For the environment when I read about the damage dogs have and are doing to nature and parks and public places through their existence - not to mention the production of dog food . Can anyone see they ought to let their dogs die and not go adopt more ? Stop breeding em , folks!

Great video!, I became vegan 2 years ago at 48 years of age, my life changed in 2016 when I had an awakening and realised that I was living my life from a script and it wasn't making me happy, I had a good think about what makes me happy and then decided to buy a tent and start wildcamping, it made me so happy, then turned my garden into a garden for pollenaters, my passion is the natural world, it's what I loved to do when I was a child, when I'm out camping it's so calm and soothing it's like therapy and costs next to nothing, I have many beautiful places to visit in the future, I know exactly what I want in life now!

My husband and I became Vegan at 55, then gave up alcohol 3 years later. I think our family is quite disappointed that we no longer share their love of wine and the rich, meaty feasts they still enjoy. To some extent It does me feel that I’ve distanced myself from them in some way as food and booze is such a huge part of their lives, but sometimes you just have to follow a different path. It isn’t easy being different but I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks for your insights. The main one I’ve taken from this video is “It’s a tragic thing to live your life to please others”.

I have the same situation. My family, sometimes, won’t send us an invite to functions. They think we are weird, because we don’t eat animals. I think we are forward thinking and way ahead of what is eventually going to happen anyway. I believe in the future, people will be shamed for eating animals, much in the same way cigarette smokers are shamed today.

@@DonnaTheDogGroomer You have it worse than us I think. My family still invite us (as far as I’m aware!) though we usually take our own food to make it easier for them. They did once say they thought we were ‘noble’ for not eating animals, which we thought rather odd. Personally I think that not killing an animal when you can eat beans instead just makes you a basically decent human being. And you’re right with the cigarette analogy; the line “We’re not mad, we’re just fro the future!” springs to mind. It makes me sad that my family will never change.

    • @DonnaTheDogGroomer

@@mangelwurzel476 I find out accidentally when they don’t invite us. I barely go on Facebook anymore, because inevitably at least one family member posts a pic on there and it hurts my feelings we weren’t invited. We bring our own food too. I think we remind them that what they are doing is cruel. They don’t want to feel guilty for eating them, even though we don’t say anything. Our actions speak to them. It’s usually thanksgiving when they feel they HAVE to include me. They used to do my sister that way too, but it was because they don’t like her husband. She passed in February. I don’t care for her husband either, btw.

I've always felt like the odd one out for so many reasons throughout my life, but I often find joy in not being exactly like everyone else. Why would I want to be like everyone else? So many struggle with things like depression, anxiety, and deep debt. I don't want that. I like having time and the space to lose myself in my thoughts and imagination. I love traveling and will actually travel rather than vacation like most others. I live life a little differently, and I'm happy with that.
It amazes me how people are so concerned with why others aren't drinking. Some people struggle with alcoholism and don't need to be badgered. I'll never understand that one. Who cares if you don't drink?

I tried to landscape my little lot on the edge of a national forest but find it useless to cut back what wants to grow to try to force things that don't wish to. This year I have gathered various native wildflower seeds to see if I can't make a bit of a compromise with nature.
I like that you have figured this out for yourself at such a young age. I grew up in a large family always knowing I was different but thinking it was me that was wrong. One of the most power phrases I have learned when people don’t get my new life choices and being different to others and not hiding it any more is “ it’s your issue not mine” and as you say if you are not harming anyone and it feels right for you it does not matter what others think!

    • @Kittiesinclair5
      @Kittiesinclair5 Год назад

That’s an accurate thing to say however nowadays its very likely to be seen as a confrontation or attack on that other person. People are VERY defensive about their own choices and do NOT like any suggestion that their decision is one of several valid possibilities. Then, they get offended and lash back at you, either in the moment or sometime later. Might be in the form of malicious gossip about you, or damage to your property. You may want to avoid using the word’you’ and find a different way to say this same thing. Ideally, something a bit abstract which wont be understood by people of the judgemental mindset…

@@hippyhighlandliving at the time of doing the things I did it didn't feel brave or even like a choice, it was necessary. For veganism I read the book SKINNY BITCH and was shocked at what I didn't know and shocked at what we were doing to animals and I went vegan on the spot and have never looked back. When I gain information and see the truth I have no choice but to do the right and honest thing.
To this day I don't understand how anyone can make some other "choice". No, they are going against truth, they are hurting themselves, hurting the animals and the planet. They are deluding themselves, they are telling themselves lies.
Anyhow, with all the steps I've done, they didn't seem radical or weird or crazy or any of the other things people call them, they were just right or necessary or made sense or just plainly crazy NOT to change in the way I did.
Now looking at the world, I am truly aghast and confused how 99% of people still aren't vegan, still buy massive vehicles, still have 5,000 sq ft houses, still make all these "choices" that go against what they know is right, against nature, against animals, against the world and are plainly not truthful.
Maybe I'm just weird like everyone says. Maybe I just need to be more selfish and uncaring and should disregard everyone else & the only planet we have to live on.
But I never could. It would be wrong and dishonest to the truths I now know.

I'm also in the Highlands and equate to this so much. I am neurodivergent and it has acounted for so much of my ' differences'. And I love them. I found myself looking at photos on social media this morning of folk at s 50th and it almost brought me out in hives. Your mug is beautiful and heading to Perth in a fortnight so might go via speyside and Aberfeldy rather than down the A9

Be unique, live how you want, be free. I have always been a bit different, and I am finally embracing and enjoying me, as I am, different, and loving every minute of it. I live in a tiny dry cabin in Alaska and am a minimalist, most people say they could never live this way, but most don’t understand the freedom that this life brings. ❤

I just recently became vegetarian slowly incorporating vegan things in my life because of health problems and PCOS and I've never felt healthier. I'm also a hoarder turned minimalist because of my autism, ADHD and anxiety and depression. Never have I felt so free. I also love living off grid and reading my Bible daily. It's given me fresh air I've never felt before.

Thank you so much for this mindful content, if I could, I would unite all the "odd ones" so we feel just a little less alone as I'm sure there are many of us out there with similar values.
I recently started thinking about how my "values" (veganism, non-drinkin, and I'm also big on zero waste too) how these values slowly morph into being "restrictions/rules" that give me a huge sense of guilt whenever I reassess them - not sure how you find that...
Like I'd like to keep bees - for saving them, for my mental health, for spending more time in nature and least importantly for harvesting a minimal amount of honey - but in a vegan's eye that's animal exploitation... So anyway, I personally find that having a "why" as you've said is so important and reassessing that why so it comes from a compassionate, heartfelt place instead of a sense of guilt is very important.
Thank you for the lovely, thought provoking content 🦋

Lovely vid. Cool to find so many similar people replying on here. I'm 54, turned veggie at 16, mostly vegan. tee-total and enjoy the simple things in life. I'd also add being a punk into the equation, so I'm definitely on the high scale on weirdness. I learnt to embrace it from the get go as I had penpals around the world who were similar, nothing like this back in the 80's. Enjoy your life and being real.

You are describing attributes that I have had my whole life, chiefly among them: always being the odd one out. But it's never bothered me (not most of the time anyway). The only time it bothers me is when I'm at a large party and would rather be reading or doing anything other than making small-talk and watching people get pickled! LOL... So when I have to go to these things, I am usually exhausted from the effort of making small talk for however many hours. I'm much more partial to small gatherings with interesting conversation. Vegan: same; minimalist: almost, but not quite as amazing as you! Childfree (to be differentiated from 'childless'): check. I guess the universe has a way of bringing like-minded beings together. Love your new mug; oh yes: another passion of mine: handmade mugs! Perhaps there are other dimensions that we may come from in another life, who knows...? But it always fascinates me, finding humans in the smaller percentage of demographic like oneself. The takes in your videos of nature... could watch all day! We just got back from a roadtrip, the objective was to visit National Parks... it was amazing: wildlife and nature; and interestingly, the moment we entered the NP proper, the energy was entirely different to what was outside of these places. The animals were different (happy); it was palpable. Perhaps beings like us also have a deeper connection with the world? (I also don't drink.) 😊

I love being different and the odd one out. I dont want to be like everyone else that society expects. It shows individualism and character and surely that makes us more interesting to engage with. I dont care what society thinks. But I do care about what makes 'me' happy and that's all that matters.

I love it, since 2020 my husband and I have decided that things don't mean so much anymore and we are getting off the consumerism wheel, we are not going to buy any more stuff no more Christmas presents no more birthday presents no more stuff, we will try to purchase what we need secondhand through thrift stores or goodwills, we have started to compost and are trying to cut down our waist. We have drastically reduced our water usage and our electricity bill, we have become frugal and minimalist we are pushing back against the capitalist system which is not sustainable for anyone anywhere especially not our Earth or our relationships. We must let our egos go and get rid of greed.

Unbelievable photography and narration. And the doggie shots 💞🐶🐾 Thank you for opening up the world to special people like us.🍁🌠🍂
But the thing is, we're not "odd." We're the cool ones of the future. People who are not vegans or vegetarian, or who aren't animal lovers, or who aren't minimalist, and who are trapped with another person and in consumerism and materialism ... these people are dead inside and they're in a prison of their own making. And they know that they're trapped in h*ll ... that's why your channel and others similar to yours (van life; stealth camping; etc) do so well.
We all know that we're trapped and so many of us are trying to break free and be like you. You're the future. 💞

Hi, so much of what you say resonates with how I feel now at 45. The problem I have is blending the me that I am now with the life I constructed when I was a very different person.
I’m Vegan in a family of 4 where my husband and children are not vegan.
I eat mainly WFPB food in a family that loves junk food.
I don’t drink in a family and extended family where I’m frowned upon for being ‘uptight’ and not joining in.
Im more and more minimalist in a house where my husband obsessively hunts ‘bargains’ and gets a buzz out of buying his finds.
I feel drawn to a life based in nature and the spiritual side of life and yet I help run a family retail business.
I’m very introverted and feel judged for not wanting to sit in pubs for hours every week, I would rather be reading a book!
I feel conflicted every day as the life that I live suited me so well 10 years ago and yet now it feels like I’m trying to fit into someone else’s shoes.
Maybe if I cared less what people thought of me I would be able to just be who I am now and let the rest move on around me without worrying so much about it x

The biggest problem I have is how to to find someone to share my life with. So many people are all about money and alcohol it gets disheartening after a while. I've very much moving towards a slower life which is hard in a world that only seems to be speeding up. Good on you for stepping out of the mainstream.

I've been an edge dweller all my life and for the last 10 years I've been shedding all that isn't authentically me. I agree with what you say about the people pleasing programme. It feels like an important space in time for all of us to be living more simply, deeply connected to ourselves, listening to the land and the rest of nature. My heart call and intention is to step out of the system and into a beautiful tiny home made of natural materials and become more self sufficient. I can see, smell and feel it!

I really appreciate you sharing your story. Not subscribing to society's narrative does seem to take a bit of confidence, but ultimately when you know in your heart that you're living your own authentic journey you can always find a way to continue on your path, regardless of what's happening around you. Of course, not everyone will come from the perspective that we're all at varying stages of our own journey and that each path may look noticeably different from some of the more common narratives, and that's okay too. There is no good or bad, just what's right for the individual. My narrative of a primarily plant-based diet and no drugs, alcohol, coffee, social media, Netflix, cable TV, or materialism doesn't align very well with the culture around me, and I've never been happier...😊

My day has just improved - I have just discovered your channel while skimming through RUclips. Like others here Molly, I am much older than you but live similarly apart from the tiny house. I live in South Australia, have been vegan for many years, adore animals ( we have a beautiful golden retriever) and have never tasted alcohol. This alone has made me socially unacceptable many times early on in my life, but thankfully attitudes are much more accepting in these progressive days of healthy lifestyle choices. Unfortunately most of my extended family (including my children) are meat eaters. It can be a lonely path we tread so it is lovely that there are many likeminded people on forums such as yours. It can even be difficult finding a medical professional who doesn't think you are malnourished if you dare to be vegan! I now look forward to catching up with your other videos. Your fur baby is adorable by the way. Warm wishes. 🐾🦋
