I've learned a lot from this show. Whenever I have a long awkward silence with someone I break it by saying, "Hey! See if you can wrestle me to the ground."
It still gets me that he isn't American irl. He captured such a bumbling weirdness to Tom's character that I would only expect from a natural American business man. I think that was the most impressive acting honestly
His accent slips through pretty frequently, so my headcanon is that he started affecting a sort of transatlantic accent in an attempt to impress/fit in with the Roys, and then it stuck. Also “I just popped ‘round to say” is the most British thing I’ve ever heard come out of a Midwesterner’s mouth lolololol.
This scene was bookended so well with the "YESSSS!" moment from episode 7. Tom knocking over the stand in this scene even foreshadowed him wrecking the entire office later on.
1:25-1:35 i love his facial expressions. out of all the tv shows i watched i feel like Succession is the only show where you can truly say they all have intentional microexpressions, especially with the way they shoot the scenes, they always have to be in character
I’m just realising that if I was a new person coming in to watch this snippet, I would totally interested and be into this show just from the dialogue from this scene alone
more like he was gonna be paraded and humiliated in the coliseum by nero rivals, after nero died. dude had no choice of anything in his life, so he took control of the only thing he could: his death.
From what I remember, Nero kicked his second wife in the stomach many times, killing her and her baby. But it’s also believed that all of the documented accounts of Nero’s reign in Rome were written by his political adversaries, which is so relevant to this show in the form of controlling the narrative. These writers are phenomenal
My friend is taking an acting class it’s because to do an American accent you have to talk from your mouth while doing a British or similar accent is talking from your throat
if nero (tom) pushing his wife (shiv) down the stairs was def foreshadowing for later in the season does that mean tom and greg are gonna get married no way guys haha could you imagine
"I'd castrate you and marry you in a heartbeat!" This one line basically encapsulates their entire plotline. Definitely the one of the worst pickup lines I've ever heard lol
at the start i thought i would root for kendal and greg but at the end of 3rd season ken is destroyed and greg is despicable , tom kinda likable Xd who would thought

Arguably makes it more awkward

God bless Nicholas Braun.
I love the bright-eyed, "I used an business-y word!" smile. He's just so happy to be include in the conversation.
Poor Tom. Almost 3 seconds of sincerity and he nearly explodes from being so uncomfortable.

Tom-Greg relationship is so multi-layered and unique. 11/10, both writing and acting.
The foreshadowing in the Nero and Sporus story is so good
YES and SO homoreotic...
So good! I just made that connection.
Tom did not say whether he was going to push Shiv down the stairs.😜
@theeternalnow6506Nero pushes his wife down the stairs and marries Sporus instead. Tom and Greg are Nero and Sporus.
@@IamAmygdalayeah but how is that foreshadowing? I’m asking for a spoiler I don’t actually want I’m only on s03e08
Matthew Macfadyen gave, I think, the best performance in this series, among a very strong cast. He was superb.
It still gets me that he isn't American irl. He captured such a bumbling weirdness to Tom's character that I would only expect from a natural American business man. I think that was the most impressive acting honestly
Tom is probably my favourite character, along with Greg. Matthew does such a convincing American accent!
If you listen carefully, his accent does slip through. Not in this scene exactly
I'm in love with Shiv, so she is my favorite character, but I do like the old man.
@@KR-ki9hw she is a cheater

Sarah Snook does a better American accent.
jesus you can almost feel in how much pain Tom is in, the actor does a fantastic job, i even teared up a bit.
"pushed his wife down the stairs..." They set up the betrayal early on.
Wow! I am missed it on this episode!!! Genius writing.

I can sense immense sadness from Tom.
PLOT TWIST, this is probably my favourite scene in the entirety of the show. Their dynamic was such comedy gold, it really was.
Greatest love story of all time. Shiv was never the endgame, it's been Greg all along
"Fight me like a rooster, you weakling!" is one of the funniest lines uttered in the show
matthew really did such an amazing job as tom just such wonderful acting
These two... My favorite love story.
"I'd castrate you and marry you in a heartbeat" followed by awkward smiles and silence 😂
Tom taking about Nero pushing his wife down the stairs has a whole new meaning when thinking about the end of season 3.
I mean it was intended. He told Greg to become his sporus at the starting of the final episode.
And the end of the show
Which shows us Shiv did a terrible mistake when fuскеd Ken🤦♀️

Oh Greg, just you wait.
The Nero and Sporus thing is exactly what Tom did in the season finale with Shiv and Greg
There’s something wrong with Tom and I … love it.
Yeah, the fact that he's taking the fall for the Roy's family's misdeeds and his wife being one of the first to throw him under the bus, lol.
In comparison to the Roy's, Tom is perfectly sane lol
There's something very wrong with him 🤦🏿♀️
He’s just bisexual
Gosh I am gonna miss all the layers that Matthew Macfadyen brings to the screen as Tom.
The dynamic between these two is just excellent. Genius.
And YEAHHH… Matthew just won an Emmy! Great!
He called himself a “shame sponge” here, now he’s actually Mattson’s “pain sponge”
Oh Matthew! Such an amazing actor! 🤩🤩
Their interaction is the best and funniest rapport on the show 😂😂😂

the way this foreshadowed the ending

This one together with the compliment tunnel are Tom's best scenes, Jesus Christ, Matthew Macfadyen is incredible.
Sometimes to make a Tomelette, you've gotta break a few Gregs!
Tom bros... we just cannot stop winning
This relationship only gets better with repeat viewings.
Considering how the show ended, Tom got exactly what he wanted.
Of course, Tom forgot to mention that Nero ended up by killing himself because he was hated by the aristocracy and the people... 🙃

How the British play Americans so well

The funny thing is that Nero in the actual history, if i'm not mistaken, was adopted too, like Tom was by Logan in the end of Season 3 and 4.
