  • I got hold of this David White Stereo Realist camera on ebay for a good price. This is my first ever stereo camera and my first time attempt on stereo photography.
I like how this camera is built - just a tank! It is also easy to service and the camera can be easily disassembled for cleaning or servicing.
In this video, I will take you through the basic operations and also shot a roll of Ilford HP5 and have it processed as black and white slides.

I recently got one Realist, my first stereo camera. It is fun and not so akward to use as many may say. Also made a reassembly video if someone is interested. Thanks for the upload.

A stereo slide viewed through a stereo viewer is the only form of film photography that is still superior to digital. I have this same camera but with the 2.8 lens and have been using it since the 1970s.

Hope to get a good copy of the f2.8 version too

@@AnaloguePT Unlike the three element 3.5 version, the 2.8 four element lenses are cemented together. Sometimes there is cement separation or fungus between elements, which is too expensive to fix. My advice is to reject such a problematic camera unless the price is so low that it has value as a parts camera. If the rest of the camera is minty, you could always swap the lens assembly from another Realist 2.8 which has good lenses but bad cosmetics.

Thank you @MolliGelf for writing me a comment but somehow RUclips has removed the comment. I can only write it from the email notification YT sent me. I think it is because of the URL to Photrio inside the comment. nevertheless thank you for writing.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know it did that! 😔
I hope my actual comment made it to your email and not just a notification.
Either way, thank you for the time and effort you put into making this video. It was very helpful.
I used my stereo viewer for paper Stereoscopic prints to view your photos. The last one (from memory) worked particularly well. Excellent work 😁

Stereo Photography in 2021 is very impressive, but I'm almost more impressed by the black and white slides! very important for stereo photography as color slide films continue to be discontinued. Did you have the black and white slides processed at a lab or did you do it yourself? It's a rare service to be offered commerically and home processes seem very experimental.
