    Lol thats me on s55 race with my m4 e85 vs redeye. To add to your video I have put almost 38k race miles running only full e85 almost at 600whp and have over 100 races running at that power level. Only issues I have had in my last three years and 38k miles racing were spark plugs/ ignition coils / fuel injectors. I testify for s55 being one of the best engines in the world

They are already underrated from factory especially in the Supra Mk5, putting to the ground basically what they claim at the crank. Having now owned an n54, it can make about 600 whp reliably as pistons can fail as low as 650, however than can make 700 reliably if you modify it very well (and if you have one of the stronger 07 or is motors) however maintenance on these is very costly and it is costing me a great deal right now. The only problem with these motors is that it takes a lot more money than you think to make the power and make them reliable

      I don't think it's underrated. It's just that for a lot of us car guys, we either don't have the money to buy a newish BMW with less mileage and a warranty, or the money to maintain a high mileage BMW. It's just better horsepower per dollar to go with an LS or coyote, both of which would be more reliable at higher mileage than the BMW. But we can't deny that, if done properly, a modded BMW turbo inline 6 is a force to be reckoned with.

    Owning N54 with two-three bolt on parts and simple Stage 1+ tune from MHD I can't say a bad thing about this car. I'm surprised it's that reliable after hearing all these horror stories. Yeah, it has these expensive injectors, water pump, HPFP but not gonna lie, FCP Euro got you covered. In case of injectors though, you don't need to replace them. Yeah, I know that's shocking but all you need to do most of the time is clean injector tips and replace teflon seals, that's all. I have plans to chase the power but I'm not sure if I really need it. 390hp that MHD claims (never dyno'ed, idk if it's true) is enough for me and I don't know if making car less reliable is worth doing all these mods. Toyota saw potential in the b58 and that says it all
    There was a comparison drag race between an mustang Mach 1 auto vs MKV Supra 3.0 vs Nissan Z auto. The Z came in dead last and the mustang and Supra tied, b58 swings above its weight class and its already beating its direct competition

    • @joshreynolds729
      @joshreynolds729 Год назад +5

      Above it’s class? All of those cars are equally expensive. I watched the video and the mustang won by half car being na then the Supra turbo then the z also turbo both are lighter On forced induction and still lost to a na mustang Mach 1 which is just a track GT 🤣. Now is it probably the king of all inline 6 motor yep sure is but I’m not a fan of aluminum blocks either. It is impressive but would be nothing without a lot of boost and light weight saving. I prefer to make big power without having to even change my power adder or internals, weight saving can be had later. Boosted motors are not reliable and the more power you push through it the less it becomes. Also bmw has many electrical problems but the design is strong being an inline motor due to balance but only matters if the internals can handle it because the design flaw is torsion having 6 inline subject to snapping cranks and doing block damage but needs boost available to which it does not stock therefore it incomplete and might as well get the 2 extra cylinders if I’m going to build anyways for 1000 plus hp something these cars can’t do unless built on a lot of boost. Mustangs don’t need to be built to make good power and they actually sound good however still aluminum block. Now for a street car daily that you can make relatively fast sure. Not my top choice but everybody seems to think it’s the fastest platform out because they watch babyaga 🤣.

Couple of months ago i had to give a tug to a friend of mine with his 190e (yes, i pulled a merc on a rope :D ) which wouldnt start and at 1 moment i received a call from the guy (i had forgoten i have a car on my tow hook) "dude, slow down, we gonna get killed" - the bro was terrified as it was *not us doing a 160km/h while pulling the car by a rope*

When it finally put it into limp mode, I changed the stock intercooler to a metal one myself and it's ran like brand new. Granted, it could've seized the motor and blown it up, but that's literally my point. How that engine ran that smooth after that is beyond me.
    I ran lucas fuel treatment through it to keep the cylinders clean and lubricated, I put a low amount of octane booster per fill up to ensure I was always running 93-94 octane and I put CRC cylinder and engine cleaner through it twice in 15k miles and it purred like a kitten.

It only came in manual and all the suspension parts including the brakes were taken from the e92 m3. Also the turbos on the BMW 1M n54 are slightly bigger than the other n54s. You will buy your competitors products, take a close look at them, do some tests with them and then come up with something own that incorporates some of the good qualities of the competitors while preferably not having the bad qualities and being cheaper. As long as you don't copy something that is patented everything is fine. Look at Stark Future for example. They built a new kind of electric motocross bike. They openly said that to not have to do the research on frame stiffness where they have no previous experience in, they bought all other motocross bikes from big manufacturers and tested their frame stiffness. They then came up with their own frame built around their component layout that has similar stiffness characteristics to all the other frames. So they didn't copy anything because they needed a totally different frame anyway, but they derived their target values from researching competitors products.

So, foe example, this XXZ engine cane I the 2015-2018 MERCEDES C55 AMG cars. Also, maybe make a video on the AMG "light" cars (C43 , etc) vs the "true" AMG cars (C63, etc,) so that people know what they're buying.

    This is why turbo 6 cylinder engine or converting natural aspirated 6 cylinder into a turbo or twin turbo setup has the potential to be V8 killers. If you swap the the 2 factory turbos in a N54 with aftermarket low inertia turbochargers such as 2 Garrett GBC 20-300 turbos, you can make 600 hp with very little turbo lag.

      I thought modern plugs REALLY did last much longer ? How much does it cost to do the plugs, do you do it , need special tools or by BMW or independent import garage ? I am terrified of used German cars watching friends get whacked with them . I want to believe they are not a bad bet as a value prop as used car if you want to drive rich on a middle class budget but i both see in real life and certainly hear on social that its a risky proposition . I have a friend who finally covered and garaged his BEAUTIFUL low mileage V-10 M-5 he got for 20 something after dropping another 20K on stuff , then a year later did all brakes /tires and a few other small things for 10k and thinking he was good for another 50K and something else failed , he wont talk about after he was always on about his V-10 M-5 . He has like 4-5 BMW and Ducatti motorcyles and likes ' Nice Stuff" and has some money but dont ask him about that Cherry M-5 if you want him in a good mood. Its a pretty cool rocket couch when it runs but not worth the 50-60K he has into it now considering its sidelined .

Great engine if you keep it maintained, and can be extremely reliable. The lack of reliability is USUALLY driver error. But they never admit to it, and blame the engine or car instead.
