@@jamesplees I was struggling with this same thing for the longest time. Both are fantastic cameras. @@TimHarris2 I just bought it, going to use it at weddings. Not to record the whole ceremony, but for some special slowmotion shots, due to the 4k 120fps. Will have a blast with it.
I love my ZV-E1 and is mostly a joy to use. However, one thing that I think is overhyped, disappointing and has ruined some of my footage is dynamic stabilization. It really only works if moving forward or backwards in a straight line. Any kind of rotation or panning throws it off and causes unwatchable, sudden jitters. I constantly have to remind myself to ensure it's off.
Don't you think the A7Cii would be a better choice? It has an EVF, albeit small, and shoots great video. Is there any reason you think the ZV-E1 is a better choice? I'm torn between the two cameras.
@@WES-pt2ho both are great options for different reasons. The A7Cii is more of a hybrid option with the higher megapixel count and video features. To me the ZV-E1 is more video focused and gives you more options like 60 and 120fps in 4k without a crop. So choosing which one to get really comes down to what you think you’d mostly be using the camera for.
@@ZacSopak I like the ZV-E1 better. but When I was trying to choose just one camera, I thought I should get something more all-round. So I wanted to ask your criteria, thanks.
I need to make a video on this! In short, I shoot in SLOG-3 and use the PHANTUM LUTS to get the colors and contrast. After that I adjust things like white balance and exposure to taste.
Both to be great options. Obviously the biggest difference is going to be the way that the bodies are built and the sensor sizes. I think if you were doing more content creation specific work then I would say the ZV-E1, but if you’re doing more client type work, that is specifically focused around video then the FX 30 gives you a bit more versatility
Hey Zac, thanks for this informative video, gave u a sub. :) I got mine today and noticed that the shutter button doesn't have a distinct second pressure point when fully pessing it. While the camera focuses when I press lightly and takes a photo when I press harder, I don’t feel a noticeable ‘click’ at the second stage, like I do with my A7C. Is this normal for the ZV-E1, or could there be an issue with my unit? Thanks in advance!
Hey Max, thanks for the sub! 👍 I just checked mine and it does have a noticeable click when you press it all the way down. So it is possible that it could be something with your unit. For context, I did buy mine used so I'm not sure if it might be a little older and possibly build different. Hope that helps.

I believe the opening shots were with the Tamron 17-28 2.8 at 17mm with dynamic active stabilization enabled which adds a crop. It looks like 3:10 was probably the tamron as well 3:30 would be the Sony 20mm 1.8 was dynamic active stabilization on. Either way if I’m doing a shot with the camera handheld, it’s one of those two lenses on the wide end and I most likely have dynamic active stabilization turned on

You should check out a video I recently made a video on the Sigma 24-70 2.8. If I was starting out and could only have one lens that would be the one I’d get
Making a video on this soon… Basically, the 12mp is fine for social media posting/low light photos, but not good when you’re cropping in a ton. If you’re mostly focused on video and occasionally need a photo for social media or thumbnails it’ll do the job. If you need more even photo/video quality then I’d suggest an a6700 or an A7 series camera.
Interesting, I have a Canon mount Sigma lens that might work if there's an adapter for this mirrorless cam... Would have been handy during the recent Aurora, but I can't seem to find any footage anyone has shot of it with this camera...
I just don't wanna watch vlog without good image stabilization. Especially I watch RUclips x 1.25~2 speed up. Most of sony vloging video is just not watchable unless vloger use heavy gimbal I've been using Sony camera, to be honestly Image stabilization SUCKS. Both hardware and software. Sony catalyst is pain to use. Since sony camera has small mount, there are not enough room for the sensor to move around to get stable image I just use my dji pocket for video.
I don’t think I could do RUclips at 1.25-2x speed, but I would certainly be able to watch more videos 😂 agreed that the Sony stabilization is typically okay, not fantastic, but the dynamic active stabilization on this camera is MUCH BETTER than the normal active stabilization. Granted, there is a small crop, but it’s well worth the trade off.
I wouldn’t say one camera is better than the other, they are just different. The ZV-E1 to me is made with more of a content creator in mind. The FX30 is focused a bit more on pro video. Both cameras will produce incredible looking video, but the main differences are going to be the sensor sizes and the build of the camera body. For example, if I was going to be doing more professional video work then I would probably lean more toward the FX30 because the camera body is designed to be ripped out and it has a built-in fan. The ZV-E1 can shoot just as good video quality, but with a full frame sensor and a smaller body style that’s focused on vloggers.
