This movie will be a reference for film students. Never has a movie made in India where death is examined and studied in such a unemotional but extremely detailed manner. Great review mam !!!
I don't know if it was completely unemotional, but it had layers to the film. Like those two men in the fishing shack giving commentary, that are really something beyond. I agree that it would be an excellent film to study -- for the way it built up tension, and also the strongly developed characters.
@@PardesiReviews I think those men where Angels from hell and heaven respectively. In the first they say that they are always on time and they seem to know what's going on even when they don't directly participate in it.
How Come Only malayalam movies are so damn realistic drama and so beautiful crafted .... Why in other languages in india is not such possible ....kerala is having Spectacular audiences
It's amazing they released this in US. Unfortunately very few Malayalam films release in London and these days I manage to catch the few that come on Netflix. Angamaly is on my to see list.
Hi mam, .... I am a regular viewer of your malayalam movie reviews.. i appreciate you for the effort you put into this film freternity to get a wide range of publicity, which we keralites even hardly do and i also notice that your reviews are absolutely spot on its positive and you never discouraged or disappointed us.... Thank you... Keep it up...
Thank you so much! FYI I won’t be able to see Lucifer right when it opens as I’m traveling on vacation out of the country. I’ll see it as soon as I can when I return.
I watched it twice on Dailymotion . Even after watching Jallikattu story wise I would still say this is the best Lijo movie. Jallikattu though is technically more exciting and unique with the shots and sounds but you don't emotionally connect to any character in Jallikattu. Ee. Mau.Yau has fantasy elements too. If you observe carefully the Fathers character stands in a prayer position a few moments before his death . The other character who was digging the pit for Eecy's father also was in a prayer position before death. Indicating they knew they were going to die . The funeral possession you see in the first shot . Is actually eesy's father dreaming about a grand funeral for him
Ragarding Jallikattu, yes, you are absolutely right. Technically brilliant, stunning visuals and the idea of exposing beastility of human beings is great. But,the depth and philosophy of Ee.Ma.Yau can not be matched in Jallikattu and Angmalay Diaries...
Did you realise priest's role is done by Dileesh Pothan who is director of filim Thondimuthal, maheshinte prathikaram etc. In Kerala many directors also acts in some other directors films .
I had forgotten that he was the director of that. The way the Malayalam cinema community does that -- a director of one film will then act in one of a friend's is just so unique and special. One of the things I love about Malayalam Cinema.
The almost comical wailing you see is extremely realistic and is part of almost every death in the coastal Christian community. I am part of this community and it is so relatable. Your observations are spot on and it made me watch this movie a second time!
It's an Awesome movie... It’s dark, emotional and hilarious.. Like Angamaly Diaries, everyone act well... Especially Chemban Vinod, Vinayakan & Dileesh Pothen ♥️♥️♥️ Hats off to Lijo Pellisheri.. 😍👍 Btw Nice review ma'am... 👌 I have a small request for you.. Please watch and review Mammootty movies also.. Like Mohanlal, He is also a legendary actor of Indian Cinema.. hopefully... 😎
I had been waiting for ur review Melanie mam..watched this movie w/ my family last month..loved it..i got emotional watching the climax scene. tnx for the review
Great Review which makes the wordings of the director Lijo Jose Pellissery true which was "local is international" he also added wearing suite and driving luxury vehicles in movies based on kerala doesn't mean international standard, but showing real things as it is makes it international. Thank you madam.
Thanks hem stephen! Each person has their own take, and I can't touch the brilliance of someone like Baradwaj Rangan. I don't know much about filmmaking and the technical aspects, but I can speak to what touches my heart. And this film effected me deeply.
There are no stars or heroes in malayalam industry, well not anymore. There are only actors and actresses. They chose their roles depending upon on the characters that they has to play and they just transform into it. No stardom, no heroism nothing you can see one actor playing a rapist or serial killer in a movie, and the next movie he will be the victim, or the hero, may be in another movie he has a support role. Seriously in which other industry you can see a mega star like mammootty who holds 3 national awards for best actor plays a negative role, well not just a negative role rather a psycho serial killer and in the climax he won and success fully kills the heroine (ref: Munnariyippu). Can you even think about such a story line??? and dont even think about any superstar from any other industry chooses such a character at his or her prime. Same goes with Fahad Fazil in 22FK, Prithwiraj in ,mumbai police, Soubhin in Parava etc....
Exactly. It’s something truly special and also a director of one movie may act in another friend’s film. That ending and Mammootty’s evil grin will haunt me forever!
i watched Munnariyippu in theater without having any idea what is it all about and most of the audience were in same situation as this movie didnt have much promotions and all. I still remember at the end of the film everybody was looking so shocked and confused while leaving the theater. I am not even exaggerating almost everyone were shocked like got a smash on their head with a hammer or something. And i saw a wife was asking her husband "What the hell did just happened there??".
No heroism? It’s still happening man. Pulimurugan and The Great Father, two recent superstar films that have become blockbusters. But yes compared to other industries Malayalam is far more matured.
Anoop,, I saw Munnariyippu without seeing a trailer or anything, so I was also left with my mouth hanging open at the end. Like being struck with a hammer is too right!
Sounds like a very interesting movie, unfortunately missed it as it literally played for just one day in the theater before it was pulled off... Never could have guessed the storyline from the trailer that they released...
My favourite review of ee ma yau so far..u have described the essence of the film so beautifully giving attention to the people behind it where it mattered..:)
Wonderful review as always. I watched it in Maveli theatre in New York where they play Malayalam movies and loved it. I was so into the movie that I actually thought it was raining outside and got a surprised look from my wife when I said about umbrella. when we came out after the movie it was actually raining and I would have been surprised if it wasn’t . You might already know, this - the priest is Dileesh Pothen (maheshinte and thondimuthalum) and producer is Aashiq Abu ( mayanadhi, salt and pepper, 22FK etc - and also Dileesh was an assistant director of Aashiq)
I had forgotten that he was the director of that excellent film. It's such a tight knit cinema community in Kerala! The sound of that rain was so immersive!
Member means the local governments representative of/for the village. So in India, we have the country, divided into states->districts->blocks/taluk->panchayath->ward (village), Here Vinayakan plays the ward member, he is a local politician.
Please review mammotty movie Babasaheb Ambedkar, its a indian film with English language historical film so you don't have to translate it you could watch it in you tube.
it is indeed a classic unfortunately the majority malayalis didn't want it. the most clapped scene in the movie was chemban slapping the priest which shows that the laymen like to react aggressively towards the bullshit clergy in Kerala
Plzz react mam to Mamootys new movie ABRAHAMINTE SANTHATHIKAL trailer and teaser..... Superb trailer and teaser like The Great Father.... And also react to Tovino Thomas new movie trailer MARDONA..... Amazing trailer wonderful.... Plzzz react to this to malayalam movie trailers.....

Hey Shanaz, you should also check out Marathi films.. Even they make amazing and realistic films 😃
clarifying the usage of 'member' part, every village is divided into wards and represented by a member.

Ben smith Angamaly Diaries is a must see.

I agree. It’s just stunning
💯 i agree
