Rehearsal rehearsal rehearsal, touring touring touring and recording straight to the tour bus and on the road. Probably the hardest working band ever. From the times at the hell house all the way to the plane crash. They were working. There is a great documentary about them I watched. They memorized every solo and Ronnie never wrote down any lyrics because if it wasn’t worth remembering then it wasn’t worth playing. I loved that band.
Yep, and they had worked so hard for so long, that they probably could have taken a break after their latest tour! They all, except maybe Steve Gaines (since he had just joined the band) would have had a decent nest egg saved up by then. They could have gone fishing for a year or two before they had to go back to work! Just another example of how "lifes not fair!" Dudes worked their asses off, ..then died (or got seriously busted up) just before they could really enjoy the fruits of their labor!
This is my favorite LS album! “You got that right” and “I never dreamed” are a must listen from this album. Steve Gaines was a wonderful guitarist and writer. He was breathing new life into Skynyrd. This music is classic.
Ronnie demanded nothing but the best from them he wasn't one to mess around. He would put them in their place really fast but the end results was magnificent. Nobody today is as tight as they were just professional musicians period. REST IN PEACE LYNYRD SKYNYRD ❤
Everyone here in the Jacksonville area has a “claim to fame” story about their connection to Lynyrd Skynyrd. I’ve got several, the best of which is my father was Billy Powell’s financial advisor in the early 2000s (just before my dad retired). My pops didn’t know Skynyrd from Elvis, yet Billy invited him over to his home on the west side here and played piano for my dad, saw all his platinum records and got me some autographed pics!😂 Prior to his visit, I remember educating my father as to who they were, that they were a major act-not some little bar band!
Me too. I was stationed in Mayport in the late 80's then lived on in OP and Greencove after I got out. I met Artimus several times. At the Spin Drifter and at Shades one time. Met Judy Grodin at a Christmas party in GCS thrown by 38 specials road manager. Lol.
Roger that! I grew up in Fleming Island. Oh, the “success rate” (if ya know what I mean) I had at Shades back in the day would make Gene Simmons blush.😂😂😂😂😂😂 Ah, the good ol’ days..
Saw them on July 4, 1976 at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Great concert. It was The Outlaws. Blue Oyster Cult, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top. Poor ZZ, nobody follows Skynyrd. Saw them 2 more times after the crash, but of course, it wasn't the same. Skynyrd live was an experience.
Saw them twice that same year. First time they opened for the Doobie Brothers. The crowd was blown away and the Doobies were like WTF, how do we follow that?
It's about time someone reacted to this incredible song !!! This was written by Steve Gaines who had joined the band about 1& 1/2 years before the band died in the crash . It is much different than Ronnie Van Zant's style of writing . It's great to hear Ronnie sing someone else's song that he truley respected . This would be a song he absolutely loved . He would never have sold out . Ever . Thanks !!!
You are correct my friend. they are locked in because they practiced in the shack for months at a time. The lead singer had firm control over his band.
Ronnie shares vocals with Steve Gaines in the song " you got that right " Gaines was a game changer of the highest level Rip fellers your music lives on 🤘✌💞
Steve Gaines wrote the music long before joining the Skynyrd band ...RVZ (singer) changed/added lyrics and Gary Rossington added his middle guitar solo along with Powell adding the keys hence touched by the legend LYNYRD SKYNYRD!
There's always great grooves and energy in the original L.S. catalog. Total ASM (Ass Shakin' Music). A couple tunes to check out are "On The Hunt" (1 of my all time fav guitar lead tones) and "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" (great slide/lyrics).
With the addition of Steve Gaines this last album was a slight change in their style but a huge change in their sound. These guys were getting ready to head for much bigger and better things. Broke my heart when the plane went down. At my local drinking establishment there was a huge wake held. I think we crawled out around 4 a.m.
One of rock's greatest tragedies that the core of the band was stripped away by the plane crash. Ronnie and Steve were the glue at that time. Having said that I've remained a fan for 5 decades and saw them before and after............they never disappointed. This is also my favourite album of theirs................and how spooky that the flames on the cover flickered menacingly on their heads!
The singer, RVS, was a perfectionist, and he rehearsed over and over and over BEFORE they were even playing out in clubs. Ever song they did in rehearsal was followed by him saying, "One more time". I believe it may have driven some players away in the early days. Those who stuck around found out what greatness means.
Y'all are just touching the surface of a very deep catalog.Skynyrd was so damn good!.I think you will like most everything they recorded before the plane crash and lots that came later! Hope you literally do all of them.Yes they are that good!
You are so right...such tight musicians. Who knows where they would have gone. Fun party music back in the day, and to this day. Check out Workin for MCA, I Need You, I Ain't the One, Swamp Music, Mississippi Kid. Thanks for the reaction!
Searching SE ARC Hing. That's the song it's leonard skittered searching Ask the wife's man one sunny day can you help me find my way That would be the soul
An album reaction to this “Street Survivors” and their double live “One More From The Road.” Their live performances were perfectly performed because they put in the work. Tight 👈
If you guys really like Skynyrd you should watch one or two of the documentaries on them. You mentioned them being so tight. That's because they practiced every day all day in "he'll house". An old camp on the creek in shantytown. There story is something else 😮 thanks for giving me someone to listen to great music with and great job gentlemen!
Skynyrd is awesome. I had just gotten the street survivors album with the fire cover on my 17th BD which was October 20, 1977…the same day of the plane crash. After that the album cover was changed to an all black background because of rumors of ppl that died being burned, which was untrue. They did not originally have a piano player and according to a documentary I saw the were recording at Muscle Shoals when they needed a piano player and Billy Powell, who was a one of their roadies, said he could play the piano, and man could he!
I was so lucky to have seen Skynyrd live on January 1, 1975 in Macon, GA. They put on a great show... they could boogie, they could rock and they could get real serious like in "That Smell." One of my all-time favorites was, and still is, "The Ballad of Curtis Loew," a song Ronnie van Zant wrote about an old Black man who was "the finest picker to ever play the blues..." though his "Mama used to whoop me but I'd go see him again..."
Another great reaction guys. I was waiting for you guys to get to this one. On that fateful day of that horrible tragedy my world got a whole lot smaller, "I Ain't The One", and "Saturday Night Special" are a couple of good ones as well.
This is my favorite track from their last album! It showcased their newest guitarist, Steve Gaines, showing their blossoming potential n power!! Steve is the one in the middle of the album cover, wreathed in flames. The cover was changed after the crash. Such a loss n pretty much the end of Southern Rock…or at least Southern Rock of that great era!
Hi La and Che... I was lucky to see the original group in I think 1974 or 1975 ... Charlie Daniels was the opening act... academy of music...New York City ... concerts were $5 then ....
We loved this band back in the day but I think I truly appreciate them even more now. Listening to them in higher def brings out things I never noticed on our old stereos back then.
My favorite band in the world (Phish) used to cover this when they first started out back in the nineteen eighties. As far as LS was concerned, they loved to cover this, and Curtis Lowe.
Good stuff. Nasty Lynyrd Skynrd licks. Classic rock at it's best. Well done, gentlemen. Y'all need to hit "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe" and get their solid blues grounding and where it came from.
REALLY digging it that your reactions are digging Lynyrd Skynyrd. One thing on this "I know a little" song on the Street Survivors album is that😢 The album with that cover with our American band on fire, was already coming out in record stores right before the😢 damn probably Boeing plane went down. 😢😢😢 the wives🌹and girlfriends🌹of our American band stood behind Judy Wayne Van Zant to replace the album cover with the one that most of us still cherish for life. You guys are the best at Lynyrd Skynyrd Reactions Thank You!!! 🤝
A little late, you mentioned them being tight. They had a little place south of Jacksonville, FL in the country called "The Hell House" where they practiced hours on end with no A/C. Hot & humid conditions and wouldn't accept anything less than perfection. Amazing what they accomplished in their short lives. Left us in mid-20's
In my younger years I would sometimes visit a honky tonk bar called “The Hillbilly Palace” in Hazard Ky. They had a good size dance floor and anytime this song or “The Breeze” played when they had a live band, it was so fun to just get out there with your woman of choice and just freaking let go! I’m not even a good dancer but dipping and spinning your woman was so, so, so much fun!
Y’all need to watch the video of Skynyrd playing T FOR TEXAS. This is a song they only did live. In 1976, they opened for The Rolling Stones at the Knebworth Music Festival, in England. Do yourselves a favor, and watch and listen to that. You will love it.
So much more great Skynyrd to listen to!! Hope you guys do some of the live album at some point. The album is One More From the Road. Just listen to the opening cut , Workin' For MCA!! This band is meant to be listened to LIVE. But be sure that it's not after 1977. They were never the same after that plane crash.
Written and sang by Steve Gaines. He recorded it with his first band before hiring with LS, Crawdad. He was taking LS in new directions until that terrible crash. RIP Steve, Cassie and Ronnie!

You either loved this band or you didn’t, no in-between. Put the boogie in southern rock, a must play at parties (at least the good ones)….loved your reaction, you guys are pros and it shows!

Steve Gaines … what a monster player. Who knows how far he could have gone had he not died in the crash 😢
Short career but has to be one of my favorite guitarists..fast linear blues licks n funky as hell
They had so much more to give. So incredibly sad to lose them😢
Surely, you mean Ronnie.
@@JAMESMOORE-gq4vv you're stupid, right
You're right about that.
Skynyrd are the epitome of how TIGHT a band can become over the years through massive touring and rehearsals. As tight as it gets.
Absolutely! These guys were the very best of musicians in their repective instruments. Period!
Rehearsal rehearsal rehearsal, touring touring touring and recording straight to the tour bus and on the road. Probably the hardest working band ever. From the times at the hell house all the way to the plane crash. They were working. There is a great documentary about them I watched. You are spot on...they worked it and they earned it...
That's so cool about Ronnie and the lyrics. Never knew that. Mad respect.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Lives On! Generation after generation.
They are considered one of the best live bands of all time!!!

One thing about 'southern' rocks bands, the first thing you hear in their music is that they are having FUN!

Western swing, Skynyrd style. Love it.
"gimme three steps" by them should be on your short list IMO

Saturday night at the honky tonk, got my dancing shoes on and the beer is good. Back in the days when I was young.😎✌️
This album was a huge evolution for them. Production quality was their finest. Molly Hatchet were also known for their production quality.
Pronounced is their best album.
You HAVE to do "T for Texas" and "Call Me the Breeze" from the live Knebworth concert in 1976 if you want see them boogie and at their very best!!!!!
I never was a Lynard Skynyrd fan, but had to pop in for a listen. The one song they did, that did it for me.
Thanks guys
Y'all are just touching the surface of a very deep catalog.Skynyrd was so damn good!.I think you will like most everything they recorded before the plane crash and lots that came later! Hope you literally do all of them.Yes they are that good!
Long Live The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band.
MORNING GUYS! 😊OHHHHHH YEAH, THIS A COOL SONG WITH A SUPER GREAT PIANO BANG! 👍 BE WELL LA AND CHE
Good timing honky Tonkin music right there! Straight from the 70’s directly into your ears!
You are so right...such tight musicians. Who knows where they would have gone. Fun party music back in the day, and to this day. Check out Workin for MCA, I Need You, I Ain't the One, Swamp Music, Mississippi Kid. Thanks for the reaction!
“Honky tonk night time Man” is another one of those songs L.S. capturers so well. It’s an old Merle Haggard tune Worth a listen gentlemen.

Every time I hear the opening bars of this song, I always seem to hear somebody near by whisperring, hold my beer.
There was definitely some partying going on back in the day when we were listening to their music!
Thanks for covering this little gem…..great lyrics with a great piano boogie…just fun
Steve Gaines like Duane was a master slide, Rip for these two legends who didn't have enough time to blossom
With Gary Rossington gone, it's time to let RUclips and these reaction videos keep the original Lynyrd Skynyrd members immortalized for eternity.
My favorite Skynnard tune!
An album reaction to this “Street Survivors” and their double live “One More From The Road.” Their live performances were perfectly performed because they put in the work. Tight 👈
They were AWESOME!
Southern rock and the 1970's, best of times, best music!
This song was brought to Skynyrd by Steve Gaines... Steve wrote this song with his previous band Crawdad...
Every song on this album is tremendous !

There was some truly special talent in Skynyrd during its original run but for my money none were as all around talented and with more potential than Steve Gaines. You either loved this band or you didn’t, no in-between. Put the boogie in southern rock, a must play at parties (at least the good ones)….loved your reaction, you guys are pros and it shows!
Crazy guitar work by Steve Gaines, new guy in band in flames in middle.
Plenty more from LS keep Icoming
Lynyrd Skynyrd with 13 of the Band members now decreased, they were always a 3 guitar powerhouse as they reunited, reformed, and reconstituted the band for decades. Sometimes a Band is more than the individual members, it becomes its own entity continuing on the legacy for future generations to enjoy. I don't see anything wrong with that as long as the effort is genuine and respectful of the magic of a Band.
Thanks again for another Great Reaction Fellas. Great Song.
I love this album with the addition of Steve Gaines.
I saw Skynyrd 4 times before the plane crash in '77. Charlie Daniels and the Outlaws opened for them twice.
Another great jam by Skynyrd!
Its about someone got to this little gem🤘❤️
Thanks guys for sharing keeping it real..I got to meet Ronnie van zant many years ago fox theater Atlanta Ga..never forget that concert..one more for the road... double album...
Off the same album is "Ain't no good life". Real bluesy. You'll love it.
Will be seeing them once again tomorrow night in St.Augustine, Fl !
That bass line!
This was going to be my next request on your next Skynyard reaction....LOL
Exactly!
Cooking on this track
Steve Gaines. From Miami, Ok. Badass gone too soon along with his sister and Ronnie.
Need to give Freebies at Knebworth. Greatest live version EVER!
Recently discovered you guys. I love your educated reactions. Definitely the best on RUclips.
just listen to that whole album, it's a bon a fide classic
That album cover was recalled because of the flames behind Stevie Gains and rest of the band because of the plane crash. If you got your hands on one of them, it’s worth a few bucks.
