Say what you want about GT, as it has many, many, MANY flaws, but it felt like a natural progression for some of the characters based on what we see at the end of Z. Gohan gives up fighting and is a devoted scholar (which does bite him in the ass later on in the show). Vegeta lets go of his pissing contest with Goku and takes pride in being a Saiyan of Earth. Piccolo retires but still does what he can to protect the Earth. The Z group goes their separate ways. Tien becomes a recluse with Chiaotzu, Yamcha returns to the wilderness, Roshi still lives on his island and Krillin lives a normal family life with 18 & Maron. Trunks and Goten went from being dumb kids to slightly less dumb teens. Its just a shame that they decided to focus on (Kid) Goku, Pan and Trunks instead of the rest of the cast and did nothing with the likes of Majin Buu and Uub. Whereas SUPER just does nothing with everyone except Goku & Vegeta and tries to cram so many characters and events in the 5 year time span before Goku goes quiet and forgets everyone for another 5 years before the final few chapters/episodes of Z
