn't wanted for the movie Dracula, because of his heavy accent, lol, the producers offered the part to many popular actors, but back then they called these creature films and was considered cheesy, lagosi wrote letters to the producers begging for the part, finally they caved when others turned it down, knowing how much he wanted the part they used that as leverage against him to pay him less than everyone else, the rest is history, "Velcome to my castle".

Hi Gav 🍕 thanks for your eloquent review 🍕
@@PizzaFLIX No problem! You must do a lot of digging to find these gems!
The American cop character was useless. It is more adapted to a 3 Stooges film.
This is an overlooked gem of Lugosi@
Lugosi reached his zenith as a totally evil character in this film, released as Dark Eyes Of London, in England.
I'm so glad that whoever you are, that you have these older movies on here to show. I like them 100 percent better than any new movie. Thank you so very much for showing them.
Awesome performance by Lugosi, absolutely one of my favorites. BELA LUGOSI LIVES...!!!
i recently found out that he had a detective series called Colonel March. ive enjoyed watching them.

Phantom Ship is great also.

Lugosi was the greatest
IF YOU CAN.....PLEASE BRING.... "THE WOLFMAN"!!!!! LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!

Hi Dada 🍕Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you 🍕
I looked up the actor who played Jake. Very handsome man w/o all the makeup and wig. His name was Wilfred Walter.
Thank you so much Sauce a great great movie!!

I agree. The horrible thing is that conditions in asylums really were that bad.
I can see him as a philosophy teacher. Thanks PF for the piece of gold😊

Great movie, fun, suspenseful and a bit of a thriller. Like the addition of the American as comic relief
Oh yes! 👍🏻❤️
Outstanding choice. Thanks again..😊😊

I love Bela. He was in a lot of movies that would have
been junk without him. I'm not sure if this is one of them or not.
One of my favorities is "The Devil Commands". Can't find it anywhere.
Hi Brook 🍕 that one stars Boris Karloff. It’s available on BluRay, but doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere for free. 🍕
@@PizzaFLIX Thanks. If you ever get a hold of it, please play it.

"The Devil Commands" DVD...Ebay $7-$10!
Bela is EVIL as heck in this movie. It's unnerving.
I love this kinda beginning!
H ugh Williams was the father of Simon(Upstairs,Downstairs)Williams.
bella (pronounce bellah) is an italian word meaning pretty, Bela (pronounce bay-lah) is a Hungarian name for males
underrated gem with the icon, Bela
You can't know it was underrated you pretentious Pollock.

Thanks Abigail 🍕but since it’s the first one let’s get the series name right 🍕Classic Movie Monday 🍕
Same pot at Ed Wood, Jr.'s Bride of the Monster.
Pretty good flick! I was impressed by the makeup job on Wilfred Walter ("Jake"), as he was fairly good looking and also a Shakespearean actor.
He came second in a handsome competion. The winner was Slim Summerville.
I think i have this under the title of Dark Eyes of London

Belated Lugosi was good in this film, but his Dracula from 1931 was his best effort, IMO.
Oh, no, no!! Watch " White Zombie".
@@lindaanderson7077 My favourite was "Plan 9 From Outer Space"
40:35Such an awesome aside to the audience!
Pretty good movie.
Was that Thora Hird?
Who?
What does it mean if I'm watching on a Sunday?
Means you can't walk on Hallowed Ground !
Youre a sinner obviously.
Lugosi at his most evil best!!
Those poor policewomen having to wear a hat like that!! It's dreadful.
Was that Margaret Hamilton, the witch on "Wizard of Oz"?
@@scarygary-qq1pj no, although she looked similar.
Now that’s a scary film
They think she is in trouble but still wait to get their hats & coats! 🙄
Propriety in the Thirties took precedence.
greetings from borgo pass, its august 2023 :)
💫 🌟 !!! COOL !!! 🌟 💫
Pretty interesting movie, except for the annoying American detective. His role was 1000 percent pointless.
🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
the guy who played the goon (Glenn Strange) was the bartender on Gunsmoke for years. Guess they wanted somebody as tall as James Arness.😄😄
Glenn Strange is not in this movie.
Jake the henchman was played by Wilfred Walter.
@@anton1990...Glenn Strange played the Frankenstein Creature more than all other actors combined.
@@BarbaraBertke
No, he didn’t. He played the Monster three times, just like Karloff.
You vill do what l tell you lol
Time for some medical weed first
Did he really have to drown him first before he threw him into the muddy river OVER KILL. Ha ha.
