Saw their first tour as Rossington Collin’s band after the plane crash. The energy and enthusiasm of the band members was still evident. They ended their show playing Freebird as an instrumental with the mic center stage with a spotlight on it. Emotional and moving.
Oh man... I saw that tour as well at Winterland in San Francisco. I was so crushed after the crash, and it was good to be there with the survivors. That Rossington Collins LP was solid. And yes, very emotional and touching with the Freebird closing. I was there for the Oakland 77 show as well.
I appreciate how many Lynyrd Skynyrd songs you’ve done. They are so authentic and great story tellers and those twangy guitars are insane🔥. These dudes were on top of the world when their plane crashed I 1977. Would have been one of the greatest of all time, but they still are dam good and their music have lived the test of time. So glad you’ve enjoyed and appreciated their talent. Thank you! You guys do a great job and I truly enjoy watching your videos.
Now for a couple of more underrated ones from them... "Comin' Home" and "Every Mother's Son". There's a great performance of the latter on the Old Grey Whistle Test. Cheers!
Lynyrd Skynyrd always delivered! Saw them for a New Year's Eve concert in 1976, Oakland, and saw them this last summer. Current band is nothing like the original; original Lynyrd never to be duplicated.
The "what was your name" is one of the best indicators of classic Skynyrd's subtle sense of humor. Wants to know her name enough to know her, just not enough to remember her lol.
"No corn involved." LOL, yup, same for this righteous reaction, dudes! Straight-shootin all the way thru! Skynyrd is one of THE central bands of Classic Rock. Check out "Wino," a blazing riff and Ronnie's vocals on it are some of his best!
I had tickets to see this tour. I did buy that Album day of release. Treasure it wholly. The news was tragic days later, Blessing to all for a Great 2025. Happy New Year.
That album cover is historic. It was released a couple days before the crash on 10-20-1977. Very soon after the crash, the album was pulled from the shelves and replaced with a black background and the band just standing there. How ironic, Street Survivors, but not air survivors. Hope you guys get to some of the album, One More From the Road. They were at their peak and burned up the stage on that album. PLease remember anything released after that date was not the original band. I was lucky to have seen them 3 times before the crash and I can tell you that they were the best live band back in the day! Happy New Year fellows!!
After the plane crash, the band reformed with a female singer & called themselves The Rossington Collins Band. They put out several albums & had radio hits. Check out: Don't Misunderstand Me.👍
You guys do a great job on these reactions! You have done a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I have another song for you that I know you will enjoy! The song is "T for Texas" performed live at Knebworth England in 1976! It is a song by a Jimmie Rodgers from 1927 that was Texas swing music, but Lynyrd Skynyrd put a totally different twist on it! It is an incredible jam!
Ronnie Van Zant was a Great story teller and “never” wrote any lyrics on paper etc. It was brain storming downloads! A fact many people don’t know, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, 38 Special, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet etc. came from the Westside of Jacksonville Fla. It was a rough area of the city. I lived there for a number of years and played golf and socialized with some of the members of 38 Special! Lynyrd Skynyrd had a bit of a tarnished public image with brawling and drug use that overshadowed their genius talent as a band. Ronnie Van Zant was all about the band sounding like their studio versions of tracks and they practiced a lot (Hell House) to perfect their live performances. The addition of Steve Gaines in 1976 revitalized and added a lot to the groups creativity. They had planned to go back in the studio in late 1977, but the plane crash ended what could have been their best years ahead!🙏💔🙏
Street Survivors was released on Oct 17th, 1977. Three days later, their plane went down, killing Ronnie VanZant, Steve & Cassie Gaines. I was 17 at the time, and this tragedy hit hard. The record label immediately changed the album cover by removing the flames from it. If you own the original, hold onto it. They're all gone now. All the original members have passed. RIP and fly high Freebird's. Excellent reaction as usual, gentlemen ❤
Great Job Guys!! If you haven't seen it,,,, you two would thoroughly enjoy the documentary called MUSCLE SHOALS!! It's on RUclips and it's a recording studio mentioned on the song SWEET HOME ALABAMA! Many MANY big names went through there and is where Lynyrd Skynyrd found out they had a Classically trained pianist in their road crew! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
I love your channel, your reactions are as real as the music you react to!! I’m a lifelong fan of original Lynyrd Skynyrd and it would be a real treat for both of you & your subscribers if you would react to their songs “Comin’ Home & One More Time” 🎶 🔥 Happy New Year 🎆🎊🎈 🎉
You guys should react to the song Don’t Misunderstand Me by The Rossington Collins Band. It was the band the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd formed after the plane crash. They had a female lead vocalist named Dale Krantz. It’s a great song!
I think the word is 'authentic'. Skynyrd were the best of the Southern boogie bands and struck up a huge following over here in the UK right from the get-go. Saw them before all the carnage and again at their 30 yr anniversary- always played up to the enthusiastic fanbase in London.
You guys should try to get Craig Reed on your show. He was working for the band and was in the plane crash. He also does a pod cast on RUclips and answers questions about the band and being on the road with them. Might be interesting.
On October 20th 1977, just 3 days after this record was released, Skynyrd's chartered plane ran out of fuel and crashed northeast of Gillsburg Mississippi. Ronnie Van Ant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact. Out of respect for the band members and their families , this album was pulled and the flames were removed from the cover and rereleased. There is a documentary about them and the survivors talk about the crash.
Happy New Year Laa and Chee! Hope you had a Merry Christmas also! The genius behind Skynyrd is the relativite 😊narrative behind the lyrics. Songs like, That Smell, Gimmie Three Steps, Saturday Night Special, and What’s your Name, tell a story that is easily relatable to the listener. That and the incredible 3 guitar interplay is phenomenal!
That particular picture you have showing on this album with the flames was changed at the request of Teresa Gaines, widow of one of the members Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines(his sister) were killed in the plane crash. Same picture with a black background.
I still have my copy with the flames on it! Also have a copy of the infamous Beatles butcher baby album, but that was something I bought ears and years later at a bootleg convention or something. So sad about Steve and Cassie. Steve Was just really starting to come in to his own with Lynyrd Skynyrd, and he was such a fantastic and talented edition. I really think those guys were at the top of their game right when the plane crash happened. 😢
Later on they actually released it again with the flames on the back, for the deluxe edition of Street Survivors. I too have the original vinyl with the flames.
“One of the crew had a go with a one of the guest”. Ronnie is singing here about a real incident that happened with their long time roadie and friend Craig Reed AKA The Stoned Roadie.
The picture you had up. Was the original album cover. Shortly after was the plane crash. Then they changed the cover. But you will never go wrong with Skylard ❤
Lynyrd Skynyrd for me is one of a very few bands where I like literally every single song in their catalog and I liked the live performances. The Beatles, Ten Years After, not a whole lot more. Even Led Zeppelin there are a couple songs I just don't care for, but not for Lynyrd Skynyrd. I think literally everything they ever did, including stuff you'll find on collections like from there really early Muscle Shoals recordings with Ricky Medlocke on drums with them and singing some leads now and then it was so good. He later went on to form that Native American southern rock band Blackfoot.
Ronnie Van Zant never wrote down a song lyric. He kept it all in his head. Came up with the lyrics like that. May they all rest in peace. Are the original members rest in peace, brothers and sister?
As others have mentioned, this album came out at virtually the same time as the unfortunate plane accident. The record company recalled all of the unsold albums, and re-issued it with just a dark background as the flames were edited out. Luckily, I was a huge Skynyrd fan and bought the album the day it was released so, I still have it in my 300+ LP collection to this day.
Lord luvs ducks, you guys gotta check out Boogie Motel. By Foghat . The cover is amazing you fimd new things every look. 1st cut.... Somebooody been sleeping in my bed.😅 cigarettes in the ashtray and I dont even smoke..😂 Cheers
Interesting and chilling fact: the album cover for Street Survivor with them surrounded by fire was released right before or right after(can’t remember) there plane crash and they pulled it off the shelves.
This album gave just before the airplane crushed. The record company removed the flames on the background Ido have this album with the flames. RIP to all the band members to died when the plane crash and to all that followed afterward. Thank you for all music.
No flames from the plane crash. 1. The album was released prior to the crash. 2. There was no fire in the plane crash as there was no fuel left- they ran out of gas. Facts
Little girl is a term of endearment. My dad, at 80, still calls my step mom Lil girl and she's 72.
Yeah, little girl does not necessarily mean young girl
I was gonna say. What has become of the culture where everyone is so literal minded??
@@yournamehere6002 no kidding!

“You Got That Right” is another gem. “Needle and the Spoon”….”I Ain’t the One”..
So great!!! Love me some Skynyrd baby!!!!! The original band at their peak!!!!
The best line is the “after”…”What WAS your name?” LOL
Saw their first tour as Rossington Collin’s band after the plane crash. The energy and enthusiasm of the band members was still evident. They ended their show playing Freebird as an instrumental with the mic center stage with a spotlight on it. Emotional and moving.

Great reaction! You two would also love to hear "You Got That Right" and "Don't Ask Me No Questions."
We called girls "little girl " back in the 70's. It didn't mean that they were young. It was just a saying.
