We've seen the M340i give the Audi RS4 Avant a hard time. Give credit where its due. To me, it's currently a better package than both the current the Audi RS4 & BMW M3.

I mean tbf that F80 M3 has like 75 horsepower over the M340i. You can get the M340i to 460'ish horsepower with just a simple Stage1 remap because of that beautiful B58 engine, pretty sure that would be plenty to smoke the M3 in every type of race.

I drove an m3 and was blown away at how fast it was and how it handled Next I’m installed a boot mod and some new parrrs for reliability and the new torique power it’ll have 100 more hp and 120 more torque .
@@monocuco818 well you can clearly tell that even with better reaction times, by counting the time between the two cars launching and the time difference between the 2 cars at the end, the launch time difference is nowhere near as big as the finishing difference. hence proving that the m340i is a faster car (from a dig) taking reaction times out of the equation. just shows how much of a difference awd makes from a dig.
@@waqidj I do agree with you, the m3 is a better all-round car in every other situation apart from launching from a dig. I was not attacking the fact that the m3 is a worse car but that the fact of a better driver would not change the outcome of the race. as I said the difference in time between the 2 cars launching is smaller than the difference in time between the 2 cars finishing.
I had an E90 335i for 3 years and was really impressed with the performance being the little brother to the E90 M3. Then 6 months ago I sold the 335 and got an E90 M3...no matter what you do to a non M3 it will always be the little brother and until you drive both you will never know...M performance always puts a bigger grin on my face...and the 4Lt V8 :)
Yeah I agree. I've had an E46 M3, and that was amazing. I've also had an M140i, and that was wayyyy faster than an E90 M3. Made the M3 look slow, however the M3 is ten times more special. Handling and steering was just perfect in the E90, and that amazing V8 😍
@@bananahammock3664 I actually had a race from a standing start with a M140i in my E90M3 and we were neck and neck mainly due to his turbo lag between gears. We didn't go too nuts but I'm thinking it would have stayed level until 220km/h+
@@kwozzie yeah stock they are probably very close, but I think the E90 M3 would start to pull away quite easily above 120mph. That V8 is very strong top end. My M140i was running around 460bhp, so much quicker than stock.
Yeah I test drove the m340i and the M3... was an easy choice for me. F80 M3 by a landslide. Don't want to criticize, but my experience with both cars leads me to believe that the M3 driver is not used to his car and is not getting the best out of it. 4wd obviously faster than rwd... but the M3 is a whole other level.
I am from the UK and I do have the M340i 21 plate from brand new, and it is a monster. Especially as it only comes as Xdrive standard here with adaptive dampers also as standard. So it's sublimely comfortable and also stupid fast.

Traditional RWD M cars are more track focused due to their set up and weight distribution, equally they excel on rolling races as a result of less power loss from the engine to the wheels. This is at the cost of limited traction on launch. The next generation will feature the X drive, with the option to transition to RWD only, giving drivers the best of both.

B58 also has high compression, allowing them to build boost better from a launch plus twin scroll turbo, the b58 launches like a diesel, it was built on top of the b57 a diesel engine, which is why it has high compression
For what it is I would prefer the M340i from how close they are and the power is such a difference a used one is almost the same price the M340i and the updated interior and exterior look much better I probably thought I would never say this but well done BMW
see, i used to say that. but after owning a tuned B58 and currently owning a stock S55. i'd take the S55 anyday, even if it's slower. being able to rev out to 7k is great and the shifts are more violent up top.

The bid difference is when you come to a series of corners, the full M car just feels so much better pinned down and direct. The M340i is a great car but anything other than off the line or comfort/tech the M3 is much better.
of course it is, but value wise i'm getting the M340i xdrive, it ticks all the boxes, i'm seriously considering it as my next car, even though i love SUVs. also the new m3 got beaver teeth lmao which the other 3 series thankfully don't. the M340i is the sweet spot for a luxury/sport car, it covers both evenly and can work as a daily, if someone has more cars for different occasions then of course the M3 is better.
The results were to be expected. Perhaps the presenter should have spoken more about the M340i Xdrive being all wheel drive and so better of the line. The M3 comp driver had 1 excellent dig... it just looked bad next to the Xdrive launch.

Debating should replace my 2013 335i with this. Went for a test drive and darn thing was light years from my car technology wise. Power, stock m340i felt way more powerful than my 335i with BM3 stage one tune.
Assuming i wanted this size of car my personal answer would be the m340i if for no other reason than service cost and intervals, those full M cars are epic fun but gosh can they hurt when the bills come in

You got the jump every time. Even ignoring the all wheel drive (in which case you should have still pulled ahead momentarily) you were getting a head start on the M3 driver. But I didn't buy my M3 zCP for drag racing. If that is what I wanted I would have spent my $85K on a used GTR or Tesla Model S. It's for the complete driving experience and intangibles of owning what I feel is the best looking 4 door out there. Hell there are those that still prefer the v8 in the e90 even though its slower. Owning a M car is just a different beast than anything else in my opinion.
I agree but for most people 340i is way better value. b58 is another beast compared to n54, n55, and even the s55. If you don’t plan on tracking the car the 340i should be your choice. Newer M cars aren’t justified for the money. Older M cars however are still special.
The M340i is the better buy for more every day use because of the AWD option and its actually affordable and fun speed. 90% of people complaining "oh this isn't a true M" probably don't even have an M or ever come close to being able to use it's full potential if they do.
Exactly. Full M cars are track cars if you want to get the full potential out of them. Probably not much fun to drive around town every day though. The m340i is so great because it is a good everyday car, but can still get relatively close to full M car performance. It’s right in the Goldilocks zone for me. Besides, on the road, winning a race is more to do with how reckless you want to be than how powerful the car is.
Id rather a M340d, gutted and tuned, to 600 ft-lbs (800 nm) torque and outrun everything including the new M3. I'm in America and have a tuned E90 335D.. it eats the M3/M4 stock like mash.
There isa reason why my X5M E70 has destroyed all 7 Hellcats from every dig start. Launch control , AWD, and fat tires for grip. I am 2 cars ahead by 70 and only by 90 do they start to pass me. Race is already over by then.
Warmer rear wheels = more grip which translate to more power put on the ground then more speed. That's what happens on third round even though the car was not launched.
I never ever really race with anyone on public road, so i'd choose the F80 M3 it just looks sexier with wider flares and aggressive body lines. Driving experience is also motorsport biased. It can also be mapped to 600bhp easily and keep up with Ferrari on Autobahn...

Just Bought my 2022 M340, The Dealer Installed JB4 Before I took Delivery. It will NOT void Warranty. Definitely felt a Difference compared to the Stock Version. The tech estimates the car has close to 440-450 HP. I’m still breaking in the car, It feels Pretty fast. I did have some fun other day when a New Toyota Supra that caught me off guard, We were stopped at a traffic Light and I had my car in “Sport Plus” But I didn’t turn off Traction control, anyway when light turned Green and we started to roll, he jumped on his car and I was playing Catch up, Turns out he had some Mods as well in that “Same Engine” Under the hood, Down pipe along with a Tune. I couldn’t Catch him, he was so slightly pulling away from me. I was impressed But I was also caught off Guard. absolutely Fun Machine. I have a 2019 Grand sport As well, I would love to see that 1/4 mile Run! The M340 Is a Great everyday Car that has A lots of “Balls”!
The F80 is the best daily hands down. Its the last raw M3 to be produced and has everything you would want in a M car. It just does it well. You only buy m340i for the xdrive and newer interior. The F80 has more than enough tech for a daily. Plus you drive a real M car.
Let's not forget the potential of the B58 too. It even sounds better than the S55 with very little mods! The M3 is definitely the more driver-focussed car though.
F80s launch control is always hard to get perfect. 1st gear on an m3 is pointless since is just going to spin alot. You should of done a run without launch control. Those m340i's are fast. Cant wait to see the new g80 m3.
that's the advantage of xDrive , you don't need a specially prepared strip to effortlessly launch a AWD car. Search here on RUclips a lot of these drags have been done with similar results, from a standstill F80 M3 has no chance.

It's not just the 4wd vs 2wd but you seem to have significantly better reaction time than the M3 driver.

In the real world, accelerating hard from a roll is more common than from a stop. I'd rather have more power than more launching traction.

1. Launch control is hella unreliable in these.
2. 4wd will always beat rwd off the line
Just some advice. Leave a camera by the end of the 400 meters as well.
Also do some more B-roll shots between takes or runs

Exactly. Full M cars are track cars if you want to get the full potential out of them. Probably not much fun to drive around town every day though.
The m340i is so great because it is a good everyday car, but can still get relatively close to full M car performance. It’s right in the Goldilocks zone for me. Besides, on the road, winning a race is more to do with how reckless you want to be than how powerful the car is.
Id rather a M340d, gutted and tuned, to 600 ft-lbs (800 nm) torque and outrun everything including the new M3.
I'm in America and have a tuned E90 335D.. it eats the M3/M4 stock like mash.

Remember the m3 comp is basically tuned. Just a simple tune on the m340i would be very close

There isa reason why my X5M E70 has destroyed all 7 Hellcats from every dig start. Launch control , AWD, and fat tires for grip. I am 2 cars ahead by 70 and only by 90 do they start to pass me. Race is already over by then.
The last standing start run doesn't add up considering how comprehensively the M3 was beaten in the first two runs. M340 is a hell of a car.
On the third run, the M3 didn’t use launch control and actually ended up getting a better start. Thanks for watching!
Warmer rear wheels = more grip which translate to more power put on the ground then more speed.
That's what happens on third round even though the car was not launched.
I never ever really race with anyone on public road, so i'd choose the F80 M3 it just looks sexier with wider flares and aggressive body lines. Driving experience is also motorsport biased. It can also be mapped to 600bhp easily and keep up with Ferrari on Autobahn...
M3 faster anyway just not 0-60

I have been drining an F80 for three years and concidering M340i next... primarily looking for more suspension comfort and smoother gearbox, esspecialy in daily city driving

I got a jb tune, dpipes, cold air and exhaust on my M340i. Easley take on M3’s and M4’s. B58 sounds amazing too. S58 = monster

M3 F80 comp = 450 horsepower.
Considering how close these races were with a standard (370 horsepower) M340i, imagine how easily it will eat the M3 with a stage1 tune and similar horsepower.
Also the m3 driver had a delayed reaction for launching, made the gap even bigger.
It’s so interesting tough call - the m3 is entirely another level, especially the g80 m3
M340i remaps to over 450bhp. Its an animal. New M3 will be 510bhp stock and remap to 600bhp. Will be unbelievable.
New remaped m3 will smoke stock m5, taking in account its lower weight of course.

Just Bought my 2022 M340, The Dealer Installed JB4 Before I took Delivery. It will NOT void Warranty. Definitely felt a Difference compared to the Stock Version. The tech estimates the car has close to 440-450 HP. I’m still breaking in the car, It feels Pretty fast. I did have some fun other day when a New Toyota Supra that caught me off guard, We were stopped at a traffic Light and I had my car in “Sport Plus” But I didn’t turn off Traction control, anyway when light turned Green and we started to roll, he jumped on his car and I was playing Catch up, Turns out he had some Mods as well in that “Same Engine” Under the hood, Down pipe along with a Tune. I couldn’t Catch him, he was so slightly pulling away from me. I was impressed But I was also caught off Guard. absolutely Fun Machine. I have a 2019 Grand sport As well, I would love to see that 1/4 mile Run! The M340 Is a Great everyday Car that has A lots of “Balls”!
The F80 is the best daily hands down. Its the last raw M3 to be produced and has everything you would want in a M car. It just does it well. You only buy m340i for the xdrive and newer interior. The F80 has more than enough tech for a daily. Plus you drive a real M car.
So much for the beloved "Full M" car....these dudes are funny. Thier both M cars...one is just more track focused.

The new G80 M3 and M5 are the only awd Bmw cars that have the ability to switch awd and rwd. You have to buy a true M car for that option.

Let's not forget the potential of the B58 too. It even sounds better than the S55 with very little mods! The M3 is definitely the more driver-focussed car though.
F80s launch control is always hard to get perfect. 1st gear on an m3 is pointless since is just going to spin alot. You should of done a run without launch control. Those m340i's are fast. Cant wait to see the new g80 m3.

that's the advantage of xDrive , you don't need a specially prepared strip to effortlessly launch a AWD car. Search here on RUclips a lot of these drags have been done with similar results, from a standstill F80 M3 has no chance.
The M comp and regular M3 run the same 1/4 mile times. You are talking a 19hp difference between the two.
